i saw it on amazon and i'm not entirely confident that it will work with the mogul...i'm positive the $20 2gb microSD's will work, but it'd be nice to have double the memory without carrying anything extra around.
there's also a microcenter very near me with some generic 2gb microSD's for about $25...
what do you think?
you can get it cheaper off ebay i think.
i thought it was like $60 on amazon too. it has been CONFIRMED that the 4GB microsd by sandisk DOES in fact work with the mogul, so you shouldn't be too worried about buying it. I myself don't see the point in having to pay for that much extra storage. I got my 2gb card for $9 from buy.com.
thanks, i was thinking the same thing. my old wizard's 2gb minisd was never completely full; there was no point, it would've run out of battery before i got through half of the media. i'm guessing that i'll go with the 2gb microsd. i'm still VERY impressed with the size of the 4gb card...it's like a fingernail!
I grabbed a 4gb microsd off ebay for $60 + 9$ shipping.. came in 4 days and it works great... It's a sandisk microsdhc - and came with a usb reader.
It was from this guy -

I just bought a scandisk sealed 4 gb microSD from Amazon for $69. I have seen a lot of posts spread across several forums sharing that their 4 gb cards they bought from eBay were scams as they would only hold up to 2 gb of data.

Not all phones that can take Micro sd are SDHC compatable, SDHC works with WM6 not WM5 and it's also hardware related too.
The Sandisk 4gb works great with the Mogul, even though htc said maximum 2gb microsd cards, there have been a couple of problems reported with other brands of cards, so Sandisk is the one to get on a Mogul. any other brand may give you problems later on.

Newegg also has a kingston for $25 (including minisd and sd card adapters), and a sandisk for about 35...
Personally, I prefer kingston, but that's just me.
I found the best deals on Ebay...
And you can run the SDHC Patch to use cards larger than 4GB on the Titan/Mogul/6800

Not worth the money though Eaglesteve. I could buy TWO 8gb Sandisk SDHCs with free postage for 37 dollars less than that. 179 dollars for 12gb versus 60 dollars for 8gb is a total rip off for an extra 4gb in my opinion. Hopefully the price will drop soon though.

Www.play.com. It's a sandisk and comes with an sd card adaptor and a usb sdhc card reader. Ive tested my sdhc card in 3 different card adaptors from non-sdhc cards and they work fine anyway so you just need a microsdhc to minisd adaptor from ebay or elsewhere for the athena if you dont have one already....
Any products bought by "early adopters" are more expensive. It will come down in price. When I bought my 4 GB SD cards for AUD300 few years ago it was a steal because the 512MB was going for more than 100 then. Now, we looked at that and laugh. The same goes for Athena - because I bought it very soon after it was released, I paid probably 50% more than what could be had today.

You're right Eaglesteve, although in this instance I think i'll be a late adopter of 12gb cards. I can cope without that extra 4gb for now, 8 is more than enough for me now anyway!

I thought they would come 4th quarter this year...
Nevermind, the article doesn't say a word about availabilty.

i did the same with my psp and pro duo's. In 2005, the best you could get even a 1gb for was about 60 quid on ebay, and I got a 2gb from singapore for 85 quid. these days, only 2 and a bit years later, its about a tenner

Don't mind at all....i should get it a few days after March 10th. Just shoot me a reminder in case I forget.
For all those considering the 12gb micro sdhc cards, the 16gb cards will be released also in 2-3 weeks, with 32 GB models (rather incredibly) arriving in the next few months. Sandisk seem to be ahead of the mark here, and the whole 32gb Athena project could instantly be put on hold: why not take out the mircodrive altogether to save on batteries! it'll be superfast to stick all your films on a 32gb card with the supplied card adaptor and reader, so screw activesync/wm5torage.
32gb cards should work in any sdhc compatible device, since the manufacturer's given capacity for the device's card reader is invariably based on current size limitations. There is no reason why a 32gb card wouldn't work in an Athena so this could be quite a big step for the device, and mobile devices in general.
I disagree that the 32GB project could go on hold. There is a 16GB SSD that costs ~$110, and in 6 months or so, there will be a 32GB SSD out by at least one manufacturer.
Couple that with a 32GB micro SDHC card, then you have an Athena with 64GB, that costs much less than a Sony UX

I think there a people out there who might still want to take their device apart to replace it with an ssd and risk bricking their device (and certainly shred their warranty) but i imagine most would prefer to use a card as the transfer speed of a card in a reader vs software transfer over activesync/wm5toerage file is huge.
By this time of the year, my warranty is already about to expire anyway. If there is well documentated instruction by a more hardware oriented poster, I'm willing to take the risk of opening it up.
I prefer to install all my program on a non-removeable storage, so that I can swap the removeable one in and out at will for even more storage.
Plus, I expect savings in battery life, access speed (SSD should be quite a bit faster than the microdrive, I expect), and reduced weight are all attractions. It would also certainly make Athena surpass X7510 in everyway other than the keyboard. Just imagine, we have larger storage and we still manage to keep all the nice hardware buttons.
That's half the fun is trumping HTC at their own game!
Imagine, when the 16gb 7510 hits the streets and some tech blogs instantly declares is obsolescent because someone has jammed a 32gb ssd into a 7500/7501.
Maybe then HTC will wake up and juice up the 75xx series to have great video performance, and other improvements.
Any update yet on the availability of these larger storage cards? I can't find any 12gb microSDHC for sale online apart from preorders. And if 16gb are only 3 weeks behind, I'll wait for those.
Thanks
Jon
Found some info here... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2281491,00.asp
In part, it says (re SanDisk):
Product-wise, the company made no major announcements at CTIA, but company reps did confirm to us that the previously announced 12GB microSD size will not be released. Instead, this summer the company is going to "jump to the next obvious size," which is 16GB.
Apparently the 12 giggers previously 'available' are all only pre-orders?
I've had a few cards where it would only let me write to half of the card and the other half was corrupt. I suggest every time you buy a flash mem card you write to the full amount right away to test it. Because sometimes you never get around to using the whole thing until way later and then is when you realize it's faulty. 12gig copy time will be insane.

Why would you think it's too good to be true? How much do you think a 32gb would go for?
I bought a 32 gb scandisk from ebay for 29.99 and it works on everything EXCEPT my evo don't waste your money trust me
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
i wouldn't bother. it's most probably a scam. i bought two of them in the past. they are usually 2gb cards that are rebadged to make them look like 32gb cards. if you tried to put anything larger than 2gb, you get the corrupt card message.
Only reputable company to make 32gb micro sdhc now is Sandisk and there card is rated at class 2. So I would seriously doubt anyone else would sell them for $15 dollar unless we are in the stage where cards are 1tb and not gb. Just use common sense and you don't be victim of scams as you only empower them by doing so.
PS: ATM I'm shopping for real 32gb c4 or 16gb c6 so let's see if anyone else is welling to produce 32gb cards.
Well looking at the feed backs, almost all the ones regarding the MicroSD card were something like:
PayPal unclaimed - requested repayment. Could not repay via eBay, so cancelled
So yah, I wouldn't bother
Also, the seller claims it's class 6 which screams fake/scam
My question is WTF is Kingston and PNY with there own 32gb cards. At least competition would lower the price. I heard people were picking up Sandisk 32gb c2 for $50 of Verizon by scheming them as they still sell for $100 which is much lower than anyone else ATM.
BuyDOTcom (noob users can't post links) has a 3C pro 32GB microSD card for like $120. It's a class 4.
Other than that, I haven't seen much competition at all in this area.
I'm content to wait until later this year for more people like RiData and so.

how does he get so many positive feedback on ebay ?

I bought one of these from eBay, not from the same person though. It was a 32Gb Class 4, I got it for about £20.
I works fine in laptop card reader. Put it in my HD2, tried copying a large amount of data, which failed, now I have an 8Mb sd card!!

E = Ebay
NO = No

Well, many of the fake memory cards use host for storage, to fake the large capacity and fast access time.
So when you used it on your laptop, it actually stored all the data on your hard disk. Cool, you thought: it's all working.
Then you used it on HD2, which was impossible for the dodge hack, so it revealed its true nature.

Just installed the new card and swapped over my files. For smaller files, data transfer doesn't seem very different, but large movies definitely seem to transfer faster.
I have purchased (and returned) two defective 32 GB SD cards purchased off eBay. I am shopping for a replacement but I am concerned about the quality of products out there. I have looked at most cards offered and many cards do not match the same printing as shown on the manufactures website, or the manufactures website does not show that size and/or class is even available. I looked at Amazon and have the same concerns (most sales are not Amazon directly, but a sub vendor).
The defective cards I purchased worked partially but were plagued with data loss, even after re-formatting or partitioning.
It seems like the SanDisk Class 2 is the only thing that seems trustworthy, but I am worried that the slow transfer rate will affect watching video etc.
Any advice?
i had the same mentality and got the sandisk. the only other brand i was 'thinking' about was kingston. you just have to check the percentage of reviews on newegg, and not the total score. if there's 20% 1/5 star that's pretty indicative of bad QC. for example, the patriot 16gb class10. i don't mind paying for the speed, but reliability comes before everything.
i'm using the 8gb sandisk uSD and running 0.6.8 froyo SD off of it. loads everything and runs everything fine. i played avi's and rmvb's quite smoothly (~350mb each, not HD).
You have to be very careful with any SD cards from ebay. There are many that are bogus cards. Some vendors will take a 2G class-1 card, flash it to make it look like a 16G Class-10 card. Most people don't have the ability to for a disk test (use ATTO) or will use only a small portion of the flash for a while.
Any Amazon dealer that has been around for over a year and has good reviews should be safe. Still, I like Newegg for things like drives, flash, etc. Amazon just throws a drive in a box and lets it bang around. Newegg listened to their customers, and now packs disks well.
Also, living in New England (or for many West/East coast people), Newegg packages often come in 1-2 days! I've ordered a number of things in the morning, and had them delivered the next day (with standard free shipping).
Since I do worry about "is this a valid product", for things like any Microsoft software, I'll only order directly from Microsoft or Newegg.
I would avoid Ebay for purchasing SD cards.
That said, I've had good experiences using a:
1GB Kingston Class 4 microSD
8GB Kinston Class4 microSD
32GB Sandisk Class4 MicroSD
They have all worked for me.
Hey guys,
I'm interested in getting a 32gb card. I will be watching movies off it and just basically reading books. Is there a huge diff between the two? I googled and I found the diff write and read speeds but my question is how relevant is it to the user? Like will the movies be choppier or books open slower? etc

Sadly, to throw a wrench in your question, there is authority behind the class markings. Basically, there is nothing stoping makers for marking a card Class 10, even when it can barely do 1MB/s writes. So, how does that answer your question?
It comes down to brand. Sandisk by far makes the best microSD cards, which almost always outperform their rating. I have an 8Gb Class 2, that constantly benches at 5MB/s sustained write, and 12MB/s sustained read. I also have an 8GB Kingston clas4, that can barely hold 2MB/s write, if it is lucky. The other issue few talk about is random reads, where again, the Sandisk is much faster (and random reads are not part of the class specifications)..
So, if you get a decent brand (again, Sandisk), a class 2 should be suitable for all music, and most movies. If you can afford it, class 4 will give you wiggle room.
How about adata? Have you had any experience with them?

personal experience no, but i haven't heard alot bad (actually, better than Kingston in many cases). I know they have decent prices on their cards.
With what i was saying before, it is fair to mention that while slow, my Kingston does still work. But saving things to it was painful, and so i avoid its use. Even if you don't get the fastest card, i think the biggest pain will be filling it once.. after that, using it should be ok..
I see. What about the performance? Saving stuff to it isnt much of an issue to me I think. Im more concerned on the performance. Like running movies off it and launching programs etc the sandisk sounds awesome but the price is much higher
For the use you are planning(movies) the big factor will be sequential read speeds. The class system is too easy for the manufacturers to game. Check the specs for the card you are looking at...if they don't tell you, it's likely because they suck. Sandisk class 2 cards are, as stated, usually better than the class 2 they are rated.
so you guys would recommend a class 2 32gb sandisk over a class 4 adata card of the same size yeah?
Can't really say one way or the other. From reading reviews at Newegg...seems like Adata tech support might be a bit iffy...then again those reviews are usually posted by those who have issues or feel like they have to defend their purchase(ie...fanboi's).
One thing I can see for myself...Adata is the only manufacturer on Newegg to actually list their full specs. Even on the manufacturers pages...only Adata has manned up and posted specs. otherwise they all just fall back on the SDHC specifications for class...which as stated can be gamed a bit.
At the end of it all..it's your cash...spend it the way you feel like...do some research for yourself first.
I have a scandisk class 4 32GB and it is way slower then a smaller class 6 that I have. For me, I don't think I could stomach anything slower then the class 4 for large files.

Sandisk is great. I was originally running Nookie Froyo from a class 2 Sandisk. It was actually pretty solid. I moved up to a Transcend class 6 and it's been good too. Both seem to perform well over their class specification when I'm transferring files and have been very stable.
On the other hand, my friend has a Kingston class 10 which seems pretty buggy. A lot of force close errors, looping boots, etc. Though these could just be a coincidence. Haven't seen him transfer any files though, so I can't judge the speed.
SD Cards..
You should be aware that Sandisk, Adata and others do not actually manufacture flash memory chips, they mostly package and test it - the big boys in the game are Intel, Samsung, Toshiba and Hynix. Depending on where or from whom Sandisk buys the basic chip the specs may be different.

Actually there is a requirement if you're in the SD Association. But in reality anyone can stamp a C10 on a card, especially no-name brands.

Absolutely. AData are junk in my experience.
Kingston and SanDisc are the only ones that are reliable for all devices that I've owned. Others are hit and miss, PARTICULARLY Patriot. I've had 3 Patriot cards that were JUNK in most devices. I had two Patriot SD cards for a camera that were fine but couldn't work right in anything else, and I (stupidly) purchased an 8G uSD card a few years ago for a phone and it was junk there, and I've periodically tried it in new devices for giggles and it's been junk in every single one.
I'll bet a SanDisc C4 out classes any other brand C10 in device like a phone or tablet.
Side note: All 3 Patriot's work just fine on my computer. I did tests particuarlly on the 8G uSD over and over and over and it was fast and reliable in my card reader. Every device locks up or goes slow as hell if it's in 'em. My guess is that they didn't follow specs closely.
So a Sandisk Class 4, 8GB would be a good pick?

SD cards are a complicated topic... not to throw another wrench into the system but you also want to be careful WHERE you buy your card. SanDisk counterfeiting is RAMPANT since a vendor can take a blank card, less than a pennies worth of ink and then charge you some percentage of the SanDisk price while still reaping a huge profit. As unfortunate as it is, real SanDisk cards always seem to just work while the other cheaper cards can be hit or miss. Honestly though the only real problem with off brand cards and the NC I have had is that they don't always boot so good. So I use my SanDisk 8GB C2 (bought from Costco) to boot and my Patriot 16GB C10 to watch movies and store stuff. Buying from Retail, Newegg, or Amazon (Amazon itself, not a sold through vendor on Amazon) should help make sure whatever you buy is the real thing. Good Luck!
