I am interested in this phone. I know it can take 64 MP JPGs with the stock camera app and also some GCam ports. But what about 64 MP RAW photos, can they be taken either in stock camera app or GCam? And if so, can anybody share some samples?

Yes, stock does take these images.
I could take samples later.

Please do, that would be much appreciated. Outdoors in daylight with some vegetation would be the most interesting, but anything will do.
I presume GCam then can only do JPGs, but not DNG in 64 MP?
Weather sucks atm so I did not go out and it is pretty dark in right now. If it is not getting better today, I'll try to take the pictures inside with a lot of light

Thanks a lot. I would say noise looks surprisingly good here. Huawei P40 Pro seems much noisier after you transform RYYB to RGGB, and that is with much larger individual pixels. And the ZF8 has OIS, so exposure longer than 1/50 s with lower ISO should still be possible for static scenes...
Yes, it was okay for handheld, although I thought it went up at above iso 400.
For a handheld camera it was very good and it looked very natural

Just one example zoomed in. This was at night. Much more dnr dynamic range with lightroom cam.
Even more pronounced in daylight though. But test it for yourelf. The image file is 40mb un edited. Any serious photographer on any phone should use the lightroom cam from now on.

These are max zoom ins. And not even in any hard hdr scenario. In a scenario where hdr is needed the lightroom camera is even more overpowered.
Looks impressive. Cheers.

Now there would be nice to compair the pixel2 and the note8 with both cams using lightroom hdr camera to really se what phone takes the best pics.

No. Does it require root? Wher can one get it? Id like to compaire it.

Yeah but no raw format for the hdr image using hdr function. Lightroom does hdr out of raw files whereas im thinking lr cam is better. But ofc we need to test.
I just tested lowlight.
1. Lightroom preserves more detail and more dnr
2. Opencamera hdr is more compressed ie less detail but less noise. (You could still do manual nrd on lr)
3. No majour differences but a minor plus for the LR cam. LR cam is also quicker.
summary. Lightroom is best. Its quick and gives a bit better quality due to rawfiles in its hdr compaired to opencamera.
Example. Lr on the right. Quite alot more detail zoomed in very much. Opencamera gets very muddy and there is no way you can see each tile on the house.

The DNG raw file has some good detail for a phone.
The photo was shot at ISO 89 so it's expected to have very low noise.
This is the jpg file developed with Capture One Pro: https://gofile.io/?c=l4IuRB
Good detail even at 100% zoom, quite good for a phone.
Would you be able to share more DNG raw files, this time shot at higher ISO levels so we can get a good idea of the sensor performance and noise at lower light levels ?
Thanks :good:

Thank you for the DNG samples.
The file size is quite small for DNG raw, only around 10 Mb.
The Mi9 DNG raw files are over 22Mb.
Maybe with a different Gcam app the DNG files will have more data?

Upper one is gcam, lower one is open camera, both raws edited with same preset in Lightroom. Since the google raws still use merging, they get all the benefit as jpeg... I recommend using hdr+ enhanced with 8 frames, but it can make merging mistakes; something like merging a carpet with table, it looks weird, so when that happens, just use plain hdr+ - which has a bit worse noise, but makes less mistakes, also I recommend at least 80 sharpen and 40 saturation, and lowering highlights by 100...

I am currently using the one by BSG v8.1

One question guys! Does anyone notice the extreme lag when using the camera indoors? Not even with low light but "normal"... It makes almost impossible to take a picture without being blurred, since it also takes a few seconds to shoot.

Yes, I agree with that. This happens with the Stock Camera app
Hence I use Gcam, Which works perfectly in this case. There is no lag in Gcam

I'm also looking for a setting for it but no luck so far, I'm stressed that the image on the screen looks good but when you take the picture it looks a bit more blurry. As if it were being Post-Processed. I want me to take the photo as it is taken by the sensor but unfortunately even in RAW the photo is retouched.

Yes, and unfortunately the image looks just as processed. The strangest thing is that when capturing the image with HDR it should be seen with its respective dynamic range, but to my surprise the Normal/HDR+/HDR+ Enhanced photos look exactly the same. To take photos with HDR I had to resort to apps like Open Camera. So I use 3 camera apps on my phone.
The Stock App for videos, GCam for photos and Open Camera for HDR/DRO or photos with custom Bracketing

Same as other GCam, it does not take HDR photos but takes clearer photos. The dark ones stay darker while the costs shine a lot. I'm taking the photos in RAW with HDR in Adobe Lightroom

I don't think they are oversharpened because sharpness was set by default. They are taken with AGC 8.4.300. And upscaling indeed improves clarity and detail a little bit.

Upscale does not improve picture quality. It just let's you zoom further.
Only thing you get is too big images and file size.

If you want a sharper pics you can play with sharpness and sabre. And don't forget to enable upscaling to 1.6x-2x. It increases the file size but detail a bit too.
