screen protectors - MDA, XDA, 1010 Accessories

are they any particular screen protectors anyone can recommend over others?
ebay is loaded with them about £4.99 a pop and seem to be split in to the following makes,
Coolwrite
Brando
Ecfilm
PDair
does anyone have a preference and why is it your screen protector of choice. Ideally I'd like one that can be cleaned and reused rather than the disposable type.

I am using the Brando Screen Protector. Although it was pretty expensive, it works perfectly and is worth the money, as it seems to be very long lasting.
I've read comments of users who have been using it to 1 1/2 years, so it seems to be worth the money...

I use the WriteShields from PPCTechs (available at expansys) for a pack of 3. They are great I used one for most of the time I had my XDA I and put the same type on my XDA II immediately it arrived.
I particualrly like these as they are matt, rather than some I've seen which are gloss. This gives the benefit that sunlight diffuses when it hits it and so I don't get bad glare type reflections.
They aren't cheap but they are good.

I never realised that buying a screen protector could be so fraught with choices.
I think I'm leaning more towards the adhesive style and the Ecfilms seems to get a good write up in two places.
http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/ec-pda-screen-protector-review.html
http://www.spug.net/reviews/recfilm.htm
I like the idea of a very low tack adhesive so I don't get much in the way of gunk on the screen.
anyone care to give an opinion on this make at all?

Anyone using a diamond without a screen protector

Hi I was just wondering how many people are using their diamond with out a screen protector. I have been using the invisi shield but it's starting to peel and look pretty messy. I don't really want to have to carry it round in the htc pouch they give you.
So how many folks just stick it in their pocket and have they found the screen scratches easily?
Cheers
I'm currently using a special TPU case from CAPDASE, unlike all the other silicone cases on the market, I'd say this has to be the best quality non-leather case out there. It comes in two colors, black or silver/white. In real life it looks a lot better than in pictures. I'm also using their mat finish screen protector.
The picture is from Google.
Me
No screen protector and no worries
my original screen protector wore off and i'm going to get a new set ASAP. it's not very wise to be using the phone without one IMHO
sorry, double post
I'm not using any screen protector either (have had it for 7 months now) and so far no problems. There are a few very little scratches here and there but they are not noticeable and it doesn't bother me.
edit: just cleaned well the screen to double check and there is only one small scratch near the camera on the top right corner, but it's only visible under a certain angle and with the light reflecting on the screen. So, the Diamond's screen is ****ing resistant!
I'm using one from MArtin Field. They are highly recommended as I have purchased many of their protectors and they are very very high quality
i dont use protector and my screen is full of hairline scratches and it also has 3 reallly deep scratches
i dont care

That's not the one I got, I'm just using the regular mat one, it's not a privacy screen protector. I can't find the exact shopping link, but the package looks like this, except the one in the link isn't mat. This screen guard comes in two types, clear or mat finish.
http://www.yesasia.com/us/capdase-p...amond-pda-phone/1011133846-0-0-0-en/info.html
EDIT: The mat one has the word "Excellent" instead of "Crystal Clear" on the package, it comes with a tiny cloth too, see attachment pictures.
It's not just scratches to consider, I have had mine for a week and I just put a screen protector on when it arrived in the mail and it doesn't attract nearly as many fingerprints and smudges, I was wiping the screen constantly before I put it on but I just sent several messages with my fingers and there's hardly a print on the protector.
i used to have a screen protector on it (the one supplied) but the corner started peeling off then i got annoyed with it... so there is now no protector on it. its been like it for about 6 months. its been kept in my pocket (with nothing else) and has only collected a couple of small scratches, which would probably come out with acrylic polish.
I didn't use a screen protector and regretted it as I picked up a fine collection of scratches. This reduces the resale value of the phone and alos on a screen with such a high dpi scrthes make a big difference.
However The screen also cracked seperatley, so it's off for an insurance job, after which it will be behind a screen protector/slip case.
I used the origonal one for 6 months and it was ok till the end. Replaced it with a cheap one from Ebay and after a few weeks it has bad scratches on it.
Next time i am going to replace it with an expencive one.
At first when I bought my diamond I used the invisible shield. Took the screen part of the shield off immediately because it felt to rubbery. I have been with no screen protector since and I have some hairline scratches, but they really don't bother me. When the screen is turned on they are unnoticeable. The truth is by the time the scratches start bothering me it's a great excuse to buy a new phone anyways( even though I really love my Diamond).
Nice one cheers people. Think i'll probably replace my invisi shield it does work really well it's just a shame it's peeled at the edges. It just makes the phone look messy.
Shame they didn't make it with a really durable scratch proof screen.
Cheers
I can't do that to my phone , i have sweaty palms most of the time

No scratch!!!!

They work pretty well actually..... as good as the one that came with the phone~!

Anti-glare anti-fingerprint screen protector

I picked up a 3 pack of these:
http://www.handhelditems.com/samsun...atte-finishing-screen-protector-p-151910.html
So far it's really nice - easy to apply without bubbles, cut out for webcam/light sensor, and a nice anti-glare finish with a good texture to it.
-Dan
Thanks for the link Dan. These look nice and good price too.
Do you notice if they add any delay or stutter to the touch sensitive actions (scrolling, typing, etc)?
It's been awhile since I've used a screen protector, but fingerprints just seem so much more visible on the Tab.

Great find man. Just ordered one myself.
most important info for me would be how "tacky" it feels. I just love the smooth gliding that occurs with the naked glass and have yet to find a screen protector even half as smooth. Who knows, maybe I just have spiderman hands.
Ordered one too. I hope they go on with static vs. wet....

Awesome find! A quick check on retailmenot.com found a coupon code galaxytab20 for 20% off these. Site says this code was supposed to have expired on 11/30, but I am still seeing the discount right now. They have a good deal on both the clear and matte, so picking up a 3 pack of each.
The coupon knocks off the shipping costs pretty much, bringing the total to just under $18. Not bad for six sheets, if you ask me. T-mo sells ONE for $15, haha.
My only problem is fingerprints.
Tell me, does any of these screen protectors really, really work?
I'm very skeptic.
Nice find on the coupon code stefvan2k1!
The feel on these is nice.. I feel that there's less drag with the slight texture on these than on the glass alone (maybe it's just my most hands )
There's definitely a reduction in finger prints with one of these on, I was wiping my screen constantly before and hardly do now.

I just order 12 non-glare ones and 2 silicone cases. I have the expensive anti-glare protector that I got at T-Mobile and AT&T (Casemate) and the non-glare is awesome, I hardly ever wipe the screen the screen.
Thank for the coupon code!
Holy ****, they want $20 to ship a 3-pack from California to Vancouver Canada via USPS. To put that in context, Phantomskinz charged me $2.75 to ship a similar sized full body appliqué from Phoenix. Or to further put it in perspective, Zenus charged me less to ship my Color Edge case, from freaking Korea.
They ain't getting my business, they're running the old "shipping charge for profit" scam.
i got 3 anti-glare and 3 clear from ebay for $7 shipped for each set

the anti-glare is ok but i've had a anti glare on my ipad since the beginning and the tab looks amazing with it being clear. Good thing to buy extra since it is annoying when dust or any thing get on the tab while installing and tape and patience isn't enough lol
alignment on the top and bottoms aren't perfect but if u eye it right you can give enough spacing on each side at least the corners are round and not jagged and with a gel case on the back that wraps to the front, it covers up the extra 2mm or less that the protector doesn't fully cover.
all in all for the price well worth it.
I would like to try these.... but I am picky about my protectors and cases... I assume they are decent? The low price scares me, hahaha.... so that being said, if I am going to order that case and screen protectors....
I might get something for my samsung focus off that site also? Any suggestions for the same combo but smaller?
The Galaxy Tab screen is Gorilla Glass, do you really need a screen protector? I imagine any force that would scratch or chip GG is going to tear a plastic screen protector.

Can't believe AT&T dares selling theirs at $29..........
Gorilla Glass can be scratched. Some people have attested to that. BEcause it isnt indestructable, I prefer to use a protector. I got an Amzer protector from Anazon that is truly anti glare and def leaves no prints... but I will admit I prefer the feel and clarity of glass
I got my Galaxy Tab with SGP Ultra Oleophobic Clear type screen protector.
I didn't go for those anti-glare/finger print MATTE type protector, because to me they actually degrading
the screen sharpness, brightness and also color quality, which also mean degrading your overall
viewing pleasure that not only on Galalxy Tab but also on any devices.
Tested matte protector before on my old cellphones in the past years, they only making me frustrate,
low on mood or feeling regrets whenever I used my cellphones to watch video, pictures and even on phone idling screen.
You know, just like the LED/LCD or Plasma TV nowaday they're all on glossy surface which reproduces great sharpness, color and brightness.
All in all glossy surface = Great screen/picture/video quality.
Fingerprint, oily screen? Not a problem to me. Just wipe it more often.
It is still much better than keep felling frustrate with low screen quality everytime.
Thanks for the link. Just got my galaxy tab today and already have lots of fingerprints and see glare as an issue. I also think the slightly textured, antiglare films are better to the touch but sometimes degrade the screens sharpness a bit. I think it's worth the tradeoff though.
Oh and the coupon code galaxytab20 also worked for me. I paid 13.94 for a 3 pack with 3-5 day shipping.

What screen protector should I choose?

Last time i bought the HD2 silicon case with the two screen protector worthed about 5 dollars on eBay. Then soon i found the problem was that the bot screen protectors wont fully stick on the screen (bubbles everywhere) even though i spent lots time to get rid of the bubbles, but they are totally unqualified product..
And now i am looking for the better screen protectors, just searched on ebay and hundreds of the results coming out and i am wondering which one would fully stick on the screen without bubbles. Can anybody recommend some good screen protectors? Thanks
I highly recommend Realook from Amazon. They are dry install covers and if put on properly show almost no bubbles. The reason I like these the best is that they feel most like the actual glass of any that I tried. The rest are more rubbery and dont allow your finger to glide across the screen as well as these do. This particular one covers the bottom under the buttons so there is a slight bit of lifting on the lower corner. This is covered up by my case anyway so it's no bother.

make sure you get the right one for EU or TMO version.
I don't use any screen protector. I have used one for 1 yr but it degenerates the quality of the screen. Besides, the screen itself is pretty good in preventing scratches.

done. good idea.
I'm in the no Screen protector camp, owned the phone for 14 montys and not a scratch on the screen, a soft or hard case is fine if you are worried or careless
I Use Martin Sheilds screen protector. I have stuck to this because of durability and feel. Plus side is you cant even tell you have one on
i bought the stock T-mobile branded ones the day i bought my phone. there were 2 in the pack, and im on the last one. i really like the slightly hazy anti glare that it provides. i recommend those ones, but does anyone know of any that are just as good, but dont cost as much? i had the first one off after it wore out after 6 months, but IMHO, the bare glass is just too shiny and reflects everything outside in my experiance, so i put the second one on.

These are the best. I've had invisible shield, phantom skinz, body glove. They all suck compared to the tmobile one. They last forever. Had mine on for 8 months and its still looks new.

Screen protector, yes or not?

I have the device for some time now, I clean the screen when it dirty, and when not used, it either docked in it's dock for charge, or stored in my SENA leather pouch, is there still any need for a screen protector? I do baby my devices, I have some old SE K800, that now my mom use, and except some very little scratches, on the screen (it actually made of glass with some nice layer of anti reflect ), it looks like new, I don't put my devices in pockets of my jeans or so, as I always go around with a backpack with all my stuff, be the smartphone in separate pocket.
I read some thread around the net, from what I understood, there a couple types of screen protectors:
dry or wet installation, and glare or anti glare, some has oleophobic layer, there even a glass protector to protect the glass to protect the glas LOL.
I do like how anti glare once, look indoors, and outdoors, but as for the quality of the display quality, it not worth it, you have an HD resolution display, even though it's a PenTile type, it still on paper has HD resolution, anti glare just make it look so bad, I don't know how the more pricey ones, work with it, but if I compare it to my 24" IPS DELL computer display, it's difference of day and night (and in negative form, DELL is much better), so yes I do hate the glare, it much easier to read from matte display, but it the manufacturer thought it need to be glare, and there no option to choose matte or glare (like you have in let say, laptops), I don't know how you guys like anti glare screen protectors.
Then there the standard screen protector we all know, the problem is, they just don't feel like the sleek cool glass, it harder to swipe, and play games with them, I know it's not Gorilla glass, but I just hate to buy a device for resale value, I like all about it, and I don't have the money to replace device every then and now, also I don't run after the newest and best devices at all, when I understood I need a NEXUS, then all I buy is NEXUS, just for the NEXUS experience, and thats basicly all I care about, not that much about the specs, as I don't have so much of a choice, because it's NEXUS.
Also, I just hate dry installation screen protectors, and the one, that we have for the device, not cover all the screen, because it curved, so I maybe consider, a wet installation protector, but then again, they from what I seed, has a weird orange peel feel, and they not feel like the glass, at all, so I just don't know, do I need or don't ? I just like to feel the device, like it is, actually I use the SENA pouch, because I use the dock to charge the device, and don't want to wear the USB port, and that the best and only choice, that feel and looks nice, and protect the device very well, also the screen. as it inside made of soft velvet material, and also, I just can't use any other type of case, as I need it be easily removed from the device, when I need a charge, if I did..the case would wear and tear very fast, and get scratched, and what not.
Thoughts?
tl;dr summary: Do I need a screen protector? and with one?
But what about screen protector? As been said I do have SANA made sleeve, but do I really need to add a screen protector?
I think I want to try a wet install, but don't want to shell much $$$, what the options ?
Needs a tl;dr summary.
I would say don't bother with a screen protector. None of them offer the clarity or the feel of the bare glass.
I've had my n7 since launch and use it for looking at things while working on my car and it's still in perfect condition.
I've only recently put an anti glare one on since it's mostly being used as the head unit in my car. Helps with glare and finger prints but the display quality really suffers.
That the whole point, it just not the same feeling, I know there there a glass screen protectors, but they just destroy the design, and they cost $$$, I may do resell my devices, but not the near future, I mainly want the NEXUS experience, only when Google drop update support, then I may think to sell them, I can't kind of stop thinking of it, but come to conclusion, that I want a clear oleophobic screen protector, are those 10 for 5$ and so from eBay, any good? also they need to be changed from time to time, so better to buy a pack. Why manufacturers actually make the devices with glare screen? I mean, for example, in some notebooks you have TN panel, and then when it used with glare type layer, it kind of shows better colours, and brightness, but with AMOLED, IPS displays? what the point ? the only thing I can think of is, they used with touch panel, and like many things touch, being this a mouse trackpad from glass or plastic, or again touch panels, they can't be made sleek enough to work with, and they have to be made with glare finish, on other hand, old WM devices was all matte finish from what I remember, but they was recitative.
Matte screen protector will be better especially for gaming, though I removed mine because it is culprit of the screen flicker that I've been annoyed for when I got my nexus. Happy using it without protector, you'll appreciate better the quality.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
matte screen protectors makes swiping so much smoother but I have yet to find one that doesn't degrade the quality of the screen. dry clear protectors are much closer to the glass feel but they do also get a lot of fingerprints. Ive also tried wet install and the screen feels a bit rubbery, very different feel from the glass.
I have seen a video in the internet where they dropped two iPhones, one with screen protector and one without. The one with protector didn't cracked the glass so I guess screen protectors are very cheap investment that can add extra protection to our device, especially I've seen lots of accounts that cracked their nexus 7 after accidentally dropping them. It's possible that the video is not applicable to nexus 7 since they are bigger but still, I don't want to take any chances
I ordered 3 Xtremeguard in the end, the price is good, and most agree that for the price, they worth it..will se how it will out, but again, you say even that I use it at home, and the screen is protected, when not in use, there still a need of screen protector?
I don't use one. I like to just have the official Nexus 7 case with the flip cover. It keeps the screen safe when I'm not using it.

The best screen protector experience i had was with a ghost armor in my atrix. I had to peel it off because sand got under one corner in the beach, but it lasted 1yr and a few months with no problem. Reeeally finger friendly, not sticky at all, i could swipe better with the protector than with the bare glass and very flexible. I would get it for the nexus if i were in usa again.

With the Nexus 7 that I use in a thin hard case most of the time, I prefer for the screen to be more naked. Since half the time exposure to it's surface is going to be minimized. (That and large 'decent' protectors are expensive).
Where as on my Nexus 4, at the very least I put an invisible shield on the front. Can opt for either the HD for clarity/glass-like, or the older "military grade" one if you prefer the more 'rubber' feel to it (And also seems to sort of dissipate the fingerprint effect). Only because I would be using my phone more, and more likely used with one hand or constantly taking in and out of my pocket.
It's a personal choice. I just prefer the invisible shield because it's one of the few that you can pay 20-30 (for phone size) for, that seems to keep it's quality and place on the phone for nearly 2 years if not more (ie: you'll probably upgrade your phone before you replace that screen).

Tempered glass and cases

Has anyone found a pretty decent case/tempered glass for this device as of yet (Any budget)
Pictures are awesome if provided, would love to see what our community had found so far. (I can't seem to find one that fully seals the entire screen instead or simply the edges)
All tempered screen protectors that have come out so far appear to completely suck. They've all been the type with only a thin strip of adhesive along the edges, thus making them come off really easily. I sincerely hope a good one comes out soon. If one doesn't in the next month or so, I might just get one of the crappy ones, but purchase the overpriced ($30-40) version from the T-Mobile store. They will replace it for free everytime you come in. This would definitely save money and frustration in the long run over repeatedly purchasing the cheaper ones.
I ordered the Ringke Fusion-X case, but they only became available a day ago, so it only arrived today. I'll update with a short review when I get home from work. I've had one for another device, though, and really liked it. In the mean time, I've been using this $5 clear TPU case, which is exactly what one would expect if they've ever had one before. I will note that the buttons are a bit difficult to press, but otherwise it's perfectly fine. I chose this one over the other similar ones because of the slightly thicker bumpers on the corners.
I'm debating getting one of the Otterbox cases, but I'd really like to see one in person first, so that I can evaluate the bulkiness of it before dropping $60. I've always used/preferred lighter-weight cases, but then again I've never before had a $930 phone.
Update: I initially forgot to report back with my Ringke Fusion-X mini- review. It is a phenomenal case. It looks very good, and being able to see the back of the phone through the 100% clear back is nice. The somewhat thick rubbery-ish edges offer a great deal of protection without excessive bulk. If my previous experiences with similarly styled Ringke cases are and indicator, it will greatly increase the chances that drops will damage the phone. It also feels very great in the hand, and provides very good grip. Also, the buttons feel VERY good, even to the point of being nicer to press that the phone's buttons are without a case at all.
Although it would certainly be even more protective, it's unlikely I will end up ordering the Otterbox, as I feel confident the Ringke will adequately protect my phone given my usual degree of phone violence.
I can't speak to screen protectors but I had picked up the Spigen Rugged Armor case and it is excellent.
All of the screen protectors have been garbage thus far. As mentioned, you either get stuck with the black ring around the edges, thus losing screen space or bubbles because they dont adhere to the curved edges. Tried two brands and bot were a waste.
The cases all seem to be more or less the same. At least the TPU ones anyways. Tons for $5-10 and no major advantages I can see. Otterbox says no screen protector so you enjoy the display more. Code for we dont wanna make one that works well. YMMV though.
I've read that the one T-Mobile sells is pretty decent (if expensive). The reddit user who posted about it said hr believed it had the full adhesive, rather than just around the edges like the others I've seen, so that should help it not come off as easily. I'm probably going to get one today if they have them in stock. Also, a nice thing about getting one from them, which may justify the price, is that they will replace it for free whenever necessary.

Which one? There are two, one with the black border and one without. I ordered both but have only tried the one with the black border. Fit was nice but touch sensitivity sucks. Didn't seem like it adhered well. Had rainbow affect in the middle.
If anyone finds a glass protector without the stupid notch and covers the camera lenses please post here. I want full coverage like my V10 had. Didn't seem to affect the cameras at all. I want one that just has a hole for the speaker. A rear cover and camera lens protection would be nice as well.
