John Lewis UK - Finance Options available 0% APR - OnePlus 7 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

NOTE* - AFAIK THIS IS UK ONLY.
Hi all,
Have been looking for the best and cheapest way to obtain the 1+7 Pro, and seeing as I don't want to shell out £700 - £800 in one hit, i was looking at contracts.
However with only 3 offering the device at a minimum of £43 pm with £29 up front and it only being the 6GB Variant, i started exploring other avenues.
EE Will be offering the 5G Variant but I've been warned that there may be some kind of SIM / Bootloader lock down which would be a pain, not to mention that it's ridiculously expensive.
Now John Lewis are offering finance over 12 Months, and it's 0% interest which is awesome.
Here's a link with more info.
https://www.johnlewis.com/our-services/interest-free-credit
Bare in mind that John Lewis do offer the 8GB variant with 256GB storage.
2 year guarantee and it's available in 2 colours.
Not too shabby, just make sure you meet the criteria and your credit isn't completely awful and you'll be ok

I can't see any finance options for the OnePlus 7 Pro? Only an option to trade in an older device for money back? :/

12 months? That's quite a hefty monthly fee on top of your package when you can get a 24 month contract for the same. Sadly I already went with Three for the 6/128GB option, still loving it though.

That's just not true mate lool.
You pay for one year then you're done. Not 2 years. Plus it's you already have a contract like me then this is perfect.

LOL I know you pay for a year, that would be the 12 months contract...but that's you just paying the phone itself, not the package/sim to actually use it for calls/data/texts, you need to then add that on top. If you get a 24 month contract with a provider you get both the phone and the package for the same price as just paying for that phone. That was my point.

Do the math mate..
Bare in mind this is the 8GB model. So....
£699 over 12 months is £58 pm, nothing more to pay, that's cheaper than PayPal and spreads the cost instead of paying £699 in one hit..
Three offer the device and 4GB for £43 pm over 24 months is £473, bare in mind you will be hit with a bill increase each financial year. So it would be about £488-£490 depending on inflation.
X2 is £946- £980 bare in mind that's for the 6GB model and only 4GB of data on three who aren't the best network at all, possibly the worst customer service in the UK, that's not an opinion I'm alone in thinking btw.
I personally already have a sim with EE, so no need to pay anything more...plus I can sell my p20 pro and cut that bill by £300
That £300 could pay for another sim if I really needed it. Meaning a saving of £200 over 2 years Vs your contract and I get the 8GB variant, not the 6GB.. and a contract with a company who's customer service isn't the worst.
I know it's nice to rationalise getting what you got but no need to bash a finance option when there's nothing wrong with it.
More to the point it's a better deal than the one you went with..

P.S. Looks like I can upgrade to the Tilt (no new contract) for $399 as well - I chose 'Upgrade Device Only', which allowed me to keep my current plan unchanged (including my trusty Medianet service).
yep, i was just getting ready to post this..
Included Accessories
1350 mAh Lithium Ion Polymer Battery
AC Wall Charger
Mini USB Sync Cable
Stylus
Extra Sylus
My wallet is at work and AT&T has the Tilt ready for me
Yeah I was hoping for a better price too. If you do the upgrade device only, I know it leaves your plan intact. Does it extend your contract 2 years though?
Where the heck is PDA Personal Max? Does anyone have it in their list? I HAVE a cell card, I don't need tethering, dagnabit!
And no data plan discount? We're better off getting it from the retail site!

I'm wondering the same thing - I got to the very end of the process and had to click to agree to a Service Agreement that specified 2yrs. I asked this same question in another thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334349&page=3
Richard
I had an option to upgrade the phone only for 399 or upgrade the device and plan as well..so i tried to see if price is goona changed it did, instant 100$ off and 25 dollar instant credit..275 plus tax and 18 dollar upgrade fee because I bought the 8525 like 3 months ago. because it seemed like I bought new plan and data plan,I can get the 100 MIR as well, they won't have esxuce not to give,,I saved 225$..so I really don't understand the big deal if they exttend the contract you know..if a better phone comes I can do the same process over and over again, with out having to wait 2 years,,so the money I will save over time is justified if I have to abondan my contract and pay 175$ one day.. what do you guys think?

FWIW, in the other thread I referenced above, at least one person has confirmed contract extension showing on his account after the $399 deal
As far as the "big deal" on contract, my company pays for my phone and the monthly bill is a LOT more than I'd carry personally. I don't want to be at my company's mercy if they decide they don't need me to have a phone (or don't need me at all) with 23 mos left on a contract. Sure, they *SHOULD* cover the ETF but why risk it....
Richard
in your case yeah its a big deal but for me when I just saved over 200 with the extention,I don't mind the possibility to be punished 175 only. 399+tax VS 274.99+tax is a difference that I can't let go,couldn't live with myself haha.I can extent again in 6 months if they come up with a better phone..so I am in control and getting the discounts ..you know...but for you ,no contract is clean and necessary..

UK Buyers: O2 has exclusivity for 1 month

O2 will be the only UK operator selling the Nexus 4 for the first month of the handset going on sale, with the first 100 customers to buy the phone each receiving a free LG television.

"O2 will be the only UK operator"
Tesco, Argos, PCWorld, Currys and Google Play are not operators
So that's either a PR coup for O2, sloppy journalism by pocket lint or both. My money is on both.
I'm not buying for the first month anyway. I'm waiting to see what's wrong with the phone first.
Easily scratched, easily chipped, screen lift, tearing, battery drain ... catches fire

I'm pretty certain that anti-competitive practices like that are illegal under EU law.
My guess is that it's a PR stunt but with a toothless watchdog the profits from sales would outweigh any fines, if they got one.
Who knows, O2 is getting mentioned on fora so it's working
I hope it is available in high street stores sim free. I plan on selling my HOX on Gumtree then buying a N4 from a shop that same day as I don't have the spare cash to buy the Nexus first
The N4 is 'free' on o2 on their 24 month/£36 a month (1GB data, unlimited calls, unlimited texts) contract...anyone care to work out what a similar sim-only deal is? I'd imagine it'll be a LOT cheaper to buy the phone out right and get a SIM-only contract...
EDIT: o2 Simplicity SIM-only deal: £20 a month (1GB data, unlimited calls, unlimited texts) x 24 months = £480 + £279 (16GB Nexus 4) = £759 for the 2 years...o2 give you phone for 'free for signing up to pay £864 over 2 years. That makes perfect sense, o2...

I reckon you must be bonkers to go for one of these deals. Surely anyone with sense will be buying outright and switching to a far more competitive SIM only deal.
I recall that when Google launched the Nexus One their intention was to shake up the mobile phone market by selling direct to the consumer - however it was priced far too high at circa £500. I ordered mine direct from Google and as part of the shipping tracking you could follow the flight from the USA - much better than the recent Nexus 7 debacle!!
I reckon with the low priced Nexus 4 a huge number of consumers will be buying unlocked phones.

Yeah, you'd be silly to tie yourself in to £30+ a month contract for 24 months when it's only £279 for the 16GB version sim-free.
I really think that price is amazing. With the more commercial S3 and iPhones being around £500 (with more memory and radios, I know) the price for the Nexus 4 is fantastic. Lack of LTE means nothing to me. The LTE plans EE have released are far too expensive. Something like £35 a month for a 500mb data plan. No thanks.
SIM-free phone and Giff-Gaff (runs on o2) SIM - £15/month unlimited data with decent minutes!! BOOM!!
http://giffgaff.com/goodybags
Now we play the waiting game. And then not buy from O2, since they have stupid prices. I'm also on Giffgaff, so £12 a month for me starting November for 250 minutes, which I always never use, plus unlimited data.
Woo, I NEEDS IT NOW... LET ME PREORDER!

Buying a Nexus 4 full price at T-Mobile?

Seeing as how getting a Nexus 4 from the Play Store within the next month may be impossible, who here is considering / has already purchased one full price from T-Mobile?
To my understanding, they're the exact same units as the ones sold on the Play Store (not carrier locked)
Another little perk is that exchanges would be a breeze if there was some defect in the phone.
How much is the price for that?

$499.
An idea would be to start a new contract, then cancel it over the phone in the same hour. I think your total price would be around $400

+ tax and prorated cell phone bill for at least 1 day.
T-Mobile is $499 plus tax
Good luck trying to buy off contract at T-Mobile store, I found 2 stores in Atlanta that had 1 left and they refused to sell of contract. They said the first batch is for new lines and upgrades. I tried to get one of my cousins upgrade for t-mobile, but he was out of town and I couldn't get him to make me a authorized user since he wasn't the primary to account. You can try your luck, it might be a YMMV situation.

Prorated cell phone bill would be less than $5.
No tax here in Oregon, the only thing I may have to worry about would be an activation fee
Are you sure you're able to do that? I thought they would try to charge you the full month before canceling.

when is good time to buy Note 8 for a bit lower price?

hi all,
I want to purchase Note 8, but it seems to much expensive for my budget. Even though with free gifts (which you can resell) if you add up taxes, it will come up the same.
What you guy think, lets say if i wait 2-3 months the price will really drop ( I am wiling to wait until the end of year if it make sense )?
One possible scenario is they may drop the price a little bit, but also discontinue gift option, which no make sense for me.
Does anyone aware of recent dynamics, based on previous Galaxy models, lets say S8 or so?
Or , does price really drops on Black friday?
Thanks in advance.
I got my note 5 at Sam's on a preblack Friday for a $1 a few years ago

I suggest this will depend on where you live and how you make your purchase and what you are prepared to gamble.
In my country there are zero 'contract' sales. we all have to buy our mobiles at top price. There is also a sales price that all outlets maintain meaning regardless where one buys, it will be the same price, don't ask it makes zero business sense to me either. Having said that the law, in theory, protects consumers. If we don't like the purchase we have 20 days to return for a full refund. Warranty problems are generally taken care off. In other words its a relatively 'safe' place to buy a mobile.
I am paying 1,020.00€ for the Note 8. My SGS8+ cost 920.00€ , 100.00€ difference but if I take into account the free DEX offer, worth 150.00€ here, my Note 8 is cheaper than the S8+!
Now we go to the 'open market'. This can be a gamble and a nightmare. Sure you may get what you consider a bargain as many did with their Note 7 purchase from Dubai BUT when the woopsie hit the fan while I got a full refund on the spot TWICE for both iterations, those who bought from some other countries got stuffed. Not all but too many for comfort.
My point is you will get what you pay for. With an expensive purchase like this I use a reputable international outlet, FNAC, and am relatively well looked after. If I choose to do so I could also buy from, say Dubai and save tax etc but....
Amazon CAN BE a good purchase outlet BUT Amazon are using more and more third party sellers and many of those are not based in Europe meaning they are sent from China or where ever and that causes massive import problems here. IF one can purchase an Amazon sourced product that is sold by a vendor within Europe one can, after a small time frame, find the price of such items reduced. Again such reductions can mean grey imports etc. Check the sellers Amazon profile.
For me I pay top price in this country in the city I live near from a reputable outlet and sleep well at night. Not everyone is the same though, thank heavens.
Take care with such purchases its not the initial purchase than can be the problem, the problem is IF the mobile is a brick are you safe in getting a replacement under warranty etc blah blah. You pay your money you accept your choice.
Last point being how long are you willing to wait? Most of us here are techno nuts who want this device yesterday! No way would the majority of my peers here be willing to wait even an extra day to save a euro!

hi Ryland,
thanks for taking your time and replying me back.
The main point of this question is, if I wait 3-4 months will price drop ? I know it is hard to tell, but based on other models dynamics what you think?
Or lets say, if it drop just 150$ and no more free stuff , it means no make sense to wait...
I completely share your opinion that it is worth to buy from local authorized resellers...
I am located in USA..
3 to 4 months is a good time.. With s8 plus the prices fell a decent amount in 3 months..
I am on the same boat.. I want to buy a career device may be even used one. I m in Canada

yes, thats what I was thinking. Same here, I dont mind to buy a used one. Crossing fingers for battery not to go bad
Lets say how much S8 droped its initial price. I believe when it released, they were giving some extra stuff too, right? If the price just drop about same amount as gift and now dropped price option is withouit gift, it means there is no real drop, in that case no make sense to wait 12+ (3-4) months
In a couple of months you'll be able to get Note 8's off ebay at discounted prices as people will sell who've received free upgrades etc. Also set up Pricespy alerts online. Sometimes sellers offer 10% off deals for instance so you should find something in a few weeks. And of course it depends how successful it is!

exactly. I don't think the DEX thing is a good promotion either and obviously no one is buying it and they've a huge stock to dispose of (otherwise why not reduce the price of the phone and make it more attractive). Companies generally won't allow USB devices to connect to laptops and I don't have a screen or keyboard at home as got 2 tablets and a smart tv. There will be loads of DEX for sale for £40 soon as people realise its not getting used.

Mmmm, A lot of what you write holds water however I think the DEX, worth 150€ here, is a very nice free offer. I have no interest in the DEX despite being addicted to gadgets and tech toys, I do understand though that the DEX certainly has appeal to a wide range of other users and is one very clever set up.
I would not have bought the DEX simply because I have zero use for it and even though tempted I just knew it would end up in a draw collecting dust. As one is coming free I will try it out then after let it collect dust in a draw.
Just as a foot note the DEX is selling very well here and its been difficult to even find one in stock in any outlet. I guess such hardware sales will vary from country to country though. :good:

so i have my internet through Xfinity it is kind of required as far as i know. but go to https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/
and you pick the device and the "pay by the gig plan" cause then they dont charge you for data unless you use it. and go from there the note is like 32 bucks they have a protection plan for 12 more also. and after all of it you pay the 1st month payment on the phone (32) and the taxes (mine came to 67 bucks) so a total of 102 bucks give or take for me to preorder the Note8.
Hard to beat Verizon + Best Buy offer! $12.75/mo for 24 months is outstanding for a phone of this quality. That's what, $300? Tough to beat!
Find someone who had the Note 7 and doesn't want to Note 8 and use their promo to get the $425 Trade in

this is terms and conditions I found :
"Device Payment Pricing & Other Info
Offers valid 8/25/17 through 9/13/17. Restrictions apply. $200 savings off regular retail price when activating a new XFINITY Mobile line of service. Valid on select devices. While supplies last. Limit 5 per account. © 2017 Comcast. All rights reserved.
Additional fees, such as those for government taxes and regulatory recovery fees, apply."
so basically in order to get the phone, you have to activate a new mobile line.

I actually didn't really loose any money upgrading surprisingly. O2 wanted £399 to pay off the device to upgrade. Sold the phone on ebay for £399. Paid off the device plan and upgraded to OP5T for free. (Apart from ebay fees) Got a black friday deal so got 50GB data for the price of 10GB so got way more data than I had on the OP5, got 12 month xbox live and I also have a discount from work so I pay £42 a month. So in this scenario I was actually better off upgrading than staying with my OP5 and waiting til the OP6.

LoL so you actually paid $50 or $60 to upgrade, not free. But that's still pretty good.

Nope, I technically didn't pay anything at all as the free 12 month xbox membership covers the ebay fees The fee was £20 anyway and I got extra 35GB of data.
I usually keep phones for at least a year or two. The only differences in between the OP5 and the OP5T are better camera and higher res screen. I don't take a lot of pictures, and 1080p suits me just fine. I may shoot for the OP6 when it arrives, though.
