Black theme phone? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

Guys is there a black themed sony phone/dialer out there?
I want a stock one please if there is one that can be installed on a non rooted phone.
I know there are 3rd party ones but I can't disable the stock one....

It should be available on eXistenZ Pie rom soon of later...

I flashed 52.0.A.3.84 Vodafone Global firmware to do some test about voLTE and it turns out that they replaced Sony dialer with google one. Latest Google Phone Beta has dark theme support.
If you don't need any country specific things, you could flash it with flashtool.
Just keep in mind that Android Pie is stuck in dark mode on our devices (I hope they fix it, I'd like to see the notifications in a light theme), so the dialer will always look dark.

I don't like the google dialer and I want a whole black themed phone....
Theme wise it's useless compared to all my HTC devices.
I want everything Black...even Amoled
I am on Android Pie...and I've got horrible little round icons everywhere which I can't change unless I use a 3rd Party Icon pack.
There is also no stock keyboard or SMS...so I've got all bits of old Sony apps and Google apps.
Its a real mess, it need a whole skin and stock Sony apps.
Some things I can make black and others are whiter than atomic fission....
I've never had such a higeldy pigledy phone.
The spec is incredible but the os/apps/no skin makes it looks amateur and cheap.

The sony dialer used to be cool until Android 6, then it became just a modded Google Phone. In fact, if you put them side by side, you'll notice that they are the same except for the contact picture, so I don't see why you don't like it.
Sony's market share is not good enough to keep doing things as they used to in the past.

I've come from years of HTC phones, indeed I have only swapped over to Sony because I got a great deal and couldn't match the deal with an HTC U11...which lets face it Sony have blatantly ripped off with the XZ2...
Not to take anything away from the XZ2 its an excellent phone, the specs are great...its just...
The Software, its just a mixture of Sony and Google...and because of that it doesn't look right.
I mean why have we still got that useless Video app and why is it shipped with AVG and how may Support apps do you need Xperia Lounge and Support and Help. And why are all the Themes on Google Play...it takes ages to troll through them all, clicking on each one to see they are not very different from the ones supplied with the phone...
And man, don't get me started about the Xperia Theme program on windows...I can't get it to work on Windows 10!!!
Next up is Icons...the phone is just Google Android with a handful of useless Sony apps and a great Sony wallpaper.
I don't want the text under the icons either..the list goes on and on.
I cant get it to look how I want and that's a shame because that's what a phone is all about.
So I will wait to see what you master rooters can do and Im sure next year I will love the phone...

Oh and why cant I combine an SD card into internal memory...
Its all stuff like this that is driving me crazy...its more modern than an HTC M8 but not as good (software wise..I know its a hell of a lot better spec wise)

You know you can remove bloatware such as AVG without root right? There's a simple tool here in XZ2 section.

Android 4.3: first impressions...

Ok guys,
I've just installed the DooMLord's leaked 4.3 rom, downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603473
My first impression so far:
1) WiFi signal seems very improved
2) Smoothness... no lags at all... and in general the device is very reactive, for example when I switch on and off the display.. that's great!
3) The Honami interface is very enjoyable (for the first time I don't feel the need to install another launcher)
4) Status and nav bars are transparent, semi-transparent, non-transparent depending on the situation... I like this feature very much :victory:
5) Stamina mode and almost all other staff of 2013 flagship devices, are present now
What's yours? Any bugs?
hi Big problem here....... "unfortunately,NFC Service has Stopped".....I have this message all the time.
Can you give us a version for locked bootloaders?
Can you put widget on the lock screen? Stock or aosp

I haven't got the chance to test yet, but my NFC is active and no problems here.
Are you sure that before flashing, your last rom was based on .145?

On the lock screen, if you swipe from the left you can add some preinstalled widgets (calendar, email, gmail, google now, google+) and some widget of your apps from google play (if they work also with lock screen)
If you swipe from the right, you always go to the camera app

And for themes are there any themes that give the phone a darker feel with grayish black backgrounds unlike the photos that we've seen already from this leaked Rom with the white backgrounds in the settings. ?

in my opinion, i hope the final released version will be more optimized.
sure, because of jellybean 4.3 the firmware feels more smooth.
i have problem with wifi signal sometimes (same or more worst than my 4.1.2jb) wifi already sometimes disconnect completely :/
at least for me i not see much wifi signal improvement...
i really hope this will be improved in final 4.3
+ sony media apps are nice, love the sound of walkman and clearaudio
+ love the dialer xD
+ sony lockscreen
+ all in all more smooth than 4.1, sure
+ love the appdrawer
- the light background is ugly -i prefer it light- but not that type of background, you can clearly see a more white round section (like a spotlight at one point of the background :/ good we will be able to theme that somehow
- the Ui feels like not completed yet, why sony not made light themed popup/dialog windows everywhere? i not get it (half light, half dark themed, thats what i would call it)
for example, why no light themed note app, but on the other hand the soundpicker is light themed?...sure its just aesthetic thing, but....it hurts my eyes
- no quicktoggle longpress function

Agreed the white background without any contrast hurts my eyes this might work better on an IPS display but not on my Xperia T and if we can't fix that with an applied theme then I might not even update .

Haha I feel bad for you buddy. When buying an android, always consider the amount of development involved. And remember that mainstream devices get the most attention simply because there are more users - like all Samsung flagships.
In other news.. after reading the reviews,, i feel like audio quality is the only thing good about this release. Hmm..

Before i bought my TX i known that TX is rare... T/TL and V the popular ones but TX its just for Europe or for what so... i forgot exactly...
Im not angry at all, just said a bit.... all i can to do is wait because the "Time" is answer for all my question!!!
How about notifications on lock screen? (Missed calls, messages and so on) example i had these on Xperia V with Android 4.0.4 ICS, and it was on my xperia mini pro (GB 2.3)

Yeah I say it's time to bring those back it's nice when they add features but what's the point of taking others away in the process .
Sent from Shane's Xperia T LT30a
you will get that notifications with dashclock, since 4.2jb. thats one big point, why its so nice that we get above 4.1.2
Just ran the leak for almost a full day!, now switching back to Omni.
here is what i think
1.Sound quality when playing music is great. a major and welcome improvement
2.UI is much smoother now with little lag which slightly increases after installing apps and snycing
3.Camera UI is quite impressive, though the burst shot really takes its time between shots
4. App Drawer ......Meh!!!, i dont like how the space on the top and bottom part of the screen is wasted, i prefer apps taking up more space on the drawer like in KitKat
5.Finally, Battery life...not so good, it drains faster than stock 4.1.2.
since its not the final thing, i wont stress that much, just hope the final build is better and addresses the issues.

Exclusive Second Preview - Android 5.0 (Lollipop) on Samsung GALAXY S5

A month ago, SamMobile gave you folks an exclusive preview at an alpha build of Android Lollipop running on a Galaxy S5, but as Samsung was still working on making TouchWiz compatible with Google’s new design guidelines, a lot of inconsistencies could be seen throughout the user interface. Nevertheless, thanks to our elite friends, we have scored a new internal Android Lollipop firmware for the Galaxy S5, which is leaps and bounds better than the build we previewed before, so let’s see what’s new.
First and foremost, Samsung has upgraded its Android Lollipop base from LRW58J to LRX02E. Now, even though the Korean giant is using an updated source code, the build is still missing the Lollipop branding, which indicates that it’s not using the most recent code from Google. However, the new LRX02E build does change the Android version from ‘L’ to ‘5.0’ and also brings in the new Android Bird game as an easter egg, but instead of using lollipops as blockades, the current build uses black and yellow striped rectangles — this was probably a security measure taken by Google to prevent the Lollipop branding from getting leaked before the official announcement.
Samsung’s latest Lollipop build brings in a plethora of changes, mostly to the user interface, and at the same time adds a few new features as well.
List of changes in the new Lollipop build compared to the old one:
• New Note 4 fingerprint lock screen
• New system-wide font — similar to the original one, but a tad thinner.
• New animations, much smoother than before — there’s a screen off animation present as well.
• Google Search bar in recents menu
• Brightness slider in notification centre has a new yellow colour — while changing the brightness, the notification centre disappears and allows the user to view the content beneath it.
• Removed “Interruptions” from Sound settings
• Gallery: Media can be sorted using new filters including Pets, Events, Scenery, Documents, Food, Vehicles and Flowers.
• Music: Improved UI
• Clock: Navigation bar icons are now accompanied by text
• Calculator: Removed square grids which surrounded the numbers and symbols
• Contacts: New search box
• Stock Material Design inspired applications receive colored status bar
• Android Lollipop theme’s core green elements replaced with Samsung’s blue colour
• Settings: Improved UI, new icon colours
• New UI for setting wallpaper from home screen
• Better spacing between options in power off dialog
If we compare the latest Lollipop build with the one we previewed earlier, it’s a night and day difference. We are really amazed by the amount of progress Samsung’s software engineers have made in such a short time. Now, we know that all the Samsung fans out there want this build badly, but we can’t leak it just yet simply because it’s still in an early stage, and is nowhere near a daily driver. We can’t put our readers’ devices at risk.

apart of the ugly colours they ruin the user's experience with those humongous icons and fonts. stock dpi shouldn't be 480 but around 290-340. in this range the whole ui looks much better

I did like TW on the S4. Man, chill out. I'm just trying to have a conversation here. No need to get upset. Its only my opinion on the UI, if you like it, its all good man. I was thinking I know how to flash a ROM so I have no problem changing to CyanogenMod. I was only saying I would have stuck with TW if it was nicer (in my opinion).
Wow, this community is a lot more hostile than I remembered.

It will be interesting to see how such a light, predominately white, user interface will impact battery life on the S5 with an SAMOLED screen. It would definitely help the pink and purple ghosting that happenings on black backgrounds and low brightness but maybe at the expense of a significant reduction in screen on time per charger cycle. Personally I'm hoping for a return to a dark theme with stock but if the new Nexus 6 also uses AMOLED technology then maybe the impact would be less than expected.
It's baffling how badly Samsung dropped the ball on this one. Android 5.0 could be their opportunity to actually make TW look a lot better with material design, but instead it ended up looking horrendous as always.
I wonder if a S5 GPE is going to come out so we can get GPE roms? Otherwise CM12 it is I suppose.

So what's the point in complaining about TouchWiz's different looks? Samsung isn't in a position that allows it to make major changes to its interface and/or naming in every release like HTC does. We're talking about millions of people using their devices and they expect their phone to behave the same.

I love the preview, looks awesome. So much so that it made me want an S5 again so I just bought one. Excited for android L!
Does anyone know whether they'll implment a feature similar to the Google dialer with built-in search?

I like both Ideas. I think I will do a Feed with different animations then, not only the kit one.
About the statusbar, don't we have this already? There is the one with the clock and the notification feed. What do you need more?
Thanks for making this thread! Great to see some interest in developing the unique features of our device!
Here's a useful thread for anyone interested in learning.
@trailblazer101 and I (...mostly him) have been working on some exciting things for the edge! Hopefully he can release soon!

Thank you for sharing this. Unfortunately I can't use it because I would like to put the app in the Samsung Store. If I use stuff that needs a modification of the system, nobody will be able to use it.

After playing around several hours I have to say, animations are almost impossible to do on an Edge Feed.
As @RuggedHunter stated in his Thread, Feeds are very limited by default. I tried to use a canvas and just draw on it. Unfortunately it looked terrible and very smudgy. Also, Feeds can't update that often it seams. This means you would get a very slow and lagging animation. I don't know if I will get it working properly with all those limitations...

I think you want an Edge Panel. On a Feed you won't see anything ^^
This should be alot easier because it doesn't involve any real rendering.

True, if the goal is to publish on Samsung Store. Maybe consider several small apps instead of one conglomerate app? Publishing individually might give you the opportunity to develop without limits, and only provide widget view feeds to Samsung Store.

Indeed. But there are still some cool things you can do with the public api.

Of course I will do multiple apps. It would get a huge mess if I'd put everything together ^^
You can display informations and stuff really easy with it but everything else gets quite complicated. Also there is only a very small documentation about the API so you have to try arround all by yourself :I

I think you didn't quite understand what this project is. I don't upload cracked apks of Edge Apps from the Store, I develop my own ones at your request.
Both of them you can get in the official Samsung Store

There is also one in the Play Store for about 1.50 $
Congratulations on completing the latest photos panel! Are there any special installation instructions? I got a fc when I checked the box to activate the panel, in edge screen settings. But it remains checked. It doesn't actually appear though.

Damn. I thought it was only a bug because of the development. You have to manually grant Storage permissions in Settings -> Applications -> Application manager -> Latest Photos Panel -> Permissions. I'll look into this bug, thank you!

I'm not as familiar with look for panels as I am with feeds....is there a way to make this a scrollable list of more thumbnails? I know it can be done with feeds....but I don't think I've seen it done with panels.

Substratum themes and customisation

I've created this thread so people can hopefully share their setup for substratum whether just themes or other things you can do in substratum like changing your navigation bar etc.
I personally prefer dark themes like the majority of people seem to do and I am only using a swift dark substratum theme and I am looking for other themes and to hopefully use combinations of different themes.
Please share your setup and possibly screenshots if it looks good. I won't bother because mine is basically just black and boring. The point of this thread is to mainly help people find new themes and what combinations you might like to try. Please post below and hopefully people can find a good theme that satisfies their needs.
I personally am looking for a dark theme that stands out and is bold with good contrast in colours. I'm happy to pay for themes if need be.
Edit: My current favourite theme is flux and will probably be deep darkness when it comes out in the future.
Edit: I'm now using compound as my main theme and flux and Lone4subs and swift dark to fill in any apps that compound doesn't cover. Still waiting for deep darkness:crying:
Personally, my favorite theme is Outline but far. I have a huge collection, and no idea how much I spent on these themes so far, but I don't mix themes too much. Only mixing I've ever done was between Belo and Outline to get the battery to show on the white QS panel. I normally use Outline's Nav though.

Cool, thanks for sharing I'll have to check it out. Probably the best theme there is should be coming out very soon, maybe even less than a week. It is called deep darkness.
If a swift dark substratum theme was free then do you think that or do a dark project is better?
Lone 4Subs
Includes ROM specific settings and quick settings. No theme for navbar since I use fling. Just changed the DU icon. Also using Deity for few apps Lone 4Subs doesn't theme.

Well, I've always been a fan of the #LongLiveWhiteUI and avoided dark themes due to the black on black text. That drives me crazy. [emoji14]
It's probably due to using MIUI in the past, which is just beautiful, but I'll have to give a dark theme a chance. I buy them to support the devs, but never actually applied one, lol. [emoji14]

I feel that dark themes look nicer and are better on the eyes especially at night time. I haven't had a problem with black on black but it could depend on the theme you downloaded. I had black on black until I installed the overlay for android system.
It's there any way to make substratum work on original firmware with Root ? I'm on 7.1.1 5 Jan 2017 version ... Cause Everytime I tried i ended in bootloop.

Hi... If you encounter problems regarding substratum you should head over to the official substratum thread. You may find better support here:

Substratum themes have included an anti piracy checker... So if you have apps such as "lucky patcher" installed, uninstall it first

This thread is for discussion and feedback on my LG Themes, and I'd appreciate some feedback and any potential bugs I may have missed(There shouldn't be any). If you are interested head over to my Google Plus or my Twitter or if you prefer Facebook
I am open to input, future requests, bugs, etc. I plan to make more themes, you can get an idea of the other stuff I've done on the V20 so far.
Please do not post links to the playstore here as its against XDA rules and in order to remain compliant I have no posted links here to the play store. You can search for me in the play store or visit one of my social media sites. Make sure you get the G6/V30 version as the G5/V20 themes will not work on our phones!

Just installed the T-MOgenta theme and applied it, but I'm not seeing the results as shown above. I wasn't using a theme before, but applied the default one again to be sure. The wallpaper changes, as does some other areas, but to an orange hue instead of magenta.
I did change my DPI to 500 using the ADB shell command. Could that affect it?
-Edit-
The DPI is what caused it. I reverted to a standard size, and the theme applied as shown in the previews above.
@fryingpan0613 Any chance of getting the theme to support varying DPIs? If possible with the restrictions LG puts in place, that is.
Ooh my gosh! I'm totally going looking for that Barcode one!

Edit: Yes!!! A black and white theme that leaves the icon colors. Bought and rated! ??

I guess my replies yesterday didn't go through... I can mess with the other dpi and see what happens after I finish the theme I'm working on. I've never really touched the other DPI since these were for xxxhdpi.

Awesome I'm glad you liked it! That's one that most don't like because it's "boring", but sometimes simple is nice. As far as the icons, I don't touch any icons because I personally hate when not all apps carry the same theme, and I can only touch LG icons so I just leave them stock on all themes.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. I'd rather the icons just be left alone if they can't all be themed. I don't mind stock colored apps, it's when only a few change that it drives me batty.

Just got the aquifier theme and I absolutely love it. It makes much better use of the oled display than the white default theme does and I love the color blue. (I've always been a sucker for the way that android ics and jellybean looked).
I have the Verizon v30 vs996 and the theme works fine. I had to get the theme from the play store and go into homescreen settings and theme to apply it.
Thank you!

I'm getting close to finishing this theme for the normal resolution, then I'll probably go and do the other resolutions for those that change dpi before I release it. This one has taken awhile because I have to change basically everything for this theme to work.
I actually started this on the v20 but I didn't get it to my satisfaction before turning it in for the v30 so it never got released.

I dont know what it is about it, but I love it! And I dont even like purple lol, mabye I need to do this theme with black instead too.
I made a few really different themes on the v20, but they weren't popular. Like I made one that was desert digital camo themed, I loved it but it was a massive flop. I made a really awesome red white and blue theme too.
You can see what I did for the V20 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/fryingpan0613-theme-discussion-t3568603

I like that it's darker than white, but not blacked out. I know there's a "white UI must die" obsession with AMOLED devices, but then all devices just look the same.
If I have any fellow Marines in here, happy birthday!
Finally the Purple Nights theme is complete and published, including support for other DPI and screen resolutions in settings (settings > display > screen resolution). This theme has taken awhile to complete, I have been working on it since I got my V30, and I spent a few weeks on it for the v20 (it was never released) before that. The lower resolutions have to be manually resized and repatched, so it will take a while before I can get all my previous themes up to date with the resolution fixes since I basically have to recreate the theme 2 more times at lower sizes.
