I have an ipaq 5455 that I have been going around and around with tech support about. they say It has a corrupted rom, but I can load ppc 2002 or 2003 at will and it works for the most part. The problem is that it will not update the wifi , fingerprint or bluetooth drivers no matter what I do . Bluetooth continues to have the problems that are encountered in the old driver and the driver release dates are wrong for the drivers loaded. the driver for wifi shows a release date of 2-9-2005 and the wifi driver version is not shown anywhere on hp's site.
what appears to be happening here is that in a non user accessable area of rom , some of the driver files are incorrectly listed as read only and the rom update cannot update them, I have tryed moving , renaming , deleting and generally beating on the files for bluetooth and they will not budge.
hp support told me the device is out of warranty and wants 80 usd just to look at it and they will call me with a quote to fix it. I am reliant on the gps for work and cant be without it for a week. can someone ( possibly an ex hp tech) suggest what diagnostic tools will allow me to fix the non user accessable area of the rom that is the problem here??
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shteev
Its a bit of a long shot, but you culd have a look at www.handhelds.org you may be able to use the tools there to wipe the rom and then reflash from the newer hp rom packs. I did this with my 5550, to try linux on it (it's pretty good, but not quite there yet), and my ppc is back running 2003 fine. The forums are pretty informative too.
what did you do exactly??
i searched handhelds .org and this does seem risky for me .
you went through loading linux and then restored your ppc 2003 from a backup or a new rom image that they had specicically for that device???
what I gather is that the rom is only updated by the hp ppc 2003 upgrade and this is not changing the corrupted files in my rom hense the problem continues.
you loaded linux which changed the firmware rom of your 5555 and then loaded back from a backup or from a new image from handhelds.org???
was it familiar you loaded and where did you get the restoration rom from?
ok , i dont think that will work
i found the page where they talk about restoring win ce , and they have a tool that extracts the file from the softpaq file compaq/hp puts out , mind you when i talked to hp 2nd level tech support they stated this is only an update to the rom and does not completely replace it , therefore given the state of my rom i dont think the linux install would even work as it would not be able to un write protect the files that are locked down.
what i really need is the tool hp uses to flash the rom or diagnose problems with it , since this handheld is out of warranty the patent on such software should be gone , all i need to do is find it. Im not about to pay 80 bucks for something i could fix myself if hp was not such money grasping gluttons. someone surely has had this issue and fixed it so that someone could help. any ex hp techs out there have any advice????
I am not sure this is a hardware issue, I did a search on google and found lots of people having problems with bt and wifi since upgrade to 2003, here is a link to one of them and a suggested fix for the wifi. Did you experience problems when running 2002 ce.?

Things were good for a while but now it all has gone to ****s.
My BA is having issues and not only with BT. I have managed to enable big store using exttools.exe and repart_doc.exe. The only issue is that I guess that has wiped the hidden rom where all the preinstall apps were.
To make a long story short, I had reinstalled the original rom, from a rom dump I did right when I got the device, however, the device, even after hard reset does not run the usual set up utilities that it did and install the junk my telco has included. While for the most part this was not a big deal now I realize that some of the fixes were needed.
For example I used to have BT xxx.3500 now I have xxx.3900 all find and dandy but with both versions my BT will not stay up for more than 2 minutes before it drops the connection.
On soft reset I get the following error message.
Cannot find "storage" ( or one of its components) Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available. Bugger
So now the question is - IS there a way of making these apps run and if so, how or is there another fix that can be done. MY BA is bleeding and it is dying and it is pissing me off.
After all the restores I can see the Extended_ROM on the PPC once again and all the apps in it, just can't run any of the darn things.
BTW, as my signature says this is BA from Telus and it is running on CDMA. which btw is missing from the WWE version on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Versions
Any insight would be appreciated.
If I understand everything correctly, you've effectively wiped the Extended ROM and are using it, along with your Storage as one big "persistent storage" folder on your BA, which is what those programs were designed to do. Everything you did, functioned as it was supposed to.
If this is not what you want, then you might try reflashing your device with the last ROM you got from your carrier and see if that restores everything.
I did just that, and I did flash the device with the "virgin" rom which I have uploaded to wiki. But somwhere along the line something just does not jive. While preforming a hard reset the device would normally auto config itself with all the junk that the telco has put on the device including a number of patches and what not. That function does not run anymore, which is what causing me grief. If I unhide the ROM I can see the files that are supposed to run, including the autoexec.exe all there. I try to unlock to copy these files and run them manually but I am not allowed to copy them anywhere. and while I try to use EXTTOOLS.exe to unlock the ROM thing just go south. It says that the ROM is unlocked but I am still not able to copy any of the files from the ROM.
szamot,
there is nothing availble yet for our phones to update them or make them any better...
I can't believe you tried messing with your harrier... just wait a while until sprint releases their update to the ppc6600. (fingers crossed) we should be able to do something then...
all of the roms you see here (so far as far as I know) are for gsm units, and their roms will NOT work with our cdma's. WAIT!!!!!
Hopefully you can get things back to normal.. otherwise your gonna have an expensive pile of nothingness to work with.
good luck.
as i side note wiki has 4 cdma roms.
Actually I uploaded the rom because it seemed to be the newest one at the time.2.04.00 WWE, I also upgraded the BT to xxx.3900 which all worked fine. However somwhere along the line the Ext Rom got screwed, even though I can see it I can't get at it. Not all is lost however I just procured the contents of the rom from a new device, and even though I run all the fixes and updates and patches the PPC still runs like crap. Even hard reset does not get the unit back to its original state.
Please help. I flashed 2.16.9.x and now ActiveSync doesn't work anymore, it connects all the time. PDA doesn't show activesync syncronization icon.
I tried to flash another versions of ROM, but it didn't help.
The problem may lie with the PC as opposed to the PDA. Have you tried a remove / re-install of AS4.1 on the PC?

Fair enough, I was just trying to help. Perhaps if you had stated that in your original text I would not have provided such an "Obvious" answer. I will leave it up to others now to take guesses as to what you "might or might not have done"......

Try to make your computer or laptop restore on earlier date then since it started. I had once this problem i don't know but sometimes it with the system files in computer missing then the problem occurs.
Although my ActiveSync works almost fine after the same rom-upgrade, I encounter its strange behaviour sometimes (rear, not always!) - PDA slows down to a crawl right after you disconnect it from a desktop PC (either USB or Bluetooth). It becomes so terribly slow that it takes 20-30 sec to draw the Comm-manager window! then you better soft-reset, then it works just fine. Why am I... to prove that ActiveSync 4.1 is not quite stable with new ROM version 2.16. There is a bug somewhere, and it has to be reported to i-Mate firmware writers.
Have you followed Microsoft rules about configuring firewalls for ActiveSync 4.1? Does it create a network connection 169.254.2.1 on a desktop PC?
Thank you guys, but I guess my case is harder:
1. I have firewall switched off. I didn't change any setting in computer. I just flashed new ROM.
2. I flashed my original ROM, but it didn't help.
3. I tried to sync on several computers and had the same result.
By the way I cannot return to original ipl/spl, I don't know how to do that.
Today I visited repairing service's office and they've prooved me my device is not broken, it synchronizes succesfully via USB on their computer.
So, the problem is related to my computer(s). If I'll find something I report in this thread.
it probably has to do with one of the cabs you installed that are on your original extrom or someone elses. Most people who have had problems after the upgrade on an 8125 (Cingular) have installed cingular cabs from the old rom. I had to to figure out the MMS configuration and after I foundthe one that did my activesync no longer worked. after a reflash and only installing some of the default cabs that came with the new rom and manually configuring the mms and gprs I don't have any problems at all.
well maybe it is the version of activesync we are using when this does happen.
I'm running the ROM that came with the Cingular 8125, and it does the same thing ... 1 in 10 times after disconnecting the device from the PC, the 8125 slows to a crawl, and the only way to recover is a soft-reset. 9 out of 10, it works fine.
OS ROM: 1.8.11.1 WWE
Radio: 01.09.11
Protocol: 4.0.13.20
not overclocked
soon to be ROM upgraded (hopefully)

I use 4.1 for a long time.
I didn't install anything on my pda. It happens even after hard reset. I even tried to flash original rom. In all cases ActiveSync displays "Connecting...", pda even doesn't display sync icon.
I tried to sync with standalone notebook and it was successfull. I'm really shocked why pda cannot sync with my desktop(s). It seems to me it could happen after some windows unattendant updates or something, I'm still investigating...
I have Qtek 9100 and have installed rom 2.16.9 and i also have activesync 4.1 refusing connection to my pda. After some googling i have found this interesting site: http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x-connection.htm
I did cheks described there and found out that activesync doesnt have any network adapters and/or activity. USB driver installs, but it, again, doesnt generate anything. Maybe problem is there?
Ehhh... I even cannot return to any previous rom version, because there is no rapi for updaters to work with
reverting back to original cingular rom
How would you go back to original ROM using Lokiwiz tool if your active sync was working OK?
Thanks,
Each time I have done HARD RESET--I uninstalled active sync from my computer AFTER DELETING PARTNERSHIP. I deleted PC from Active sync on my 8125. I deleted all files on my computer related to active sync using search.
I then reinstalled active sync 4.1, being sure WINDOWS FIREWALL was off. I went thru all the steps with my TREND MICRO VIRUS PERSONAL FIREWALL EXCEPTIONS listed on http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
and I got it to work (1st install always takes time for calendar)
Hope that helps--it seems ridiculous to have redo all that-but so be it.
I'd like to know how to get back to CINGULAR ROM as I am still in 30 day return window.
Well there is a magical combination of buttons as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37386 (somewhere around 2-4 page):
Voice+Camera + Reset. Colored bootloader shows up. After that you can connect it to usb and run .exe with rom you want.
The problem with me is that i dont use any 3rd party firewall (i have hardware router for my connections)
reverting back to original cingular rom
You don't think there would be a problem going DOWN in ROM'S?
Do I need to UNLOCK again first?
I must confess. I did (i think veeery lucky) sucseded in running activesync. Altough what was the cause i cannot say. I reverted to 1.6.7 version of the rom. and reinstall everyting several times. and reboted several time. and i saying loud magical words. (and deleted checkpoint vpn software that i have installed). AND it worked!
Maybe trouble was in vpn soft, but it worked pre 4.1 activesync. So... Here is my experience.

Thank you very much for this link, it helped me to find the reason. It's not new ROM fault. The Microsoft Firewall Client (ISA 2000 component) on desktop blocks communication between PDA and desktop. I disabled it and now ActiveSync works fine.
Thank you again.

Strategies for dealing with radio ROM update 114 errors
I had this problem last week and recovered from it. At first it looked pretty bad, nothing seemed to work. I looked the Internet up and down and in most forums, including this one, people agreed that nothing could be done about error 114, the mainboard of the BA needed replacement, etc.
When I finally did fully recover from this situation, it was from a combination of measures that I took and as I don't really know which one actually did the trick, I'll try to describe all of them even though not all will probably apply to others. Another problem is that I probably won't be able to remember them all, but anyway, here goes:
1) I downloaded the latest full official ROM update from site of the carrier this phone was branded for, in this case T-Mobile. It included a radio ROM, albeit version 1.13.0, not 1.15.0 which is the one I had been trying to flash. I decided it would be best to go back to that official version first.
2) I had been trying to do the radio ROM upgrade from a Macintosh (OSX) under Virtual PC. I have since done several ROM installations (without the radio part) from the Mac/VPC which worked fine, but since people had observed that radio ROM updates seem to be more sensitive than fiddling with the normal ROM, I decided to fire up my "real" PC, which runs WIndows XP, SP2, with Active Sync 4.5.
3) As others had suggested, I made sure that I had my cradle connected directly to a USB port on the computer; before I had been trying to go trough a hub. I also made sure the cradle was connected to the power adapter.
4) I had unlocked my device before to work with a non-T-mobile SIM card, but since I wasn't sure wether or not SIM/Net lock problems might still interfere with radio upgrades, I took my SIM card out of the unit, as well as the SD card -- trying to eliminate as many potential sources of screw-up as possible.
5) I think I tried to set my BA into as much of a defined state as I could by hard-resetting it and THEN invoking boot loader mode. I don't remember whether or not this was possible as the device was not reacting much to anything at the time.
6) On the Windows PC, I opened Active Sync, then went to Connection Settings and explicitly disabled the USB connection. I then quit Active Sync and invoked the Windows task manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) to check that no other processes were running. Trying to cut out interference as much as poosible ...
7) I then proceeded to flash the official ROM version, which went flawlessly including the Radio ROM, took less than fifteen minutes in all. To be honest, I don't remember which ROM upgrade utility (BaUpgradeUt/MaUpgradeUt_noID) I used ... sorry. I know I tried whatever was included with the T-Mobile download first.
After that, I verified that everything was working again, then immediately flashed Radio ROM 1.15.0 as I had originally intended. This time it went uneventfully.
Hope some of this helps, I know how frustrated you must be at this point.
Good luck!
thanks a lot
i'm going to follow your instruction today.

So did you have any luck?
Hi There,
I have SD flashed my 6515a and I can not get the phone part to work on it, when I press the green call button nothing happens, also the phone status says there is no service,
I know the sim is good as it works perfectly fine on my other 6515a.
I have tried to upgrade the radio stack but can never get it to update via PC.
Any clues Please? I would like to have them both working!
Thanks!
Jeremy
GSM Radio
Go to the asset viewer and select the GSM tab. Look at the first line where it says Radio Present. Does it say yes or no? If it says no, then based on what you have said about not being able to update the Radio ROM I would have to say you have a corrupted Radio ROM. This, unfortunately is irrecoverable in almost all instances. I went through this many months ago and finally had to buy a used 6515a with a broken screen just to get a good motherboard. I even sent mine to PocketPC Techs to see if they could fix it, but they could not and sent it back to me with no charge for looking at it, those guys are really good to work with. HP charges a small fortune for a new motherboard. If you want the other one working, I suggest looking on eBay for one that has a broken screen but the motherboard is good. I got mine for about 50USD.
Bottom line: A corrupted Radio ROM is a corrputed Radio ROM and cannot be fixed if it is truly corrputed.
Radio Present
In the asset viewer it does say the radio is present although everything below that is blank i.e. firmware version, radio stack version, etc...
I tried using the HP radio update but that does not work and I also am currently tring to flash the radio via SD but that does not appear to bo working either...
let me know if anyone has a solution for me!!
Thanks All!
Jeremy
Some folks have had limited success with the Beetles Radio Patch. It can be downloaded from the url listed below. Just download the file, connect your ipaq the way you would to do a normal rom update, then run the file. It will attempt to update your Radio Stack only with the patch. This patch is from HTC the people who actually make the Radio Stack.

Just got on a plane and found out that the WM 6.1 update seems to have killed my HTC remote control for controlling Audio Manager or Windows Media.
It's one of these: http://www.negrielectronics.com/product_info.php?currency=USD&products_id=1067.
Anyone else run into this? Theres posts on installing the audio driver for other phones, but I don't find one for the Kaiser floating around out there.
There is an updated remote control driver for WM6.1. It can be donwloaded from HTC e-club.
Ah. For anyone that's also looking, it's not on the HTC US site. You have to hit the HTC Europe page and then it will show up.
Interesting. I grabbed the driver and ran the install and the app tells me I have the latest version installed. Won't overwrite or let me reinstall.
Anyone else having this issue? The control still isn't working and I can't tell what the cab files are looking to overwrite to force the install through.
Same issue after new HTC rom update
Any solution ?

Instal the WM 6.1 compatible driver from HTCs website off the bat or if the old version is installed first, hard reset and then install just the latest driver. Why anyone would want the current HTC official WM 6.1 'upgrade' (at least a WWE version) is an important question.
hi Flying Kiwi, I guess the main reason of the upgrade is bug fixing which I guess now is solving some adding others
I'm a new HTC user more used to symbian devices before.
The nokia updates are always good, so I thought it was the same for HTC.
I guess I was wrong.
I followed many times the installation procedure, but I always get the same result :
- Drivers already existing on the PC
- GetDeviceInfo.exe error on the Touch pro.
I guess the GetDeviceInfo error is the source of the pb. Maybe a pb with the ROM itself.
Thanks

Sorry I don't have one of these remote devices to test with - I just assumed (and we know what that results in) that from gauntman's post there was a WM 6.1 compatible driver but all I've been able to find is a very elderly cab (after renaming the file to have a zip extension) - gauntman please point us to a new version that does work if you know of it.
IF you have a stock ROM/Radio/SPL and the remote isn't working and installing the driver doesn't fix it or results in an error installation then my suggestion is to try the headphones that come with the remote and ensure they're fully plugged in. If that still doesn't work then it's time to contact HTC!
I tried this updated version found Here,
But the problem described is the one described.
Is there anyway to uninstall a driver without rebuilding the ROM ?
Sorry for the newbie question, but just an idea.
Maybe I should go for a stable cooked ROM and install the drivers on it.
But if not working i will cry lol

That's the one I was referring to, maybe gauntman knows of something newer.... In the meantime have you tried what I suggested ie restoring it to a stock HTC state and testing again with the headphones that came with the remote fully plugged in? If that doesn't work then it's fair and square a HTC issue to resolve.
Thanks I really appreciate your feedback.
Yes I actually did a hard reset.
The stock headphone is working fine.
So far the RC E100 has no sound problem, just the button issues.
I guess not a mini usb issue, but really a driver pb.
I contacted HTC about the last ROM and their accessory, let's see if the reputation of their technical support is as good as their product
Thanks
Michael
