I am having major problems installing TT3 on my new XDA 2i, it keeps coming up with an issue about not displaying correctly as it was meant for an earlier version of ppc and then wont load, it also has t versions of the gps software on it that I cant get rid of the icons from the programmes menu.. Can anyone help or tell me how they got round the problem please.
Thanks.
Please can you explain your problem in more detail. Thanks
It sync's and transfers files but they do not extract when loaded onto the XDA, all I get a pop up box (twice) that says that there may be display problems as I am using a newer os then ttn3 etc.............., Then when you look in the windows folder and select ttn3 it says no application associated with the file. The GPS programme installs, but then if you uninstall you get left with the icon for the gps prog. left in the programmes folder (I now have 2 icons in that folder). Hope that makes it clearer.
try doing a hard reset ,,but backup first with sprite ,, and see if that helps ,dont worry about that message it will always come up about not being able to display
Ok, Will try that. Is it best to load TT3 on before restoring?
no backup first incase it doesn't work ,then you can always go back to your old setup and get back any lost info
I'm newbie I have problem when want to downgrade to original rom update form XDA Website i'm try upgrade to WM 2005 but i cannot to returnt please give me solution
make sure activesync is completely disabled. right click on it's icon (near clock). In the options or settings menu, uncheck two checkboxes, one is "USB connection" and second also something about detecting/connecting to device.
Once you do that, AS icon should be greyed out with little red X on it.
The idea behind this is you don't want AS interfering when you plugin the device for upgrade, yet you do need the AS drivers to make the actual connection between firmware upgrade proggy and H/W device.
if u download helmi_c rom, just copy the files to PH20B1 folder and run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe. also take out SD card too for now.
I'm not uderstand i'm download
http://www.my-xda.com/downloads/Xda_IIs_Upgrade_v140242.exe
but i cannot use cause shown error 120
ok i have try use MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe but i cannot upgrade it show error connection
first, what is the brand and model number for your pda there?
Hello all. Just got my phone on Orange and I like it. I have been a Mac-user for the past 12 years so I am used to not tweaking my gadgets. Can someone explain how I install the CABs onto my Kaiser via either my G5 iMac or my intel Macbook. Many thanks
do'h not very sure, but you might want to try the missing sync, grab the latest version, it now supports win5 and 6. basically that's what you need to synch your mac and PDA, but not very sure if you can install 'em through it though
Now how do I find the installed CAB
OK I have downloaded a CAB onto the Kaiser via Missing Sync. (HTC album mui 0419.cab) So how do I now find it on the phone and activate it or any other CAB?
Thanks again
not that hard
I get that you're new, I am too, but try to figure this stuff out by yourself.
Bluetooth should work for getting files onto the phone (my docs/bluetooth)
When you sync to the phone, the PC version is that you see the phone on the schema/folder tree and can choose where to put it.
When you find the cab file, opening it will install it. Generally try to put system specific things on main memory and things like games on a storage card.
Look at some must have threads to find programs that you like and after you figure it out try a hard reset and reinstall things. That will let you keep a stable device.
As for ROMS, I would be careful of even thinking about flashing on a mac unless you find a thread telling you how to do it, you don't want a bricked device.
Remember to search the forums - it's worth your time.
Just mount the kaiser with missing sync. After that, drag and drop the file to a location that you can remember. Once you do that, just go to the file explorer in the kaiser, locate the file, and click. You should be all set.
what about a non-cab files? with an .exe extension, will it be installable trough missing sync?
from what I can remember, Missing Sync is really broken at the moment. (under 10.5).
To install a cab, you just use the tab next to syncronize, what is it, the file tab or somehing?
if it's a .cab, it will be loaded automatically. But make sure there's no spaces/irregular characters on the .cab, otherwise, it won't load the installation, and possibly, the file will not be uploaded at all. I think this is a missing sync bug.
Nope, you're going to have to pull the .CAB out of the .EXE file

Hello folks!
I got a problem with the smart resident.exe.
When my Xperia (running TouchIT v10.3) starts up I get the message that smart resident.exe couldnt be found and I should eventually reinstall it.
programms which require smart resident like slovo ed sadly dont work for me
how can I fix this?
The screen that pops up looks like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=158253&d=1234889244
only that its on my xperia
EDIT: can somebiody with touch x attach their smart resident file so that I can simply copy it over to my device and see if it works?!
Uninstall SlovoEd.
Go to "My Device/Windows/StartUp"
There you should find Smart Resident.lnk, delete that and it should be fine.
Well that worked for me.
I know that slovoEd hast this smart resident lnk file.
Its like you sayd in device\windows\startup and there its called Solovoed 7.lnk and this points out to:
device\windows\slovoed 7\smart resident.exe but this smart resident.exe isnt there!
I got the error message (from the attached image file) even before slovoed was installed
Reinstalling a SlovoEd dictionary (Talking Concise Oxford English Dictionary for Windows Mobile) solved this problem for me.
Hi
unfortunatly i have this problem and I couldn't delete this file.
pleas help me.
thanks
bye

Tx FlimFlam!
I installed my language version & it did the trick. BTW: I noticed that for whatever reason, SlovoEd had "uninstalled" (?) itself. Meaning: I had not used it in a while & it was not visible in the Menu structure any longer. Without having checked: probably most files were still there.
Hi
go to my device/windows/startup
and delet ( Slovoed )
I did it and my problem solved.
say if that worked or no .
Reviving an older thread here...
it seems like there has been no proper solution this far. there is a few things one can do. they have been posted up above already. unfortunately this thread does not clarify what actually happens there.
let me try to add some info/findings of my own.
SmartResident.exe appears to be a module which sits in the memory, resident. i was not able to figure out what it is meant to do there tho, since the english or german menu items in SlovoEd, the donor of that little nuisance, are so totally badly translated that i couldn't gather their meaning.
I suppose that it is meant to catch words one marks and translates them via right-click or so, similar to babylon's pretty neat function.
It does not succeed in doing so tho. Hence it is useless.
What might be the reason for the warning at boottime? The missing Resident? Well, there is at least two reasons: either u did a hard reset and it just got wiped or u installed a new ROM while u kept SlovoEd on the storage card. This would have wiped the resident as well since it is not located on the card but always on main mem. And of course it might well be that u just messed with ur files and accidentally deleted the resident...
So, how to get rid of it? Mainly read above. Summary below.
1.) u can try to "fix" up the SlovoEd.lnk or SmartResident.lnk file in the \\windows\AutoStart\ or alternatively \\windows\StartUp\ folders. Just open them with a text editor and put in some crap, point them to some useless executable file.
2.) run a script each shutdown time to delete the .lnk file. eg MortScript or so.
3.) Re-Run any SlovoEd Dictionary or Engine Installer. When using a Dictionary-Installer make sure to select engine-setup as well since this will place the Resident into \\windows\SlovoEd 7\ where it is supposed to sit. Note: this will NOT get rid of the resident but fix a corrupt installation and thus make the annoying warning at boottime disappear.
4. option 4 will be my pref. keep a backup of SmartResident.exe in the SlovoEd 7 folder on the card and just copy it back over to its original location in case it gets destroyed...
cheers,
Sneaky
Hi,
I need to install hebrew fonts and i understood that i need to "Root" the device.
How do i do it? Can anyone send a link to a working and simple guide to do it?
2. I saw some picture of a scheme which has "buttons" for things like GPS, WIFI, etc.
Where i can get "Buttons" to simply turn on/off such options? (I.E without going all the way to the settings and doing it by much longer method)
Thanks!
1. to root your device, you can do it the long way, or you can do it the short way. use the kitchen that flipz made. go to http://geekfor.me and look for th e kitchen under the downloads section. there's an auto-rooter.
2.if you have the htc hero(which i'm assuming you do), press the plus button on bottom right or long tap on an empty space in the screen, select HTC widgets, press Settings, and then choose what you want
"Plus" button?...
I have the Sprint HTC Hero (This is why i wrote in the Hero CDMA forum) - i don't a "plus" button...
Yes you do... or hold an empty space on your Home Screen on the Add to Home screen > HTC Widget > Settings.
I have the Sprint HTC hero - i don't see any "Plus" button...
I wrote in the CDMA HTC Hero forum, because i have the Sprint Hero.
I will try to look at the link you gave, but i didn't understand the second thing you wrote: this is after what i do in section "1"?...

oh dear....
step 1: rooting your phone
download this zip: http://link.geekfor.me/kitchen02
save it to your desktop or a folder (i made one at My Documents\Android stuff)
unzip it and name the folder whatever you might want to(i did 'kitchen)
now download this exe file: http://link.geekfor.me/kitchen02b
take that file and drag it into your 'kitchen' folder, replacing the previous .exe that was in there, so yes you do press 'Copy and Replace' when the dialog box comes up.
now... the easy part. turn on your phone. connect it to your computer with the USB cable, and MAKE SURE you have the drivers installed for your phone. open up the kitchen exe, and press the button with the giant '#' on it. follow some instructions, and you should be done soon.
step 2: adding widgets... *sigh*...
unlock your phone and make sure you're at the home screen. now on the BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER, RIGHT NEXT TO THE PHONE ICON, THERE WILL BE A PLUS BUTTON, assuming that you're using HTC Sense and not vanilla android. press it, go HTC widgets, Settings, th en whatever you want.
there
and to clarify... the plus button is not a physical button! its on the touchscreen!
Oh..Sorry...Of course i know the "plus" button..i was that you're refering to a
hardware button, so sorry!
But what do i need to choose?(from the widgets screen...)
You told me to go to this kitchen, download the files etc. Will this Root my device?
I saw many threads with what looks like a more complicated "Root" methods: will your way is like an Automated/Easy way to root a cdma sprint Hero?
After this way, will i be able to add fonts as like for instance?
Thanks again!

haha i've already said it twice in my other posts man. press the plus button go to HTC Widgets, scroll down to Settings, and then pick GPS, Wifi, Mobile Network, Bluetooth, Airplane mode. read the whole post!
i don't know about adding fonts, but yes the way i told you will automatically root your phone. just follow the directions i gave you... and when in doubt... use the search function in this forum.
I'm not sure, but I think you need to push the files via ADB.
Code:
adb remount
adb push [HebrewFont] /system/fonts
adb reboot
Thank you all! I'll try doing it all and update you!
htc hero auto flash
im getting an error can someone help ,this is what i get, there all the same picture just diffrent shots.
Looks like you may have missed a few steps...
Are you following this tutorial?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291
Picking up my Hero tomorrow and getting ready to Root ASAP.
When using the Kitchen 0.2 to auto-root, will it create a Nandroid backup automatically or do you need to follow additional steps after the auto-root? Thanks.

Hi Again,
I tried following you steps, and clicked on the fresh-pre-kitchen.exe, then on the "#", but after it started it says "missing asroot2" although i see it along all other files...
What can i do?
the autorooter doesn't work 100% of the time. Yet http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Follow this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291
Dont skip steps, dont make up steps, print it out and follow it. check off each step as you go.
If you cant follow that tutorial, you shouldn't be messing with rooting anyways. Rooting does void your warranty, and I'm not sure you would be able to figure out how to get it back if something did go wrong.
Don't you have a computer geek friend, nephew, kid, anybody that can help?
You're missing steps. follow the tutorial to the "t". honest, you're just skipping steps. if you get anything besides what the author says, you have done something wrong at that step.
Sorry for the RTFM and I dont mean to be a jerk, but i have a bad feeling this could be a very long thread and im trying to pull the plug on repeating (over and over) a well-documented procedure that is fairly simple.
A question
If someone want to go back to his original factory settings (and ROM) after he did rooting to this device, will it be possible?
I read what you said about the warranty etc.,but won't a "hard reset" return the device to its default status?
A hard reset would only return the phone to settings after the root process..
To get back to factory you have to download the RUU that is on the Rom Wiki, and run that application.
do you have a link to this rom wiki?
where can i find it?
(It just out of curiosity)
Thanks!
