Hi,
A few days ago, I replaced a USB socket on friend's old Samsung Note 1 (GT-N7000). Soldering may not be very professional, but it does the job - the phone is charging and it can connect to the computer.
Today (3 days after replacing the USB) he came back to me with another problem -
after turning on the phone, only the white brand name and model appear at the start and then nothing, a black screen. I think it's turning off. He says he had some problems with the battery in the meantime and the screen was flickering strangely.
He had a custom ROM loaded for a long time that worked normally and worked well on this phone.
Today, despite not starting the system, I was able to enter TWRP recovery and DL mode. However, if I wanted to do anything in recovery (backup, factory reset, etc), the screen turned off. After a few attempts, it stopped going into recovery.
I have restored the original software using Odin and N7000XXLSZ_OXELS7_4.1.2_Repair_Firmware
- still after the white inscriptions at the start, the screen goes black and nothing
- trying to enter recovery, overturned android appears for a moment and the screen goes black
- DL mode works
Maybe someone knows what could have happened and most importantly how to get this phone work? Preferably on some "custom ROM" to have at least Android 7.
I was thinking, I was looking, I was tearing my hair out of my head. I searched half the internet and suddenly stumbled upon this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...bricked-only-download-mode-available.3096409/
The phone is the same, the problem is the same - the battery is to blame. I immediately called the owner to give all the batteries he has.
OH, OF COURSE! The one I got along with the phone and its problems was the only one that caused all the restarts and errors. After inserting a different battery, the problems were resolved.
All that's left is to clean up Android and the case is closed.
By the way - I have collected in one place the files and information (Polish language only) on how to install NightOwl LineageOS 14.1 Android 7.1.

So I got an interesting device online - a prototype Galaxy Camera (EK-GC100). Only 2 hours ago I received this baby which looks very different from the production model, and more importantly, has a software build that's pre-production: GC100ZCALH1 (Android 4.1.1). All existing ROMs on the web dates back to LJ5 and LH1 is even earlier than that.
Problem is, I recklessly thought that this prototype should be able to use a firmware from a production model, and without second thought flashed a later firmware on it (XXBMC3 - Android 4.1.2). The device boots up, but the screen immediately goes wild at the "Galaxy Camera EK-GC100" splash screen for some brief seconds, and then the screen blacks out. I can hear booting sounds. On very rare occasions the screen would light up saying "Encrytion unsuccessful", asking me to do a factory reset, but clicking on the button simply reboots the device.
I attempted to boot into recovery (both stock and CWM), but after the screen goes wild and shuts down, I can see nothing so I can't operate even if the recovery actually works.
I am currently experimenting with different firmwares in Odin but I doubt that would help. What can I do as of now? Thanks for any tips. I don't want it to be a $60 paperweight...
This is a very strange problem. I never saw anything similar in my life and I searched for someone with a similar problem but I cannot find anything. So I am posting this thread, maybe someone here knows what I should do.
This tablet has been riddled with problems, but this one makes it close to useless. I had several problems since I got the tablet where it won't wake up after sleeping and you had to reboot the thing, where the dock is not available after sleeping and you have to undock and redock it, where the battery drains while sleeping etc etc. Annoyances but I can live with them. I know there is a fix for the dock and you have to send it to Asus, but shipping is expensive so I'll learn to live with it.
This problem though.. this is a big one. So just to clarify, the tablet is rooted with the original 4.4.2 ROM. I did not make any changes in the past week. Yesterday morning, I woke up and used it normally. Later that morning I unplugged it from the charger and that's when I noticed this problem. So while it is connected to the charger the tablet will function normally. After I unplug it the tablet will freeze after a few seconds, reboot on its own and then it will boot until the icons start coming up. Usually after this you get the lockscreen, but instead the screen will black out. After a few seconds the icons start coming back and the the screen will black out again and so on. This loop will continue forever unless you plug the charger in. When you plug in the charger, the icons will come up and after you get the lock screen (instead of the black screen), and you can use it normally. If you unplug it again, the boot loop starts again. This behavior is the same whether using the dock or not.
I don't want to do a factory reset just yet if I can. Last time I did a factory reset, the tablet would not boot and I had to send it back for a replacement. When I get to the fastboot screen, trying RCK I get the dead Android with the red exclamation, and cold booting does nothing.
Any suggestions please? Any kind of log I can get to help? I can post a video if the problem is not clear.
Thanks.

Hi, to start this reply, I'll let you know that I am no professional at any of this stuff. I am a regular person that has had experience with flashing ROMs and whatnot. In my opinion, this seems like a software (maybe hardware) related problem. So there are a couple of options you have here.
1. Are you still under your warranty period? You could return it and get another one (easy fix)
2. You could try to factory reset, and if it doesn't turn on, rma the tablet (which it sounds like it may be cheaper to just buy a new one anyways)
3. You could try unlocking the bootloader. Then install a custom ROM (kind of risky, but might be less risky than #2)
Overall, you are not in an amazing spot with your tablet. It saddens me to see all the problems with asus's tablets. I have been with them since the transformer prime because of their laptop like tablet makes it easy to use in school, but its always been a struggle staying with their lineup. I have returned their tablets multiple times. Please update when you can

If you have a microSD in the tablet take it out and try to boot it. I have seen the weirdest problems because of a card on the fritz....
Second possibility: Hardware. The behavior (working fine when connected to power) seems to indicate it doesn't get the charge it needs from the battery. Could be that it is going kaputt. It's not totally fried but enough that the tablet does not get a reliable charge from the battery.
Third option would be to reflash the firmware. That would eliminate a software problem. You will loose root if you do that...
Since you're still on the original firmware, I assume you did not unlock the bootloader and rooted with Towelroot - correct?
Whatever you do, backup everything you care about off the tablet now....
Thanks for your replies/suggestions. I could not use towelroot as it was on 4.4.2 (I think I read it is not possible). The bootloader is unlocked. This is my second tablet as I had returned the original one. I tried putting Cromi-X on it, and when I got to the step to factory reset it (using fastboot), the thing just was stuck in an endless loop. I could not even get to fastboot and my PC wouldn't recognize it. All it did was boot to the ASUS logo (and the message that the bootloader was unlocked) and reboot.
So this is the replacement unit and the charging issue was the problem. I say was because believe me or not the tablet is now smashed to bits. Since it must always be connected with a charger to work, I was carrying it around docked as I usually do and forgot that it was plugged in. I have resorted to an extra long extension cord with the charger plugged in to walk around. Anyway I forgot it was plugged in, the extension cord reached its limit and the charger cord yanked the tablet out of my hands and onto its side - screen facing away. I sweared, feared the worst and went to pick it up. The good news is that it still boots. The bad news is that the screen is completely smashed. The back cover is bent at one corner and the glass is smashed at that corner with cracks running to the other side. The touchscreen is not working anymore either. To add insult to the injury the tablet still only boots up with the charger plugged in..so there's that.
I don't know what to do now. I have contacted ASUS for a possible RMA but got no response yet. The thing is I don't feel like spending more money on it given the problems experienced. A screen with digitizer on ebay is about €75..so not exactly cheap.
I guess we can close this thread as it is now pointless. I hope no one has to go through my experience and that maybe it was a one off thing.
Thanks again to whoever replied. I appreciate it.
Hi Guys,
I have this phone for many years, but suddenly the random reboots started approx 2-3 months ago, running originally KitKat 4.4.4 at this time. Before that I was rooted the phone and I supposed it could be something with that. However, flashing back & factory resets didn't help at all, clearing dalvik caches as well. What I tried up to now:
1. Upgraded/Downgraded the bootloader -- no change
2. Tried different recovery modes -- CWM & TWRP(the current one)
3. Different ROMs -- no change, the sudden restarts persist.
(4. Updated the radio -- the signal got quite better)
Three days ago I've upgraded to Lollipop 5.1.1 (the Cyanogenmod 12.1), the same story continued after a while (different applications installed).
There's one thing for sure: flashing the factories always results into a very stable phone at the beginning, installing some more applications leads to the same state -- random and frequent restarts.
I've checked the hardware -- the power button looks ok, it's definitely not the main cause b/c it reboots without touching! The CPU temp & free memory look quite good too.
Now, the current situation is as follows:
- flashed ROM (official one): 2016-03-03 Poland (T-mobile) 4.4.4 I9305XXUFOL2 I9305TPLFOL2 (seems like the most stable till now)
- installed ATK (Advanced Task Killer) -- configured to kill all applications aggressively when the screen goes off.
For me it looks like the ATK helps much, although I don't know the reason. Also, memory checked, I've executed all kind of possible tests up to the phone -- all appears as OK. Also, I don't know if it's related to the issue but I moved all possible apps installed to the SD card. The internal memory has been formatted via TWRP before the last ROM installation... Does anyone have any idea what could be the reason for the sudden restarts? It restarts even in Safe Mode, without any obvious reason and not touching the phone at all. The CPU load at the times of restart is quite low, the temperature as well. I doubt if the RAM is corrupted or maybe the NAND has some bad blocks. Are there any useful utils for tests that could be executed?
PS: I attach some log file, which I gathered once I was running the Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Lollipop). As I stated above the situation is the same when running 4.4.4 and 5.1.1. Sometimes after such a restart, it sticks in a boot-loop (if I boot manually via the GUI in recovery or download mode it will not).
Current versions:
---------------------
Android: 4.4.4
Baseband: I9305XXUFOA1
Kernel: 3.0.31-4282983/[email protected] #1
Build: KTU84P.I9305XXUFOL2
SELinux: Enforcing
Recovery: TWRP
I beg for your help on this! Cheers!
Same problem here...
Hi there
I'm having this same annoying issue with my Samsung GT-I9305. It suddenly restarts without doing absolutely nothing but looking at the screen or scrolling a text or just sending a sms/whatsapp/whatever.... I started trying to restart the phone (nah) turning it off and back on (nah) changing the battery for another one that I have here with me (nah)... After that, I extracted the SD Card and leave the phone only with internal storage (again, nothing happened but restarting randomly). I tried not installing apps such as FB, even Pebble App or just stopped sycronizing my phone with my Pebble Time via Bluetooth, but with the same and well known result: still restarting suddenly. I have noticed that when Google Play detects that there are few apps with a newer version asking to be updated, the phone restarts too! I tried deactivating this option in Google Play, just letting me to decide when and how to upgrade my apps, but It seems that it still detects the app upgrading needs and keep doing it the same way.
About a year ago, I found the same problem with my phone, but in that time it was related to the power button, it seems that it was pressed all the time and the device felt into a rebooting cycle. I check some blogs and I solved the problem cleaning the button with this electronic cleaning spray. I almost drowned my Samsung but I let it dry for a few hours. It worked fine, until now.
My cellphone is still in Android 4.3 (I9305ZHUCNB1) I don't know why I can't upgrade it to a newer version, even when I see that the 4.4 is available for this model. Right now, I'm thinking about change the cellphone and just forget the whole problem. But I'm just exploring again to see if I can find a last solution that tackles this annoying issue.
Did you manage to solve this problem??
Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately not, I had to buy a new phone. I guess the processor or other element suddenly broke, there's no other explanation to me. Also, as you see no any reasonable support in the forum.. Anyway, wish you a good luck with this.
Not so good here too...
Thank you. But unfortunately for me too... Today my phone went black screened suddenly, when booting only got to Samsung GTI9305 logo... I tried to restart through secure mode and the other one you get pressing power plus home plus volume high, and when tried to do a cache cleaning and rebooting it showed some mmcblk failed issues. So I couldn't do so much to revert this situation. I already bought a new phone, not Samsung of course. I have read that some people had the same problem as me just because they let the battery reach a very low level in one opportunity, and something in the internal memory went broke. So it was a great phone, for three years and half, but it's so bad that it fails this way unexpectedly and without any apparent reason...
Yeh... There's no much support here, especially with old flagship cellphones...

Sorry for bothering this thread also... I got success by replacing the display!
The first time I got my phone was about two days ago. I got the MotoG2 from ebay at such a cheap price ($20), I won the auction and so yeah (26 bids). HOWEVER, this is what the description says from the seller:"This smart phone sells working as-is because screen is cracked, LCD has liquid damage, other components work as they are supposed to. SIM slot/cellular feature has not been tested on any networks. Customer data have been deleted from smartphone. *Battery life and performance on used electronic devices can not be guaranteed. * Entire screen is cracked; there are many scratches and scuffs on the bezels and on the back side. Smart phone sells with battery and non-OEM box.
I finally got it and shipped to my house, on'ed it and everything worked fine the camera, audio, basically it was brand new except for the front screen that is shattered. Later on, i decided to root my Android phone with KingRoot on kingroot.net and it was fast and easy. I didn't know what to do after, my friend told me about it and you can do many things with root. My phone was successfully rooted. I was browsing Google Play untill i saw an app that says "boot animations" I was like "Cool, gonna test it out" so it did install and i opened it. It has a ton of animations and i chose one to be as my boot animation. Unfortuanately, I so stupid forgot to backup the previous original (Motorola boot animation). It now takes a bit longer to boot up (idk whether it was the animation itself, or the fact that my phone is now rooted). I decided to uninstall the root, hoping the boot animation was gone(also kinda blurry). Well it did not, but i was like whatever. Phone still worked fully, and decided to stuck it up with that boot animation.
Now that my phone is unrooted, i decided to root it again since it did not work. I tried to install an app that AdAway and it did work. Ads were gone and i was happy.
Until. A motorola screen popped up saying it has a system update. I forgot what the update is about. All i remember is something do with "stabilizing and other stuff" and takes about 10 min.
So I did install it, phone off'd and on with an android logo with a progress bar. After it was complete A picture of an android lying down with an exclamation mark saying "Error". I was like wtf, what happened. I couldn't boot up my device because of this error. I off'd my phone and then on'd it again. It now says "no command." with the same android guy. I gave up and tried to "wipe data and personalized content" "THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE" so i just accepted it. I off'd my phone and boot it up. There was an infinite boot loop, and tried to do as much as i could. But it always led to this(phone on's then offs a few seconds later then on a few seconds later and a few seconds later An android guy says"Erasing..."few seconds later phone off's again. REPEAT!" It was like this and left it the entire night with a cable charged to it so it will not die. So its now unusable and i do not know wtf i should do. The same friking Android guy saying "erasing" i dont think its erasing because when i hold the (power button + Volume up) it says "data wipe complete". It was just repeating over and over and over again with the say frikin vibration everytime it turns on. Tried to Enter Factory, Recover, normal recovery, wipe data again. Basically i did everything that was reasonable that would fix this boot loop. HELP PLS!
Sorry have bad english.
Hi all,
I am completely running out of things to try and do now.
After installing Android 7 on my Note 5 I had the strangest issue that i in general have never seen on a phone. The screen is simply black (which isnt that strange) and the phone is fully functional. Bare with me, after reseting it multiple times so it would finally come on the screen goes crazy and turns goes into so many colours (if it turns on that is). Its either that or jumps all around the phone, quite literally it glitches out completely. Its like one of those virus cut scenes you see in movies, it goes different colours, glitches out, jumps around and completely misformats.
From the beginning i knew this was not a broken screen.
So far i have tried.
1. Factory reseting the phone. That gave me about 5 minutes of normal use until i locked the phone and it wouldnt unlock again.
2. Factrory reseting multiple times... again to no avail, it would work for short periods of time and glitch out again.
3. Reflashing stock Android 7 in Odin. - No avail.
4. Flashing Dr.Kretans Rom... worked for 1 day which made me so happy and think that the problem was solved but then the same problem persisted.
5. Installing Arters Kernel.. (arter97-kernel-n920cig-22.0) Nothing... literally did that today and still NOTHING
6. Re partitioning. Quickest process and no avail.
In more detail, if the phone does sucessfully boot, and bare in mind sometimes it takes more than 2 hours to get ANYTHING on the screen (including recovery which doesnt boot up either until the initial apperance of something on the screen)
I tried taking the phone to a phone shop before doing anything myself and since in England this phone was never released theyre refusing to touch it. I tried calling samsung and they dont want to do anything either cause its not a UK variant.
Could someone please tell me anything else i can try. I feel like im totally running out of options here.
My phone details are as follow
Galaxy Note 5
SM-920I Singapore Singtel Variant
Running on 6.01 (i downgraded from Kretan)
And the kernel is the one previously mentioned v.22.0
I would appreciate anyone's help or suggestions so much at this point. All these problems started since the 7.0 update a few weeks back :/
Oh its also running TWRP recovery (arter97-recovery-n920cig-22.0-twrp_3.0.2-0.tar)
