Hi there,
I tested a few apps for having a quick look on the clock/ lockscreen when taking the phone out of the pocket or with a wave gesture:
The only one that worked well for me with the pixel 3a was "WaveUp" from juanitobananas.
You can get it on F-Droid and playstore.
There are Tasker profiles which enable / disable AOD based on intercepting notifications from certain apps. It's not the same as Wave/Jedi gesture, but it does save battery by having AOD on only when notifications are there and kind of defeats the purpose of Wave gesture unless you use it to check time.

Q: How does one make quick launch (launching camera via lockscreen widget) behave just like launching the camera from the app drawer? If you've noticed, quick launch forgets everything, defaults to Superior Auto everytime.
Attached: Quick launch settings in the Camera app - the only quick launch settings I could find.
That's your only option when using Quick Launch and Capture.
Don't know if you can change it with a custom ROM or mod.

I've seen a lot of automation apps that allow you to make a quick settings tile to perform custom tasks, but I want to do the reverse. Certain apps on my phone like PIA VPN have a quick settings tile and it's the only way to toggle the VPN without the UI showing up. I would like to use it with MacroDroid/Tasker. Is there a universal method of activating quick settings tile of a 3rd party app with Tasker/MacroDroid without touch shenanigans? Thanks.
I've seen on Reddit that you can potentially do this through Tasker's "Launch App" action.
When you're in the screen selection for the app, instead of taping on the app (here PIA VPN), long press on it and you'll see some different options. Hopefully there is one related to the tile. Reddit post mentions it as: LaunchVPNForTileService

I use PIA also but I run mine through OpenVPN. I can connect and disconnect through it whenever I am connected through my work network. It does pop up the app but it closes automatically. On disconnect, it doesn't show

Yeah, for PIA, there happens to be a tile service activity which can be used to do the same as it's quick setting tile, but this doesn't seem to be universal. Even Shazam has a tile to auto-shazam, but there isn't any tile service activity associated with it that I could find. (Not that I want to use auto-shazam with tasker.) I was wondering whether there was a universal solution to this, just like how IntentTask allows you to use ANY app shortcut with Tasker. Guess we'll have to wait until some dev comes up with an app to solve this problem. Thanks.
So I've been experimenting with the Tasks Edge Panel and I've come across a problem. I want to add shortcuts like driving directions created as a widget from the Google Maps app. The issue is that I can only add them to the panel if they exist on my home screen somewhere. If I delete the widget from my home screen then they disappear from the panel. Not much point in having the shortcut on the panel if I have to have it somewhere else too.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
No suggestion, but this has been fixed, for a certain value of fixed, in the October 2018 security update.
If you reset your phone, your shortcuts will be stuck in the Tasks Edge settings, and you will not be able to remove them. New entries will disappear just like always.
I ended up just using a different edge panel that is for widgets only. It's a 3rd party add on but it works ok

As mentioned in the title, does anyone know of any existing gesture applications that mimics the power/fingerprint reader button of the Samsung Galaxy S10e? specifically the swipe down to show the notification panel. I know the xz1c is not a large device and I can certainly reach the top edge one handed, however I think it's still nice to utilize the power button for this or other features.

you can try fingerprint scanner apps available on the play store, and use tasker shortcuts to achieve this. the fingerprint scanners are not always reliable though, and need to be removed from doze / battery optimization to work consistently
alternatively, if rooted you can try the Xposed Edge module. I swipe down the side edges of my device to pull the notification bar down, and it works very well
Is there a way to disable the swipe down menu on the lockscreen? The whole point of the phone being locked is so that I can only access the info/notifications.
Well if I can just swipe down while on the lockscreen and see the previewed text/who o missed a call from/email etc it kinda makes locking the phone pointless.
Any idea how to disable that feature? I feel like I'm just missing it but IDK?

This is under settings, lockscreen, notifications.
You can hide content or disable them on lockscreen in general.

I can still drag the pull down menu when the screen is locked.
Anyone can turn on/off Audio, Flashlight, Blue light filter, Do Not Disturb, Auto Rotate, Always On Display, Sync, Edge Lighting, Dolby Atmos, Night mode, Bixby Routines and Navigation bar settings. Either I am missing something or allowing anyone unfettered access to the settings on the locked screen is a new feature of the OS.
I want to completely disable/hide the pull down menu on the locked screen. If I need to do anything on the phone with the exception of making emergency calls and using the camera, I should first login with the pattern, fingerprint or facial recognition. A Samsung rep responded to a post similar to this on the Samsung community forum that only a third party app can completely disable that pull down menu. smh. I really hope someone here found a way to disable that menu.
