Broken XDA 2i screen...what the cheapest solution? - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

i was stupid enough to lean on a pool table while playin and crack my xda 2i screen...what do you reckon is the easiest and the cheapest way to fix it?
would appreciate your help...
O2 quote me around £180 which is a lot of money and me being a student cant really afford to pay that much

Mmmmm I've looked around and cant see anyway of fixing that.
You could get the backpack and then connect to a monitor(but then you lose the whole idea of portability.

Thats a shame, pity it was not stolen then you could have claimed off of your insurance. You do have insurance, either phone specific or house contents?

i have an xda2 screen for sale? looking for £50, im not sure if it will fit the xda21 i would ahe thought it would? but best to ask someone who actaully knows! if your interested pm me

i contacted imate repair [email protected] about £100 it seems to be the most sensible price also the fact that fixing it wont damage the garantee...
any experience with SBE?

Broken XDA2i Screen ...
Hi M4Mad!
I'm in the same situation as you as well! was doing some work out in the garage and only when I took my xda2i out to make a call did I see that something had smacked the screen! GRRRRR!!!
Have you found anywhere that does a screen replacement at all? I dropped an email to proporta.com as they have an 'XDA' listing for 55 squid plus 15 to fit but they emailed me back and said it's only for the XDA1.
Times like this you wish you had taken out that insurance policy isn't it!!
Where is the imate repair centre you mention? I guess £100 isn't so bad, If you could let me know that'd be great!
Cheers!

broken screen
Hi the M4Mad!
Well, i've been scrabbling around a bit looking for somewhere to fix my screen with mixed results
Went to an O2 store- they can fix it, within a week, no problemo
£210 !!
Found a site apexlaptops.co.uk - Called em up and a lady said they can fix it,
£205!!
Next up was Proporta - like i mentioned before they can't fix it.
I'll try the number you've put here tommorow and see who they are and how much they want.
Else, I have to decide what to do. for the moment I've dug out my spare Nokia 8890 and it still works brilliantly!
i'll pop up on this post my 'findings' tommorow!
Cheers! Dennis! West London UK!!

Hmm... As I know, I saw Qtek 2020(i) XDA II displays for sale apox. 240 USD... 400 USD for repair is too big price. In our city it is about 300 USD.

XDA IIi Screen
I've just had mine replaced (after I slammed the car boot lid on it!!!) - It cost me £160 including the on/off switch which I also broke the day before when I dropped it (I was having a a bad week). The switch repair alone is normally £70!!
I had the repair done through the O2 repair center.
The least you can do is send it off for a quote through O2 - if nothing else, thats free.

XDA IIi Screen
Well well!
I've been doing a bit of research and the cheapest I can seem to find anything is here
http://www.pocketpctechs.com/
Xda2i screens for $199 USD fitted ! so in Sterling thats at around £120 ish! not too bad huh! obviously the postage costs would add to that, i'd estimate around £20 there and £20 back (Ive just sold my other XDA2i to a US buyer and insured postage was around £20)
qube62 says he/she got it fixed for £160. The O2 repair centre I went to said £210 for a replacement XDA2i screen, So im thinking maybe qube62 only had a smashed 'touchscreen' and not a 'smashed LCD' !!
- I'll try just sending it off through O2 and 'see' if they fix mine for like £160!
Else I suppose I could just take my xda2i to the US on my next visit and see if they can fix it whilst im there!
if that doesnt come about - then I think i'll claim off my home insurance!
Oh and just to rub salt into my wound.. my dam aluminium xda2i case arrived today !!!! typical !!!
Dennis! West London UK!!

i got a quote from this place for 160 n they said they will send me a package thing so i could put it in there n send it out to them...
but im not too sure about 160...thas too much i might jus stick to my 3100 for now n allow xda...

What would you do?!!insurance are paying £450!need opinions!

Hi all!
My phone insurance just notified me as they are unable to source a new Xda2i they will instead send me a cheque for £450. I can basically spend it how I wish, but I'm resisting the temptation to go out and buy a set of wheels for my new car!
I have the car holder, sync cable, aluminium case etc all for an Xda2i - so I think I'll Ebay myself an Xda2i for around £150-180 ish.
Or do I go for an Exec at around £400 ish?
Or do I go for a K Jam/ Wizard for around £350 AND get an Xda2i ?
Or shall i try out the Ipaq equivalent?
what do you guys think ?!!
cheers!
Dennis! West London UK! (oh - and respond to my 2GB topic below!!)
A lot of Beer
OR
I would get the XDA IIi and then wait a couple of months for the Hermes (K-JAM update)....
But I definately would not go for the Universal as it's way too big... I had one but gave it to my father. He uses it for push mail, etc; not really as a phone!
Your money, your choice. Tell us what you do buy...
Thanks

So close yet so far!

Hey everyone
What is your worst experience with someone?
Mine is, funnily enough, related to an XDA that I bought off eBay...
I sold my XDA Orbit 1 to a friend of mine for £167
After I had collected a decent amount of money, I found an XDA Orbit 2 on eBay for £257.50 including postage. Auction said brand new factory sealed xda orbit 2, with pouch, charger, box, co pilot 7, and it listed all the features for the xda orbit 2. Seller had 100% positive feedback (115) and was from Essex. Seemed pretty decent.
Bought the item...a week later. No emails, no item. Had to call their house multiple times and everytime I would call, someone else would answer and I could never get to speak to the seller (he was always at 'work').
Eventually I get an email from the seller....'sorry I couldn't send the item any sooner, my account had somehow messed up and I needed to reset the password. Item will be sent tommorow'.
Great! So I should be expecting the item soon. I go to school next day, and when I get picked up to go home I ask 'did anything come in the post for me today?'. The reply I got was: 'Yes, a parcel'. YES! The orbit 2 has finally come! After about 1 and a half weeks of waiting its finally here!
I rush home banging my knee on the way in (im soo anxious!). I look past the door and see a big, brown parcel addressed to me. I grab it, run to the living room and rip the packaging to shreads!
I have removed all the packaging, and take the box...I turn it over only too see it say: 'XDA Orbit' with the picture of the XDA Orbit 1 on it. Thats right, the seller sent me an XDA Orbit 1 and not the XDA Orbit 2! He sent me a Artemis and not a Polaris! He didn't even include the memory card for the CoPilot 7, or the USB cable for the PDA, handsfree kit, pouch, etc. All missing!
Nnooo!!! I paid £250.00 for something thats worth £120.00!
I sent the seller an email and got a reply soon after. He said sorry just return the item if your not happy with it.
Posted it off today, so I should be expecting the refund.
Oh well, it happens and it will happen to everyone some day!
So whats your worst experience with someone? I bet people will mention alot of stuff to do with eBay aswell!
NEVER buy anything off ebay. people have recieved fake chinese mp3/mp4 players instead of ipod nano.
when you see unexpectedly low price, just don't bother yourself.
i bought my athena from here, £260 with blocked imei, great price at the time, as i alredy had a phone for calling...
paid through paypal, and it came a day later by special delivery.
When I sold mine, i made the mistake of selling to italy, and it didnt arrive. it might well have arrived but he said it didnt, and the post offiice said i couldnt post a phone recorded to italy, so no tracking number, and me with no money and no athena
but i guess it wasnt really an ebay prob...
Also, i bought a psp from ebay when I was like 13, and the guy stole 75 quid off me... luckily i got some back, but not all of it.
In fairness, ebay generally is good, i picked up a 5m gold plated 2 rca to 3.5mm jack for 2 quic including postage...
so its if you wana take the risk on big things...
Rory
i bought a faulty hdd TV recorder second hand which didn't work from an eBay seller.

hmm i wudnt totaly agree i bourt my HTC TyTN off ebay ages ago for £100 quid....i was convinced it was going to be rubbish probly with bustted buttons and stuff hanging off it u know the drill....
....i was completly wrong it came like it was brand new! id say the only thing wrong was that it didnt come with earphones and it had a small dent in top left but it is unnoticeable
but i do agree it is very hard to get cheap stuff without it being fake!
Tell me about it...
I've had loads of problems with eBay, not just the one with the XDA.
Once I bought a remote controlled BB tank from a business seller. He was advertising it as 'BRAND NEW'.
When it came, it was opened, the BB pellets were scattered all over the box, clearly second hand, when I tried to use it, it literally broke after 10 seconds! Someone tried glueing the wheel back on as it had broke!
It was so crap aswell, it didn't even fire that good! The remote control sometimes didn't work aswell!
Another time I bought a 1/6 scale electric rc car. It was massive but after literally 12 hours of charging the battery it would only run for 15 minutes - It would considerably slow down after the 3 minutes! The rest of the 12 minutes it would be slow and then after that it wouldn't run at all!
I was driving it and it skidded on some ice, and smashed into little pieces after it hit a parked car! Lmao as funny as it seems now, it was kinda annoying back in the time!
Another time I bought a slingshot which snapped after a month
I bought some rifle mounts for my air rifle scope which were advertised as 30mm, but when they came they were too big!
And just now I have found out that a 2Gb memory card I bought is fake!
I don't even do much transactions on eBay aswell! I've only bought about 30 items from there!
Anyway the moral of the short stories are...don't spend any more than £15.00 when buying from eBay! That way when it messes up you won't kick yourself as hard!
Also you should know, don't SELL on eBay either. You get stupid buyers who will buy the item, leave you good feedback and then a month or two later issue a chargeback on their credit card! People even try and scam you to get your items!
By the way I have just noticed, I have exessively used the exclamation mark in this post (!) LOL

Wizard Stolen=[

My 8125 got stolen today. I set it down in the little boxes u put ur keys and phones in while you workout. When i was done I found myself with no phone. Kind of sucks, dont have enough money to buy another smartphone, ill try nad check out ebay to see how cheap they can get.
sorry to hear mate, some people are scumbags! cant get something nice of their own so they steal it....
check ebay - some xda mini S' s (o2 uk wizards) go for £80?
so keep an eye and depending if you are willing to pay postage check out other international ebays.

personally i dont trust people who put other phone names to boost interest because it shows they are desperate to sell..
but still as an example
hey thanks, i actually just bought one for $85 new from guy on Craigslist.com.

the trick is to put a quid in a door and lock it

I hope that was a face-to-face sale, or else I wouldn't be suprised if you just lost $85 in addition to your stolen Wizard. Craigslist is notorious for mail scams and a lot riskier than ebay for mail items.

Last time I put Quid in the Machine, They put up a sign that said "American Currency Only." Capitalist Scumbags!

yes it was a face to face transaction. ive gone through way to many scams on that site, surprised to find out that this one wasnt.
3 Times Over
My phone got stolen 3 times last year (mugged each time). First was a Motorolla MPx200 (2am on the streets, stupid stupid stupid). Second was iMate SP5 (midday, but in the dodgiest part of town) and third was my iMate JAM (once again, midday, but relatively safe area). Cops caught up with the JAM pretty easily - it was probably the only JAM with WM5 in South Africa . It was already blacklisted though: oh well.
The first two devices were free (my boet works at M$ so he has regular throwaways) and the last only cost me R(rand) 1500 from a chap at work. My new K-JAM was a bit more expensive, but very well worth it!!! Got TNT running on it, and I'm kinda grateful that the first 3 devices got stolen - I am so happy with the K-JAM.
South Africa, the country of crime. Bout time I wrote a client to track the device and bake it in a ROM. I wonder what APIs google maps mobile uses to find out what tower you are at: would be a kicker tool and much more complicated than the average mugger can circumvent.

What are the chances..

if I buy a new diamond its going to have the yellow spotting issue again?
My first diamond, was going in for repair to HTC America, got stolen. The box actually arrived (sealed) empty at HTC -
Canadapost OR USPS = THIEVES
I had insured my phone for $700.
Regardless, I know there are the new phones out such as the touch hd and the g1, but I still have a soft spot for the diamond - the size/looks are just great.
I'm just scared I'm going to have a faulty screen once again, either with spots, misaligned, or even a yellowish tint.
What is the solution?
well i don't know what you're talking about cause i've never had the issue and never read about anyone having it either, but it seems to me that it was a faulty screen that is normally covered by your warranty .. so nothing that can't be fixed.
off-topic: wait, what ? usps thieves ? i'm asking a friend to send me watches totaling up to 600 $, should i trust them ?
Here, read on if you are interested:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411487&highlight=yellowish
As far as the shipping company being thieves, well someone stole it.
I shipped through Canadapost here which transfers to USPS in the US.
The box arrived there empty, not like it didn't make it. So if you are shipping something that valuable, then insurance should not be a question.
