Really disappointed of the battery life. Wasn't the 888 supposed to be more battery efficient than the 865?
Light usage, not even 6h of SOT with 13% left. With indoor use (low brightness, wifi) , 120hz FHD+.
Compared to my OnePlus 8T, i can get slightly more than 7h of SOT...
What's your battery life ?

Yes it supposed to be more battery efficient than the 865 but it isn't , at least for now. maybe they will tweak it in next few months. we will see. But you can do some tweaks also and you should get improvement. I see some people complaining about chrome using a lot of battery so I would uninstall it for the start and use some other browser , I can recommend kiwi with built in ad blocker and dark theme and is super light. But there's many other. Also today I was experimenting with dynamic wallpapers and I saw significant battery drain which was very noticeable so I just put black background. I never went to battery to follow what's going on , my device easily go through the day with normal use. I would say from 7 to 23 my battery goes from 100% to 10 - 30% depending on the use. For me I am very satisfied with the battery life.
For me only 2h max screen on ... I hâte this phone lol. My Poco F1 is better for batteur life

How is that possible? 2h is just crazy.
From 100% to 9% with over 7h SoT without any charging. Sorry for screenshot without graph :/
@Asnamus your screenshots are not really helpful and funny, cuz you charge your phone @zacer I don't know what you try to do but why you can't provide screenshots? I will tell you why.
With stock global rom and also with beta 12.5 the battery life on Mi11 is really bad.
Staying home, almost only wifi and things like whatsapp, firefox, etc. without gaming or camera you will get about 6h SOT with 15h standby. If you are not home and use mobile data it's the worst battery life ever. It's like a Galaxy S6.
They will never fix this because the device is already +3 months old.

Today I will do the test and post , I am also interested what will be the result. My screen shot yesterday is a honest screen shot at that moment. It was more about how much Kiwi consump battery comparing to Crome and Themes (dynamic wallpapers)
@Linuxkek I didn't charge you can believe me or not. I just made that screenshot for my friend, sent him, and connected to charger(so the stats has been reset) . After that I saw this thread on forum and I pasted my result.
Like I sad you need to tweak a bit your device. I got 8h of SOT today with whole day abuse of the phone on maxed settings. 120hz 2k resolution and all ai turned on.
For me, not so far than 8h SOT with WQHD+, 120 Hz and AI activated all time for the first full charge.
Facebook app is causing random heating and battery drain.
Yesterday I had this issue and discovered that facebook app caused it. So I uninstalled it and I use Maki Plus for facebook. Great app. I must say that I got around 6h sot yesterday with this problem.
The word that describes my experience with this phone battery life is disappointment.
I am using it at FHD+ and 120Hz and I get 3,30-4 h of SOT. I does not matter if I use dark mode or not and I have already debloated the device.
I don´t think this is a hardware issue anyways so I hope it gets some kind of solution.
I will return it, really too bad. Miui is full of bugs, even with lot of compromises in my usage (dark mode, kiwi browser with night mode, black wallpaper...) Still get bad battery life.
Only 9h with 6h of SOT, whereas for a very similar usage, on my OnePlus 8T, i can get 24h with 8h of SOT.
According to Anandtech, they confirm that there is definitly something wrong about battery life, but they can't tell if it's hardware or software issue.

It's definitely this "other". I don't know what a construction is this, the weirdest thing is that you can't find any information about, I never saw it on any other phone, and it sucks your battery off. I don't use games, any social, no demanding graphic, and I can't imagine what could be possibly hidden inside. Besides it waste the battery it looks shady.
for me first charge , 5h45 SOT , debloated, 1h45 calls , 24 h standby. disapointed
i am not sure why but with my mi11 i get a much higher SOT as with my Op8 Pro
the main difference
my Op8 Pro i restored from an oldbackup
my Mi11 i completely installed new every app, every setting
also i searched a little MIUI 12 Battery saving guide, applied some of the things which did not bother me too much and voila, i end up with 7+h SOT a day incl some walks with GPS, listen podcasts via bluetooth
FHD and 120Hz settings
i am satisfied with that, my OP8 Pro which i used the same only got me like 4,5h on a good day
Do you think 230 mah for "other" is normal?
I was on the latest cn rom waiting for the bootloader unlocking. Battery life was great. Averaging 10-9 hours of intense use.
After flashing eu 21.3.11 rom, the state of battery has deteriorated quite alot. I need to charge it at least twice to last for a whole day.
Is there a possibility to downgrade the rom to the previous version as I have seen people complaining after updating, or should I just for a fix in the upcoming update?

salut,
for me battery life is very little, it's the worst battery ever for me and i had a lot of phones, i have to charge it 2 times a day, and that is with moderate usage - 3G but data connected only when needed, 30 min voice calls, 10 sms, 20 mails, 30 min facebook+ twiter, the phone gets extremely hot even during basic tasks than bothers me even more that ****ty battery life....

Thanks for sharing your opinion about the phone
Still I want more opinions about the battery life on this phone.
Probably I will buy this phone anyway just to test the quad core cpu.
I hope to notice a small diference betwen my current phone (LG-P940) and the P880.

This is totally bull****! From the owner and personal experience I can assure you that his 20-25 hours of activity makes them without any problem. Even with moderate use!
I will say the battery seems to be like all other smartphones.
I don't see a problem because I'm used to charge it once a day..

Using a fixed brightness is pointless if you want to compare across devices. What is 50% on some devices might be 70% on others.
The only way to truly compare would be to use a brightness meter on a reference image to set brightnesses the same on two devices.
It has already been said that the Optimus 4X is much brighter than most LCDs, and I'd be inclined to agree, it really helps for sunlight legibility.
Low battery life
I experience the same problem. I am a heavy user of the phone so the screen is on often.
My experience is too much comparable with my previous phone, the sony xperia x10 which has a battery issue.
My phone becomes also very hot while charging. I never experienced this with a phone so much as with this one.
I will factory reset the phone and perform a battery test. I will keep you posted.
Have you updated your phone ?
The v10b update is supposed to fix the battery and heat issues.

Thanks for your help!
I have v10b and I tested it with antutu tester in different kind of situations.
In all situations the back and front (glass) got really warm. Nice in the winter but not if it cost my battery
I have the testresults attached.

have you wiped the device before/after the update, i did booth, wiped before and after the update, will check battery live
after a few full loads, but overnight i lose around 12% with data (GSM) and wifi on (wifi on only when charging or screen on)
in 9 hours...
i think we can only get better results if we get root and custom kernels / roms .....
Yeah yeah I know its got Stamina Mode BUT! is anyone a little worried like me that the battery is 2330 and with a 5 inch screen and all those pixels its going to drain pretty fast. Todays phones with 720 screens and less pixels aren't the best. I'm still getting the phone but anyone else think we aren't in for glorious battery life here. (Stamina Mode may be the perfect fix for this though)
im hoping we get some battery reviews in soon. i have yet to see any real in depth reviews for the battery yet.

Yeah, thats the part of the reviews I will be taken proper interest in.
Coming from the One X, I'm not too worried about battery life as I'd be fairly confident it could last a bit longer than that phone. I charge my phone every night so once I get a day out of it thats fine.
I would like to see a review on the battery life though.
2330 AMH is really good though
I have 3100mah on my Galaxy Note 2 right now. Pretty huge battery - was supposed to last 3 days - it barely lasts 48 hours of "normal use". Not worried about Xperia Z, if 3100mah can't supply more than 5-6 screen time or 48+ hours - no battery will. If it lasts 2 full days, i'll be more than happy.
From what I've heard it's actually surprisingly good. Keep your brightness in check and you'll be fine. Both the Snapdragon S4 Pro and the MDM9215 are pretty efficient chips. The S4 Pro has (according to Qualcomm at least) a pretty high performance per watt so should do pretty well with relatively little power use.
From the 1st review:
"The Z’s battery-saving Stamina mode turns off data when the screen is off, boosting standby time by a factor of four, and we found it hardly lost any charge overnight – around 1 per cent, or none at all."
Now that's interesting.
Early tests not so encouraging. Worse than the nexus 4. Of course screen brightness etc aren't known at this point.
Let's hope it gets better with more charge cycles etc.

Doesn't look too good. 9 hours with 3h screen time... but the screen drained 42% of the battery so i guess it must have been under some heavy stress. Hope to see some more tests/reviews asap.
yeah, all we can do is wait for the NDA to break. I really hate waiting.
hope the battery's up to scratch because i haven't been this excited for a phone in a long time.
When do nda normally break? Seeing as it should release in some territories in a few weeks, I'm surprised there haven't been more reviews. Hoping to see some from the big sites any day now, especially the verge, gsmarena etc, as I'm really interested in battery life. Would need about 3.5 hours screen on time on mid brightness on 4g over say 15 hours off charger to work for me. Guess I could make do with 3 hours, but whichever of the new 5 inch phones does this will get my money. Come on Sony, don't disappoint me, cause I love the look of this phone!

A) reviews take time
B) It seems as though the CES units were not final... so the final product may not have been available until very recently.
Sony stores/reps are starting to get their demo units (which should be final hardware) so hopefully more reviews soon.
BTW NDA is usually to keep the details of the product hidden until Sony is ready to release. The phone has obviously been officially announced so this is not an NDA thing, just the fact that they don't want reviews done on inferior pre-release units.

And by looking at some threads here - it's perfectly understandable. People freaking out about things that are not even present in the real device like older software, lower benchmarks due to debugging firmware etc. But i'm really dying to see the battery life... if it's non-removable and it won't last 48+ hours of normal use, than it's not good. If it won't last 24+ hours of normal use than i guess i might reconsider ( and by normal use i mean texting, calling, maybe some music - not playing with it every second, that's reserved for few first days )
That screen shot over page with 9hr 33mins battery life. I didn't see the sign for power saver/battery saving mode being used. I mean surely the phone has to last a day atleast under moderate usage. I mean it has a bigger battery than the S3 and that lasted over a day on moderate usage and the cpu in the Z is supposed to be more power efficient is it not.
I also think battery life is a subjective matter for example me and my GF both had the note 2 and I set her phone up exactly how I set mine up with the brightness etc and she was getting 4days - 5days 20hours battery life and mine was getting 1day 20hours - 2days 23hours, why? because I use my phone a damn site more than she does and the variation is because some days I use more phone more than other days so some days the battery will last more and some days it will last less.

Well that's not reinventing the wheel, most battery saving apps like Juice Defender do that. However I need a stable IMAP connection and not fire up the screen constantly to check emails.
There is nothing special in making the phone last longer with software trickery, it's like making yourself last longer through thinking about your grandma.
A good battery and battery efficient hardware is needed.

Juice defender kills apps but issue with this is apps relaunch itself and then juice defender kicks in and kills it again and ends up in an infinite loop of killing and reviving of processes. The difference with stamina mode is that it was officially made by manufacturer within the ROM. So when you set it to get killed when screen is off there's something within the framework of the android core which they programmed to really halt the operation of the app/process and not just killing it. So in the end it is totally stopped

The thing with the S4 pro is that it can go both ways as far as efficient hardware is concerned. I think it has something to do with thermal insulation.
The nexus 4 and it's 2100ish mAh has notoriously poor battery times - in my testing, tapping out at just under 3 hours screen usage in around 8-10 hours of total use (everything stock + 4.2.1).
My padfone 2, on the other hand, with the same battery/screen size is a battery champ - regularly get 5 to 5.5 hours screen usage over a period of 18-20 hours. It beats out all my previous phones for battery life (minus the note 2), including the GS3 which had good battery life itself.
And no, i don't belive in disabling google now and push notifications. Without them the nexus 4 does better but the padfone 2 and its s4 pro do brilliant with them on.

No argument here - although if it actually does work - then it's a welcome trick. Juice Defender - imo - is useless. It never saved any battery for me - quite the contrary, constant app killing in the background resulted in worse battery life on my Galaxy S/Note devices, so i'm curious how will Sony implement such a feature.

Why would you guys use JD for killing apps? That doesn't make sense. Its main use is to manage radios etc. depending on battery & screen status. Anyway didn't do much for me so switched from that to Tasker.

It did well on gsmarena battery test:

For me phones that have 80h+ on gsmarena battery test are 5-6hours sot phones with the heaviest of usage and with moderate usage they can last couple of days so battery wise everything seems good.
Here’s new review that also mentions sot and shows battery usage. I am sold thats its ok in terms of battery. Dude has 6hours of sot on heavy usage.

Greatest battery life ever
One hour and 30 minutes sot before it got to 90% then slowly to this lever. This is almost all 4g, bluetooth on all the time andI toggle gps as I need it, which wasn't much at all today. No games today either which I hardly play. On mate 9 I'd have 20% work plus 7 hours sot. Withth this I got over 40%
I have the cat 18 high speed setting on too, maybe I'll get more battery disabling this setting. Sitting at 40% left after 7hrs 35 mins sot, Not bad
Really want to see how the mate 10 stacks against mate 10 pro battery life wise

Really want to see how the mate 10 stacks against mate 10 pro battery life wise

This is the second day of using the phone. I would say I am a heavy user. My result is below. It's good but I was expecting more as Huawei says the 970 is more efficient than the 960.
After 20 hours since full charge this is very good battery life! On course to get over 11 hours sot over such a long period of time.
Hour sot, only used 5% battery
loving the battery
Can you guys put above the screenshot which version of Mate are you using? Thanks

Coming from a Mate 9. You have to give it time to adjust to you to get optimal results. Anyone posting the first week battery results, it's nearly the same as an ordinary phone. Still a good base to go on. The ai still needs time for pattern adjustment to unlock it's true potential.
I've been trying a few custom ROMs (ArrowOS and Ricedroid) and a few custom kernels (Vantom and Sleepy) and I've noticed that the battery life is just worse. I went from an active drain of 10%/hr and an idle drain of 0.5%/hr (on debloated MIUI) to an active drain of around 12-15%/hr and an idle drain of 0.8-1.0%/hr (on Ricedroid+Sleepy, best one so far in my experience), which is an obvious increment in comparison.
I've also seen a huge number of people complaining about terrible drain on basically every custom ROM I've seen on here.
It's confusing because performance also seems to take a hit, so it's an overall worse experience, outside of the additional functionality which is often pretty great (both ArrowOS and Ricedroid look amazing).
So why is the battery life so much better on MIUI compared to these almost (?)-AOSP custom ROMs? What can I do to further increase battery life AND performance?

Because MIUI has too aggressive battery management which result in apps not working as it should (i.e notification not coming). One of the reasons I use custom rom.

I´d suggest that you apply GMS Doze magisk module, Naptime app (from Francisco Franco, which also includes a magisk module) and also apply restrictions on battery usage of most Google stuff.
That really makes a difference.
I haven´t tried it yet on the RN10PRO (as my bootloader only unlocks this Sunday), but on Poco F2 Pro, while using Ricedroid and Immensity Kernel - these dozing/restriction tricks made active drain stay around 8%/hr (vs 12.5%/hr previously) and idle drain to go down to 0.4%/hr (vs 1.1%/hr previously).
Good luck

Yo thank you for the tips, I'm definitely gonna try your strategy and I'm excited to see if it works for me too! Can I ask you what kind of apps you restricted? It would be great Also did you restrict GMS or did you just put it on "optimised"?
It hasn't been my experience with Arrow 12.1 vs MIUI 13, not a like for like comparison though to be fair.
MIUI was constantly chirping away to Xiaomi and Google, and my locked down vanilla Arrow install barely does anything while idle so the battery life is pretty impressive.
I charged it to 100% yesterday, since then I've watched some stuff on youtube, listened to an audiobook, made a few calls, messed around with wallpapers etc...and it's at 70%.
Can't really say much in terms of gaming performance since dropping the play store has cut off the games I'd usually install. General usage is at least as snappy as MIUI was, probably faster since I have 1/4 of the stuff installed.

Yeah, my stock MIUI was terrible both performance-wise and battery-wise, but after debloating it (by disabling basically every Xiaomi service / app) my phone was flying with amazing battery.
I'm guessing that you've flashed the vanilla / degoogled ROM, right? This sounds like a good idea. I flashed the gapps version and my experience was not nice, and just restricting Google Services' battery usage made my phone go 0.1%/hr overnight which is insane.
Though, active drain remains insanely high around 15%/hr... Can't find out why

Vanilla ArrowOS 12.1, no gapps or anything like that and I'm not rooted if makes a difference.
I use F-droid for most things and a few I grabbed from the official GIT repos like brave-browser, yubikey stuff and session, netguard is blocking everything I don't actively use.
Also I'm using Nova launcher instead of Quickstep, I haven't tested to see if that makes a change to the battery life.
If you're after all the fancy extras then that won't work for you, it's slick and I like the feel of the phone but definitely feels minimal.

Same. My phone charges in ~20 minutes and lasts several days without charging. With more screentime, thats obviously reduced but ive never had a phone/rom combo that lasts as long as this one. I hate MIUI for their agressive battery management which brings more bugs and less batterylife. And its so good that even though i want to upgrade to the next android version, im going to stay right where i am because it seems like no rom can keep up with this.

Hmm that's interesting. I don't rely on much Google stuff (except GPay and Maps which are very hard to replace), so this actually sounds appealing to me. Can I ask you to send a screenshot of Accubattery / BatteryGuru if possible? I have had horrible luck with battery life so far it seems

I think GPay needs extra stuff that I don't have but I don't use it so not 100% on that and I use Organicmaps but not like a car GPS so no idea if it's capable of that.
I installed Accubattery yesterday with the phone at ~97%, pretty light usage and fell asleep with a video streaming on the phone since then.
For fair disclosure I'm not entirely sure how accurate the battery measurements are since my phone says there's still nearly 1.5h of charge time left when it hits full charge.

No problem, I run it on 60hz since I don't game or do any video stuff.
There are options for 60Hz-60Hz/60Hz-120Hz/120Hz-120Hz, I can select them but with my usage I don't notice any visible difference and leave it on 60.
No lag that I can notice apart from data lag (loading a site like twitch takes a second or 2 for all the thumbnails to load, the browser itself opens instantly).
I've had 1 hiccup in the month or so I've used the ROM, for some reason the fingerprint unlock didn't work 1 time and I had to restart the phone.
I just restarted to test it and from hitting restart it only takes 17 seconds to reboot back to the lock screen so no major hassle.
The other problems are ones I make for myself by using a non Gapps vanilla ROM, so limited customization, can't install a fancy camera app, certain apps won't install without rooting etc...(non issues for me personally).
How is your battery life on S23? How much screen time do you get and what is your usage scenario? Proofs with screenshots would be great.

I don't have one either. I just consider S23 for buying since it perfectly matches my wishes among all new android flagships. Only battery life makes me worry as S22 had a bad one and was harshly criticised for this. That's why I'd like real owners to share their experience with battery life on the device.

Do not worry about battery life. I have S23 since February 6, 2023
I sold the S22 precisely because of the battery life, but I loved the size of the S22. I've been using the Pixel7 until now, and now I love the S23!

Out of the box the device was charged to 67% yesterday and it gave me 5:15 of screen on time when I placed it on wireless charger it had 5% left. But this is not accurate at all. After 7 full charges from less then 15% the battery usage will be more clear. But as of now it indicates that the sot will be really good for what I am used to (OP7T I used before had arround 5 hours). I use 2 sims, bluetooth, wifi, gps, aod and nfc were on all the time. I run some benchmarks (antutu, 3d mark, geekbench 5), watched some videos (at least 1 hour) and played some games (asphalt 9 for 15 minutes, Golf clash for 30 minutes), plus plenty of scrolling and downloading apps.
And it's just mathematics. S23 has bigger battery size and better cpu chip efficiency. Logical the autonomy would be better than S22 (except if the cpu eats more and new oneui&android 13 too)

True. It's just you never know how it behaves in day to day usage. Don't wanna charge flagship for 800-1000 dollars twice a day.
BTW I'm wondering if it would be good to activate the max 85% charge or not.

How long do you plan to keep the device? It's a proven fact that limiting the charge percentage dramatically increases charge cycles but if you're only going to keep it for a year or two, not much point.

Battery university is the best one.
Here's a short UMich article - https://news.umich.edu/tips-for-ext...ze the amount of time, soon as it reaches 100%.
and here is a battery manufacturer (tip 3) https://www.saftbatteries.com/energizing-iot/lithium-ion-batteries-use-5-more-tips-longer-lifespan
Quickly summarized, fast charge is bad, avoid it (then Google Pixels are right to be slow charging) and don't let 100%. But I thought smartphones were now managing the 100% issue well hmm

Not as bad as going towards to 0% or 100%. I was pretty surprised when phones came up with it but fast charging seems to work, sort of - there was no deluge of broken batteries, was there?
Funny, according to this I better charge my phone in some oven/incubator

Not a matter of breaking the battery but fast charge causes heating causes destruction of battery cells causes reduce of long lasting battery
I'm wondering how the 120W charging phones will hold ^^

This is great!
6:14h sot, 24%, with everything activated and double sim. (but with the basic battery mode you can find in options. Apparently this mode improves greatly the autonomy and doesn't change a lot the power).
6h 35m here, great device, my last two phones were a oneplus 7t (which had a great battery) and a pixel 6(good battery.... slow charging), this feels quite on par , at a much lower size.
While some tests show huge sot, if find the test from phonearena to be the most reliable for this device.
I have 2 sims with volte and vowifi always enabled.
SoT can change a lot between someone who uses the phone during the day or during the evening/night, by the way)
Some first stats and observations from mine S23:
1) my usage
- mostly dimmed display - approx. 30% brightness with peaks up to 70% (rarely)
- LTE+ (one SIM, 5G disabled) mixed with WiFi (LTE - only 2-3 bars most of the time, WIFI with good reception but low quality internet)
- mostly urban area
- 60 HZ display (tried with adaptive as well - no huge difference), dark theme, AOD only for new notifications, black wallpaper
- location, NFC and bluetooth disabled if not in use
- lite battery mode with adaptive options (no power savings enabled)
- bluetooth Samsung Earbuds - 2-3 hrs / day - music and YouTube
- Bixby software disabled, no Google App or Google Assistant
- two google accounts in sync
- Spark instead of Gmail
- Kiwi Browser instead of Chrome
Apps:
- YouTube
- FB Messenger
- Kiwi Browser
- 10 pics a day
- Instagram
- Emails and office stuff
- Google Maps and little car navigation
- lots of UI customisation and tweaking
I would describe myself as a casual, lite user
Observations:
- high brightness drains the battery like crazy
- lots of Samsung apps require "nearby devices" and "location" access
- standby drain is OK - would say 1%/hr during the day and 4% per 7hrs night (Do not disturb mode). AOD doubles those figures.
- charging is slow as fk
Scanarios available (non scientific :
- approx. 7-8 hrs SOT with 1,5 day endurance
- approx. 10-12 hrs SOT with almost no extra standby time (15 hrs total endurance)
- approx. 5-6 hrs SOT with 2 days endurance
Next stats will try to post with AccuBattery screenshots.
