Hi guys,
I have had my XDA IIs for a few weeks now and I have been reading up on how to upgrade it to 1.40 with the latest 1.13 radio. I would appreciate if I could just describe the steps I am going to take to upgrade it and see if anyone can tell me if I have misunderstood some of the wiki/ forum instructions.
My current version is (from DeviceDate.txt) PH20B 0 B WWE E O2___001 1.31.00 0 0 1.31.139 1.06.00 06.00.
1. I have downloaded from the wiki (ftp://xda:[email protected]_11200_Ship/Extracted_Type_I_CE_Rom/nk.nbf) From what I understand, a Type I file is one that can be edited with xda3nbftool.exe- is this correct?
2. I have also downloaded the 1.13 radio ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23807&highlight= . I understand this is also a type I file as mdaIIIuser converted it.
3. Using the Type I upgrade tools, I use the instructions from the wiki getting started (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_GettingStarted) and edit editfix.bat for my Operator ID etc.
4. At this stage I am not upgrading my Extended ROM with anything, so I am not putting any ms_.nbf into my upgrade directory. I am not upgrading my ext rom like this as we cannot edit ms_.nbf for Blue Angel (which is a pig as I am used to my Himalaya!!!!!)
5. I run editfix.bat from command prompt which hopefully will convert my rom and radio files to O2 UK.
6. Now that my files are converted I run BAUpgrade_UT.exe (from what I understand I dont need the MA_upgradeUT.exe since my headers should all be correct) If this doesn't work due to country code error etc, I use the cracked MAUpgrade_UT files and try again (twice).
7. My radio and ROM shoudl now be 1.13 and 1.40 WWE respectively.
8. My extended ROM is still 1.31 though so I unlock and unhide it and remove all files (except for my O2 UK customization cabs for GPRS etc) and replace them with the 1.40 Base. At this stage I get a little confused, from what I gather, i need to pick one of the QTEK base roms. Which one would be the best to add my O2 stuff to? I was thinkng that I-Mate Qtek 1.40.147 WWE (as it uses the config.txt method, which I am used to!) I copy these files into my extended ROM, upadate the config.txt to include my O2 UK and other customizations and then I do a hard reset. And there you go, job done, I hope!
Please, if anyone who has done this before with Blue Angel could check over my steps to see if I have done anything particularly foolish. I am so used to all hte tools used to customise my Himalaya so it is just a case of getting used to a new way of doing things.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Fin
I thought I should include the contents of my editfix.bat:
REM ~DeviceData.txt PH20B 0 B WWE E T-MOB101 1.12.22 2 2 1.12.169 1.02.00 02.00
REM Replace the question marks with the data from ~DeviceData.txt
REM 'sd' stands for device, e.g. PH20B.
REM 'sl' stands for language, e.g. WWE.
REM 'so' stands for operator (Country ID), e.g. T-M0B101.
REM ms_.nbf Password = 0x20040522
REM nk.nbf Password = 0x20040521
REM radio_.nbf PAssword = 0x20040523
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523

Looks fine (only skiimed it though)
Note the files are type I so you need the type I upgrade files (which you have fixed) the Ma tool is for type 2 files.
Dont mix them up.
Thanks for checking for me. Have just updated my phone and all seems fine, still need to check my GPRS and operator settings are all there!
Thanks again,
Fin
the 1.40 has BT 3900, your EXT Rom might have cabs that install BT 3500, which will be a downgrade.
Check that your Ext rom is clean of patches and add the 1.40 patches off wiki that you need. Browse the kitchen for more info.
I have read through the ERK in wiki and I can't see anything to install bluetooth version 3500. I might be wrong though, the only cabs I have left from my previous extended ROM are as follows:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\BA_cm_rm_map_o2_v3.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\O2UK_AP_09212004_BA_1.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\O2UK_Button9_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\O2UK_Connection_Setting.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\O2UK_Hide_WLan_message.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\O2UK_PIE_homepage.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\O2UK_Regional_TimeZone.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\install.ARM.CAB
From what I can gather these are just customization cabs for O2 UK, if anyone knows any different please let me know!
Thanks again for your help!

Looks good, have fun
Update XDA IIs
I have the unlock UK xda IIs, and I have download the new update. I was hopping someone can answer my question. If I install my update will it lock my phone again?
Once you unlock, it's unlocked for good - no need to worry about changing ROMs back and forth.

Hi Lembee,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12419
If you're interested, Carrier Devices also has an Arabic localized version
of the i-mate. If you check with FTP in the same directory as the one indicated in the post, you'll see exactely the same package, but only
with the words 'Arabic' in there. I don't know if the whole OS is localized,
but I'm prity sure some local adaptations will be there.
Happy Flashing !
Willem
Thank you tons for the reply ... the batch file though is for running the upgrade on a T-Mobile one ... mine is a straight forward Qtek9090 for expansys. Any thoughts?
it's the same thing...
No problem beeing a T-mob one...just replace the Operator Id.
I have PDA2k From Imate but I want reflashing to QTEK 9090. I just downloaded xda3nbftoola and Qtek 9090 nbf file and run command follow steps:
-> xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
-> xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -so CDL -sl WWE nk.nba
-> xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
-> xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521
-> del *.nba
-> Run BaUpgradeUt.exe
this app accepted DeviceID, Language ID but not accepted CountryID. Could help me choose Correct Operator.
Thanks so much!!
If you have , how did you get the upgrades to work?
I've been trying to upgrade my radio only and i've been getting
ERROR: 100 MODEL ID ERROR
any help?
Q1: are you using the fix.bat with the correct Model number ?
Q2: Are you using a radio that we know that works 1.06.02 FRA ?
how do i set up the fix bat to work with my phone?
Can you post me step by step instructions for that because i've searched everwhere for it, i included my device data fie with this post, just in case.
Thanks
Basically I read what was on the wiki. (Thanks guys who are writing new stuff!!!!!!) Yes, I have an SX66.
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B1 -sl WWE -so XGULA001 ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B1 -sl WWE -so XGULA001 nk.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B1 -sl WWE -so XGULA001 radio_.nba
That was what I got from the fix.bat.
can you post all the steps you took. and did you have an install.bat and a fix.bat?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
Read the getting started section
Took me a while to figure this out and I know it has confused a lot of other people. But - I got there in the end and this is what I did...please note this does have the potential to blitz your device - if you aint comfortable don't do it!!!!
Firstly - mine is an O2 (UK) XDA2s currently on the latest (1.06.00) ROM.
1 - copy the standalone files from the wiki site to your machine.
2 - do the following in DOS step by step:
REM The tool takes the file and reworks it as nda
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523
REM patches that file with the info you give it - notice codes for O2!
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -so O2___001 -sl WWE radio_.nba
REM Works out the checksum and writes it back to the nda
xda3nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba
REM And posts the file back as ndf for the tool to use
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nba radio_.nbf 0x20040523
REM Kills the nda as it is not needed
del *.nba
Now simply sync your device and then run from windows (double-click) BaUpgradeUT.exe it *should* run a radio upgrade only.
Finally hard reset as per the instructions on screen.
Good luck!

Do you find BT3900 and Radio 1.08 a good combo? Is it worth upgrading now (looks like 1.10 is just around the corner)
tbh - not a lot different. I was hoping that it would make my bt better but it has not. Hope 1.10 is better
R
hi Rakh1,
i downloaded the 1.08.00 patch from wiki and directly patched the upgrade (without going thru the steps in dos you described) and it worked
do u think there's gonna be a problem later on? :?
Hi,
The steps in DOS purely match the radio update to your device and language. I tried doing it straight out without these stepsfirst too - except for me it turned my device into a paperweight!
If you managed sucessfully wthout them I can see no problems further don the line...
Rich
Hi Six,
Did you use the SD card method to back up all your roms (CE, Radio, ExtRom)?
I think yours are asian ROM that should be alright with my device in HK.
Thanks very much in advance.
Cheers,
i have been following instructions on multiple thread and wiki's page but i still can't upgrade both full ROM or even radio only.
running EditFix.bat gave me "header info error and possible wrong password".
added [CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1 but still no help.
unable to open any of the roms using er2003edit as i do not have the password.
i have a xda2 and i was able to perform upgrades by tweaking the rom files but BlueAngel seems a lot harder.
can someone help me out?
thanks in advance.
finally!
finally upgraded my Siemens SX66 to
CE ROM: v1.40
Radio : v1.12
(did not change my ExtROM; didnt see a need for it)
from original
CE ROM: 1.33.10
Ext ROM: 1.33.110
Radio : 1.02.10
my steps:
1) download and extract ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/BlueAngel_Roms/BA_1.40_radio_1.20_untested_extrom.rar
2) open HTCRUU.conf in notepad and add-in [CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
3) search the forum for xda3nbftool.exe and download into the same folder
4) open command prompt and go to working folder; run the following commands:
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B1 -sl WWE -so XGULA001 nk.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523

xda3nbftool -c -u radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nba radio_.nbf 0x20040523
5) finally, run BaUpgradeUt.exe
Last note! Upgrade at your own risk!
issue(s) encountered so far:

SX66 Upgrade Issues?
Hey Lazzy,
Did you work out the last bugs after your upgrade?
I have an SX66 and want to fix the horrible BT issues.
Sounds like you are very close to a solid upgrade.
Let me know if you think this is doable for me.
I'm not a programmer but am capable of following your instructions.
sorry cozy but i haven't had time to poke around. and currently my version has the DAMN camera software installed as well and my bluetooth headset doesn't work very well.
will keep you guys posted once i have time to research.
i also have the camera app, but i hide the app shortcut

I managed to sucessfully upgrade to BA_TMUK_14200_112_11300_Ship - now everything is in english which is great, what isnt great is that it is T-Mobile branded. My goal was to get the latest ENGLISH ORANGE rom on my phone.
I assumed the upgrade path was BA_TMUK_14200_112_11300_Ship to RUU_v2.5_OrangeUK_v5.40.1.179.ship, but i guess i am probably wrong.
I used GetDeviceData.exe to get the new information from my SPV, which now reads:
PH20B 0 B
WWE E
ORANG202
1.42.00 0 0
1.42.112
1.13.00 13.00

I extracted RUU_v2.5_OrangeUK_v5.40.1.179.ship to a directory along with UpgradeTools.rar. I edited EditFix.bat with the above information. I ran EditFix.bat and it gives me the following text:
WARNING: this does not look like a nbf header, possible you provided the wrong password

I have been going through this for about 5 hours now, and im getting pretty frustrated. Most of the posts here with similar problems all point back to:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel
Which is great, only that i have read through it maybe 50 times. Not sure if i am missing some vitally important part in it and i am blind, but i really dont see any info about passwords that i can put in the fix.bat file to make it work.
Any help at this stage would be great. Passwords for RUU_v2.5_OrangeUK_v5.40.1.179.ship would be even better.
My current fix.bat:

You doint need the fix.bat on rom version that are above 1.31 as most if not all of those roms are Type II.
If you want an unbranded device then run the upgrade of the t-mobile without the ext rom file (nk)
What you realy need to do is cook your ext rom (wiki has a section on it).
take the ext rom of the orange france 1,42
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_ERK_Available_Ext_Roms
Extract it and merge it with the T-mobile 1.42.
Like I said wiki has a good section on it.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_RomKitchen
Hope it helps
I actually want to use it in the UK. I assume that i take the UK ext rom and merge it with the t-mobile rom ?
I will try it, if i come back crying you will know that i screwed up somewhere.
Jason
How do you make the extended rom into a .nbf file ?
