[App] SwitchMe secure login manager needs GTAB testers please!

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the GTab have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, bes sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well

SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,

Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

i actually bought your pro version and i was able to use it, and i realized, when i try it hangs on boot, but after you clear cache after trying to switch profile, it will work pretty well, i also can confirm this works well on the nook color running cyanogen
gtab running vegan 7.1.0 gingerbread
and i have about 3 apps installed on sdcard

Thank you for the feedback. Were you wiping the cache partition through or the dalvic cache CWM?

when i switch it hung so i hard booted into Cwm recovery and wiped cahce and dalvik after rebooted it booted into 2nd profile, and worked from there, i was able to switch back in forth without it hanging on bootanimation,
for the nook color it works perfect havent really seen any issues rise since installed, only draw back when i purchased pro it was on wifes account not mine
side note wife has 23 applications installed on sdcard, on the nook color
Oo guess forgot to add functionality well i got a gtablet and nook color
the gtablet is mine and nook is wifes
But she likes to use the 10 screen so made a profile for her and her stuff, and when she uses my tablet ill use hers so i can add all my lil mods and apps so it doesnt conflict with her stuff as well we got a kid so we use it for her kid games and movies

Hi guys! I would really appreciate some feedback regarding the new lockscreen!

Anything at all guys?

Tried this app about a week ago sorry I didn't post back sooner. Running Beastly-Clemsyn rom (android 2.2) on gtablet, normal install to internal memory, no overclock. I tried to install twice but both times it froze my tablet immediately after installation. Couldn't do any testing or troubleshooting as I could not successfully install. This app is a great idea and I will keep trying to get it to work as new versions are released.

MOst likely there is no point unless your rom changes...

OK, sorry but its just too dangerous to support data links - there would be boot loops everywhere!

By the way, some intit scripts would also make it incompatible!

I SHALL TAKE THE NECESSARY ACTION ​
Most of you might be very much familiar with the rooting procedure. Its the process of giving yourself superuser permissions (ex - administrator in windows xp ).
If you are using a custom rom, then there is no need to specifically root your phone. But if you are using stock roms, then there is a guide to root in the forums.
Once rooted, you can now take your own decisions for your device which include improving system performance or flashing custom roms using cwm recovery or using any of these below listed apps. Use it wisely, as playing with your device performance can have damaging effects.

Moving on, many of the rooted-on-stock and custom rom users might already know most of these apps and their uses, so this thread is for the begginers who have just rooted their devices.
Further, most of these apps are available in the playstore (mostly paid, but if you want the cracked versions, you can find them in the internet.
So here are some of the apps that might be usefull for you. I will also update this apps list as soon as, I find more usefull apps.

Titanium Backup -
Losing all the apps on your device accidentally or while flashing custom rom is a bad feeling. Re-downloading every app is a painstaking work so fortunately for root users, Titanium Backup provides the solution. Titanium Backup is a powerful backup utility which stores your apps, app data, and system data on your SD card for safekeeping. Titanium Backup can also painlessly remove, freeze-unfreeze any app, including system apps. This app can be configured to run its tasks on a schedule, and the $3.99 donate version allows you to set up multiple schedules for the various combinations of backups it is capable of performing.
ROM Manager -
ROM Manager allows you to flash almost any ZIP to your phone, whether it be a kernel, ROM, app package, or radio image or even initiate a nandroid backup.
Although it is strongly recommended to use the clockworkmod recovery or rz recovery for cfw and odin for stock, as many mini users reported it was bricking their phone.
ShootMe -
This app is for all those dev's out their, who want show the world what they have achieved.
ShootMe is a screenshot capture app that allows you to take a screenshot of your mini with a simple shake of your device.
Juice Defender: Ultimate Juice Defender -
Juice Defender is a battery conservation app. It uses various triggers, rules, and timers to control how often your device utilizes 3G/EDGE APN’s and wifi. These data connections are the number one drainers of battery life when your phone is idle, so Juice Defender allows you to decide when, where, and how often you want them to be active. Ultimate Juice ( paid version of Juice Defender) must be installed over an existing copy of Juice Defender, which unlocks a few additional capabilities for users with root permissions. It also provides some extra goodies for root users including the ability to adjust CPU clock speeds on the run to conserve battery, which requires root permissions.
ES File explorer -
This an application for exploring your phone’s directories.
For developers, its usefulness is self-explanatory. For the average user, it certainly is a solid file explorer with a better interface especially, ES file exp. One more unique feature of these file explorers is the ability to modify permissions settings on files or folders. It comes packed with some solid features apart from the conventional file viewing. Its completely free and is available in the market.
Root explorer -
Similar to any other file explorer app in the market. But its specialty is that, it can crawl deep into the deepest corners of android and modify them like the elusive dalvik cache to sd. Its a paid app available in the market.
Cachemate -
CacheMate is cache cleaner app like no other cache cleaning app does it. Two, CacheMate can clear certain data from the device. This was/is extremely tedious to accomplish and linux does not handle this. Three, CacheMate clears cache from the SD card. While you can go and do this yourself, CacheMate does it all for you just by a simple tap on screen.
Reboot Control-
Reboot Control does 4 things, and 4 things only:
It allows you to reboot, recovery boot, wipe handset or bootloader boot with a single tap. The real usefulness of QuickBoot is in the ability to make home screen widgets for these functions, so they’re always at your fingertips. Since, almost all the custom roms these days use this as a built-in function so this app can be usefull for the stock users.
AdFree -
Blocks data access to a list of sites that store ads. Speeds up browsing experience as the ads aren’t downloaded along with the site and even blocks many ads from displaying in many of the ad supported apps.
Virtual Button Bar -
If your mini's buttons are about to fall off or something has happened and your buttons no longer work, then this app can save you a lot of time and trouble. Its entire purpose is to provide on-screen emulation of the dedicated hardware
buttons on most Android devices. The app offers various customizable features, such as user-definable buttons and positions, lockscreen animations, the ability to change various hardware button actions (volume, camera, etc) and a few
aesthetic variations such as transparency and button size. Virtual Button Bar is $1.63, but there is fully-functional trial available, as well in the playstore.
Call Blocker -
If you have specific numbers that you want to be blocked each time they call, then there’s a good chance you’ve turned to apps that automate this process. There is one problems with that, though:
Most apps still let your phone ring at least once. That’s where Root Call Blocker rises above the rest. Root Call Blocker detects incoming calls at the system level, so it can block them much more efficiently. In fact, it’s so efficient that it blocks the call before your phone even rings, so you’re completely unaware that the offending caller has tried to contact you in the first place. The app offers
many other features as well, such as call logs, multiple rejection methods, multiple profiles, caller grouping, SMS auto-replies, and much more. This app is not free, but there is also a trial version so you can give it a try before dropping any money.
SetCpu / NoFrills -
These apps let you control the speed of operation of your mini. They come with all the latest governers and I/O schedulers, though some roms governers are rom specific. Also, an Overclock kernel is required to use this app.
LBE Privacy Guard -
This is probably one of the best privacy guards that are ever seen apart from the pdroid patch by Yagya. Its functionality is akin to that of a software firewall, with some elements of Windows UAC thrown in. LBE sits in the background and “listens” to your apps as they request various permissions and then provides you a notice with options to either grant or deny access.
Dual Mount SD Widget -
The inability to mount your SD card to both your phone and PC at the same
time can be quite annoying, as you can’t access any of the information or apps that reside on your SD card when your device is mounted to your computer. Dual Mount SD Card is a simple and practical solution to this problem, as it allows you to access your SD card from phone and PC alike while it’s mounted. In order for this app to function properly, you must first disable Android’s auto-mount option, using the widget instead. This available on the playstore.
Hexamob Recovery Pro -
If you’ve ever accidentally deleted any data from your mini, then Hexamob Recovery Pro is here to save the day. Hexamob Recovery Pro is a data recovery tool designed to grab deleted files from either the SD card or internal storage of your Android phone. It supports the FAT file system, and offers the ability to scan the media for specific files types, including audio, video, images etc.
Total Commander -
Total Commander is a feature packed dual-pane file manager for Android, based off of the popular Windows file manager of the same name. It really is the only file manager that you’ll ever need. Most of the CM7 roms come cooked with it, in case you are using stock this will come in real handy.
Sixaxis Controllerer -
Sixaxis Controller allows you to connect a PS3 controller to your mini, giving you the ability to have a full gaming experience on your handset. You grab Sixaxis Controller form the Market for $1.62.
Wireless Tether -
Wireless Tether remains the best way to utilize your mini as a WiFi or Bluetooth (PAN) hotspot. Its free and its open source. Available in playstore. But, it is certainly a battery killer so use it while charging the device.*
Shark For Root -
It’s essentially a stripped down version of WireShark. It’s a particularly geeky app to have, but for developers or those of us obsessed with monitoring where our traffic is going its a great app. Shark monitors all network activity on your device (presumably from all interfaces) and outputs a .pcap file by consrving quite an amount of battery when compared to other apps in the playstore. So use it and know the difference yourself.
adbWireless -
adbWireless does exactly what its name implies, all without the need for a USB cable. There really isn’t much to say as the app is, quite literally, a big red button that you can push to enable/disable wireless ADB connection. There’s also a widget for those times when you’re too lazy to fire up the full application. Its available on the playstore for free.
Move2SD Enabler / Install manager -
Move2SD Enabler or Install manager, allow users to move any app to the SD card. Like adbWireless, it’s as simple as pressing a button. It’s free and both the the apps are available in the playstore. Although scripts like s2e and link2sd etc are there its sometimes convinient to use apps like these.
Market Autoupdate Bulk Toggle -
Another simple yet incredibly useful root-only app:
Market Autoupdate Bulk Toggle. This is an app that takes the Market’s auto-update feature to a whole new level:
Pressing "Autoupdate On" does exactly what you’d expect: it turns on auto-update for all of your installed apps. That’s it – you’ll never have to confront that pesky "Allow automatic updating" option in the Market again. The only caveat is that the program only enables automatic updates for apps that are already installed and won’t apply to those installed in the future – for those, you’ll have to rerun Market Autoupdate Bulk Toggle and press "Autoupdate On" again. Unsurprisingly, you’ll still have to push the "Update" button yourself when an app receives a manual update (which only happens when its permissions change – not a frequent occurrence). Although this feature is present in the playstore, all those who like using the old market this surely comes in handy. It’s free and available on the playstore.
Theft Aware -
Theft Aware, while considerably more complex than the other items on the list, is an Android security app unlike any other. With it, you can remotely track your phone if it gets lost or stolen, wipe it, call it and spy on the thief, and much more. Its free and available on the playstore.
MyBackup -
Pretty much like titanium backup but, if you love backing up your phone’s
data but wish you back all of it up at once, all for free. MyBackup might just
be the perfect app. With it, you can not only back up your apps data before changing ROMs; you can also schedule backups, back up to your SD card, and back up things you never even thought possible, such as contact info, home screens, and SMS/MMS conversations.
This app offers two versions, a free version with nearly all of the functionality, and a paid version for $4.99. The main difference is that the free edition only allows you to save your backups on your SD card, while the premium allows placing them on Rerware’s servers, although I wouldn’t recommend anybody who
values their data to use a random online service.
DroidWall Android Firewall -
It will make sure apps on your phone don’t unnecessarily waste your limited data plan without your knowledge. The app’s main feature is turning off EDGE or 3G or WiFi access for any application, thus allowing you to restrict which apps can access the network. In addition to saving bandwidth, DroidWall can be used for security – just lock down a suspicious app to make sure it doesn’t try to unnecessarily encroach your privacy. As an added bonus, a log of what goes on is included.
Button Savior -
This is an similar to virtual buttons bar app, but with a slightly different and better UI. Button Savior might be worth a look.
Samba Filesharing -
Samba file sharing is the bomb. It turns your phone into an smb server and puts your sd card on your desktop when you’re on a wifi network. It allows you to share files between your mini and pc over WiFi as a Windows shared folder. With this free app, you can wirelessly copy files to/from your Android device via the same drag-and-drop interface you use when your handset is plugged into your computer with a standard USB cable. Even the security freaks have a reason to celebrate –
Samba offers customizable username and password options in addition to letting users choose a Windows workgroup name and a device network (NETBIOS) name.
MarketEnabler -
One of the most frequent excuses for piracy has to be "The app isn’t available in my country" or "Google doesn’t allow paid apps where I live." No longer!
MarketEnabler makes your Android phone believe it’s on another carrier – perhaps even one in another country. For example, a Swede could use this app to access Google Books, which is, by official terms, available exclusively in the US, right ? So use it and let the downloading begin !
SD Maid -
SD Maid frees up space on your phone’s SD card by cleansing it of "corpses in the basement," or unnecessary data left behind by apps no longer installed on your mini. It works with all roms currently on the forums. Use it and know the difference.
AutoKiller Memory Optimizer -
Hate using scripts like V6 supercharger ?
Then is THE app for you.
It tweaks your mini just like the V6, to run smoothly. It kills all the idle process running in the background and saves a lot of battery. You can choose various OOM values for all the apps like foreground, visible, empty etc. Donators are also able to choose alternate presets, enter Chuck Norris mode, and enjoy an ad-free experience. Its available in the playstore for free, worth a try.
zMooth root -
Another on-screen app. You must be wondering, whats wrong with this guy. Well, the only reason is my phone. My buttons are almost gonna fall off. So I pretty much like the apps which have various customizations. So bare with me .
Moving on, this app is on the same bandwidth as Button Savior etc. zMooth relies on webOS-like gestures rather than clunky virtual buttons. To access zMooth, users can start by simply pulling up a blue (default) bar from the bottom of the screen. To go back, they can swipe left; swiping right is pressing the Menu button; and drawing an "up-arrow" will return to homescreen. The $1.19 pro version adds the ability to change the gesture area’s width and colors as well as a "lightning strike" gesture for powering the device on/off.
LCDDensity -
It changes the font of your mini, virtually everything. This is not a resolution changer (lol) , as I have seen many comments in playstore. It simply changes the depth and space of your mini. Using the app is very easy – simply adjust the slider or click on one of the big rectangular buttons to alter the density, then click ‘Apply’ to restart your device and see the changes in effect. Of course, the smaller the font, the harder it is to press onscreen objects; the larger the font, the more screen space goes to waste.
Keyboard Manager -
When it comes to landscape keyboards, it’d be hard to top what HTC has going with Sense UI. If it’s portrait input you’re after, however, Swype is the cream of the crop. So how can you decide ? Should you manually change your input method each and every time you switch orientations, or type exclusively in one
position? As it turns out, you won’t have to partake in either of those practices; downloading Keyboard Manager will suffice. The app is simple:
Allow users to use one keyboard in portrait mode and another when they turn their phone on its side.
Live dmesg boot and live logcat boot -
You won't have any words, to being shown the real dmesg (kernel debug) or logcat (Android debug) log every time your mini boots up ? So this is an app for all those dev's out there who are crazy about logs.
Screencast Video Recorder -
Taking a lot of screenshots and "videos" of apps and games is a habit to you ? Then Screencast is your go-to app, especially for the latter. If you ever find yourself in need of a way to record what’s happening on-screen, look no further than Screencast. The app costs $4, but there is a demo available so you can give it a shot before you buy.
Game On -
It not only allows users to backup and restore game data, but download and share game progress over the Game On network. Yeah, you read right – share. Game. Data. Maybe you’re stuck on a particular part of a game. Perhaps you just don’t feel like playing through all the boring crap (Gta 3) and want to jump straight into the good stuff. It doesn’t matter the reason you want to progress in a game – Game On is the solution. Game On costs a buck in the playstore. So give it a try and happy gaming !
Chainfire 3D-
With this app you can play all the HD games on your mini. It comes with various visual gameplay options. Its a paid app and is available in the playstore. Do give it a try.
WiFi Protector -
WiFi Protector is a security app that protects your device from Wi-Fi sniffing attacks. It’ll detect and prevent ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) attacks, like DoS (Denial of Service) and MitM (Man in the Middle). Unlike most of the other apps in the roundup, this one actually offers a little bit of functionality for non-rooted users too. It can even defend your mini against WiFiKill, an app that can eject basically any user off of a Wi-Fi network with the tap of a button. Its a paid app available on the playstore.
Undelete -
This one is sure to save many people a lot of heartache. We’ve all mistakenly
deleted files before, potentially losing them forever. The next time that happens, though, Undelete is here to save the day by scanning your device’s SD Card, finding all the deleted files, and, in most cases, restoring these files. The app is free in the playstore, so there’s no excuse to ever lose another file.
Mobile ODIN Pro -
Flashing your firmwares the mobile way. Currently this app is not fully supported by our device but the dev claims it to be working on low-end devices like ours too. Check this out:

Call Master -
It’s probably the best call and text firewall in the playstore. It can control dozens of variables in countless situations – everything from blocking certain numbers during certain times of day, sending specific numbers to voicemail, to auto-hang ups etc.
avast! Mobile Security -
Last, but certainly not least is avast! Mobile Security – an app that every rooted user should have installed. I know what you’re thinking – an antivirus app? Really? Yes, really. This app is different than the rest of the anti-virus applications in the Market, because it is also the best anti-theft solution of any app. (The other features of the app are top-notch, as well, but the anti-theft functionality is its only root function). Why is its anti-theft so good? Because
it used to be Theft Aware , an app that is listed above. TA was bought out buy avast! and incorporated into its Mobile Security app. The best part is that the root function of the app wasn’t altered in any way – avast’s anti-theft setup is identical to Theft Aware in every way but with a wonderfull UI – it’s simple and intuitive, and when it’s finished, you can rest assured that if your device is ever lost or stolen it’s as protected as it can be.
avast! Mobile Security is free and if you only choose to install one app from this roundup, I suggest that this is the one.

Battery Callibration
If you have a regular habit of changing roms ? Then this is the right app for you.
Its a battery calibration app. It wipes all the battery stats/data from your phone and will make your phone ready to produce some fresh new stats. In this way your battery will last longer as it is always recommended to calibrate the battery after flashing a new rom. Its a free app and is available in the playstore.
BusyBox Installer
Did you ever feel, where can I get a old version of busybox ? This is a common query while using the V6 Supercharger, since it recommends a busybox 1.18.2 or higher version. So ever come across an app that requires an older version of busybox ? Then this is right app to turn for. Its a free app and many versions are available in the playstore so, choose wisely
Script Manager
"THE" app for applying "ANY" script for your phone. It can help create terminal widgets for apps that aren't available for that app, by simple taps of the screen. SM widgets is another add-on for this app so you can use its full power.

It can also help tweak your phones performance by applying scripts like V6, kickass, 3G booster etc. A must have app for any dev or tweaker. It can serve as a decent root explorer for an average user. Its available in the playstore for free.
Root Uninstaller
Annoyed by the fact that you can't remove those useless system apps ? No more ! This is that app, that removes all the useless apps from your mini. It can also freeze user apps, backup them, delete them, unfreeze them, move them sd card etc. Its a powerful to have and sometimes may come in handy some times. Its a free app available in the playstore.
Easy Tether
Too lazy to go into settings>wireless and networks>tethering>usb tether ??
Then this is your go to app. Its a one-click tethering app for your mini so that you can use it to browse on your laptop or desktop. Its a free app available in the playstore.
ScreenShot UX
A screenshot app that has all the cool features like shake to capture your screen. Its fully functional trial is available in the playstore. Use it and feel the app before investing in it
Screenshot ER
Another screenshot app. Its a completely free app in the playstore unlike any other in the playstore. As it is free, there has to be some way to chop our legs. . So that drawback is a 6-sec delay after taking every screenshot. Though if u buy it, you can reduce that delay to 1-sec. Some of its features are, screenshot preview ( various views for previews ) , shake SS, on-screen button, notification capture etc. Use it and the know the difference yourself.

Z Screen Recorder
Probably the only app to give some competition to screencast app. Its a similar app compared to the screencast video recorder. It simply has two big buttons, when the app is opened. It simply records whatever is happening on the screen and saves the video to your sd directly. It has fully functional demo in the playstore. Try it before buying it.
SD Booster
The dev of this app claims it to increase the external memories speed upto 40 times than before. You can set this app to work from boot. If you don't believe me or the dev, just use any of the benchmark tools and see the proof your self. Its a tiny-free app available on the playstore. Do try it
SD Speed Increase
Originally developed by our xda member '"brainmaster". Its a similar app to SD Booster. The app has similar results to that of its competitor in terms of write/read speeds in any benchmark apps. Its also a tiny-free app available in the playstore.
System Tuner Pro
The most complete android system utility app/tool. It does all activities like backing-up your apps, task killer, logcat reader, terminal emulator, memory controls, freeze/unfreeze apps, activity recorder, system tweaker etc. Use it and you'll know the difference yourself. You can also setup widgets and notification indicators to any of these function and monitor your phone with real ease. Its a free app available in the playstore.
Tasker
If you have a habit of forgetting things ? Then this is the BEST app available in the whole playstore. Then only drawback of this app is, YOU. lol, yeah coz if you forget to set the tasker to do its task, then you are actually limiting its function. So moving on, Tasker is powerful app that has triggers which can make you remember the mildest things through its alarm and etc functions, 200+ built-in actions , task completion, scene/icon/design your own task according to yourself. So what are you waiting for ? OH wait, have you forgotten what you were doing ? Then first download this app.

Requires FULL ROOT and of-course a working-full busy boz. CWM and a backup(just for safety
) is recommended as a boot-loop MIGHT occur, according to dev. Moving on, this allows you to change fonts. You might be asking, Why root for a puny font changer app ? The answer is, it changes fonts. Yes it changes fonts of virtually anything, even the keyboard you are using right now
. According to the dev, it creates a buck-up of your default font in-case something happens. While removing this app, make sure that you restore setting of your default font. In case you forgot, just restore your nandroid back-up

Root Checker
This tiny-free app DOES NOT REQUIRE ROOT. Then why on the list :O ? As the name implies, it simply checks your su-binary and verifies that your phone is properly rooted or not. So this app is helpful for beginners who rooted their stock recently and lets you check whether you have followed the procedure correctly or not.
Its available in the playstore for free.
Spare Parts
This is a very handy app to have. It currently works only on custom roms and CM7. It a tool to control all your hidden interface changes in your custom rom. Going through setting for even changing even the screenlock can be painful, So this app save that time and energy easily.
It also allows you to change the screen transition type and its speeds, wifi sleep policy, useage statistics etc. Its a free app and is available in the playstore.
SuperSU
Another great app from a great master, none other than our ChanFire himself. After giving us some great apps like CF3D, live demsg and logcat etc, its time to include this great app to the list. Its a replaceable counterpart app for the superuser app by Chainsdd i.e our default superuser permissions granter by applying the standard procedure. So installing this app simply replaces you current/default permissions granter. Try it and as always perform a back-up of your apps and data. Its a free app and is available in the playstore.
Swapper
It lets you create, add and manage swap memory file without a swap partition on SD card. Reconfigure the app if you changed your swap size. This tiny app is free and its available in the playstore.
DroidTweaker Root
A small All-in-one app for your rooted mini. It also can mount the system partition as read-write for development purposes and also can clear dalvik cache directly by the tap of a button. Its presently in beta stage but its working fine for me. This tiny app is free and its available in the playstore.
AdAway
Its an app similar to ad-free. It uses leeches to prevent ads from being downloaded while browsing on your mini. Once you install this app and update the host files, you are ready to go for a ad-free experience on any app or browser. It even removes the ads from app that come with those annoying ads, this ultimately improves the performance of the game.
OTA Root Keeper
Want to " TEMPORARILY UN-ROOT " your device so that you can test some new app or tweak or get access to some stupid website ?? Then this is the right app for you. This app is created by the devs of Voodoo Sound specifically for galaxy s,s2 etc. It creates a back-up of your su-binary before temporarily un-rooting the device. It needs an ext-2, 3 or 4 partition for working. This tiny app is available in the playstore for free.
BuildProp Editor
As the name says, it an app to change and modify the build.prop for tweaking your phone. This is a good app to have for devs who like playing with OOM values. If you don't know what is build.prop file, then you should possibly leave this app let alone download.
It also has recommended values, keyboard layout and comes with a proper explanation. Before playing with the file, the app creates a backu-up of your current build.prop file in case you forget. So even if you are not satisfied with your tweak or an error has occured, you can simply replace the back-up easily.

Try installing some of those ****in idiotic supposed-to-be hot korean etc girls wallpaper app from the playstore and see what happens...avast wont even let those ****iin trojan-trackin apps into our device...u can test it urself...nd this app saved my phone twice Coz I lost it..it has the best anti-theft options in the whole playstore...

I read the comments to those apps and felt like testing avast...it worked Coz avast detected that app as a malicious tracking app that can read our contacts and call logs.
so that's y I gave that example...

Preface:​
The Nexus 5 (codenamed Hammerhead) is a smartphone co-developed by Google and LG Electronics that runs the Android operating system. The successor to the Nexus 4, the device is the fifth smartphone in the Google Nexus series, a family of Android consumer devices marketed by Google and built by an original equipment manufacturer partner. The Nexus 5 was unveiled on 31 October 2013, and released in black and white colors (and lately in red) the same day for online purchase on Google Play, in selected countries.
The Nexus 5's hardware is similar to that of the LG G2, with a Snapdragon 800 system-on-chip (SoC), and a 4.95-inch 1080p display. The Nexus 5 is also the first device to feature version 4.4 of Android.
As of December 2013, a revised version of the Nexus 5 became available, featuring bigger speaker and microphone holes to allow louder audio, and better fitted buttons and SIM card tray.
Nexus 5 is the first Android device to ship with Android 4.4 "KitKat", which has a refreshed interface, improved performance, improved NFC support (such as the ability to emulate a smart card), a new "HDR+" camera shooting mode, native printing functionality, a screen recording utility, and other new and improved functionality.
The device also ships with Google Now Launcher, a redesigned home screen which allows users to quickly access Google Now on a dedicated page, and allows voice search to be activated on the home screen with a voice command.​

-A tweaked Dialer app with a colored Action bar.
-People’s app now placeholder images are now similar to that one used by Gmail.
-Fix for mm-qcamera-daemon bug. (not been fixed properly, as reported by some users).
-The ability to pause a download of additional files required by large games on the Play Store.
-The hissing sound while recording videos on the Nexus 5 is fixed. However, there is now a strange echo in the recorded audio.

Q1) Can i make a screen shot on stock firmware?
A Yes you can! user doesn’t need to root the device or employ third-party apps just to take a photo of what's happening on screen. Taking a screenshot is simple, just press the volume down and power buttons together. The device will quickly take a snapshot of the screen and you will find it in your notifications.
Q2) What is Barrel Roll?
A As part of Google's regular antics, it had introduced a "barrel roll" trick for desktop browsers. Type "do a barrel roll" as a search term, and Google would demonstrate the power of modern browsers by flipping everything around on your screen. Your Android device can also do a barrel roll if you speak out the same command. Again, It's great fun to show off.
Q3) How can i uninstall an app. without going to setting?
A Long-pressing on an app within the app drawer pops up a couple of menus along the top of the screen. App Info gives you the boring technical stuff about how much memory it's taking up, or you can fling it off the other way to uninstall it.
Q4) How can i go directly to the quick settings menu?
A expand notification bar by sliding two fingers.
Q5) How to control music from the lockscreen?
A If you’re using Play Music you’ll see music controls and full screen album art on the lockscreen. You can skip tracks and pause in here, but you can also now scrub (skip within a song) through tracks by holding one of the music controls to get the track preview to pop up and then dragging the circle to where you want to play.
Q6) How to add widgets to the lockscreen?
A If you just slide left on the lockscreen you’ll see the option to add widgets, so you can glance at your email, or see the latest tweets, without having to unlock your Nexus 5. Remember that you’ll have to enable widgets via Settings > Security > Enable widgets first.
Q7) What is inverted rendering?
A Inverted rendering is a posh way of saying it makes the pages black and turns the text white, so it looks like you're reading the internet from 1997. It also supposedly saves battery, plus is easier on the eyes if you're reading in the dark. It's under the browser's settings tab, within the accessibility area - and there's a contrast slider, too.
Q8) How can i reboot into safe mode?
A Safe mode, the savior of so many Windows PCs! If you are experiencing a problem with your N5 and you want to determine whether it is being caused by a third-party app, long-press the power button, then long-press the Power off option. Choose OK to reboot in safe mode, which completely disables all third-party apps on your device. If the problem goes away when you’re in safe mode, you should reboot your device and start removing recently installed apps until the problem goes away.
Q9) What does reset app. preferences means?
A Android gives you loads of different options for each installed app, and on the whole this is a very good thing. Sometimes it can be a bad thing, though: you may find your phone playing up because a crucial app has been disabled, or you've changed the notifications for something important like emails. In the apps drawer, you'll find Reset app preferences under the settings. This resets all your apps on a global level, returning actions and data settings to their original levels.
Q10) How to Use Emoji in the Android 4.4 KitKat Keyboard?
A Emoji, Japanese pictographs and smileys commonly used to convey letters and words in electronic messages, are becoming more mainstream for smartphone users. Historically, Android users had to download a separate app from the app store and add it as a keyboard “language” in order to use emoji. With Android 4.4 KitKat, Google has built emoji into the default Android keyboard, making it easy to communicate with these pictorial tools.
- Open Google Hangouts.
- Tap “Send a Message” within a conversation.
- Tap the Smiley Face button in the bottom-right hand corner of the numeric keyboard.
- Tap the Icons in the black bar at the top of the emoji keyboard to scroll through different types of emoji. Each section has several pages of emoji to choose from.
- Tap an Emoji to add it to your message, then click send to transmit that emoji to your contact.
Q11) I can not see messaging application?
A Hangouts application, which now supports text messaging, is used as the default text messaging application.
Q12) How to capture photos while recording?
A The Nexus 5, like nearly any device capable of capturing video, has little trouble capturing still images while recording video. Simply tap the screen while recording a video to capture a photo, which your smartphone will then instantly save in your photo gallery as the camera continues to record.
Q13) I can not see Developer Options in settings?
A Google hide this option, to enable it just go to settings---->about phone, tap 7 times on "build number" and it will be shown in settings.
Q14) What is ART runtime?
A Android uses something called Dalvik to run apps. Dalvik works by compiling an app each time it is running, which minimizes installation times and disk usage, but also makes apps slower to start up. In Android 4.4, there’s now an alternative – ART.
ART instead compiles all apps before execution, allowing them to start more quickly and get things done faster, it can also improve battery life. ART is still experimental. You can try enabling it in Developer Options. If any app doesn’t work, it’s easy to switch back to Dalvik again.
Q15) ADB can not recognize my N5. What should I do?
A Download and install Android SDK, if you already have it on your PC just update tools and platform-tools. you must have latest ADB version. If you do not want to install Android SDK, download attached file.
Q16) How can i make my N5 feel snappier?
A By speeding up (or disabling) the animated fade-in effects you see when switching between tasks, you’ll see a boost in performance and faster screen transitions. Start by unhiding “Developer options” as described above. Once in “Developer options,” scroll down to the “Window animation scale” and “Transition animation scale” options and set both to .5x. You can even turn each of these off and transitioning between apps and pages will be almost instant. If you ever want to go back, remember the defaults for both of these settings are 1x.
Q17) How can i improve my gaming graphics?
A If you are a hard-core gamer, you probably already know what 4x anti-aliasing is. First, enable Developer Options as described above, then go to Settings and click on Developer Options and enable Force 4x MSAA. Multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA) is a technique used to improve image quality. Since the N5 has a GPU capable of supporting MSAA, this setting should make your graphics look more detailed when you are playing advanced games. Keep in mind this will also cause your GPU to work harder and your device may get hotter and consume more power than normal. It’s also possible that all games may not support this.
Q18) I want to see "KitKat" on my screen, can i?
A Yes you can, go to settings---->about phone tap quickly 4-5 times on android version, then touch and hold, you will see the KitKat logo.
Q19) 2 new sensors on my Nexus 5??
A Android 4.4 supports two new types of sensors – step counters and step detectors. So far only two apps are optimized for the Nexus 5 Moves & Runtastic Pedometer.
Q20) How can i customize my LED notifications?
A A free app called Light Flow Lite allows you to take control of the colors of your notification LED. It also makes your N5 flash one color after another. This app allows you to set the notification color for over 250 applications and system events including missed calls, low battery, no signal, voice mail, calendar reminders, Gmail messages, email messages, SMS messages, MMS messages, Twitter notifications and more.
Q21) How can i put my N5 in fastboot/recovery mode?
A Turn off your phone, press and hold down Volume Down + Power button at the same time until fastboot (bootloader) mode (image of an Android with Start) appears then release the keys. Press volume up or down and select recovery by pressing power button. (For stock recovery, when you see an android logo with exclamation mark, press volume up to see the recovery menu).
Q22) How can i put my N5 in download mode (for LG flashtool)?
A Turn off your phone, hold volume up and plug your usb cable into pc while holding the volume button.
Q23) How to wirelessly charge my N5?
A In case you didn’t know already, the Nexus 5 comes equipped for charge wirelessly right out of the box. Consider purchasing a magnetic Wireless Charger to utilize the feature, and if bought, place the smartphone directly atop the device for wireless charging.
Q24) My N5 screen is turning on by itself, what is happening?
A It is caused by an application, usually by live wallpapers, try to find it and delete it, or install an antivirus app., there is a lot of antivirus apps available (avast, eset, ....). Personally i recommend Dr.Web Anti-virus, scan, delete, wipe cache and dalvik (optional).
Q25) sometimes i lose packet data, i reboot my N5 to enable packet data again?
A There is no need to turn your phone off and on to re-enable packet data, just long press on power button, enable airplane mode for 3-5 seconds then disable it.
Q26) I rooted my N5, what to do next?
A It is recommended to make a nandroid backup immediately.
Q27) I rooted my N5, made a nandroid backup, but i can not find my backup folder?
A If you used cwm recovery, with any root manager, enable root option, your backup folder is located in data/media/clockworkmod or mnt/shell/emulated/clockwordmod.
If you used TWRP, your backup is located in sdcard/twrp/backups/serial number.
Q28) The kernel does not support "Sweep2Wake" or "DoubleTap2Wake", is there a solution?
A change the kernel, or install intellicover application.
Q29) Do i need to wipe cache partition when flashing a new custom rom?
A No, there is no need to wipe cache, because when you wipe data/factory reset, cache is wiped automatically. i see to wipe cache and dalvik after flashing a new custom rom.
Q30) Do i need to wipe cache partition before flashing a new Kernel?
A No, there is no need to wipe cache, boot partition has nothing to do with cache.

Q37) What is the best kernel/Rom for my N5?
A There is no something called "best kernel/Rom". You must try many kernels/Rom and decide what suit your rom and your need.
Q38) What is the difference between D820 & D821?
A Things are almost identical. You'll find the same spec sheet for the screen, processor, RAM, sensors, Wifi and everything else. All indications are that both the D820 and D821 run the exact same software build as well. The only tangible difference between the two models is mobile network bands. D820 for North America, D821 for the rest of the world.
Q39) What is the difference between CAF & AOSP?
A Actually, there are two main baselines for support of Qualcomm devices:
-CodeAurora (CAF) - These are Qualcomm's reference sources for their platform. This is what they provide to OEMs, and what nearly all OEMs base their software off of. As a result - nearly all non-Nexus devices are running kernels/display HALs/etc. that are derived from a CAF baseline.
-Google's software baseline, or AOSP - Usually when Google starts working on a new Android version, they'll fork from CAF at the beginning. Very often Google will be adding "new" features specific to the new Android version, while Qualcomm will continue with performance enhancements and bugfixes against the "old" baseline.
*So when a new Android revision comes out, you have two baselines: CAF which is usually "ahead" in performance but "behind" in features, and AOSP which is the opposite.
Starting with 4.3, CM started mixing code between CAF and AOSP. They put some CAF features/capabilities into their baselines for AOSP-supported devices (Nexus devices), and started putting AOSP patches into their baselines for CAF devices.
Beware when flashing custom kernels. A CAF based kernel is not compatible with AOSP based Rom and vice versa.​
Rooting:​
Rooting is often performed with the goal of overcoming limitations that carriers and hardware manufacturers put on some devices, resulting in the ability to alter or replace system applications and settings, run specialized apps that require administrator-level permissions, or perform other operations that are otherwise inaccessible to a normal Android user. Rooting is similar to jailbreaking devices running the Apple iOS operating system. On Android, rooting can also facilitate the complete removal and replacement of the device's operating system, usually with a more recent release of its current operating system. Rooting enables all the user-installed applications to run privileged commands that are typically unavailable to the devices in their stock configuration.
Legality: The Free Software Foundation Europe argues that it is legal to root or flash any device. According to the European Directive 1999/44/CE, replacing the original operating system with another does not void the statutory warranty that covers the hardware of the device for two years unless the seller can prove that the modification caused the defect.
On July 26, 2010, the United States announced a new exemption making it officially legal to root a device and run unauthorized third-party applications, as well as the ability to unlock any cell phone for use on multiple carriers.
Safety: I Have always said that the person should learn the Android OS before rooting. It is a good idea to have an idea of what rooting is doing and what it will affect. I would say spend your time really learning the OS which is not a small task. Then, if you still feel like it, go ahead and root. While rooting can help you learn many things about your device, it also can reap very bad consequences, such as:
-Bricking your phone (or in an easier way to explain, making your phone a pretty paper weight).
-Corrupting core files.
-Stopping OTA updates from going to your phone.
-Voiding phone warranty.
-Have your phone open to malicious software and applications that can do serious harm to your phone.
As you can see, it can reap very negative things. I have read/seen people who have literally had to buy brand new phones because they tried the latest and greatest rom. Rooting is essentially something that you must take at your own risk & caution. Generally, if you follow exactly the procedure of rooting made by developers, you will be more likely on the safe side.

What to do after rooting?: 1) make a nandroid backup via custom recovery 2) backup efs partition (save your IMEI and NV_DATA):
Install "terminal emulator" from play store, open it and type the following (enter after each line):

Then copy/move efs.img to a safe place on your pc.​
Problems can happen:​
-Stuck into a Bootloop: Bootloops are mainly caused by system files interfering with each others which cause instability and/or crash at the boot sequence. so what to do??
Long press on power button then press volume down together, boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, reboot. If not, format data, reboot. if not restore your backup (supposing that you did a nandroid backup before). if you don't have a backup to restore, flash any custom rom from your sdcard after formatting system & data & cache. If you don't have a custom rom in your sdcard, push one from your pc using adb (supposed that you have adb file or sdk on your pc): boot into recovery, connect your phone to the computer open command prompt where your custom rom is present and write the following command then hit enter:

once done, go to your phone and install the rom.zip from recovery, reboot.
Or you can use "adb sideload" command: boot into recovery, choose "install zip from sideload", connect your phone to the computer open command prompt where your custom rom is present and write the following command then hit enter:

If none of above methods works, then flash stock image for your N5 using fastboot commands here.
-N5 is quietly dead: If your phone did not respond to anything, it won't turn on, can not boot into fastboot or download mode, black screen, try holding power button for 30 seconds, if not, you need another motherboard.​

Recommendations:​
-Too loud wallpapers may sometimes disturb the look of your home screen and make the icons quite invisible, simple or a less-colored wallpapers are always suggested as to be the best choice. But your choice is what matters.
- Use only essential widgets on your home screen - each widget consumes memory and processing power which can slow down your phone.
- Uninstall apps that you don't use - after awhile your phone can get cluttered as some Apps are designed to always run in the background. If you rarely use an App, then uninstall it to free up memory and CPU resource.
- It is best to avoid task killers such as Advanced Task Killer. Android is designed to automatically pre-load certain applications, even if you don't load them yourself. If it starts to run low on memory, it will smartly unload the oldest running apps automatically. Manually killing tasks will only mean they get loaded in memory again. Task killers can make the phone slow, laggy, or drain battery life more quickly.
- Always use latest CWM or latest TWRP recoveries.
- Disable USB debugging when it is not in use. Leaving USB debugging enabled makes your phone vulnerable (e.g. lock pattern can be reset).
- Avoid putting your N5 in direct sunlight, it may affect touch screen & your battery performance.
- Learn how to use ADB & FASTBOOT commands instead of using toolkits, the last could not function properly.
- Check rom/kernel.zip md5 before flashing if it is convenient.
- Always update applications, if available, for better performance.
- Make a backup of your data, applications, contacts...always ready to restore from your computer.
- Read, read and read before you mess with your N5.
- Always be sure that you are flashing the right thing for your N5 variant.

Backup and Restore your applications and their data + your sdcard​
Backing up your apps and their data and sdcard is an essential process to keep them safe in case something goes wrong with your phone and need to be wiped.
In addition you need to make the backup when flashing new custom roms that need a factory reset before flashing.
There is a lot of apps available on play store that can do the job (Titanium, MyBackup, Helium,....).
But here i would like to show you how to backup and restore your N5 with a well known method (familiar to many users), using "adb" commands. This method is safe, easy, reliable and works on stock and rooted devices.
First you need to have Android SDK installed in your pc, or download the zip attached in first post.
Backup & Restore Apps and Data​
Backup:
Go to Settings>>>>Developer options and enable "usb debugging".
Connect your device to pc.
Open a cmd (shift + mouse right click) in "sdk platform" or in the folder downloaded from OP, and type (ENTER after each command):

adb devices
You must see your device serial number.
Code:
adb backup -apk -noshared -all -nosystem
Now look at your device and accept backup process.
Wait until finishing.
This will backup your apps and their data to the pc (a "backup.ab" file will be created).
Restore:
Go to Settings>>>>Developer options and enable "usb debugging".
Connect your device to pc.
Open a cmd (shift + mouse right click) in "sdk platform" or in the folder downloaded from OP (the backup.ab file must be there), and type (ENTER after each command):

You must see your device serial number.

adb restore backup.ab
Now look at your device and accept restore process.
Wait until finishing.
This will restore your apps and their data to device.

The following processes will backup and restore your whole sdcard, including obb folder, music, pictures, videos,......
Backup:
Go to Settings>>>>Developer options and enable "usb debugging".
Connect your device to pc.

This command will pull your sdcard (not move or cut) to "c" directory under "sdcard" folder.
This process will take time depending on the size of the sdcard, so be patient.

Open a cmd (shift + mouse right click) where the "sdcard" folder is located in your pc , and type (ENTER after each command):

This command will push the "sdcard" to your device.
This process will take time depending on the size of the sdcard, so be patient.​
Battery Conservation Tips​
-Enable Auto Brightness: Brightness can lure a lot of battery if not changed intelligently with time to match the surroundings, KitKat in this case brought the “Auto Brightness” function which uses the light sensor within the device to detect the amount of light in the surroundings and then act upon the brightness level according to it. To enable, go to Settings > Device > Display > Brightness, and tick “Automatic Brightness“. And if you want to save more battery drain, set brightness manually at low level depending on the external amount of light.
-Remove Live Wallpapers: Using a live wallpaper is another battery sucking feature. If you turn out to be truly saving battery, make sure not to use any live wallpaper. A wallpaper with a black background uses less power than a wallpaper with a light-colored background.
-Disable Location and GPS services: Keeping GPS ON at all times, decreases your battery life, so its better to disable it while not in use. To disable, go to Settings > Personal > Location access > and switch it off - note that a nice new feature in the Settings menu can save a bit of battery life without sacrificing much at all. Go into the Location option in Settings, then choose ‘Battery Saving’ as your mode instead of ‘High Accuracy’-.
-Disable Wi-Fi or Mobile Data when not in use: Try to avoid situations when you keep your Wifi or Mobile Data ON even when the phone is set in standby.
-Manage Sync carefully: Keeping the Sync ON all the time is another reason for decreased battery life. Enable it anytime you want, manage your emails or services and again turn it off. For those who are on work and want real-time push notifications are advised not to follow this tip.
-Turn OFF Haptic Feedback and screen sounds: To save a little more on battery, its better to switch off the screen touch sounds and vibrations. To do so, go to Settings > Device > Sound and untick Dial pad touch tones, Touch sounds. Screen lock sound and Vibrate on touch.
-Turn OFF bluetooth and NFC: Disabling bluetooth and NFC when you are not using it, is another way to save battery juice.
-Follow the method of full charge and full discharge (almost): Don’t put your phone on charging when there is the battery remaining it for another few hours unless it’s very important. Charge it when your battery is about to get discharged and when you put it for charging, let it get charged totally.
-Set sleep time: Check the Sleep setting (under Display) and make sure it is set to 1 minute or less.
Keep calls short: This is obvious, but how many times have you heard people on their mobile phone say, "I think my battery’s dying," and then continue their conversation for several minutes? Sometimes, the dying battery is just an excuse to get off the phone (and a good one, at that), but if you really need to conserve the battery, limit your talk time.
-Turn OFF mobile network when not in range: Its very often that you lose the mobile network when you are travelling, so its advisable to turn OFF the mobile network by switching ON Airplane mode. Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks, tick Airplane Mode.
-Turn off unnecessary scanning of wifi services by going to Settings - > Wifi - > Bottom right three dots (menu) - > Advanced - > Uncheck scanning always available.
-Turn off unwanted background data by going to Settings - > Data usage - > and restrict background data for unwanted app.
-You should not have to turn off your phone to charge it. Most battery chargers deliver more than enough current to power your phone and charge it at the same time. Doing so will not lengthen the charge time, and leaving a phone on allows the user to be aware of its fuel gauge, so that you can remove it when the battery is full.
-When using a car charger, do not charge the battery when the inside temperature of your car is hot. Wait until the car has cooled before you plug in the phone.​

Really a helpful thread for beginners , good job the only thing I must back talk is " auto brightness saves battery " , set a low manual value saves more battery as Auto brightness ( my feeling )

Great thread. To add to recommendations.
If rooted, use bootlocker app to keep bootloader locked until you need it unlocked and use flashify or similar to keep stick recovery until you need otherwise. This will make your phone a lot less vulnerable to thieves.

I would like to add, move to 2G network when using Wifi or voice calls are more important and you ain't doing any related internet activities. Huge save in battery. If you are rooted use xposed and GravityBox to change it in one click.. Or use Tasker to automate such changes. Whatsapp and fb notification works well in 2g data network.
If rooted, use greenify to stop continuous background apps.. (facebook was one of the biggest battery hog due to this). People with lot of newsreader app can be beneficial

If users who want to mod and flash are not able to use a terminal emulator, they also should not use adb also imo I think you may underestimate the interested user who wants to learn something.

lol No I don't. The flashable zip remains an alternative and avoids typos From my actual experience some folks don't like Terminal commands even if it works well.

I want that users avoid using tools, zips... as possible (not offending) for learning purpose. Just 2 simple commands in T. Emulator.

I find it amusing that people post pictures of battery usage of an N5 on standby for 2 hours and its ellegedly dead.......I was repairing devices from 6:10am to 11:30(ish)PM!! and had 32%......maybe I have a SuperNexus!!!
Also, my 2¢.....there's no camera glitch. When you attribute time/date stamps to photos, it engages location and clock stand by. DERP!!! I own my own mobile repair business and deal with N5's all the time aside from my four, never once have I seen a battery drain in stand by with "no background processes running". Send your N5 to me, I'll replace the battery and root/mod it for cheaper than you paid for Photoshopping the "proof of camera battery drain"! Thanks for the awesome thread folks!!!

Droid4 ROM Reviews - SlimKat

SlimKat is a V4 (KitKat) ROM by SlimRoms. It's based on AOSP 4.4.4. Its latest release, build 9.0, was Dec-22 2014 with a 3.0.8 kernel.
Its disadvanatges are that it is no longer supported by the Slim dev team; no custom overclock kernels exist for it; no hand-wave for notifications lockscreen feature of the later 5.0+ versions; and there's no support for altpart Safestrap.
But that's where its downsides end and its upsides begin. With nearly any 3rd-party ROM it's a series of tradeoffs. What works and what doesn't, what do you need and what can you do without. Not so with SlimKat. Everything, and I mean everything, just... works. Flawlessly. Even HDMI. This ROM is feature-rich, yet still so lean you can run it with Slim's normal Gapps package on the stock slot. At 180MB, Slim's normal Gapps package is 15MB smaller than the OpenGapps nano package for 7.1.2. I've been running this as a daily driver for over a month and not a single thing has gone wrong with it. No force-closes. No hangs. No jitters. No crashes. No random reboots. This is as close to a stock ROM's stability and performance as anything I've ever used. It's fast and responsive and handles whatever you throw at it. All that and great battery life too - I typically get about 36-44 hours from a full charge.
Support for 4.4.4 is extensive throughout the app community and I have yet to find an app that doesn't work with it. Custom fonts are easily installed with iFont and there are extensive interface and navigation customizations available in the SlimCenter. Cyanogenmod/LineageOS 11 themes are available for it on the Play Store.
The stock SlimLauncher is extensively configurable, and supports gestures, desktop folders, grid size configuration, icon size configuration, hidden apps, hidden icon labels and much more. I prefer a horizontally paged interface for my app drawer, and this one works exactly as this should work, where you swipe left or right and each page of app icons disappears behind the next, rather than a continuous side-scroll. This is especially important on the Droid 4 because of its TFT screen's limitations that make things difficult to read when continuously scrolling against a dark background.
While most ROMs will let you disable some system apps, SlimKat has a SlimSizer app in the SlimCenter settings that lets you save or fully remove any included system app from a simple checklist. SU is integrated and the ROM is rooted out-of-the-box. Google Voice works seamlessly with it. Voice Search starts up quickly and doesn't hang or crash, and interactions with it are predictable. The built-in WiFi hotspot works flawlessly. It natively supports Face Unlock.
Its sole quirks are that the keyboard doesn't illuminate when you slide it open until you press a key, and direct reboot to recovery doesn't work (just do a standard reboot and activate SafeStrap recovery at startup).
Verdict: Hands down, the overall best 3rd party ROM I've tested for the Droid 4. Rock-solid, OEM-level reliability and performance in a compact yet feature-rich package with outstanding battery life. If you don't require a newer version of Android (5+) for app compatibility or features, and don't want the code-bloat of the later versions, you simply can't do better than SlimKat on the Droid 4.

Update: After six months with SlimKat, I'm moving on. There's only one real problem I've had with it, but it's been really annoying. Frequently it just won't wake up the screen - the soft buttons light up, but the screen stays blank. It can often take several attempts before it works, if at all - usually after the third try I just give up and wait it out until the next time I want to check it. This is especially frustrating when receiving a call, as I've often missed calls just waiting for it to wake up the screen so I can answer it. Never been able to track down the cause or figure out a solution.
There's also a strange problem in the file system that there are "ghost" files throughout. Blanks show up randomly throughout my gallery, and duplicates of music and videos also work their way in, confusing the database and making it difficult and sometimes impossible to play back these files. I tried clearing app data for the Gallery and rescanning, even moving files to new folders, but it would only fix it temporarily and eventually these would come back. My gallery would show I had 1200 pictures when I had at most 350, and my music library would also show five copies of the same song, only one of which would actually play. I thought maybe these were ghosts of deleted files, but could never be sure. I used an alternate gallery app, QuickPic, and it worked normally without the blanks.
The hotspot feature had issues as well. It would pass the traffic for the connected devices, but after a while it would stop working for the apps on the phone itself, until I shut it off.
I'm not sure if it's a possible problem in my phone either, so I'm trying something different.

Huawei Private Space vs Samsung Secure Folders: how do they compare?

A few questions on Huawei Private Space vs Samsung Secure Folders
As per the subject, I’d like to understand how the two compare. I have a Samsung and am considering getting the Huawei P20 Pro. I have found a broad description of Private Space in this manual: https://www.devicemanuals.eu/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/P20-user-guide-EN.pdf
However, there are a few things I haven’t understood:
With Samsung Secure Folders, not all apps are immediately available: you have to manually select which ones you want to be made available and ‘reinstall’ them within Secure Folders. Does Private Space work the same way? Or does it immediately give you access to a ‘blank’ version of all your apps?
If it’s the latter,does Huawei provide an isolated sandbox like Samsung, or how do the two differ? The way I understand it, if you move Chrome to Secure Folders and then run it, you are not running the same executable file, but the one you have installed in the sandbox. With Huawei, are you running the same executable but then data is stored in a separate folder, eg the way a program is available to multiple users on the same PC?
Do the two offer a comparable level of protection and isolation, or is one of the two much better (if so, why?)? For example, if you download a file from a private space browser session, is it available outside of it? With the third-party app Parallel Space it is, for example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lbe.parallel.intl&hl=en_GB .

SF vs PS
I used SF on Galaxy and since recently use PS on Mate 20 Pro, and a bit disappointed with PS, so looking for a better way of using it and see this thread which nobody seems to answer (?)
Both need to install selected apps, which is fine for me. However while SF is a space that can be used in parallel/concurrent with the normal space, PS is likely to create another user profile with encrypted data (true?), so it must be used exclusively.
However, switching from one mode to another is a pain with PS: needs long step (turn off screen then login, or long steps in setting); SF allows to be used in parallel (so same time) with main space (out of SF) and can quickly access the SF apps per task list. This is good, as we used the app in normal space but for certain data and apps we need to be in encrypted mode or protected with separated password/lock. PS can't do so, it must get out of PS to use normal mode and vice-versa, a pain for me, unless we have to install many more apps in PS as well, but then it will be redundance with normal space.
Another negative point with PS is app notification from PS, for instance, if we setup WhatsApp or another messenger in PS (or email? not tested) which use another account than the ones in main space. While we are in main space, the notification of new message in PS won't be shown so impossible to know that's there is new message. It's not a case with SF: notification still pass out of SF that we know to switch to SF to read, quickly, by task list for instance.
Data sharing or moving in out is not optimal from my viewpoint. Both work on main memory only, SF move in/out but limited number of files at a time, a pain if you have many files; PS... hum, the only way I find is thru obb folder, but this sounds to share and be visible to other users on this phones as well!!!! It is likely a Public folder rather than only for this user within both mode PS and non PS. Also, SF can be customised in setting to enable/disable clipboard between 2 areas while PS can't which is a pain too.
By the way, both SF and PS allow fingerprint to access this private space, but fingerprint is a joke for me (easily to hack) and I would not recommend it unless for temporarily use. I like the face recognisation (with eyes, a must, otherwise it's a weakness) mode of M20P, unfortunately this does not work in PS mode!

Samsung Secure Folder lacks multiple instance feature
Samsung's Secure Folder is more user friendly in term of ease of use than Stock android version of multiple user feature.
copying and moving files, opening app from the interface of main phone without logout and login another user like Stock android multiple user mode.
android's multiple user feature is shipped with some android devices, but others like Samsung just replace this feature with it's secure folder.
The biggest drawback of Samsung's Secure Folder is not possible to have multiple instance of it. you can only have one such Folder per phone.
every not fully trusted android app should run in an isolated space like Secure folder, and should offer some high level of control like, suspending(like power off), giving mock GPS, mock IMEI, IMSI etc.
