I think Ireland is very poorly served where maps are concerned.
GPS in Ireland
Hello,
I know of 3 program's that you could use, as Ireland does have bad navigation software available.
The first is TomTom's Routeplanner of UK & Ireland, which I use (it is quite cheap) It has every back-road & town in the country, it does not re-route but it does have a scrolling map and shows you exactly where you are, and all you have to do is follow the shaded line and you know you are on the right track.
The second is www.Mapopolis.com. Dublin/Cork is very well covered down to every street. There are two versions available a navigation and an enhanced version (similar to the routeplanner). The country has limited coverage, but all National & and most regional roads are covered. The good news is that there is a demo version available to see (9 days worth)
The third is Destinator 3 (expensive) I know it does cover Ireland but to what extent I do not know, but the screen shot's in 3-D mode look great! Look at this link:
http://www.ietechsmart.com/gpsindex1.1.htm
They are based in Dublin and claim full coverage of Ireland. I have seen this advertised in the UK for approx €180+VAT see:
http://www.peripheralcorner.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/32_33_35_97/products_id/157
Look at the Destinator demo on:

Hope this helps
Andrew

Xdaere, please email me, I forgot all about the maps thing, I have the latest maps and the export tool from medion/navtech, all Ireland is there down to street level. You need WM2003 to run the program I think.
Forgot to say, it is also full voice navigation.
At last Ireland is covered?
Just found this from viamichelin's Mapsonic
They claim:
Countries covered: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Does anyone know where I can get the Destinator V3 software with North American maps for cheap? I just can't seem to justify paying retail price for it.... you can post or email me a response to [email protected]
Thanks,

That would be the SD-card version that cannot work on and HTC phones wihtout SD-Card slots without some fiddling. This one is specifically for HTC phones that DONT have a SD-card slot.
That app is free and is fully working with new HTCs ...you have to buy maps as I did..but I don't think that Garmin is good navigation soft I have it only because it's the only one which has good coverage of my country..
umm - this would be with the maps for my country aswell
I ask this because my phone was sourced from overseas (?europe, Northern Hemisphere) and I live in New Zealand (Southern Hemisphere). I have fairly crappy GPS performance and I am wondering if there would be a difference in the GPS setup between a phone from overseas and one purchased locally from New Zealand or Australia. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that the GPS setup has some country specificic options/optimization.
This would also have implication in those flashing their phones through odin.
I'd be interested in knowing this as well. I have a Samsung Captivate and performance is not the best it could be when it comes to GPS. I have had a good run using the Assonance 5.0 Rom though.
I have found as a local in Toronto their is only one good transit/ttc application. Out of the ones available they are overpriced and have a lack of content. Toronto Transit has free and paid versions, seems paid version gets updates more frequently. I recommend Toronto Transit for any toronto WP7 users out their who are looking for a transit application worth their time.
