iPaq adapter - MDA, XDA, 1010 Accessories

I was looking at your connecters page... nice stuff...
It occured to me that, armed with that knowledge, one could make an iPaq accessory to XDA adaptor. Does anyone know of a commercially available adaptor like this... if so.. what are the kind of devices one could use.... for instance, could one put a wifi or bluetooth adaptor on that and give the xda bluetooth or wifi?
thanks,
John

Ok... that looks perfect (i never was any good with a soldering iron ... shaky hands, etc).
So now... what kinda stuff can i connect with that thing...
Is there something super cool that i cannot live without?

iPAQ 3800/3900/5550etc to XDA II adaptor
G'day All,
Gomadic seem to do a great job on the iPAQ 3600 series to XDA adaptor - But has anyone seen one for current iPAQ 3800+ series to XDA that's pre-made??
I've bodgied up a temporary solution but it's pretty crude!
Thanks to those who contributed the connector data - It's a lifesaver

Wireless GPS for XDA

Hi All
Iwant a wireless GPS plug in for my XDA
Has anyone tried the Kane GPS system for XDA
view at GPSX URL
http://store.securehosting.com/stores/sh203370/shophome.php
It sounds too good to be true as it is wireless and has no bills.
A bit pricey though but worth it for me if it is wireless and does what it says on the tin
How does it compare with the other GPS XDA compatable devices
All Help appreciated
Cheers
Ric.
i don't believe that is wireless.. i think you are confused between the ads. i tried to investigate for similar products and could not find any. the ad fir the xda model doesn't show any wiring harness but it doesn't say its wireless. i bet they just left it out of the picture.
The only "wireless" systems are based on bluetooth as far as I know, if I were you I would get a cheap Haicom gps for 80 quid and then use a "copy" of tomtom which in my view is the best, the haicom comes with lead and charger plug and works a treat. If you are interested go to www.gpsw.co.uk, look for GPS smart antenna. The other option is at www.mobtech.co.uk they have a very good unit as well and comes with mapping software bundle for 86 quid plus vat and postage. The cable is not a great hindrance, just leave the gps in the dash until needed, the only other thing you will need is a car mount, you can pay silly money for these, but I have found that the cheaper ones work as well if not better, I got a fone holder from poundland that works fine, I have also used strong velcro, the harder stuff stuck to the dash and a piece of the fluffy side stuck to the rear of the XDA.

BEST KEYBOARD FOR XDA???

Thinking of buying a keyboard for my XDA to makle typing more convenient. Does anyone know of, or can strongly recommend any? I am currently considering the universal IR from Targus and one also by Belkin. Any comments, thoughts, experiences, suggestions and recommendations will be highly appreciated.
Hi,
I've tried the Belkin and was not impressed with it. The keyboard play wasn't the best and getting the IR to line up is a pain sometimes.
What I have found as the best solution is the older Targus Stowaway keyboard with the connector 191008-B26T from www.thesupplynet.com folks. The Targus has the best feel so far of the ones I've looked at and returned.
Software wise, don't use the Targus software, instead go to the thinkoutside.com web site and download the software from there.
It works perfectly with no hangup problems like when using the Targus software.
If you need any further info, send me an email to [email protected]

Hi all
I am not so fond of these IRDA keyboards. Your PDA tumbles easily . I think a better solution is the O2 XDA II Standard Keyboard with a special XDA II connector . I had a similar keyboard for my Siemens Loox PDA and used it without any problems on the train. This one was based on the Belkin G700.. a luxury version with Siemens Design. Super keyboard!

Since a week I made the transfer to a Orange M1000 and noticed Expansys has now a similar keyboard for the XDA II / QTEK 2020/M1000 . This is a Thinkoutside keyboard with a special XDA II connector
For me a real wanna have!

I've had good results with the BenQ G7B0, sold as a 'standard'
kbd by O2., and available from http://www.expansys-usa.com.
Incidentally, O2 told me I had to buy a new keyboard for the XDA II,
but that, as so much of O2's claims, was misinformation - the
kbd works for both.

I bought a STOWAWAY Universal Wireless IR Keyboard and after installing the driver it worked fine on my XDA I. But TomTom Navigator 5 wired GPS didn't work any more. It didn't see its GPS receiver anymore. Reason: both packages use the same beam and 32 Mb memory is not enough to use both packages. Removed the driver for the keyboard and my device is working correct again.

Anyone got an Acer Tempo M900?

hi
i might get an acer tempo m900 because i saw one on expansys.com for £189.99
Brand new!
I think its a bargain but i dont know if they are any good.
Anyone?
flyboy
All i can say is it's not a HTC
Device database has all you need spec wise http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1765&c=acer_m900___tempo__m900
If it was me spending nearly £200 i'd check the market place for a good condition Raphael
i dont like the raphel not big enough screen.
This Acer has got a 3.8" touch screen
Anyway i wouldnt pay over £100 for something second hand.
Anyone got an acer then?
I got the device last week actually. Its a brilliant device but its let down by its lack of ram, although this has not been a problem yet so don't be put off by that.
Theres also a problem with 3.5mm connectivity for headphones.
The screen is very big and nice and the fingerprint reader is a great novelty that has some use.
I would recommend getting it.
So does the acer have an 3.5mm headphone jack or is it usb?
Have you got any pics you can show me that you have taken with the camera?
thanks

The M900 is a superb machine. I strongly recommend it. It doesn't have a 3.5mm headset socket, though. The wired headset (with mic) is a 10-pin mini-B USB connector. It really doesn't bother me at all, because I seldom use it, since it is required to listen to the FM radio only, as it acts as an antenna. For MP3s and videos (i.e. for all the remaining - and most important - sound sources) I use my SE HBH-IS800 stereo BT headsets. Of course people's needs are quite different. So, if a 3.5mm connector is a must for you, you better consider buying something else.
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers!

does it use mini usb port to charge or does acer has it`s own special port for charging?

Yup! Although its mini-USB port is 10-pin, 5 of them are in the same position as the standard mini-USB. So, any mini-USB cable you might have would charge it (provided it has enough current (mAh), of course), as well as sync it.
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers!

Same opinion
what the htc community is offering is more than acer, but acer are doing ppcs that are the same thing but just cheaper.
Id be going for function and price rather than a specific model with ppcs.
And i wouldnt waste my money on a second hand diamond, tytn Ii, rapheal, prophet when for the same price i get more function, and less money spent
Just makes sense!!

[Q] Best Bluetooth Car Stereo

Hey fellow xda members just wondering if you guys had any opinions on Bluetooth stereos for cars. I'm getting a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wednesday and the radio is stock which is a cassette. I've always used my aux port but wanna be able to use something with a remote and no wires. I already have a universal dock for my Nexus and will also look at work to see what radios we have and what my discount is (Best Buy). Just want some suggestions on brands or specific units. I saw this one but still wanna look
here's mine
works perfectly with my NS, used with LiquidA1 too, it bridges any sound from the phone
sorry, page is in italian, maybe you'll find an english page :|

Fyi, Bluetooth ready sounds to me like it needs an attachment to work.
Sent from my Google.

Thanks man! Didn't even notice that
Update got one of these plus installation, cord, and dask kit for $207 with employee discount. I love it can make calls, see's my phonebook, usb port, remote, and auto connects to phone
Bump.
Any more recommendations for the bluetooth car stereo?

Anybody know of a good car cradle?

As per title really...
We have 40+ cars where I work that are just about to swap over to Desire C's from our old Orbit XDAII's and was wondering if anybody had any recommendation for car cradles. Priority would be robustness (our drivers are notoriously heavy handed with their tech) and preferably with the charger built in.
I don't seem to be able to find much online specifically for these units, just a lot of tatty looking universal stuff that's not really going to cut the mustard.
All suggestions gratefully received, thanks in advance good people of XDA
