Android 7.0 with EMUI 5 ? with glass back like honor 8
Wow. That's amazing. Why this?
I dont know to be honest, but it will cost around 250€ in Europe. If I am right it has same motherboard as P8 lite 2015. Lets hope 7.0 will come to us soon
It has 655 so android 7 cannot be ported from it to us 650 chipset
I think this is the end of Android 7 dream for our P8 lite, and after release, probably end of all updates for old P8 lite version.
So what Huawei are basically saying is , if you want Android 7 you"ll have to buy a NEW phone. Hope our device gets LineageOS soon.
If p8 won't get it because the processor won't support it, why do you keep feeding the idea that we'll get Nougat someday? Only through Custom Roms, won't ever happen officially.
I don't think our phone could handle Nougat well... Plus it usesa different board; ours has Kirin 620 and this new one have Kirin 655

Our phone of course can handle Nougat very well.........Samsung galaxy S3 can run it smooth and our phone is superior to it ....
is funny that my moto G 4g from 2013 has custom roms with android 7.1.1 and it is smooth as ****, a lot faster than my Honor 4X (Kirin 620) with emui 4.0 lol, the only thing that my Huawei is better is on games, the rest the moto g is a lot better
anyways i'm not blaming the devs, i blame huawei for sharing a ****ty source code so, to build custom roms it is hard as hell
I think it was pretty obvious that we will not get EMUI 5 (or android 7.0 generally) officially. It really seems like huawei goes out plain and says : "You want Nougat? Buy yourselves an improved version of the phone and expect no further updates whatsoever". Also, the P8 Lite can handle Nougat like many other less powerful phones out there like the Moto G. We are counting on devs for 7.0 rom (like LineageOS) but with the source code that Huawei has provided is seems really hard.

I have also read some sources claiming that. I cannot find a link right now as there has been more than a month since i've read that. The sources claimed that the P8 Lite along with the P8 will get EMUI 4.1 with some ported-back features from EMUI 5. There is already EMUI 4.1 from vodafone so , if this is true, i am curious to see what are the ported-back features. I am starting to doubt this after seeing the release of the P8 Lite (2017) though....
Emui 4.1 will be the last EMUI Big Update for us. Huawei says "You wanna have EMUI 5? get the P8 Lite 2017"
Hello,
does anyone have any information on the P8 lite 2017 regarding root?
Will there be a seperate subforum here XDA?
Thanks

Hello,
Just one basic question, you know if Huawei P9 get Android 8.0 update ?
Thanks.
Nope. P8 doesn't get 7.0, so P9 will not get 8.0.
Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
The politic of Huawei for update can be changed for this year, no ?
But basic support is normally for two-year and p9 have just one year now and 1,5 years on first release Android O.
Sorry if my English is bad, I just learn by 3 months.

What is that for an **** answer? The P8 dont get Android 7, cause the CPU and GPU dont support the new required Vulkan Graphics etc. In Android 8 are no new technical requirements. So the Chance is very high to get Android Oreo
At least, Huawei had released the kernel sources so we can build oreo for ourselves!
By the time we get Android 8.0 the Huawei P12 is released...
Not holding my breath.... But if they screw me on it , regardless how well they worked so far I'm not buying another... So far I only bought flagships....
This is why everyone should blast them on Facebook/Twitter/Email with "Update P9 to Oreo!" so they don't left us without update!
I found video about Huawei phones which will get Oreo update, P9 included.
Hoax warning, I didn't find any source where the user got the information. No mentions in video's description nor in blog.

Fixed that for you.
OP, the answer is - never.
I still don't even have Nougat for my EVA-L29C636 and it doesn't look to likely so I think i can forget about Oreo
I think it will get Android O.

The P9 will get android 8.0. It has been confirmed on a number of sites like gadgetraid.com. It is a relatively new phone so it makes sense for it to recieve it.
I don't believe right now that we will get the 8.0.
P9 still in 7.0 and there are phones already on 7.1.2
P9 on Nougat? Nope. Not all p9's have received the update yet...
Not even all P9 cust/regions received updates to 7.0.
Goggle has released 7.1 a year ago, bit there is still no EMUI build with 7.1, only 7.0.
IMO, P9 will never receive 8.0, I'm not even sure if we would ever receive stock 7.1
It is quite common for OEM's to skip incremental builds like 7.1 - what they do is work the security patches etc into our 7.0 builds - so this is in no way an indicator of whether or not we will see 8.0.
At the moment several websites including some very reliable ones have published a large list of Huawei devices that are apparently getting 8.0 and the P9 is on that list, as are equally as old devices like the Honor 6X.
Today I read about this, (it has a link to the beta app that some of us used in the past) and the article states that the beta project has started, It's just a matter of few of us to find out If this is true (by Installing the app and checking avail projects) and which regions are eligible to the beta project (again IF this is all true).

Thanks for the link---just tried to install the Beta app on my P9 (eva-L29C636B191) but the install failed. This could (and probably is) be due to the fact that I am not on Nougat, however. Nougat just will not work on my device. I can install B361 but Nougat will not allow me to scroll anywhere on my device.
Will the P10 and P10 Plus get the latest Android 8.0 update? Huawei just published an update which I saw on Google cards stating that the FF devices will receive Android 8.0:
Mate 8
P9 and P9 Plus
Nova 2
Nova 2i
Nova Youth.
I am pretty disappointed by this as the Mate 9 received its update already, while the high-end P10 doesn't have any news for it.

Mhhh, Android versions do not add substantial features lately. Oreo added Treble, but it's optional. Other changes are hidden to the user and not really relevant, often go against users convenience or will.
EMUI on the other hand did progress a bit more. Version 5 is usable (still did not try 8), although several much needed features are still missing. IE, selectable amount of columns/rows in launcher (this, among other tweaks are provided with kangvip in P10), but it's hard to understand corporations decisions...
Summarizing, MM is fine, you are not missing much.
The really good news about Oreo is that kernel sources are not broken now (as they were when Nougat sources were published), so kernel development could make a difference now. We 'only' need an active kernel dev now
Hello I have been a lifelong xperia z compact fan, but due to the the awesome camera on the p9 and its similar screen size I am thinking of switching Have some questions that are not clear atm.
- I am used to rooting but it seems that on p9 rooting is only possible with android 6? if i buy a second hand phone with android 8 it is possible to downgrade and root? from what i have read about the p10 it is not possible.
- I noticed that the latest custom EMUI roms are android 7, Is there a big emui interface upgrade with android 8? I am primarly intersted in the camera, with the android 8 is there an improvement in camera quality/camera interface? Do people prefer older versions (6) for battery life or camera quality?
- Someone made the point that these days rooting is less usefull apart from tinkering, the only reason is a proper adblocker, do many users here decide that the latest 8.0 version is worth it over rooting?
- Do any lineage/aosp etc roms have huawei camera ported?
thank you

- Rooting by SuperSU is possible also with Nougat - but SuperSU is no more updated and bacame obsolete nowadays.
Rooting by Magisk is possible with Nougat and Oreo.
Not sure about Marshmallow but Nougat and Oreo definitely cannot be rooted by King(o)Root or so
- If not stuck with the wrong cust, your P9 should be already updated to Nougat (EMUI 5) - even if stuck with, you can rebrand and then upgrade by OTA to the latest stock Nougat.
Only for Chinese cust, P9 will be updated to Oreo (EMUI 8) - but you can also rebrand to and enjoy AL10 c00 Oreo (latest b540 OTA Patch02), with easy modifications it becomes fully 'internetional' (with all languages, Playstore, ready for Google Assistant, international 3G/4G bands, etc) and you can additionally patch Face Unlock (not supported by stock Chinese Oreo, neither by OpenKirin custom ROMs - see further below):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-eva-t3820849
- For rebranding and/or rooting you must unlock Bootloader. Code cannot be obtained (and for free) from Huawei anymore, but can be purchased for 4-5 Euros from Ministry of Solutions or DC Unlocker:
https://ministryofsolutions.com/paid-services/amp
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/DC-Phoenix-flash-repair-tutorial
- There are OpenKirin Treble ROMs based on LineageOS, ResurrectionRemix and Omni Oreo or even Pie - installation requires first to (rebrand and) update to stock Oreo:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/roms-openkirin-aosp-collection-t3828806
- Besides the AdAway root app and e.g. Magisk module YouTube Vanced, Magisk might be needed or useful if you rebrand and update to Chinese Oreo.
Namely, you must keep the Bootloader unlocked which blocks SafetyNet (and consequently e.g. GPay - not sure if GPay and NFC are supported and by which OpenKirin ROM, it also changes with their updates).
Hence, Magisk hides the unlocked Bootloader, device shows as certified and passes SafetyNet, and you can use GPay on the rebranded and patched EMUI Oreo.
- With (rebranded) stock Oreo, battery is actually better than with stock Nougat.
Cannot tell you about Marshmallow (used ir only short and long ago).
AFAIK, stock Camera with all its features is not (fully) supported by OpenKirin ROMs (used and tested only one of them for a day or two, and few months ago)
PS: If buying a new P9, you can think of dual SIM L19/L29 - but be aware, unlike single SIM L09, dual SIM lacks NFC reader.
Or even about bigger display P9 Plus - all about rebranding, patched Chinese Oreo, OpenKirin ROMs, etc, also applies to:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-plus-vie-t3843930
I recommend getting a P10 instead. But if you can get it for really cheap, the P9 is a very high value phone. Buy phone. Buy DC Unlocker credits. Unlock. Rebrand. Update. Patch. Enjoy Treble and Android O/P.
Thank you so much for the replies guys, yes after doing some more research will buy a p10 second hand, it has a headphone jack, compact screen and great camera very hard to find! unf i read that after a recent firmware update it is now impossible to unlock bootloader from unlockbootloader site .

Be careful (if you plan to do rooting/modding), for some newer Huawei phones, already coming with Android 8 or 9, it is no more possible to unlock Bootloader for free or for 4-5 Euros but only for 30 Euros
And this is not about 'missing that phone from the bootloader codes site, but due to the fact that Huawei switched for them (during the last 6-9 months) to the new and different Bootloader
It might be also questionable what kind of modding is possible at the moment on some of the newest phones with newest firmwares
Not sure does this new Bootloader apply to P10, and does that new Bootloader come by OTA to old P10 phones (better check here on XDA but on the P10 forum)
However, P9 phones do not come and do not get OTA updated with that new Bootloader (even if you rebrand to Chinese Oreo and get its OTA updates), Bootloader code can be bought for 4-5 Euros and modding (incl. rebranding, rooting, etc is possible)

First of all, to flash anything (root,TWRP, custom ROMs) you must unlock Bootloader
Second, check the threads in ROMs section but if I recall correctly for P9, EMUI 5, there were only two or three custom ROMs based on stock and one or two (LOS and maybe RR) based on AOSP - developed (and stopped) back in 2017
EMUI 5 was not ready for GSI ROMs, and every custom ROM must have been adapted and ported to P9
You probably think about new, GSI based Pixel Experience or similar ROMs - for that you would first need to update to EMUI 8, Oreo (and rebrand from your Italian to Chinese EMUI because EMUI 8 was only released for China)
All together not impossible but not as easy and friendly as if you would have a new (Android 9 or 10) Xiaomi, One Plus or a similar phone where you just unlock Bootloader and start experimenting with GSI ROMs
Last but not the least, specially if you are a newbie, think about the community regarding help, learning from, sharing experience - there are only two or three users who are still actively experimenting with GSI/AOSP custom ROMs on P9, posting only something from month to month here, hence you will mostly need to go alone

If your device is unlocked, rebranded and updated to EMUI 8.0, you can install GSI ROMs with some issues. You're better off installing OpenKirin ROMs or sticking to EMUI 8.0. This device isn't very active in development, but we will try to help. You can install phh-based Android O/P ROMs. Android Q GSIs don't work because of this device's VNDK 26.
