DISCLAIMER:
Your warranty is now void. As always, please be reminded that flashing the partitions of your device involves an inherent risk of bricking or otherwise rendering your device inoperable. I will not be held responsible for any good or bad that results from flashing the files from the herein link. You - and you alone - are solely responsible for your device.
NOTE: If you are coming from stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop or from an earlier build of stock 6.0.1, the bootloader and partition index were updated with this build. It is strongly recommended, to ensure stability and optimized performance, that you flash the Bootloader & Partition Index updater in the downloads link below. In addition, this recent 6.0.1 build for the xt1548 includes an updated Baseband. While not absolutely required, it is recommended that you update your Baseband prior to flashing this ROM. I have compiled an updater zip which will update your Baseband (Modem & Radio Firmware) to the most recent version. Simply flash this zip using the current TWRP recovery. This updater zip can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1Sfod4HWfk2blpURnRIVjg3WDQ/view?usp=sharing
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Unlocked Bootloader
2. TWRP Recovery (preferably @squid2's current version)
SOURCE INFORMATION:
KERNEL: https://github.com/moto8916/android_kernel_motorola_msm8916
DEVICE TREE: https://github.com/MotoG3/android_device_motorola_osprey
MENTIONS & THANKS:
I would like to say thank you to @squid2 for his hard work in building the Squid TWRP custom recoveries and Squid Kernels for our Osprey devices. I would also like to thank @lost101 for taking the time to educate me on the subjects of update-binary and updater-script.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download the ROM zip from the below link and store it either on the internal storage of your device, or on an external micro SD card;
2. Boot your device into TWRP recovery. Perform a full wipe(/system, /data, /cache, /dalvik cache);
3. It is strongly recommended that you install the bootloader & partition index updater from the below link. NOTE: If you install the updater, NEVER ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE YOUR BOOTLOADER OR PARTITION INDEX. You can always downgrade to an earlier version of Android without issues; simply avoid bootloader.img and gpt.mbn;
4. Install the Baseband updater (OPTIONAL);
4. Select "INSTALL" from TWRP's main screen and navigate to the location in which you saved the ROM zip. Commence with installation. Flashing will complete in approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Wipe dalvik cache. Reboot system. NOTE: first boot can take several minutes. Just be patient and don't interrupt the process.
You should now have the latest stock Android 6.0.1 installed on your Osprey.

Yes. I've been trying it. Where I don't own an xt1550, I've had a difficult time writing a working updater-script.
stock recovery image google drive link broken
thank you.
After flashing the newest firmware from 7.11.16 rom i cannot reboot into recovery or bootloader from system's reboot menu (in my case on aex 4.6 rom).
I've noticed that the aboot partition (emmc_appsboot.mbn) is different size than on older firmwares (eg. from 7.10.19 rom) and reboot into recovery from system works with this older firmware.
Is there any way to fix this?
-flash the fastboot MIUI rom, then try to flash twrp again.
mokee fixed in nightly,lineage and aex will follow soon
Do apps like "simple reboot" work?

Did you patch emmc_appsboot.mbn or some file in the rom itself?
EDIT: i unpacked the firmware from your lineageos release from 22.11 and noticed that you took the firmware from miui 7.11.16 and patched the emmc_appsboot.mbn, because only this file is different than original. i'll try to flash only this file and see if it works on aex.
EDIT: i flashed only the patched emmc_appsboot.mbn via fastboot and the reboot to recovery from aex doesn't work. so the dev has to patch also sth. in the rom. let's just wait...

Can anyone help me with the steps to update to Android Oreo (OOS 5) from OOS 4.5.1 retaining root?
Below are the current setup of my phone
Rooted - Yes (Magisk version 14.0)
Recovery - TWRP version 3.1.1-2
Current Rom - Stock OOS 4.5.1
I haven't had any problems in updating earlier but now when I try to flash the full oreo rom from TWRP, I am getting error 7.
Below are the steps I followed.
Downloaded the full OTA zip.
Rebooted to recovery.
Unistalled Magisk.
Tried to flash the Oreo OTA zip. At this point TWRP showed error 7.
Reinstalled Magisk and rebooted to system.
Phone is working fine.
you need to use latest twrp for oreo, for example blue spark version, search for it on xda...
Follow this guide here:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/how-to-install-oos-5-0-over-rooted-4-5-1.684519/#post-17134194
It's exactly what you need.
All Oreo ROM threads clearly state under the "Instructions" heading, that you need either AkhilNarangs Modified TWRP or Blu_Sparks TWRP V50. Using stock TWRP would result in an error.
If the error may still persist, try flashing a different firmware.
Just to get some more clarity.
I have the original OTA full zip. Should I download the zip file from your thread?
Can I install the custom version of TWRP using the official TWRP app? I am bit confused on how to install it.
Is it important that I should use Magisk 14.3 or will v 14 have the same effect?
Hey there,
I can tell you how I have done it yesterday (successfully).
1. Update TWRP - I prefer blu sparks version 8.52 (Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=27225); you can do it by using your installed TWRP Version (Install .img)
2. Dirty flash OOS 4.5.1 again (to remove root / magisk) - once finished DO NOT reboot into system, reboot into Recovery/TWRP to verify the new version and afterwards to system
3. flash OOS 5.0 (Oreo) - dirty flash is okay
4. flash magisk Version 14.3
These are the steps I have followed yesterday and all is running perfect and without any problems.
BR
Which recovery is mentioned in this linked discussion resp. in the linked download? Is it blu_spark TWRP?
Regards
Clark
This worked perfectly for me.
Glad to hear that everything is good ?
I did the same and I was suddenly encrypted and no chance to get my data back. Still forcing clean my phone because I cannot format the device. I get always an error message in TWRP like: unable to format to remove encryption
I go crazy...
Enter recovery and wipe data and then cache.
Then reflash the rom and probably you will be good to go.
Long time ago, I switched to CM12.1, and I figured I would give a try to CarbonROM (Lineage = CM's successor and I used CM and didn't like it much, omnirom = too new and probably buggy, carbonrom = still maintained and "older").
Here's what I did so far:
- downgraded to 23.0.A.2.93 (4.4.4) (flashed ftf with flashtool)
- rooted it using giefroot 3.1
- installed twrp using another tool with an installer (http://nut.xperia-files.com/)
- then upgraded to pre-rooted version of .291 D5803_23.5.A.1.291_1289-7524_R5D_PreRooted_RecRoot_v4_SuperSU_276.zip, which comes with TWRP 3.0.2.0 (did that using twrp I had just installed)
Then my plan was to upgrade directly to CarbonRom by flashing from TWRP, but it gives me the error 7, so I figured I'd just upgrade TWRP but:
- tried upgrading TWRP (followed instructions here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/d5803-z3c-aries-twrp3-0-t3543113), using lineage or omni recovery: will flash "successfully" with fastboot, but when I actually go into recovery mode it's the same old twrp version
- tried flashing the img directly from old twrp version, both recoveries, and same results: when I reboot to recovery, it's the same old version.
I'm therefore stuck right now and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, nor how I could work around this issue.
Installed twrp 3.1.1 from zip, which allowed me to install Carbon.
Still trying to figure out why flashing didn't work, and why the zip did. Anybody can tell me?
Edit: phone is a D5803. unlocked bootloader, TA partition backed up (just in case), i have latest flashtool, drivers are installed, I know how to go into fastboot, I know how to flash a zip...
Try to flash FOTAKernel instead of recovery
Example:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash FOTAKernel "recovery-Lineage 14.1.img"
T-Mobile G6 H872 20A Stock SysBoot ROMs
Based on OEM 20a KDZ. Extracted and Repacked.
DISCLAIMER
Proceed at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage to your device.
This ROM will only work with the 20a Bootloader.
If your phone is not on factory 20a firmware, and you are not able to flash the 20a Stockboot found in Eliminator74's Stock 20a thread, you should not flash this ROM. If you do, your phone will not boot to the OS. It will hang on the boot logo indefinitely which will burn out your device.
These Zips only contain System and Boot firmware. They do not include the bootloader or modem.
Instructions
If your phone is stock, make sure it has the 20a bootloader.
If it doesn't and you want to run this rom, you will need to flash it. Use Eliminator74's Bootstock zip.
Attempting to run this rom with 11g or 11h bootloaders will not work.
Running 11g or 11h bootloaders could potentially burn out your device since it causes a hang on the boot logo.
Reboot to Recovery TWRP
Make a Full Backup
Safest Method:Clean Flash
In TWRP... Wipe->Format Data
Reboot to Recovery
Wipe->Advanced Wipe->System, Data, Cache, Dalvik
Flash SysBoot zip
If you flash SysBoot with Magisk, you are good to go. Otherwise flash Magisk to maintain root.
Reboot to System
You might be able to get away with a dirty flash or just a wipe of all 4 partitions without formatting. But there is a likely chance you will have issues due to encryption, (which formatting will remove)
Your phone may reboot once or twice during the initial boot to system. This is normal.
Your phone might hang on the boot logo screen. If hang persists longer than a few minutes, hold vol-down+power to reboot the device. It should then boot normally.

Yes but from what I have gathered his zips have some verification issues at the moment.
So what exactly is this?
