You should be having proper knowledge of flashing Custom ROM and how to Restore a phone if anything goes wrong.
Take complete backup before taking any action based on this thread. I am not responsible for any action taken by you.
I am just compiling all the information / files available on different websites into this thread, I have patched together with cyber spit, bubblegum, and tape, for a pretty much fully working Android 10 running rom. I have removed what I believe to be all of the bloat. Worked to modify a working android 10 vendor. Latest Magisk 19.5 installer is all ready included as of Oct 10th 2019 as well as the modified boot for root access. Gapps are also included for a fully functioning playstore.
All Credit goes to respective developer/s. I request XDA moderator and or Developer of Respective files to let me know if I have forgotten to mentioned (give credit) their name in this thread. The Download Links are given directly from respective Developer/s.
You need the following two files to run Android 10 on Mi Max 2 (Oxygen). This ROM recovery is ported with many patches and customized from various sources. This ROM maybe Stable enough for your daily use on Mi Max 2. I have access to two MM2 4/64 Global versions using a 1tb sd card one on At&t the other on Tmobile.
1a. Treble Mi Max 2 Recovery 3.2.1 (https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=5862345805528056270)
1b. OrangeFox Recover 10

2. Android 10 Ported Pixel.

First step:
Start your phone into recovery and Flash a Treble recovery, if already not flashed. Restart into Recovery.
Click Wipe then Advance wipe and clear System, Vendor, Boot, Data, Cache, and Dalvick cache.
Second step:
Now Extract the Downloaded Rom files in Recovery backup folder. You should know where and how to Extract. (Use extract tool for android or pc then copy paste to recovery backup folder.)
Third step:
Click Restore and Select System, Boot, Vendor and Swipe to confirm. Wait for restore to complete. If any errors, Reboot recovery and try again. Or Mount the System, Vendor, Boot and try again. After Restore completes Reboot. Please allow 1-2 Minutes for first boot, Ignore any errors.
If I missed anything in the above, kindly let me know to include. If you make any further updates / patches that makes this ROM more stable / perfect or enables new features, please don't hesitate to message me to include in this thread.
I have an old PC running windows with 8gb HDD (Asus 901 eeepc) max at any one given time, So if you would like to make the recovery image into a flashable zip, I'd be happy to update/add it.
If you can afford it, Im trying to save for a computer from this decade, any help is appreciated

If you would like to use the boot, vendor, system, or any other files, All I ask is pass on the proper credits.

GUIDE How to Instal GSI ROM- Havoc-OS-v3.X-Official-arm64 A/B On Redmi 8

Here I bring to you the official Havoc-os ROM for ARM64 A/B devices and fully functional on Redmi 8
The intention of this post is to make a step-by-step tutorial on the installation of this excellent GSI ROM on Redmi 8 and give assistance in the installation process
All the development credits for this wonderful ROM go to the Havoc team
@Ruturaj Kadam
@jhenrique09
@SKULSHADY
You can follow his work in the next post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/development/rom-havoc-os-v3-0-t3996569
Telegram Support Group: https://t.me/havocofficial
Telegram Announcements Channel: https://t.me/Havoc_OS
What is working:
Everything works perfectly
Bugs
Automatic brightness is not working, (brightness must be adjusted manual for now)
Update to fix the automatic brightness on your device, after installing the ROM, put in the folder SYSTEM-OVERLAY the treble-overlay-xiaomi-redmi 8.apk and set the permission for the apk on 644 and reboot ..... problem solved
the necessary files are at the end of the tutorial
Remember I am not a developer if you are presenting any bugs let us know and you can contact the Havoc team at the links described above
Steps
I am not responsible for any damage caused to your device by not following the steps or negligence at the time of this process, All the steps were carried out and tested on my personal device and are confirmed, My device Redmi 8 3/32 global version, the version that i tested Havoc-OS-v3.5-20200522-Official-arm64-ab.img.xz
First make a backup of all the necessary information in case something goes wrong you can easily recover,Charge the battery at least 80%
All your data will be deleted during the process
the necessary files are at the end of the tutorial
1) Unlock the Bootloader if you have not already done it or do not know how to, follow this post:http://en.miui.com/unlock/
2) Install a custon recovery and flash vbmeta.img together
Note: TWRP is recommended for this process but you should be aware that depending on your type of screen there may be problems (TWRP work fine on Tianma display), so you can also use Orange fox,
Note2: it is recommended not to use Hyper Shell for the installation of vbmeta.img it can cause problems, cmd can be used in the root folder plattform tools
Note3: If you already have the recovery installed and you are only going to flash vbmeta.img it is recommended to redo the full TWRP installation process together at vbmeta.img, restart in the recovery you can see that the encryption of the data is no longer available if you had it, and then boot in the ROM (in my particular case I did not do it first time and then could not put the files necessary for the installation in the internal memory)
Note4: use only This conmand to flash vbmeta.img " fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img" if you disable the secure boot loader with the Disable_Dm-Verity command then when starting in the ROM you will not be able to configure any lock or passsword for your devices.
3)Format data, if it doesn't format the data you will have bootloop
4)Make wipe only to cache, dalvik, system, data
5) Copy all the files to the phone (Havoc-OS-v3.5-20200522-Official-arm64-ab.img you can find it by unpacking the zip, permisiverv5, magisk,Certification Patch.zip, opengapp recommended nano or pico)
6) Install system image to system partition.
7) Install permissiver V5
8) Resize system partition to flash opengapps.
9) Flash Opengapps
10) Flash Certification Patch
11) Reboot
12) Install Magisk (optional if you want rooted your ROM)
the boot process takes 5 to 10 minutes the first boot in case of any problem in any of the stages you can reinstall Miui version fastboot with Mi flash tool and start again
How upgrade (Same Android Version)
1 Make a Wipe on Dalvik and cache only.
2 install the 3.x version system image on the system partition
3 Install permissiver V5
4 Resize system partition to flash opengapps.
5 Flash Opengapps ( if you dont flash the gapps you will have a fc on google apps )
6 Flash Certification Patch
7 Reboot

the possibility of using VoLTE depends on the following factors:
Your location, the account you have with your operator and the model of your Phone
The operator, operator account, location, and phone model of the person you are calling
Some operators support VoLTE only in certain cities or in certain area codes. Contact your operator for information about your area and your account.
You can verify the VoLTE activation according to your operator using in dialer * # * # 4636 # * # * go to devices information

How to fix no mobile data? There's an x on the signal bars.
volte not working on any gsi
volte works fine on stock rom but not on gsi. this is the only missing feature and reason why many avoid gsi's. I dont understand why can there be a fix for volte. some operators are truly 4g and support only volte like jio in india. any way to fix this?
thanks
P.s : I have not tested this rom but I know it wont work cause its another GSI.

Right now, I'm using This rom.
It's very much customizable , but have some few bugs, and some things should added with it!
Fristly, Internet Speed meter showing speed when i've speed over 100 kbps
Secondly, I don’t find any ringtone changer in this rom ( very much disappointed right now for this problem)
Thirdl, When I was playing PUBG Mobile, sometimes display isn’t rotating
Fourthly , I can't find gaming performance better than MIUI ( It hurted me coz I listened that HavocOs is gaming os and I'm not getting better performance while gaming)
And The big problem is, I can't use any magisk module like Viper4andriod Fx and other.
Except those, I liked this rom?
I think that in future, this problems will no remain??
Thank you
( My English is bad)
I installed it and it works fluently! But there are some issues that needs to be fixed ASAP!
1) The contact app doesn't show contacts saved in SIM card..it only shows contacts which are saved in the device or in gmail.
2) The video recording doesn't work accurately. When I finish recording a video and watch it, it doesn't save the recording accurately. Example- if i record for 30 seconds, the video will be saved as 1 minute video and the first 30 seconds of the video will be a freeze frame.
3) The ambient display (always on display) doesn't work.
4) Fingerprint is slower than stock MIUI and sometime needs to touch twice to unlock the phone.
Please fix these issues as these are some important features.. Besides, everything works just fine!

Recovery without data loss

Hi Community,
you are my last salvation. I am owner of Pixel 4a 5g since half a year and now it cannot boot anymore. I see only the google-"G" and the loading bar nothing else. I can start the Boatloader but before i do a factory reset i need to backup my photos (of my 9 month old son). It would be a great pity if I could not save them.
Do you have an idea how to get access to the pictures?
Here some facts:
- i didn't use any cloud services so the pictures are really only on the smartphone (in the future i will do)
- unfortunately the smartphone is not set to usb debugging
- until now the system is not rooted
- the boatloader is locked
- tried something with adb but only a few commands are working (i think because of the facts before)
Is it possible to do a reset without to delete the data partition?
Is it possible to load TWRP in the recovery area without root / with locked bootloader?
What do you think is broken? software or hardware?
Thanks a lot for every hint.

About the best you can hope for is to sideload a full update, and maybe it will boot.
Full OTA Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices | Google Play services | Google for Developers

Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices | Google Play services | Google for Developers

but you will need to edit the .bat file so it doesn't wipe your data

.bat files are really just text files.
You can just add .txt file extension to the name and open with any text program like notepad.
Or use a program like notepad++
Notepadplusplus.org
Remove the line
fastboot erase userdata
Save the file.
Edit file extension back to .bat

You can just add .txt file extension to the name and open with any text program like notepad.
Or use a program like notepad++
Notepadplusplus.org
Remove the line
fastboot erase userdata
Save the file.
Edit file extension back to .bat

Hi, thanks for your reply.
The bat file looks like the picture below.
Unfortunately no erase userdata line.
Any idea?
Thanks for your help.

Annoyed with Redmi 9 censorship

Hi, I'm new here and signed up to ask help from this community. It's related to the new Xiaomi MIUI 12.5.1 update which totally blocks any Google products, even with a VPN.
I used Google installer (English and different Chinese versions) but still cannot use Google products anymore even when I can install.
This blocks YouTube app, Tinder, and other apps which needs location info from Google Services to be running properly.
Everything was working well until July this year but I no longer can use a work around and tried many things, including some posts in this community and YouTube. Even with google framework, play and services installed, I cannot add an account to the phone cuz it freezes when adding (any) account.
Installed and reinstalled Google products, deleted cache, reinstalled again etc etc, all the basics. Also tried MIUI optimization on and off on developers option but not there yet.
Redmi9, android 11, octacore max2, 4GB ram, model m2004j19c, based in China mainland (important).
I'd like to ask you what you advise. Thank you

This is xiaomi's shi**y policy. Now you basically have a fancy, glowing paperweight. You still can recover it by flashing, or installing, a custom rom (custom operating system).
Do not attempt to install a lower version of stock MIUI as that will turn it into a hard paperweight, that does not even turn on.
Well flash a custom rom.
Brief steps:
1. Unlock bootloader with mi unlock.
2. Install sdk platform tools
SDK Platform Tools release notes | Android Studio | Android Developers
Android SDK Platform-Tools is a component for the Android SDK.
developer.android.com
Install usb drivers
3. Right click in the sdk platform tools (with fastboot.exe, adb.exe, etc) and select open command prompt (or powershell) here.
Search for a vbmeta.img online. Any should work.
Execute
fastboot --disable-vertification --disable-verity C:\path-to-vbmeta.img.
Add '.\' in front if it failed.
3. Flash TWRP with command
Fastboot flash recovery C:\path-to-twrp.img
Fastboot reboot
Your phone will be in twrp.
4. Move a custom rom, from the xda forum of your phone, into your phone internal storage via usb.
5. Wipe> factory reset
Flash> your custom rom
Flash google apps from www.opengapps.com
Reboot
Done

as far as i know there is no Xiaomi.eu rom for redmi 9.
Well try flashing global ROM.
Be extra careful. Your phone is likely to get into this MIUI can't be installed on this device. Do NOT relock your bootloader or your phone is toast.

How did you install it? I tried zipping it to a tar file with 7-zip and flashing it from AP with Odin but that didn't work.
Never mind. Got it with fastboot. But backup fails and that's my reason for wanting TWRP.
Change the name TWRP-3.6.1_11-1_GTA4XLWIFI.IMG by
recovery.img
and create.
recovery.tar
and pass it with Odin

I didn't rename it, so that's why it didn't work with Odin. But as I said, I managed to flash it with fastboot anyway. But it still won't backup, probably because data is encrypted.

Why use TWRP when you have Lineage Recovery? Lineage Recovery is better.
Backup option work?
Plzz make for LTE variant
Just made a version for the LTE variant (modified prop.default).
Issues I've found:
Encrypted data partition can't be mounted.
LineageOS fails to install ota updates, because update zip is stored in data partition.
Backup option is not working correctly unless data are decrypted.
Mind the gapps installer fails because it can't mount system_ext partition.
Tested on my SM-P615.

#3 I would much prefer to have backup than encrypted data, if that were an option. Is there a way to keep LOS from re-encrypting data? I know that in earlier versions, once you formatted the data partition, it didn't get encrypted again unless you flashed a stock ROM. Or is this a GSI thing?
To prevent lineageos from re-encrypt data open /vendor/etc/fstab.exynos9611 in an text editor, find a line which starts with "/dev/block/platform/13520000.ufs/by-name/userdata" and remove
fileencryption=aes-256-xts parameter (don't forget to remove also the comma!).
WARNING: That should be done after wiping. The instructions are device specific!

Let me see if I have the steps right. I already have LOS up and running. I flash TWRP and boot to it. Then format the data partition to get rid of encryption. Then edit as per the above and reboot. Is that right?
This is why Linux4 abandoned TWRP for the platform. TWRP seems so problematic! Everyone should switch back to Lineage Recovery. Data is encrypted for good reason on the devices. You don't need a backup option in recovery plus why use TWRP when you can use an official looking recovery? OTA updates on LOS Recovery aren't hideous with logs and it looks official and fits with Lineage! Use Lineage Recovery, NOT this crap excuse of a recovery. Lineage Recovery can be found on the official lineage website for the official version of 19.1 and the unofficial version for unofficial 19.1 can be found at lineage.linux4.de

TWRP is unsuitable for the device because /data is encrypted therefore backup won't work and decrypting data is unsafe.

I guess you neglected to read the post that tells you how to keep LOS from re-encrypting the data partition. I DON'T WANT IT ENCRYPTED!! I have been using Android devices for close to a decade without encryption and have NEVER had a problem. I have a belt. I don't need suspenders too. (And LOS when it was Cyanogenmod.)

Due to the issues with TWRP, Linux4 might block your recovery from being able to install LOS.
