If your one of the many that got in on the Cyber Monday deal for the Moto X 2nd Generation then you may be like me and want to root this phone. Does anyone know if this is possible yet? I can't find anything on it yet so figured I'd start a thread on it.
There are actually a few threads on this already (general & q/a). No luck on root yet...

My $0.02... If root is really important to you, return it.
I just need the wireless tether that's the main reason and custom roms of course.
We need to start a bounty thread for rooting the VZW version.

Correct. I wouldn't count on ever getting root for this phone. If root is that important to you, you should probably go a different route.

How confident are you on this? I didn't think there were any phones that root was not possible on. I really don't want to keep the iPhone 6 but I don't have much longer before my return period is up. The only good thing is I have tethering with it

Well I mean I can't say that it will never happen, but these newer phones are a lot more secure and locked down than android phones were a couple years ago. That, and the fact that most users of this phone purchased it because of the amazing motorola features that it comes with, so many users don't have the need or want for custom ROMs.

Tons of phones. My S5 was out for a solid year until geohot came out and saved the day with towel root. This phone could easily never gain root.
Yeah. I think too many ppl are being too negative about root. It might not happen today but I think it will eventually. If Devs can root any of the Samsung Knox filled crap phones than we should have more faith.
Btw, there is a bounty thread started so donate if u can, give a dev more reason to help us.
While I'm missing having a rooted phone, the x doesn't need it IMHO. That's not saying I would root this bad boy immediately though. I'm just happy right now with 5.0. I have other devices rooted to hold me over anyways.
No no not negative. Just being frank with someone who thought every android phone automatically gets root.
I'm optimistic. I pledged money as well.

It probably shows that because it is a brand new phone and the app doesn't have the bootloader in it's database. just a guess
root has already been achieved in multiple ways, on all carrier devices. We are just waiting on the devs to release now.
Thank you for the reply. I was kinda curious about why mine shower no boot loader.

I don't understand why they don't release the root method with an "at your own risk" disclaimer. A good number of us root users cut our teeth on the original HTC Dream and understand the involved risks.

I have yet to see it done on a T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint variation. I have seen it done on a AT&T phone. I am patient enough for the root

Agreed. If root were available, even if the devs didn't feel it was ready for prime-time, we'd know about it. The fact that nobody has actually seen a rooted 811, pretty much proves that root has not been achieved.
There is a root method that does work. Its not prime ready. But there are articles ststimg root was achieved on an U.S. variant G4. As I stated before the dev bricked the first phone from the unstable root. After his second attempt he was sucessful. So how can justify there is no root for G4 stable or unstable?

Not sure if this was directed at me or not, however.... There is clearly root for a "U.S. variant G4". There is clearly no root for the H811/T-Mobile variant. Nobody has claimed to see it either (that I am aware of).

just because you haven't experienced it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Look at the female orgasm for example. Just believe.
The only thing I can see why one carrier may take longer is only the fact that carrier has just added something in a file that made it harder to exploit. But it has never really been that way.

There is zero development.
Zero KNOWN progress. Who knows for sure though. King root might work for us one day or it might not.

I've stuck with my ATT Note3 on TMO, and TMO Note4. My son has a Sprint S6 Edge on TMO and it has surprisingly quite a bit of development. If I knew anything regarding locked vs. unlocked BL's I'd have a go with this 925V. Just really surprised at the lack of development for this device. Sucks!
Unfortunately, it seems that we've been left in the dark. Surely one of the many devs would have a thread going with some sort of progress update if any were working on it.
@spadz93 That's kinda what I'm thinking. Too bad. I use way too many root functions to even consider keeping my 925V. Really nice hardware either way. I'll probably look for a TMO variant.
Verizon sucks anyway. Worst service I've ever had. I liked T-Mobile way better. I have constant dropped calls, missed texts etc with Verizon.
I would pay good money to have some development for this device... without development, its useless... anyone interested? pm me =]

I wouldn't go so far as to call it useless... It's still a solid phone with decent hardware. Just because you can't root it and install custom ROMs doesn't make it useless. I'm more interested in a phone that works consistently everyday than I am the ability to push the hardware to the point of random reboots and overheating. Once I gave up root for 5.1 I've had next to zero issues with the phone and I like it much more.

Yea, my statement is a little exaggerated but no xposed is huge for me personally. I like to play with my phone and customize it. Without root and xposed, I can't do that like I could with my s4 so it bothers me
What upsets me is the fact that devs give up trying to root a phone if a solution doesn't come within a month or two, if the phone is the only variant that still doesn't have a root and it will take more effort than a few tweaks to do it. I've seen it over and over again with so many phones. If I knew how to even begin to look for a root on the phone and I had the money to buy phones that I could burn in the process, then I'd totally work at it.
what I dont understand is theres ppl with the Note 4 that are able to root 5.1.1 using King Root and no one has tried it on any firmware beyond OE2 for us yet..
I know one person said it worked for him on OF1 but need more to confirm before I update and update all my ROMs.

Did you try Adblock Fast that is build into Samsung 4.0? Download from App store and then manually setup using instructions.
I'm using it on my S7 with zero issues and no ads. Of course, limited to Samsung browser.
I'm using adguard which sets up personal VPN on phone to block ads. Seems to work for all apps but does hit battery life a bit. Worth it for me.

Bootloaders are locked. Flash secured and all. All us carriers, not the exynos, but all us snapdragons, including tmobile. We are on twitter and got a response from John Legere who claims to be working on a potential solution to at least getting tmobiles unlocked. Historically we have always been fine, but for some reason we aren't now. Doesn't make sense for the exynos to unlocked and SD to be locked imo

I'm sure something will come up eventually. Us folks on ATT are used to being screwed with the locked bootloaders. Think it might be new for T-Mobile users though. It might take a little longer, but ATT Samsung devices typically get root after some point.
I've had it since launch, my Nexus 6 basically died. I miss the debloating root allows, like how I'm forced to have the Directv app when I don't have any interest in having Directv. I do like it though it's a nice phone. If we can get root to remove the bloatware I'm for that otherwise I'll live with it for a year until something better drops.

VPNs like Adguard don't "eat" battery. What your seeing is that the system attributes all battery used by apps that access the internet to the VPN.

Seems like Pre-Lollipop builds were always hacked for root. Also, at least on my S5 G900A, Pre-rooted 5.0 was able to be flashed as long as the BL was kept OA1 (KK 4.4.4). But if you took the OTA to 5.0, no root ever! Also they totally locked it down with 5.1. FU ATT!!!!:silly:
But they sure did get into that S6 pretty fast, didn't they? Go figure.
I applied to this Samsung Mobile Insights program. Might get a free G935A or G930A if accepted into it. I do not know how I will live without root, but at least it has a sdcard. I do not have a good feeling about a battery that does not come out though...

Buy the Razer Phone 2. Right now it's cheaper than any of its competition and it has root. The Galaxy S10 is a pretty good phone now that I've had an opportunity to use it for games that won't run on rooted and unlocked devices (like Fate/GO)
Someone already got TWRP to boot on Exynos S10, this phone is too popular to not get root(Exynos bootloader unlocked models). It is a matter of time, I'd say within next few weeks one of the smart devs here will have root and within a month or two Magisk support as well.
