Hi guys, this happend today. My vario III suddenly can't find the memory card and my pc won't open it when I use card reader as well. All I can think of is I was using the card to transfer data between PCs yesterday several times and my PC won't read it at alst, but it worked ok with my Vario II(kaiser).
Help Please! How can I bring my card back??
Sorry, forget to mention that it a 8G Sandisk card.
I just posted the same problem and I also have a 8 GB from sandisk.
try to use the original SD card, see what happens..
My kaiser couldn't find it either..
I already contacted HTC customer service (an hour ago)
..
Edit:
I have a dutch T-Mobile MDA Vario with the original firmware.
Also a hard-reset doesnt help.
thanks a lot. I am waiting for your reply.
Hi
I had encountered similar problem before. My 8GB card was not detectable in my TytnII and shows empty in my laptop.
What I did is use the freeware program ""PC Inspector File Recovery" to recover all the loss files. What I believe is that the file table or something like that is corrupt but all files are still in card. DO NOT copy new files to the card if you intend to recover files from your card.
Thanks very much, I will give it a try now. keep finger crossed.
How does that happen? any ideas?
I have made a poll to see how many Kaisers have the same problem.

Cheap 8GB microSD cards usually are not true SDHC. They are a 4GB card reformatted to 8GB so the directory shows up that capacity but no data can be loaded to the extent of its capacity.
Buy another one, this time from a trusted seller and move on.
For the record, the card I got is original sandisk card.
Actually it happened once before for my 2GB sandisk card on hw6515. Am not sure if the corruption got anything to do with activesync as there there is no way to remove the sync other than directly unpluging the set from the laptop.
Unlike thumbdrive where we can select the option of removing thumbdrive.

How do you explain that my Kaiser also didn't read the original SD card? What do you advise as being a 'trusted seller'? The Sd card was cheap indeed..

Hi guys, I tried PC Inspector File Recovery and got the data I wanted back(there was 5~6 G on it but I only needed 2 M). My card come with N95 old version from O2 in UK, so I think it is a genuine branded sandisk card. After retrieving the data I tried to format my card and my PC allowed me to do that(it was impossible before I use PC Inspector), but after 5 mins it told me that windows can not format the card.
Anyway, I got the data back although the card is still dead.
Thanks a lot guys!
My 8G card would cost 50 pounds+ in the high street shops, don't understand why you guys say it's cheap....

Worst yet, you got a fake 8GB with the cost of a good one.
Why did you not try to get a replacement? High street shops will exchange it easily.

Sorry, but as I mentioned before it came with N95 from a big phone company in UK called 'O2' . I don't think they will sell fake Micro SD cards.....
Have a card that is readable/writable/formattable on PC but does not even show up on the HTC. Any ideas?
bump
bumping thread because I am having the same issue. Few days ago my card slot died, tried many cards which all work on pc but dont come up on my tilt. I noticed theres a change in ram .03mb when I insert the card but if i go to storage memory in settings it will state not installed. Also inserting the card would bring the phone out of standby. I am guessing its a hardware issue and that theres a different switch or something that tells the phone that a card is in which is why it comes out of standby but the part that actually reads the card doesnt work, probably a loose wire or something. Can anyone post who has experience taking the kaiser apart, I am a hands on guy who wouldn't mind taking it apart to see what could be the problem.
p.s I also flashed roms/radios since this issue and that did not resolve it.
Wow. I'm also bumping because I have this same problem! Borys hit the nail on the head.
I've discovered the Kaiser is very intolerant of FAT filesystems with issues. I've had mine twice see the card, but no contents, even though it looked fine on my laptop.
I ran a filesystem check on it and both times it found some minor errors, and then it was fine.
No need for any special utilities, just run a disk check in Windows, fsck.vfat in Linux, etc..

Ah! Same here. I'm going to revive this thread since I'm having the same problem. I ran disk check, but it still wont work I'm trying to do a recovery for the files right now.
Hi everyone
That's my first post! I've been hanging around here withwout becomming user so long...till now.
I have just bought an sdhc card ( dont know the class ) and it's working EXTREMELY SLOWWWW on my Kaiser TyTN II (htc) when I mean slow, i mean below usb1.0
I'm using Card Export II, compatibility with Hermes devices, and when writing a single mp3 through, ~6mb it takes 5 minutes. Transfer rate is below usb 1, and that was weird, so i've checked to transfer ~6mb to anotrher microSD card (256mb old card from old phone, nokia brand) and the song was copied pretty fast, reaching usb 1.0. bitrate
Imagine to copy a 400~mb film on my new card, even i can't copy mp3 ...to slow...ah, almost i forgot it, the new card, kingston sdHC with it's HC pc card reader works exellent, usb2.0.
How that can be possible? an old card is working at least 4fold times faster!!! than my new Kingston sdHC 4gb.
Any idea?
Really appreciate.
Any idea about that?
Someone is using a Kaiser II with Card Export II? having reeeaaaly slow data rate¿
thanks
As you know, the Kaiser only supports USB 1.1 and thus (s)low speeds.
First of all, disable the Hermes workaround option. Activating the option reduced my transfer speed by half (approx.).
For large files, just use an external USB 2.0 card reader.
In the past I have done a test to get an idea of the different transfer speeds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392941 (post 9)
Just wondering: which ROM are you using and which class has your SDHC card? (Me: -G-'s DK.10 series - WM6.1 & SDHC Class 4)
As to why your transfer rates are so low, I have no idea...
Hi!
Mhhh it could be the rom....i've even tried tweaking registry parameters (increase sd bloc size, etc) with no significant success on writing speed.
I've got and kingston 4gb sdhc class 4, rom WM6 prof compilation 18125.0.4.2
I had this problem with a Kingston 8GB Class 4. I tried tweaks and other roms, no luck. I ended up exchaning the card for another one that was exatly the same, and it completely solved my problem. I think a bad one gets in the batch from time to time. It took like 2 minutes to transfer 500kb. Granted, it takes a long time to transfer files anyways, but not that bad.
I've heard this from other people as well. However,

if not mistaken, i think i've read somewhere stating that kaiser max spped is usb1.1 and class2 for sdhc (hardware limitation)
well
I jave update the rom....to hyperdragon III and things got worse....
Now, can't even connect with pc via Card Export....and the worst of all, my gps got ruined.
More than 45minutes to catch gps signal
Before flashing, with the original rom i got satellite inside home, now...now not even outside....
Gps is now spoiled.
I've used [13 January 2009] HyperDragon III Raphael OS 5.2.21009 Build 20931.1.5.0
Now i should fix the gps...any idea¿? reflashing the rom would be painful.
Thanks
The fastest transfer rate I have found was via a ftp server on the kaiser. Its called Mocha Ftp Server. Works via wifi
Hope this helps
P.S.
I dont think HDIII comes with a radio. Maybe you are using an incompatible one. Look at the list on his page and download a matching radio for WM6.1 ( as this 100% will cause issues with any radio function including GPS )
It's not only a hardware thing.. I am using an sdhc 8 gig from sandisk, and just reading/writing to it is slow (even w/ an external reader as oppossed to the one in my comp)....
I guess it's like trading off mileage for speed in a car though.............. I dunno, I'm about ready to chuck mine, good thing it only cost me 29 bucks.
I hope you guys can help me with the following problem.
I have bought a 16gb MicroSD card (it says it's class 4) from eBay. I copied the files from my old 8gb card to my PC and from there copied the files onto the 16gb card (I put it in an SD adapter and into a USB-stick/adapter and plugged it into a USB port on my computer).
The copying seemed to go well. But when I put the card in my HD2 it can't find the files it's supposed to find. When I put the card back in the USB stick most of the files are replaced by one with a strange code, so all the files I had copied seem to be gone.
I checked if the card was actually 16gb and it was.
Any suggestions for what might cause this problem?

Two possibilities.
1: "most of the files are replaced by one with a strange code" = You're in the Matrix, agents are coming, RUN
2: You have a dodgy card or a dodgy card adapter.
Format the card, copy files one at a time via active sync. If that doesn't work it's a dodgy card.
i don't want to open another topic... i'm about to buy a 16gb card... what should i look for?... i want something to sustain long video shots... that's why i go 16gb...
so... anyone has a recomandation as in brand or technical details....?
Hi
In my experience when you copy files to any memory stick or card and they become garbage text and can not be found by your device or pc it means it is a fake card and not the stated size. SEND IT BACK !!!
If its cheap its bound to be fake!!
There is a tool online to test memory cards and usb flash drive to prove if they are fake and can hold the amount of data stated.

Hi, that's what I thought at first, but I used such a tool (I may haven't used it the right way though, should check this out again) and it said it actually is 16 gb. If it keeps giving errors it may be fake, I knew the risk when buying the card (it was cheap, but didn't buy it with Buy It Now, just by bidding). We'll seee what happens, if it keeps giving the errors, I may wait until the 32gb is released.
Ok, I've tested the card and it turns out it's defective. So I'm going to ask for a refund. New and more trustworthy 16 gb card already ordered (still a bit cheaper than the soon-to-arrive 32 gb ).
Hello there,
me again, i fear i do not have much luck with my note....
this happened to me with 2 different 32 GB sd cards (same type though) now. First time i thought the card itself was the problem, but now i doubt it.
When i first inserted the card, everything was fine, i copied several gb of music on it without problem, could access al files from phone and via Windows.
Played some files with MortPlayer the other day, and after the next restart of the device (had to shutdown for flight) it suddenly complained that i had removed the card while the system was running.
This does not happen at all with my old 8 GB sd, though, it's running fine whatever i do.
Cannot access the card anymore from phone, camera or PC (Win7 x64).
Runnning german stock rom ICS 4.0.3 rooted on the phone.
Did this ever happen to anyone else and/or is there i way to get that card running again? It does not show up under Windows at all anymore, not even as unformatted or so.
Any help or hints appreciated, thanks in advance.
Try paragon partition manager to format the sd card then see if it works if it does reformat on the phone. I read somewhere that you could format to ntfs and back to fat 32 to get it recognised
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
thanks for the quick answer.
the problem is (don't have paragon where i am atm, but tried with Acronis Disk Director & HP USB Repair Tool and i guess it would be the same with paragon?) that i simply cannot see the device anymore via such tools, same is for the windows disk/storage management.
So reformatting it seems not to be an option here, was more or less hoping that someone knows another "trick" how to get the thing back to life - and of course a reason why my Note might have "destroyed" the 2 cards.
did you buy these SD cards new ? if so was the seller a reputable one ? there are a lot of fake / dodgy Sd cards on the market nowadays
Do you use a card reader via a usb port ? if so try a different port, like one on the back, direct to the PC's motherboard, finally if that fails, try someone else's PC.
If all the above fail I guess the SD is completely dead. I dont know how the Note could have caused this unless the card was a fake, People are using 64GB SD's with no issues at all.
both were brand new cards, bought directly from Amazon.
Could of course be possible that they both were from a bad batch... Gonna ask amazon if there have been any issues with that product so far, could not find bad ratings for it though when i checked.
I'll try to get hands hands on another cardreader, left for vacations yesterday and just have my Netbook with internal USB based card reader, the Galaxy Note and a Nikon D7000 with me, which all do not recognize it, but the backup 8 gb sd card .
thanks for your time
S.
Amazon are friendly, If you havent had the cards long just explain to them the situation and im sure they will refund / replace.
You could be right about a 'bad batch' unfortunately with all the technology we have, it still happens
Hope you get it sorted :good: keep us posted !!!
Samsung NOTE - dead 32gb SD card
first - apologies - I am not an XDA developer (I am a retired architect... and a noob)
This thread came up when I searched "Samsung note destroys SD card". I will simply report my experience in the hope that others may find it useful.
I get a Samsung NOTE G-N7000 in late August & buy a 32Gb SD card from amazon (specifically getting a Samsung one to avoid any incompatibility)
I load about 7gb of music tracks onto it from my PC; it works perfectly& gives me good quality music playback until a week ago; then all playback form the card becomes impossible with an "unrecognised file type" message. I format the card in the phone. I dismount it. I slot itn to my PC, where "my computer" says that it has zero gb capacity, & will not format it. I mount it in my old Blackberry Curve which says it has 29.2 gb capacity - I format it - & the curve says it now has 1.2 gb capacity. The PC still says it has no capacity.
The only possible cause I cant hink of it is that I seem to remember there had just been an Android software uprgrade (to 4..0.3.?)
I find Samsung phone help, ring them, and get very badly run around - several times I am given a phone number for "Samsung SD cards" which is actually the UK "Orange" help number. I have rung three or four numbers at least threet imes each before I get through to Samsung SD cards help. They ask for photos of both sides of the micro SD card - having (I presume) established that it is a genuine Samsung product they e-mail me a product return form & code.
I have sent the card off to Florijn in the Netherlands.... I am not holding my breath.
It has not been a good week for memory...
- Outlook Express started to compact messages as the computer was closing down (so I have no e-mails before 15th Nov 2012)
- this SD card died on me
- & I forgot to go to a folk music dinner &music session that I had booked a week previously
I begin th think alzheimers might be a welcome release....
Your "watch this noob" video... perhaps one of the funniest videos I have seen for a while ... and certainly the most annoying... andyou expect "thanks"?
Well thats something really unusual. Because i am using my note for a year now and bought a 16 gb card with it. I onky encountered 3 errors where my n7000 stopped Reading the memory saying bad memory and what i did was to take it out of the slot and then reinsert it again and It worked fine.
The only advice i give to everyone. Dont plug ur phone to the pc or any other device always keep ur phone wireless with other devices so thst the malware cant replicate to ur storage. I use kies air or bluetooth exchange in cases there is large data i cooy it to the usb and then plug that usb to my phone and it works ok.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Tried to download some files but I had to download it to phone's internal memory and then move it to sd card, since the phone doesn't allow to write to sd card.
and another problem, I bought an sdxc 64gb sd card. there's another way to transfer files from my pc to sd card in fast speed? should be like 40+ mb/s and it's transfering files around 4 mb/s, guess it's the lack of usb 3.0 port on the phone.
any faster way other than buying a usb 3.0 card reader?
airdroid and another wireless methods didn't work for me.
Thank you guys.
You're limited to what the phones USB controller allows you to communicate with it, and I suppose it used MTP anyway which is utter crap and slow.
As for downloading directly to SD card, it's impossible because Google put SD-card access limitations in it since KitKat. No worries however since Android L should re-enable those permissions again. (Apps now can only save in their own specific directory on the SD card in /sdcard1/Android/data/com.vendor.appname, so you better wait a while. If you absolutely need to move things between your SD card and internal memory to your own folders, the built-in File Commander has permissions to access your SD card fully.
You can d load files directly to your SD Card.
Settings> Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity> Wireless Media Transfer
You'll probably need to install the PC Companion software, and make sure that your screen time-out/stamina is off while it pairs for the first time, but then you can d/load files to your SD card.

tried that, it gets stuck and if I unplug the phone it says something about firewall and upnp, tried to disable the firewall and still the same.
No, it doesn't stick, it just takes a *very long time* to pair (once it is, it's fine) and you MUST make sure your display doesn't time out or Stamina mode kick in during the process

Another question, sorry for quoting you.
Tried to transfer some music, movies and tv series to the sd card. With teracopy everything seems ok.
After disconnecting the phone from pc either the music won't show or the movies, or tv series.
Befor I unplug the phone all the files appear but after I'm unplugging the phone it won't show the files on yhe phone and on the pc either.
Could it be a damaged sd card or it may cause by using exfat format? Couldn't find a way to format into fat32 format.
Any suggestions?
Are you sure the apps you are using to play/view let you into the SD Card?
I have several thousand songs and some movies on my SD Card and they are viewable from my apps.
The best way to format your SD Card would be from the phone itself if you want to guarantee the phone recognising the contents. I believe you use Settings > Storage > Erase SD card (My understanding is that it will format the SDCard too) write speed will be determined by the SD Card too, is it a high speed card? I also find that if you try and write multiple files, it slows down everything hugely, so I tend to do files singly (in the case of movies) and in smallish batches if music.
If you're using wi-fi, the speed of the network/distance from the router will play a part too

The item has been removed from ebay so here is some details but not the model number
64GB SanDisk Extreme Micro SDXC Memory Card Class 10 - 45MB/s UHS-I U1
Formatting it through the phone makes it exfat.
And yes I'm sure it's the external sd card.
But how is it possible that the sd card is full, I unplug it and plug it again and the folders are there but they are empty, plus no matter what is the size of the files that I transfer I have like 4-6 free gb's, there should be like 40 free gb's after the size of the files that I transferred.
You should consider that perhaps you got a cheap copy card and it's not working at the speed it should be, there are card speed apps on Android Market that should be able to tell you how fast its working. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a1dev.sdbench&hl=en

Yes, it's a fake for sure.
About 2-3 mb/s reand and write.
Since the item removed from ebay I can't open a dispute. Hope PayPal will refund me.
If nothing else, at least we've worked out the problem
Not sure if this was already solved.
If you go on Camera, Settings, "Data Storage" change to SD Card.
Erasing the SD card from the phone seems to work more efficiently to provide you the confidence of starting from scratch.
Now everytime I take pictures or Videos, it is transferred straight to my SD Card.
Hope this helps for some that is still having some difficulties with the topic.
