I have a MotoX on KK 4.4 rooted.
Recently (since it started bugging about the 4.4.2 OTA update) I notice that occasionally and seemingly randomly, the device with make the animation for switching apps. The active app (even the home screen) fill fade out, then back in again. it almost appears as if the App is switching to something else that is NOT displayed, then back again.
Apps react to this as if the app was suspended and reactivated (Games pause, emails and websites refresh, etc).
I thought it may be something I added from rooting, i.e. Xposed, but I uninstalled all root apps and the behavior persists.
Any advice?
I never had that, I have an rooted and bootloader unlocked Moto X, Gravity Box and other frameworks enabled, I thing the best you could do is to reset your phone, and maybe re-do de update.
Bumping thread.
Update: I tried resetting my phone back, and it went away, but as soon as it started trying to push the 4.4.2 update (which fails to install anyway) the problem returned.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Sometimes when there is modified system files, the OTA update will fail. And to restore this files, maybe the best option is returning to your Stock Android (the same version you are using at the moment), guide here, works flawlessly: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515)
And then trying to do the OTA update, remember that soon we'll get 4.4.3, so maybe this bug could be fixed.
Okay so i did a clean install of the stock rom (Pie) with May update. Flashed all the files and was finally at the home screen. Got a notification for June security patch and i installed it immediately. Keep in mind till now no modifications were done to the phone including rooting, the rom is stock, clean and without any modifications. The only thing unlocked is my bootloader.
I observed when the update reaches around 80% it says update unsuccessful. No changes were made to the system. I tried downloading the update again, rebooting, formating/wiping data both via stock recovery as well as TWRP, factory reset. Even tried updating without SD-card just in case. Again flashed the full stock rom but to no avail, the update was not successful.
Any ideas why i can't apply june update and how am i supposed to solve this? Thanks

I have no ported apps. As i said, its stock rom with no modifications. I didn't install any app from anywhere. The only apps i have in my phone are pre-installed apps which come with the stock rom such as Google Drive, Play Books.. I even tried clearing the data of the pre-installed apps but still no update. Also today i tried flashing the retail version of the stock rom with may security update. I think there is an issue as i flashed the retail version of the rom, the about section from the settings app still shows software channel as "Retin". Shouldn't it be showing retail version

You have to flash the first pie update (November patch) and then you can do updates.
Just to confirm success, I have P40 Pro updated to latest firmware 11.0.0.223 and working GMS. For half of the day now, installing everything I want.
First i did FW downgrade to 10.1.0.131 and applying lzplay manually (you can use Goglefier, same result) using this great guide
Then used OTA updates to get phone to latest available FW which was I think 11.0.0.198. Then used official HiSuite to apply three more updates to end with 11.0.0.223
Then I followed this latest guide to fix GMS. I did one additional trick - disabling internet during whole process. What I learned during first try is that when you apply fixes (mainly downgrading GMS), phone sometimes manages to uprate these back. Because Play Store is by default set to update automatically. And it messes whole proces leaving you with idea that it doesnt work. It works fine, you just need to have correct versions of GMS modules.
After finishing with video guide, I enabled internet for brief moment to load Play store. As soon as it is loaded just disable internet again. Go to settings of Play Store and in Settings > Network Preferences set Auto-update apps to Dont auto-update apps. Which hopefully stops GMS updates in background. And keeps them running till Google finds out and makes updates enforced in next version regardless of auto-update settings...
UPDATE after week of using phone: GMS hacked in phone worked, but notifications coming through Google push services did not. I tried few available solutions but none of these did the job. At the end I used Ilham solution provided by Badmania98 in his thread. And it is working for over week now without any glitches. Notifications coming through. There are some minor issues like Gmain dark mode not working, but nothing gamebreaking. Cheers to Badmania98 for his help!
UPDATE2 Tried to downgrade through Hisuite proxy, using 10.0.1.100_OVE and it keeps failing after download. Says just Update failed. I hope that I identified properly my phone according to guide
Base sw ver ELS-LGRP4-OVS 11.0.0.223
Preload sw ver ELS-N29-PRELOAD 11.0.0.3(C432R5)
Cust software (C432)
Tried to downgrade to
Emui 10 .131 - fails without downloading
Emui 11 .151, .168, .186 - fails after download just by msg Update failed
Is Hisuite 10.0.1.100_OVE version enough to process Emui 11 firmwares?
UPDATE3 So Hisuite 10.0.1.100_OVE cant downgrade to Emui 10 from 11 according to this post by author of Hisuite Proxy. By using latest version of Proxy from author website and by selecting fw 11.0.0.151 I got it working and downgrading from .223 to .151 - now I hope it will be possible to go down to Emui 10 by official Hisuite.
Slowly progressing back to beginning
UPDATE4 sooo after successfully flashing with recommended HiSuite 10.1.0.550 and latest Proxy to fw 11.0.0.151 I ended up in eRecovery mode automatically downloading 11.0.0.202 through wifi. Hope it will work else I have softbricked phone...
Same issue for me too, spend my whole sunday to find a way but nothing works it seems…
Contact @badmania98.
UPDATE5 WiFi eRecovery worked like charm upgrading to .208
Seems that using latest proxy and hisuite to downgrade should work, confirmed by ProfessorJTJ. I just forgot to set proxy to rollback os option. It should be enough to "Wipe cache & data from erecovery" to boot .151
Trying again with downloaded .168 - too lazy to wait again for .151 to download (it got deleted by hisuite after update). We will see... and it worked fine. Selecting rollback os option added factory reset after installation and phone booted .168 just fine.

Don't worry this has nothing to do with your system update, this is something else. This is a new security check added by Google in their fight against unofficial GMS installations. It would have happened even if you didn't update your system. Actually it is happening to EMUI10 users too so....

Guys, you are doing it totally wrong. There is NO NEED TO DOWNGRADE your system software if you already have GMS installed. This has nothing to do with your system software version and you don't actually have to re-trigger the GMS installation (rights elevation/lzplay) exploit.
You just need to fix your Play certificate to stop those annoying play protect messages.
Yes, they added additional verifications. Yes, that was probably targeted against this hack, among others.
What you need is simply to download this pack:
Install Google Play Store by ICTFIX.net
MediaFire is a simple to use free service that lets you put all your photos, documents, music, and video in a single place so you can access them anywhere and share them everywhere.
www.mediafire.com
And then uninstall Google Play Services
then install this one: 7-GSM Play Protect certified Fix.apk
Then reboot
And the spam notifications should be gone.
Replacing Google Play Services with this app will force-regenerate your Play certificate,
and this version of Google Play Services does not have the problematic check in question.
Still you should NOT update Google Play Services as the latest version DOES have the check that will trigger this event again.
You do NOT NEED to install anything else from this pack.
Actually you could reupload this with only this file present.

Yes, it is missing that option. It is not supported anymore, and if you force it, you WILL HAVE PROBLEMS.
If you REALLY want to downgrade you can use HiSuiteProxy and an older version of HiSuite. However I don't recommend this for 3 reasons:
- it is unneccessary
- it is dangerous. You WILL lose USB connectivity after the upgrade, and you can only regain it when you update again to the latest system software version. And you can only do it with OTA.
- You can very easily brick your phone if you use HiSuiteProxy as it bypasses many of the firmware validation checks
+1 Huawei is changing things around with the latest HiSuite. Older versions will not work for software updates/downgrades for much longer.

Of course it keeps failing. 10.0.1.100 is NOT USABLE anymore. Bender007 is too lazy to update it in his guide. You need a different version 10.0.1.550 (grab it here https://github.com/ProfessorJTJ/HISuite-Proxy/releases/download/2.3.5/Hisuite_10.1.0.550_OVE.zip ) this one works for HiSuiteProxy and EMUI 11 tested up to 11.0.0.203.
However I would highly recommend AGAINST downgrading as it is dangerous and completely unneccessary if you already have GMS installed. It doesn't matter if you have the play protect error message or not, you can fix that without downgrading. There is only one case when you need to downgrade and that is if you don't have google apps installed at all.

You will if you keep jumping corners. Don't try to experiment, this is dangerous enough already.
Once again, if you have Google apps installed already, then it is absolutely UNNECCESSARY TO DOWNGRADE YOUR SYSTEM SOFTWARE. You can fix play protect errors very easily by just replacing an app on your phone. Why you guys would want to go through the whole downgrade process all over again is something I don't get. But, whatever you prefer
Thanks for great explanation, hands down! Meanwhile I managed to directly downgrade phone to 10.1.0.131 and lzplay it and now going up through fw updates. Next time I will focus directly on fixing GMS, geting bit more experienced with this every step
You're welcome! Enjoy the experience and remember: keep it calm!
YOu can fix almost ALL issues that can arise with GMS without ever downgrading again. This is because the only thing you really need the downgrade for is to enable elevated privileges for the google apps (this is what that weird lzplay app does) and you only need to do that once.
The only thing you shouldn't do is a factory data reset as it would obviously wipe away these permissions too, in which case you would have to do a downgrade, but not in any other case.
Play protect certificates keep getting invalidated from time to time, because Google is stepping up their mechanism. But see, the scene already has fixes for it. And in this case you just need to replace an app.
Of course now, that you're doing a full downgrade+upgrade, and doing all the Googlefier stuff again, make double sure that you launched LZPLAY app as soon as it was installed as you can only do that on old versions of EMUI10. Once lzplay is loaded and given the special permissions it asks for, and googlefier having completed all of its steps, you're good to update
But don't ever update Google Play Services as that seems to be what is breaking the Google Play certificates, causing the error messages. If you did update it anyway, you can use 7-GSM Play Protect certified Fix.apk from this pack link to fix it.
First uninstall Google Play Services then install this replacement app.
Just to confirm success, I have P40 Pro updated to latest firmware 11.0.0.223 and working GMS. For half of the day now, installing everything I want.
