Question AsopExtended v9.x for Zenfone 8 discontinued? - ASUS ZenFone 8

Hi
does anybody know if there will be a new version of AsopExtended v9.x without GAPPS for the Zenfone 8?
There's no info about that on the website for AsopExtended, the forums or the Telegam Channel (or at least I did not found it)
I do not want to know an excat date for the release -- just a general info about the maintenance status of this ROM.
IMHO the documentation and communication with the developer is one of the disadvantages for this ROM (but the ROM itself is exactly what I need ...)
regards
Bernd

The rom is still under development, actually, a few days ago, a new version was released on the telegram group with a fix for the battery drain issue!

I know -- but only the image with GAPPS -- there is no update for the version without GAPPS since the 1st 2nd release.
And one of the reasons why I use AospExtended since a long time now (first on my ZUK Pro and now on my Zenfone 8) is that there always was a version without pre-installed GAPPS and with enabled signature spoofing so that I can use MicroG
Unfortunately there is no reliable method to remove GAPPS from a ROM image as far as I know.

Need Custom ROM suggestions and Instructions for Xiaomi Mi 5

I recently received a Xiaomi Mi 5 device and am unhappy with the stock MIUI (7.2.8.0 Global Stable) functionality.
My previous phone was a Moto E (1st Gen) and several years ago, I had flashed a custom ROM by @TheStrix [from this thread].
What an amazing ROM that was. It provided an optimized version of the stock ROM that fully supported the hardware and provided a great base on which to add required Apps. I used it happily for years and my son still uses it.
I am looking for a Custom ROM for the Xiaomi Mi 5 that meets the following criteria:
1. Must be stable and supported
2. Must support all device hardware fully without losing functionality (example: IR blaster, NFC, fingerprint, 4-Axis OIS, VoLTE, ...)
3. Provide as close an experience to the standard Android OS it is based on as possible (example retain the great integration of the "OK Google" functionality)
4. As few Apps pre-installed as possible without compromising (2) and (3) above. But must include Google Play Store for a smooth way to install whatever apps (Google or otherwise) are needed later.
4. Clear instructions to install the ROM starting with a stock Mi5 device, using a Linux laptop. I am in to the "open source" movement and don't own a Windows device.
I have already spent a lot of time transferring 15 GB of my data to the device, so a way to update the new ROM without losing the data is desirable, but not a must-have.
Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions. Apologies if this thread turns out to be a duplicate.
Further information from a response I received on the MIUI forum.
My ROM version says MIUI Global 7.2.8.0.0 (MAACNDB) Stable. However official ROMs don't have "CN" in the version for Global Stable ROMs. So looks like my device came with an Unofficial ROM.
Xiaomi may only provide a windows-based unlocking tool. I do not know whether it may work correctly with Wine. Qcom 9008 mode may not work but you can still flash via fastboot, and unlocking bootloader is required.
MIUI is stable and all function should work normally but it is not a AOSP-like one. Lineageos 14.1 is stable but not all functions work - QC 3.0 seldom works, touch button does not work well enough on LGD panel. I do not know how to test OIS, but it is said to work.

In your situation, the fake rom situation, you have to first unlock the bootloader and then flash a real/official miUI rom and from there ... go where you want.
remember: DO A BACKUP if you need your personal data; because this operation, done right, will erase everything from the phone.
A good place to look for informations will be here on xda and the official miUI forum

The best custom rom for mi5, in my opinion, are the RR and the AOSCP. Fast, light (in space used and ram engaged) and maintained with love and dediction.
But they have some flaws; flaws widely discussed in their respective threads (here on xda).
My suggestion: if it's the first time for you with the miUI ... Give it a try!
Because it's in fact a custom rom, with many minor (and major) things already at your disposal.

Search
LineageOS is your ROM then.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-1-xiaomi-mi-5-t3501971
We'll get the official gemini release tonight.
The place for the mi5 roms in xda is in the front page of the mi5 subforum; there is a section just for them full of info and goodies and pixies and unicorns and etc etc. :
mi5 subforum: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5
RR stands for Resurrection Remix and AOSCP is also know as CypherOS
But just a couple of hours ago LineageOS has started with the nightly: https://download.lineageos.org/gemini
And yes: do a search before asking a redundant question because all the informations are already here at your disposal.

Okay, sounds fair enough. The thing is that you'll have to flash ROMs on your own to check what is better for you.
I'll recommend you to open ROM section of Redmi 4X and and in new tab open YouTube and check and compare what suits for you because everyone has different choices and usage.
For me this ROM works great in terms of battery backup, performance and features (which is important to me)
Oreo based...
Resurrection Remix
dot OS
Havoc OS (ignore final build it has random reboot issue)
Pie based...
Arrow OS.
Havoc OS(using currently and it has good battery backup)
crDroid
Waiting for dot OS

Okay, go for Arrow OS then it has very limited customisation and it is close to stock Android You can check its UI and review on YouTube.
I haven't tried lineage OS (both Oreo and Pie) I like feature full of ROM which is can customize the way I want so I can't say anything about lineage OS but it you can check its thread for more details and it's stability, battery backup and bugs related stuff.

I don't get what you want exactly?
Custom roms are usually based on lineage OS and they get modified further by different rom developers and rom community.
There's currently no official Android pie based lineage OS available as I am writing this comment, however there's lineage Oreo ROM available which is nightly build.
If you only want to flash lineage OS then flash it. Pie ROM unofficially available flash it if you want to. They do get updated once developers avails it.
Also I did not get why are you sharing this stuff here, I think it's irrelevant.
There's also many other roms gives ota's and IMO it doesn't matter much if it's ota's or not. One can flash it manually. Only benefit is we get to know new update is available.
Wait for lineage OS pie official or flash Oreo based official lineage OS.
Seriously decide first what you want, I've given much of my time I think it won't be possible for me to do.

You'll find several custom roms official ones and unofficial ones.
Official ones are supported by its rom community and developers here help each other to build builds. you'll often see in credits that several rom community and developers helped to build it.
Unofficial ones are those builds which individual developer(s) built it on their own time they might have taken help from other developers (individual or from community)
XDA is most trusted among android enthusiast website. i can't say anything about other websites.
Custom roms needs to uploaded on their own website or some other cloud storage such as Gdrive, androidfilehost, sourceforge. usually this are download pages you'll be directed to.
If there is any other community or website i can't say anything about it.
Your discretion is advised in such cases.
For your information i've never had any issues with links shared on xda.
it is hard work from developers and community which avails custom rom to us which i appreciate and same goes to XDA.
If any case you are skeptical do not proceed, but it is better than that Xiaomi's MIUI which where they clearly said we will use user data and process it and data will send to their servers.

suggestions for custom ROM´s (everday use, Cam)

Hi guys,
actually, I´m trying to bring my Mi9 back to life with a new battery. Since now, I´m on xiaomi.eu 12.5.6.
In order to keep my Mi9 updated, I tried to figure out, which Custom ROM I´d go for. Criteria are every day use (stability, battery lifetime, smoothness, security updates). Conclusion after reading the threads is that most official 11.0 ROMs do very well (for example crDroid, Havoc, …). Since twrp still doesn´t support encryption, I´d go for 11.0.
Another point is a good cam out of the box (using all lenses and features and compareable to stock quality). Or do I need to install gcam to reach this goal?
Thx in advance for suggestions, I know the question for „best ROM“ is pretty much too simple, but I´d like to get a starting point…
how did you get xiaomi.eu 12.5.6? I saw only chinese

Question Flashing Android 13 based ROMs, how?

I'm seeing popular ROMs like EvoX and ArrowOS having official builds running on Android 13, and I'm curious how can I get them running on my Note 10 Pro, so any idea how to flash them on TWRP?

Install lIke always ???
:: download image, boot to twrp, clear relevant partitions ( see thousands threads before ), install .zip or image of rom, maybe install gapps and magisk , etc.
Go through the advertisements, but first understand whats going on , before you brick your device
Good luck !

I think that the only person who can answer You is Yourself, by installing and testing each of the beta version of the 3 roms Android 13 existing at this moment for the Redmi Note 10 Pro.
Why ?
It’s a bit early as these 3 A13 roms are very recent and no many persons have already tested them.
I installed once Arrows 13, I find this rom very promising but I can’t use it as daily driver because I’m missing features which I have with A12 crDroid like separate volume for phone and notifications, 2 buttons navigation, advanced restart, MIUI camera, …
The download link for the second one seems to be not available for the moment.
The third one is total new (today) and the download link for the Redmi Note 10 Pro seems not to be yet loaded.
The best for You is either try by yourself or wait some time for having the advice of other users.

All depends of what you are expecting of the rom.
This morning I installed for the second time the last version of "Android 13 Project Elixir" on XDA forum :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ir-official-thirteen-aosp-05-09-2022.4489275/.
I gave my opinion about it (see and read last post of the thread Elixir).
The only point about which I will never discuss is the battery draining bacause it depends not only from the rom but also of the way you are using your smartphone and from the applications you have installed and are using.
Most, if not all, android 13 custom roms are still wip regarding the customisation, almost barebone. Miui camera might get ported to a13 once every bugs has been squished, meanwhile gcam should be a better alternative (see the dedicated thread about it). My advice: sticks to a12 until all customisation has been migrated to a13, unless you're willing to be a tester.

Question Issues with LOS+microG & opinions about Omnirom

Hi everyone,
I'm using LineageOS+microG on my Zenfone 8 since 6 months, but I'm not fully satisfied.
Indeed, I regularly encounter some issues like:
Capricious fingerprint sensor.
Various graphic bugs (when opening the notification bar, or the last applications menu).
The phone asks for the PIN code, whereas it is already unlocked.
Sometime I can't control it anymore, there are invisible click everywhere in the screen... Scarce but very annoying.
I come from a Lineage 18 on a Oneplus, and it had been working perfectly. So maybe it's just due to Lineage 19?
Moreover, the LineageOS+microG project seems not to offer weekly updates - for instance, the last LineageOS version date from 2022-11-19 and the last LineageOS+microG from 2022-10-23.
So I have two questions:
Are these issues normal, or related to my phone? If yes, what can I do?
I've seen that there is another ROM for Zenfone 8: Omnirom. I don't know it well, can I expect some improvements if I install it instead of LOS?
Thank in advance for your feedbacks.

I'm using OmniROM with MicroG on my Asus Zenfone 8 since I bought the phone several month ago without problems. Everything I need works -- IMHO it's a perfect Android for the Zenfone 8 .
And OmniROM supports signature spoofing so the patched Playstore works.
I don't think that weekly updates are necessary for a phone OS (AFAIK google releases Android patches only once a month) but if you need them : There is a new image for OmniROM created every week.
And you can simply copy the repositories for OmniROM to your local workstation and create your own image of the OS as often as you like (after resyncing the repos)
For more details regarding creating your own OmniROM image see

Hi bnsmb,
Thanks for your review about Omnirom, it looks interesting.
As everything works well for you, it would mean that whether my phone has an issue, whether LOS contains more bugs than Omnirom... but I'm surprised about that. I thought LOS would be stable too.
I'm agree with you about the updates, I don't need once a week, except when the firmware looks unstable.
