Pixel 4a 5G - Carrier Unlock - Google Pixel 4a 5G Questions & Answers

Hello,
Any idea how to carrier unlock the phone, besides calling the carrier? It is a work phone but I like to use my own SIM when traveling.
Pixel 4a 5G
Android 11
Build Number: RQ2A.210305.006
Carrier: ATT
I tried one of those "unlock" your phone service but was told that firmware cannot be unlocked.
It also seems to have an eSIM option but only if unlock and would be great to have two numbers on it.

network change firmware

So running the latest software it seems no need to flash firmware for carriers when you place an actual carrier sim in the splash screen and everything automatically switches to sim...I have a note 8 and a note 9 one cricket one metro since note 9 has band 71 I wanted to try metro in it and utilize that but ofcourse finding out metro locks service to imei unlike cricket does where any phone unlocked will work..but although I couldn't use my metro on my note 9 it did change splash screen and showed the wifi calling which I cant use wifi calling but i am able to hotspot again so that's the bonus for everyone on cricket needing hotspot again try popping in a tmobile or metro sim it holds even after restarting...correct me if I'm wrong on the firmware automatically switching cause the note 9 is a verizon bought phone and had been showing verizon splash screen....diagnose further when I buy new sim to tie note 9 to metro since they apparently pair sim and imei...

It's kind of new to me but I guess the take away for anyone is I've lost my hotspot capability on cricket when I switched to note 9 from note 8 cause changing the apn didn't work with new software like I did with note 8....and now i have regained that on note 9 which was bought through verizon also I'm able to utilize dialer codes again where I lost that too...so if your on cricket or something like that and lost those abilities then just pop in a metro or tmobile sim and restart phone then put your cricket sim back in and your good to go with hotspot and dialer codes again....I just wish cricket didn't whitelist phones capable of using volte where I could get that on my note 9 cause 3g calling has definitely went downhill with low to no coverage anymore on it...my real question is this everyone is talking about flashing the carrier csc to whatever carrier you going to so you have the best and all their perks just seems with latest updates there's no need for it like my note 9 has band 71 but while on verizon I'm sure they disable that band because it's not needed so it seems when you swap sims and forced to restart because new sim is detected and you put a tmobile sim in it automatically turns correct radio bands on for its network...correct or not because I want tmobile just need to know band 71 will be activated when I put a tmobile sim in this verizon bought note 9 and I'll be able to utilize their full network spectrum...cause metro by tmobile apparently only utilises band 2 and band 12 which cuts my coverage...sorry for the long read

PSA: Unlocked Pixel 5 compatibility on Verizon - good news

Yes, you can unlock the bootloader but you do have to do the same trick to unlock the bootloaders on the OG Pixels by blowing through the setup and not inserting your until after the bootloader is unlocked.
Yes, carrier services work, not sure about video calling, but I am sure it will come on in time. VoLTE/Vo5G ( the tech that allows for you to use the internet while on a call) and WiFi calling does work; My Best Buy rep said carrier services would not work, but here we are.
Yes, 5G does still work.
I couldn't find a straight answer for those questions; so here we are.
How I found out:
After my beloved Pixel 3a XL started to give up the ghost, I began my search for a new phone. I wanted it to work on 5G and be able to unlock the bootloader. Verizon as my carrier (it's paid for) and as I did some more research, I found out that only Verizon created phones would work with their 5G network; ultra wide band. I know they love to lock down their phones from consumers in the name of security, so it seemed like every device I looked at either had an non-unlockable bootloader or it would not work on Verizon's 5G. However, after attempting to order a 4a 5G, I accidentally clicked on the Pixel 5 listing and then I noticed in the print of the carrier selection, it doesn't state that the Pixel 5 unlocked won't work with Verizon's 5G, unlike the unlocked Pixel 4a's note saying it will not work on Verizon 5G. So I bit a bullet and spent $726 at Best Buy to test a theory. After picking up the phone, I blew through the setup, not putting in my sim nor entering in any google account info and went straight into enabling OEM unlocking. I did have to connect to WiFi and then reboot. After the reboot and a few minutes, I was able to turn the OEM unlocking switch to on. I unlocked the boot loader and was able to proceed to setting up the phone normally. After setting up the phone, I drove over to a part of town that I knew had 5G, and low and behold, everything worked. Even VoLTE (or Vo5G now?) and WiFi calling works. I am unsure about video carrier calling however, I know that can take some time to pop up. I believe this is the only 5G compatible phone on Verizon that can unlock the bootloader at this time, however, this price tag is not worth it for me. I am going to wait until 5G is more wide spread, then I will consider upgrading.
Every single Pixel 5 sold in the US will connect to Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband. When you say unlocked do you mean bootloader unlocked or carrier unlocked? If you bought a Verizon or carrier locked P5 at BB then no matter what you do you cannot bootloader unlock. So you probably got an unlocked device (as per the price you paid) and you can both bl unlock and connect to any network. There was no need to so the wifi thing you did because you could always bl unlock a carrier unlocked device.
Of course the 4a will not work with 5G. It's not a 5G compatible phone. Once again, any 5G Pixel phone sold in the US, the P5 or the P4a 5G, will connect to UW Band Verizon network if you use them as your carrier.
Can I use both T-Mobile and verizon 5G at the same time , as I presently do on my Iphone on an unlocked pixel 5

Will flashing pixel 4 XL with AT&T build carrier lock device?

I have an unlocked pixel 4 XL that was purchased directly from Google. I would like to have Wi-Fi calling on AT&T but was told they only enabled it on AT&T branded phones. Would flashing my pixel 4 XL with an AT&T build carrier lock my device?
I also have a pixel 3 XL and have the same question.
Thanks in advance anyone who can answer.
@bmurf
What they told you is not true. I have always had WiFi calling working on ATT using Google Store phones forever. If you are currently using AT&T as your carrier, you use the "Global" image or AT&T only if one is available, and NO it definitely will not carrier lock your phone. If you are on the November 12.0.0 (SP1A.211105.002, Nov 2021) it will work if your SIM is provisioned for it. If you cannot get Wifi calling working, check phone settings to see if your SIM is provisioned for it. In the dialer type *#*#4636#*#* under phone settings check that the toggle for WI-Fi calling is on. If it is on, that means your SIM is provisioned for it and it will work. If it is off and you cannot toggle it on, your SIM has to be provisioned for it by AT&T. . My family has 4 Pixels and they all have Wi-Fi calling working for years. Starting back with the Nexus phones, but PIxel 2,3,4 all work. You can go to AT&T and request they provision your SIM for free. Don't leave the store until both your phones are working. If you have a really old SIM it may need to be replaced (free also). Disclaimer: I have had a post-paid account for a long time. If you are on a pre-paid plan or AT&T MVNO, your results may be different.

Question Rogers Canada WiFi Calling Not Working on Redmi Note 10 Pro Global

Can't make wifi calling work on rogers canada using Redmi Note 10 Pro Global Version. Was talking to Rogers tech support, to their credit they tried to activate this on my new Redmi Note 10 Pro Global (Tier 2 tech support), adding imei nr to whitelist, and entering RWC codes but to no avail.
I used these codes to bring up the options in the phone, and "activated" them (volte, wifi calling, prefer wifi calls).
VoLTE *#*#86583#*#*
VoWIFI *#*#869434#*#*
Rogers Tech prompted me to enter code: *#243203855# which is supposed to switch phone to RWC, but the MMI fails. At this point tech support ends, nothing else can be done (they say only phones purchased through Rogers are supported, plus all iphones, google, and samsungs).
So, I am wondering, is there a workaround that Rogers doesn't tell?

Unlock Pixel 5g problems...?

I own a Verizon Pixel 5g that I bought and having unlock issues. I checked the IMEI with multiple sources and IMEI shows as unlocked. This both for the sim & carrier. I went to Verizon & Tmobile store and both told me the phone was unlocked. Tried unlocking the phone with the EID #. Also tried activating phone with ESIM. When I tried using the QR code only the Verizon option was showing. The Tmobile support told me that the phone should be allowing to choose Tmobile. They said this indicates the phone still has a carrier lock. Is there a way to verify this or unlock the phone.
