Xda IIs Extened Rom Cooking - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi,
I was just wondering how easy it is to do these few things within the extened ROM...
- Creating a theme and making it an executable cab file within the extended ROM, like the o2 theme, is there a way of doing this?
- Setting the network connection settings from a CAB file to your own requirements.
- Setting the boot splash screen from within the Extended ROM
If anyone could help me with these bits and pieces i would be most gratefull!
Many Thanks,
James

ROM Kitchens

Are there any ROM Kitchens for the SX66 like the old LumpiStefan's kitchen?
His kitchen lets you pick and choose from a list the ROM's and programs to install, then it creates a flashable .exe file? That was the greatest site for the XDAI. Here is the link for reference:
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
Most of what you are looking for is on wiki.
The new tool that will let you create a nbf out of cabs to flash your device with the upgrade tool is im alpha stage. It can open both Type I (oldtool) and Type II roms, extract and inport cabs out of a nbf. Also you can save all type II roms as type I. Needless to say you can perform the same funtions as the old tool as well as extract the splash screens out of the ndf.
Before anybody asks the answere is NO as it wouod gerate to many questions and hinder the programmer, he has a day job
Edit Got d and b mixed up in nbf, changed text.

Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm not a programmer but have done rom upgrades for older devices like XDAI. I was looking for a non programmers version of a ROM kitchen like the link I posted. This one made it simple for
Do you know of one for the SX66?
Thanks, Joe
I agree its a cool site for non programers!
Wiki is all that I know of.
MDAIIIUser
Yes, as a non programmer this site was incredible for the XDAI.
Even for a programmer, imagine checking the box for each component you
wanted to load into ROM. These ROMs are very stable and packed with features.
If you or any other members want to create the ULTIMATE kitchen for the Blue Angel devices, this would be a great format.
Ayway, thanks for your posts, help and advice. It is greatly appreciated.
Building the tool is not that hard...but maintaining it...could be a day task (including helping people etc).
You need to regularly upgrade the page with the latest versions, and people always want stuff that is not on there...lots of work.
I am not sure if anyone around here has that amount of time and interest in doing so...

"Mr. Clean" AKU 2.3 ROM available - No Carrier Cus

After seeing more than a few requests on the board, I figured it was high time to cook up a clean ROM for everyone to use. The purpose in creating it was two-fold. One, I wanted to have a core ROM that wasn't littered with carrier customizations and two I wanted to create a solid base for others to play with.
Cooking up your own ROM can be scary the first time you do it, it's a lot safer to simply mess with tweaking the Extended ROM and leaving the OS and bootloader alone. The Mr. Clean ROM only loads four items (Disable Cert, MMS Folder Creation, MIDlet Java Session Fix and Total Commander) so it's great to use as a base to build on or simply to flash over completely.
As for the ROM itself, I used the core OS from the latest T-Mobile beta ROM (AKU 2.3) and the Radio ROM from the latest Cingular beta ROM (2.25). As many have already noticed, though the two carrier releases share the same version number for their respective Radio ROMs, they are not idential files. The Cingular Radio ROM appears to much better at keeping a signal.
--------------------------
Exact version numbers are as follows:
IPL: 2.24
SPL: 2.24
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.24.10.1
Within the OS, Device Information reports:
ROM version: 2.24.10.1 WWE
ROM date: 4/17/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: 2.24a Mr. Clean
And the OS build is reported as:
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0)
--------------------------
I've been testing it out for a few hours now and the build seems to be solid. Boot time is very quick and it appears to acquire a network signal almost immediately.
A2DP is supported natively in the ROM.
Any questions, please post here in the thread. Otherwise I hope this helps all the non-Cingular/T-Mobile users as well as the budding ROM chefs out there!
The ROM is currently on the FTP at:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224a_AKU23_WWE.zip
Note: 2.24a was uploaded on 6/17/2006 and contains the Java Session fix. Please DISREGARD v2.24 and don't bother using it. If an FTP admin is reading this, please feel free to DELETE MrClean_RUU_WIZARD_224_AKU23_WWE.zip from the safe area. This file supersedes it.
Edit: 4/7/06 v2.24 deleted from safe area (eDsuB)
sweet... This is exactly what I need... Please do keep this going for future ROM releases.
Which Splash screen did you use? I tried to put in my own with an exe I found in another thread, but it doesn't work on this ROM.

aalright now after i install this rom where can i get the proper t-mobile settings? ive looked around and ive seen it once but now i cant find it
ahhh. man. i just upgraded to the tmobile 2.24 last nite becaue i couldnt wait anymore, and now you have this. lol. i would rather a core rom though so i still mite get this
i just install this rom and installed all the cabs of the t-mobile ext rom and well theres one thing the comm manager isnt the same.
it has the same settings int he settings menu like the usb to pc thing just the comm manager is different is there any way to change the comm manager to the new layout.
This is great, thanks.
So what exactly do you do for the MMS folder creation? When I have updated in the past and not run the extended ROM stuff, I didn't have an MMS account. So I had to make a registry change to enable MMS account creation, then create it in the messaging application. Is that basically what you do?
ikkoku - Glad you like it. I'll try to keep it going as new ROM releases ship out. To answer your question about the splash, it's a custom screen.
jacob-mda - Check out the thread listing the functions of the T-Mobile 2.24 Extended ROM. I've listed out the known components in there. If you just want the GPRS/WAP and MMS settings you should be good to go if you grab the following CABs from the T-Mobile ExtROM and install them:
MP_Customization_TMOUSA_Wizard(AKU2.x)_060510.CAB
P_Generic_Conn_Settings.CAB
gizm0luvsu - I'm not sure what you mean when you say the Comm Manager isn't the same. If you're talking about the difference between the old 1.x ROMs and the new, you'll note that the Comm Manager now has seven items in it instead of four. It's going to look a bit different just because of the new functions.

Here, this will only install the T-Mobile GPRS/MMS/IE/OTA settings. (this was made by xelencin on a previous ROM)

Basically. When trying to figure out how to do it, I was pointed to one of the default carrier CABs that does just that -- creates the MMS folder and adds the Java link. So I just used that CAB to do the work.
what i mean is that i know its supposed to look different. when i was using 2.21 it had 5-6 things in it now when i upgraded to this mrclean one it only has the original 4.
but it has the usb-> pc sync and stuff that the new one has
Prophet
does such a rom also excist for the htc prophet??
in my case the orange spv m600 with latest dopod rom.
or is this rom already good to go for prophet users???
could al the people who reply to this post mention on what device the installed it on.
so everybody knows whats going on here.
I know this is the forum for the wizard but allot of programs and upgrade for the wizard are usable on the prophet.
can you tell me if this is possible or not?
thanx

The Comm Manager in the MrClean ROM has seven options in it. Just like the other AKU 2.3 ROMs. If you've only got four options in the Comm Manager you don't have the ROM properly flashed.
I would double check to make sure that the version numbers match what I have posted above. Also, make sure your device is CID-unlocked before trying to flash this ROM.
i actually reflashed my rom and now it does have the 7 thx for the info

I would NOT try to flash this ROM to anything but a Wizard device. I honestly wouldn't know if similar ROMs exist for other devices. Since I only have a Wizard, I can only test things on a Wizard so anything I build is going to be solely for the Wizard (at least until I get my grubby hands on more toys).

[QUE] Made dump - got 4 .raw files - no .nbh or .nb - What's next?

Hello fellow HTC-ers!
I've made a dump of my Blackstone (using pdocread -l), all seems fine. Got 4 .raw files. Now, Dr. Jay in his movie says to "get" a .nbh file. From where?? I'm confused. Read several postings about IMGFS, but those didn't help me to get to the next step.
To be precise : I want to have a flashable backup of my original (NLD : Original NLD ROM - 1.14.404.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14) ROM before I install HSPL and start cooking my own. Preferably, I want to create this original flashable ROM myself, just to get familiar with the tools and the process.
Could anyone tell me where to go from here? (4 .raw files)
Thanks.
Grt., K.
ps. when I search this forum for ".nb" or "nbh" I get no hits.. Does the searchkey have to consist of a minimum number of characters?

When is class # 1? I have played around a little with the Samsung i780 and actually flashed a ROM dump but never went far enough to learn about xip, packages, and other things. So I will stay tuned.
That's what I need to know , and package compiling, and ui tweaks, and some other things.
Hello my dear fellow cooks. Everything to start is in place. To make it easy to start I added 3 pictorials to install the kitchen, extract and build your first rom and a tutorial on how to add an OEM package. Links to all necessary reading are in post #3. I also added a clean 1.19 WWE rom with OEM and SYS to make an easy start. It now is up to your imagination.
Wow, thanks ! Soon I will be a great chef!

@kwbr
Here you are!!! it could be much easier for me to find this thread if you left me the link for the threads in your PM, anyway I found it accidently and not using the search option since I tryed it for hours but it didn't help a bit,
Anyhow thanks for opening a great helpful thread which I think it should be... sticky... sticky... sticky
After scrolling through the thread I still couldn't find answers to my questions. So here they are:
-From which folder do I need to delete the program folders that needed to be deleted? (SYS, OEM, or TEMP) Since some of them have duplicates.
-How about the registry do I need to edit anything after all or deleting the folders only would do the trick?
-What's the difference between using the buildos.exe and the buildos+package_tools-2.7 and what is the proper use for either of them?
-in some posts it mentioned that you can add a program by placing it's package to the "OEM or SYS" folder What's the difference if I put the packages in OEM folder rather than SYS folder? do i need to do any registry changes? If so then where?
-Do I need to use the buildos+package_tools-2.7 after all and along with placing the packages in the OEM or SYS folder?
Cleaning up the registry is quiete easy, too. Use an editor with a "search in files" functionality and use it in order to find the files containing your registry keys/values.
Click to collapse
-Can you name me a good editor to use?
-What would be the best way to change in manila's, using the packages method or replace them directly from their location in the kitchen?
-The final and most delicate question is how can I integrate the registration info in a shareware program package?

help please

i everybody im new on this forum. i try many rom on my phone but i stay stuck with the hyoerdragon III becawith use is the only one the setting wisard working for my service provider Could you tell me how could i extract this forlder from the rom or how could i do to have a copy off this connectiong wisard settings

Helping you to help yourself
As this is a question relating to a custom ROM and you are new here, you need to 1) Review the wiki/sticky posts here and even the thread relating to that ROM, 2) Search for your solution using the forum search and 3) If you still have a question, post it in the custom ROMs own thread, that is if this thread isn't moved there by a mod. There is a connection wizard in HTCs Native ROMs but in my experience I've not needed to initialise it because my operators network automatically detects if my TyTN II isn't set up for their network and automatically initialises the wizard and configures it all for me. If you really NEED to ask this question over at the Hyperdragon III thread, make sure you include full details of your setup (including your network/provider) and maybe someone on your network can help.
