Hello,
I am planning to buy AT&T version of Note 9 from craigslist (since they are cheaper due to AT&T BOGO). I am planning to flash the unlocked N960U1 firmware and use it on Verizon.
Can someone please tell me if I flash the SM-N960U1 firmware, does it include all the bands same as if I bought unlocked phone directly from Samsung? Or does it keep the same bands as came with AT&T? Do I need to flash any modem etc on top of the main firmware to get all the bands?
I want to make sure the phone will have all the bands since I am also planning to use it internationally in addition to on the US Verizon network.

All the *American* Note 9 and S9 phones are identical. If you flash U1 firmware, it becomes identical to a U1 sold directly from Samsung and will support everything they say unlocked supports.
It's been so long and I've been googling for an hour. I haven't flashed since the Note 2 days. I am plan on getting a VZW Note 9. What Odin/firmware/other files do I need to flash and what slots ( or link me to a post).
A lot of posts on here and reddit are assuming your'e a flasher and not giving "steps for dummies".
I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

That would be the USC one from the pull down menu. That is the same one you get with a boxed unlocked phone. You would be better off picking the one that matches your carrier, it will still be bloat free but optimized for the chosen carrier. If you have Verizon or AT&T I have those here on AFH. There is a newer update but I don't see it on Sammobile only via OTA so far.

Are you using the Note 9 with the unlocked firmware with VZW GUDP? Have you installed any OTA security updates? I've heard there's a small chance a security update could re-instate the hotspot check but I haven't been able to find anyone with GUDP to check.
I'm somewhat in the same position as the OP, I have a note9 which I'm guessing has att firmware, I just bought it "unlocked" from an Ebay reseller. I'm using it on Straighttalk with their att sim. My major (to me) issue is I lost my hot spot permission. I've had hotspot working on last several phones including a note8 hours ago, as soon as I popped sim into this note9 I lost it. I've tried several APN settings to no avail, everything works fine, but no hotspot permissive.
Will I have to flash the U1 firmware to get my hotspot back?

carrier specific configs are set depending on firmware/csc you flashed. there are some guides and tricks to change your csc so that you can get these features. albeit on the n960u it might be more difficult or even impossible for now depending on the csc feature you are looking for.. but searching and reading should bring up some info.

just set sales code to sprint then set all the bands u want.. im currently on U1 firmware on verizon network with sprint sales code to gain access to dialer codes andall is well

The N960U and the N960U1 all support the same radio bands. They are all identical devices hardware-wise. Actually the N960W is as well. So flashing firmware actually does effect which bands are supported since they all support all the same bands.

Yup. Mine is an ATT carrier model purchased from ATT. Currently running thr U1 firmware on T-Mo with full support for all the T-Mo bands. Honestly switching to the same device for all carriers starting with the S8/+ was the best move Samsung made. I'm anxious for the carrier switching firmware to make a comeback on the Note 9 as well. It was magical watching it switch carrier firmware automatically on the Note 8.

You can also effect CSC-enabled features by flashing new carrier firmware, assuming you have a SIM for that carrier. Thr CSC specific features will all depend on which SIM card is in the phone. As it provisions automatically for each SIM.

so people getting their network unlock codes and unlocking their devices to use with other carriers are pretending to be using their phones on these other "bands" all this time ..wow?
what the u1 firmware does is lift the carrier lock.
the phones original firmware had the ability to use all bands i described in my previous post from day 1.
and i know all about csc so don't waste your breath on me for that.

I'm not sure what you mean about pretending to use other bands? I'm saying they all support all the bands. Also not sure why you're taking it so personal?
Also, the U1 firmware doesn't lift the carrier lock. You still have to have a carrier-locked device SIM unlocked, either through your carrier, or through a third-party service. At least that's how it works on US Snapdragon devices. I know you use an Exynos, so I'm not sure how the carrier study works on those. All the U1 firmware does is provide a clean, non-carrier branded firmware.

if they all support the same bands then flashing different firmware should be irrelevant on the phones capacity to use bands that are already available by default.?

As far as I can tell, there's no difference band support wise between carrier firmware and U1 firmware. BUT with that said, I've heard people say get better signal on carrier firmware. So maybe some carrier firmware locks out certain bands that aren't typically used for that carrier. And I know T-Mobile has aid in the past with the Note 8, only their carrier branded version supported the 256 Quad and 4x4 MIMO or whatever they call that advanced LTE technology. So it leads me.to believe other carrier software maybe locks out the bands T-Mo needs for the advanced LTE stuff.

yeah that's why people flash the tmo detonator pack on rooted devices. but on stock carrier bloat free u1 firmware these 'options' arent probably there. what ever hokus pokus TMO does with their csc to lube up their greased lightning dosent change the fact that other phones having different firmware can still use their services regardless of the firmware you are on, all available bands should operate correctly. thus explaining my previous posts. which were also heavily pointed towards OP's post .( he was inquiring how he wanted to be sure he could still access 'bands' from ATT after flashing u1.) so if you take my comments into context then maybe you'll see that they make sense.( appart from the one where i stated to you that u1 unlocked the sim, but who cares it's only you)
now foe the comedy part, guess we have different visions on what comedy gold is. for instance, the image/caricature your are building in your own mind to make your self laughs is quite a personal thing. Depending on the age and maturity of ones self, it might or might not be(funny). Personally, i usually don't let myself be troubled too much with cheap shots. But i guess it all depends in how hard the other aszhole works at it..

I purchased an unlocked Note 9 and all the networks tell me it won't work on any of theirs. AT&T, US Cellular, Verizon, Net10 all say no. I put my AT&T sim in and it works with low signal. Why would it not work? How do I figure out where this phone originated? I suspect Sprint because any phone from Sprint only works on Sprint.

Go to this site and run the IMEI. It will tell you if it's actually a U1 model or if it's a carrier model.

Whichever it is, you can just flash the ATT firmware, and it will work perfect on ATT. All the N960U and U1s are identical. Just different firmware.

Sprint, that's why I'm having issues with it. I purchased via Amazon. I managed to get it working on Net10 wireless CDMA, so it'll work. Had to activate with my S8+ though. Thanks for the link, that helped!

Well, if you want it to work on ATT, just flash the ATT firmware. Not sure why it won't work with the U1 firmware though.

Well you CAN'T root it, but no. You don't need root to flash official firmware with ODIN.

So if you got it with flash for sprint then maybe you need flash what was originally on this model?
I have the very same model and I just put in my LTE Verizon SIM and it worked right away.
This model is a boot locked, carrier unlocked, world band snapdragon version, that was never originally touched by any carrier.
I.E. No carrier bloat ware. SM-N960U1

I flashed AT&T but cannot get wifi calling. I ordered an AT&T one through Samsung last night. I'll return this one when I get it. The back of this phone says it's an N960U.
I forgot how crappy carriers are. AT&T unlocked my iPhone but no longer recognizes it. So, I can't get wifi calling to work before switching the sim.
Thanks a bunch to everyone for their input and workarounds! Have been out of the loop for a while.

Oh, my bad, yeah the "U" models do say you might lose Wifi calling. Good it worked out for you!
I would be disappointed if I needed Wifi calling, I use the cell line 24/7 here in the US everywhere I go.
I feel like Wifi calling is just giving my carrier a break.

There's actually a way to get WiFi calling on it working again. Look through the carrier switching threads in the Note 8 forums.
It's why I hate ATT and love T-Mobile. Everything works out of the box on T-Mo.

Well to be fair there will be places where signal will be weak or non and then you will be the one loosing.
They don't look at break is just way for the customers to get better signal every where they go or inside whatever tipe of building...

I also purchased an unlocked Note 9 on ebay. In "about phone", the model number is listed as SM-N960U1. On the back of the phone, it's SM-N960U.
The sites that tell you the model with the IMEI number are right, it's a Sprint phone. Samsung customer support said the same thing. However, the Sprint phone and the US unlocked phone share the same FCC ID.
Does that mean, they are the same radio hardware? Is it just the firmware that makes the difference in band capability? If you flashed the US unlocked version of baseband, would it be identical to the US unlocked version? I just want to make double sure!

Let me tell you, you've come to the right place. As you can tell in the subforum title, this is clearly the Note 9 forum. You've done well to come ask your question here.
More seriously, if I'm not mistaken, from what I've read around these parts of town, flashing the unlocked firmware should allow you to use a different carrier SIM. It's my understanding that most carriers use the same model, safe for maybe one, but I can't recall which one that is, now, since I'm not American and I don't really pay attention to those things.
I believe the Note 9 models will work the same as the Note 8 and previous models, in that regard. You can't really lose or break anything by flashing the unlocked firmware. Either it'll work with Verizon or it won't. Might as well give it a try.
It will not work 2 different kind of cell service. Tmoblie and ATT can work together and Sprint and Verizon can work together. One is CDMA and one is GSM
After crossflashing my sprint device to US Unlocked software since last year. I haven't gotten any updates since. There are like 2 updates released since then. Anyone getting the same issues ?

Use LGUP to update now. We're on 20e. And hopefully sometime soon, LG will release Android 10.

You cannot get OTA updates once you have crossflashed. You have to manually update via KDZ & LGUP.
What carrier are you using it on? I crossflashed my Sprint V405UA phone onto V405QA7 firmware but am not getting any VoLTE or VoWiFi at all (also rooted and bootloader unlocked). I'm on a T-Mobile MVNO, which should have VoLTE. Also, LTE Band 71 is a no no for me even though it's available in my area. My phone also only has 3 LTE band selection menus (I used shortcut master lite) that are very buggy and is missing the T-Mobile hidden menu.

Sigh the only thing I really can't take is the constant data loss during updates. I feel I'll hold out till Android 10
I bought an ATT v40 for super cheap off ebay but needed to use a verizon MVNO so I just bought a verizon branded one. Is it possible to get the ATT one to work on verizon? Should I change the firmware on either?
Edit: Also, I should add that the phone is SIM locked. ATT won't let me unlock it because they say it is still financed. I wonder if I should pay one of those unlocking sites to unlock it or return it?

Saw a reddit post where someone was asking for a solution to his unlocked at&t s20 fe not being able to receive OTA software updates since he was using it outside the usa with a non at&t sim card.
Is this really a thing and does anyone know if the verizon version also has the same restriction? Posted a comment on the reddit thread but it was a couple months old and I doubt anyone will answer.

the Verizon version of the 5g has different hardware I've learned. because Verizon use mmwave 5g and pretty no-one else there does, it's gonna be searching for towers it can never find the whole time.
that also means it has it's own firmware compared to other models and with that being carrier firmware, controlled and released by them, they have zero reason to offer it outside the US.

Could I flash the unlocked version's firmware on it and bypass the need for an active verizon sim card?
I could simply opt out of 5g connectivity from the settings, no?

I'm guessing that if it even installed the firmware at best it would be unstable with massive radio/modem issues.
I wouldn't suggest trying but if you did make sure to download the latest verizon firmware for after when the unlocked hasn't work!
