Question Snapdragon SM-G9980 (China) in Europe - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Hi good people!
Did anyone had experience with the Chinese Snapdragon variant in Europe?
Are there any features lacking in comparison to the Exynos variant?
What will not work?

hello,
just got my china one, g9980zhu2aubb.
samsung phone don't have antispam (hiya) option, and samsung pay don't work
still in test.
maybe someone knows if we could flash it with eu firmware?

Isn't Hiya 3rd party app? It cannot be installed?

yep it can, but samsung smart call (missing in mine) had it free.
instead you'll have to buy hiya or try google dialer. (i dont like his giant favorite bubbles)
maybe someone could share a tips to get samsung phone with hiya for chinese phone.

Why is Samsung Pay not working - I asked UK Samsung Customer service and they said it should work since it is a service enabled in China
"I won't be able to confirm these issues as you are the first one to have mentioned this to me. As far as I know, Samsung Pay is supported on this following countries: US, UK, Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. You can consider where the device was manufactured for you to be able to use Samsung pay."

I think it's dependent on your regions csc.

I live in Shanghai and bought a china version of the ultra, it doesn't have hiya, rather it uses a local tencent or baidu equivalent to control the spam calls. The samsung browser also doesn't let you select a default english search engine like bing or google, you can only set chinese ones. I got fed up with it and flashed the Hong Kong firmware, and the hong kong version fixes these issues, including having hiya.
Edit: And another thought, the chinese firmware uses bixby home on the left screen, so no samsung free or google discover. The hong kong firmware has these so another reason why I decided to flash (but now the discover feed has stopped showing anything and i can't figure it out....)

Seems like it's not worth experimenting with China's Snap

So which version did buy?
I'm also thinking of getting the HK but afraid I will lose volte or 5g among other stuff.
Wdyt?

I didn't buy it yet - I can still get Snap version from a reseller for less money than Exynos - which was unthinkable with S20 and Note 20 series last year

seems getting the HK version is bit risky no>?

Oh wow. I didn't even realize that those countries listed above all have NFC Local/Mobile Pay terminals. That's specifically what's needed with the S21 series as Samsung has removed their MST Pay functionality... =(. So now it's basically Google Pay with less features...

It is not just risky, it is straightforwardly missing important features
If I meter Snap positives like better gaming and photo experience against all that is lacking.... meh, not worth it

Have you managed to test it more thoroughly?
Reported issues so far on this and other threads:
1. VoLTE doesn't work
2. Samsung pay - Chinese version - works on HK one (yours)
3. antispam blocker not working
4. default search engine can't be set to Google
5. left home screen can't be set to Google Discover
What are your experiences with these features?

Hi I have g9980 also HK Variant.
1. VoLTTE works
2. Not sure, Samsung pay is not supported in our country.
3.. Anti Spam works.
4. Google is the default search engine. No need to change.
5. Google discover & samsung free is there and it works.

Just to clarify what i wrote previously, the mainland china version cannot set the search engine to google, nor is samsung free or google discover available on the left screen(it's bixby home), and the anti-spam is china only.
However, once you flash the mainland china version with the hong kong TGY firmware, you can choose any of the english search engines you prefer, google discover and samsung free will be available on the left screen and the anti-spam will use hiya, not the china only spam crap.
So if you don't like messing around and flashing firmwares, I suggest buying the Hong Kong version of the phone. If you can get a good deal on a china version, you can get that and flash the Hong Kong firmware and no problem.
If you buy the China mainland version and do not flash the TGY firmware, i would very much not recommend buying it.
In my case so far, i think the phone is fantastic and worth every penny.

Note 5 N9208 vs N9200?

I am trying to figure out whats the difference between them , I understand one is made for china and one is for taiwan. But I wanted to know which is better, which has more bands that it supports, which would get updates faster and which could possibly run custom roms.
Thank You

I don't have any of the above models but you can take a look here if you want to see the differences : http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=8683&id2=8796
n9200 is sold in mainland china, hongkong and macao, it has two software versions, one for mainland china, one for hongkong/macao.
the one for mainland china has google framework removed, with some more chinese native apps added.
the one for hongkong has google framwork and google apps, and is good for international usage.
the two software versions share the same hardware, and can be flashed on the same phone without losing warranty.
n9208 is the southeast asia version, it's sold in taiwan, malaysia, etc.
n9200 has a little more bands than n9208, where all the bands in n9208 is included in n9200.
I would recommend you to buy the n9200 if you are choosing between the two, and if you got the mainland china version, you can flash the hongkong firmware.
btw, I got a n9200 for 4000RMB on taobao just a month ago, good and cheap.
edit: if you buy a n9200 hongkong version, you get warranty in hongkong, macao and mainland china,
if you buy a n9200 mainland chinese version, you only get warranty in mainland china.
n9208 would give you warranty in the country you brought
none have international warranty.
I got N9200 (HK version) in Japan and it's working great. :good:

SM-N9600 sold on amazon.co.uk

Hi,
I received dual sim version of NOte9. It is unfortunately SM-N9600 verision, which I can see is LATM region. It came with uk charging brick though. ANy chances to chave the region changed (snapdragon) obviosly, preferably to European?
That is not possible as the N9600 is designed for the Asian market. That said it should work perfectly in the UK as it is a GSM device. However you won't be able to use Samsung Pay
It was sold on amazon.co.uk described as International version. And the phone was equipped with 3 pin UK charger, which I believe was a false advertising and re-boxed. I contacted the seller, but I will also file a claim on Amazon. Disappointing. I am getting Chinese notifications from time to time, that's why I wanted to flash English language based Rome, in terns of region. Not possible than?
That's seem strange, I ordered and received the N9600 version (particularly dual sim blue 8/512).
I live in Europe, where the official is exynos version.
My phone works flawlessly, no Chinese notifications, during initial setup I had all language choices.
Only some particular services provided by my local GSM services are not supported (like wifi calling or volte)

Yes, but 9600 is not an international version, is it?

Well hong Kong and latin America so sort of international.
If your getting Chinese stuff on there even though you said yours is latin it must be running chinese firmware. Id suggest flashing latin america firmware to try and get rid of that annoyance.
Use fw.updato.com and get a Latam version of the firmware to flash in Odin. That'll get rid of Smart Manager and the other Chinese crap.

I had what I assume was a Chinese notification on my phone the other day, in one of the Samsung apps. My phone is an International N960F/DS supplied directly from Samsung UK and running 2 UK SIMs so it may not be firmware dependant...
He has a n9600 not 960f....that phone can comes from HK or latin america.
In his case yes it can be firmware.

It was a misconfiguration, I suspect, where the Galaxy app had announcement in Korean about some offers for the users in South Korea. That has now disappeared.

hey there, just wondering, did you buy that version for root?
also, do you have any issues with speeds /carrier aggregation?
I bought this version for gpu performance.
LTE and overall data speed and band aggregations works flawlessly. No issues at all.
Exynos was not capable in gaming and everyday smoothness and speed in every day scenario

Samsung Pay and imported Note9

Hello.
I bought my note 9 more thna 1 year ago via ebay and it is a Sinagapour version knowing that I m living in France. It is a N960F dual sim.
Didn't bother till now but I realised that Samsung Pay will not work because it is an Asian version and unusable here in France. Is there smth that I might do ( like changing CSC or flashing a french ROM with Odin....) to make it work? Of course it is not rooted. Thanks. And by the way I cannot use Google pay either. Not for paying by NFC. Don't know why.

Have you found a way to get the Samsung Pay to work???
Hi,
you can change CSC following this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/how-to/guide-change-note-9-csc-easy-guide-t3879473
Samsung Pay will work after this operations.
Happy holidays, bye

Question Regarding CSC change on S21 Ultra [G9980] in India

Hi everyone!
I recently found that Amazon India is now selling the Snapdragon 888 variant of the S21 Ultra, planning to buy the same but I wanted to inqure here first if anyone has the snapdragon variant and has tried to change their CSC to INS? Also if all the services like VoLTE, WiFi calling work with the same or not?

There are only 3 CSC's which can be enabled on the SM-G9980. CHC China, BRI Taiwan and TGY Hong Kong. If the device you referenced has it's Primary CSC as CHC China some content and certain apps are restricted. The TGY Hong Kong Primary CSC is best suited for international users. It isn't a Multi-CSC Device so any changes require flashing different firmware. The post you highlighted is misleading, it states Tmobile is the carrier but Tmobile doesn't sell a Branded SM-G9980. I have the same device in the US and have VoLTE, Wi-Fi Calling and timely Updates. In India YMMV. If Call Features and 5G are a priority your Service Provider's device is the best option.
Thanks for your reply!
You mentioned that you have the same model, which CSC are you on?
Yes, the Amazon Page says tmobile but it is an unlocked device that the seller is selling. In India we only get the exynos variant and this is the only Snapdragon variant that is available to us. The reviews say that Indian carriers are working fine my main concern is CSC related features like in-built call recording, does your device have that? I have it on my Note 20 (CSC = INS).
Also I'm curious when you say that it only supports those 3 CSC, does that mean it won't even change to INS if I tried? OR does it change but bricks the device or some other limitation happens (like Knox tripping)?
I'm on the TGY Hong Kong CSC, I wouldn't consider the CHC or BRI variants. Some users have reported the TGY and BRI have identical software but I'm not sure that's correct. The SM-G9980 TGY CSC is available on ebay or online from a number of retailers in Hong Kong, I purchased mine online from Hong Kong since most on ebay don't offer the 512GB option. The device doesn't offer native call recording however a number of apps can enable this function. At this time it's impossible to flash any Exynos Global Firmware on any Snapdragon variants and that's not likely to change going forward. You can't make a general rule that this or that feature will work in India, all service providers aren't using identical metrics. If your concern is maximizing call features acquiring your service provider's device is the best bet.

yes but at least you are getting a bill and a sale receipt to ship it back and get it repaired under warranty. sure its a long shot, but i bet itll still be cheaper than buying a new s21 ultra
Did you ever get it to move to a different country firmware?
I have the same device, and the lack of timely updates and the control of carriers of what get released and what not is scare to say the least.. especially when u are holding a hongkong/china variant..
Let us know if u figured any way out or experimented with it..

My advice. Get your local version. Exynos this year wasn't bad. I got this 9980 for 16/512gb SD and am desperate to get other regions updates but so far haven't found a satisfactory way to do that. Either you figure that out or get the local version. That way your local carriers will be in charge not other country's.

Samsung has paused Android 12 Updates on the SM-G9980 at least until sometime this month. So far they’ve released 3 updates of Android 12 for the S21 and it still isn't stable. I'm not in any rush to receive A12, will wait a few weeks after it's available and see if they've finally fixed all the bugs. It's not so much Samsung's fault, blame Google, it causing problems on many different brands.

Question Please help me

Is there a way to flash the Samsung S21 Ultra copy SM-G99U1 On my S21 Ultra SM-G9980
No, only three firmware's can be flashed on the SM-G9980. TGY - Hong Kong, BRI - Taiwan and CHC - China. Of the three Hong Kong is the better option.

You're most welcome! Have you taken note that many recent posts on XDA revolve around issues after updating to Android 12, One UI 4.0? The update has yet to be released for the SM-G9980 and I won't consider updating when it becomes available. Until it's stable, whenever that may happen, it's not worth the risk. Not sure what region you reside, I'm in the US on T-mobile and the TGY Variant is compatible for most Service Provider Features. The only features lacking are Carrier Aggregation and 5G, not a big deal for me.
