Hi all
I bought my phone yesterday and it arrived at 8:50am this morning!
very happy with it so far (although having problems with wifi internet access)
Anyhow, I don't want to break any forum rules (so if you're an admin and this IS breaking the rules, please remove it and I'll find out that way).
I looked around for a good deal and the above was VERY good compared to everywhere else.
Not sure if this is old news to everyone on here but if it's not and you want the details (and it's not againt forum rules) let me know and I'll post the details of where I got it from.
Please note that I am a CUSTOMER and am in now way affiliated with the company from whome I bought the phone...or the network either!
Cheers
Wayne
That sounds like buymobilephones.net to me. They've go the same good offer too.
Although if your a very light user this is tosh at GBP439.99 a year inc phone.
Where as O2's O2 leisure time plus with 100 texts + Promo 12mths for GBP20 a month and GBP99.99 for the phone is alot cheaper option for GBP339.99
Guess what i went for and I'm still using my old Genie SIM.
yep, that's where I got it.
Not sure where u got ya figures from though...as I'll be downgrading my tarriff asap - and I didn't have to shell out £99 for the handset
Each to their own though
Cheers
Wayne
If you look on their site you'll see other tarriff's where the cost of the phone increases when your monthly bill decreases.
35(line rental) x 12(months) = 420 + 19.99(phone) = 439.99(TOTAL)
or
20(line rental) x 12(months) = 240 + 99.99(phone) = 339.99(TOTAL)
You have to be careful as some tarriff's can not be downgraded no matter how much pleading you do.
Not this tarriff.
Take a read on the FAQ section followed by the TnC's for both BuyMobilePhones.net and O2
Cheers

This may sound like a stupid question but is there any diff between QTEC 2020i and XDA IIi? Spec wise they look identical is it just branding?
Also the Himalaya forum description suggests that the O2 XDA IIi is an updated Himalya called Andes however the Alpine forum description also suggests the XDA IIi is an alpine. Which is accurate and is the XDA IIi seen as an improved Himalya? If so is it a matter of time before the Alpine will have WM 2005?
Sorry to bombard you with questions I am just in the middle of deciding what to buy and the QTEC is favourite if the spec is the same as O2 XDA IIi.
TIA,
JamieT
The QTEK 2020i is the XDA IIi, the only different being the firmware, which you can change to the XDA IIi or I-mate PDA2 versions.
If you get the Qtek 2020i I do recommend you to upgrade it ASAP.
Other than that the only noticeable difference is the writing on the unit and the leather pouch.
Hope that helps you JamieT.

Why upgrade it?
I've been running on the standard firmware since I got the phone a week ago and I've had no noticeable problems with calls, general functions or BT (using Sony Ericsson HTH-600 headset).
Apart from that, I would know where to start with upgrading...roms, radios...it's all gobble-di-gook to me
Cheers

I found mine to be unstable, but then again mine is a month and a half or so older than yours so they may have updated yours at production.
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'll be ordering a QTEC. WRT upgrading I noticed that buymobilephones.net had posted some qtec rom upgrades as free to all, do you mean that typw of flash upgrade?
Just another quick question? Is the QTEC / XDA IIi seen as an upgrade to the Himalaya (XDA II) as the sales guy (and O2 website) says it is better spec. But when asking about upgrading an XDA IIi to WM2005 using th Himalaya instructions one reply back implied the XDA IIi is inferior (the comment went along the lines of putting a Lambourghini engine - WM 2005 into a Jaguar).
Does anyone know if someone is working on a WM 2005 rom upgrade for the XDA IIi QTEC 2020i. I guess I should wait until it is out of warranty before I attempt this anyway so I can probably wait a while.
TIA,
JamieT
As far as I know WM'05 is not possible yet for XDAIIi/2020i/PDA2

i was looking around the net for info regarding the Windows Mobile 2005 on the XDA2i - PDA2 etc.
As i have a XDA2i i emailed O2 asking them if the have any plans for Windows 2005 for their XDA2i ...here is what they wrote back
Hello,
Thank you for your email,
O2 are not planning to release WM 2005 for the XDA 2i or under, only newer devices such as the XDA Exec and future models.
If you did change the operating system of the XDA 2i this would void the warranty with O2.

What do people think?????
RE: Letter from 02
The usual crappy answer from 02. I just send them an email every now and again to ask for wm2005 upgrade, never get an answer. Thats probably because 02 are money grabbing idiots who don't know anything about looking after the customers. Their support is terrible need I go on.............. Maybe if they get some decent management this will change, don't hold your breath!
yeah i got the same reply
as far as i'm concerned they should at lest supply us with a decent rom upgrade
I emailed them a while ago with some stats from the petition i setup and i still have not recived any reply from them either way.
I know companies have to make money but i really think the XDA2i should have a WM2005 operating system, but such is life ... will be the last contract i take out with O2 not just for the ROM situ but i dont think their signal is as god as Vodaphone ....
I'm watching an auction right now for what the seller claims is an XDA IIi running wm5.
I contacting him asking about it, basically asking if he was SURE it was an XDA IIi , not a II, he said yes, apparently he's upgraded an XDA II with faulty mainboard with an XDA IIi mainboard ???
Anyway, I'll post the link to the auction after I've won it or it's over (cos I want a good price if I can get it!

Be careful that there are so many types of XDAIIi in the world. Some of their appearance is exactly the same as XDAIIi but inside is PH10B (XDA2/andes) other than PH10C (XDA2i/alpine with wifi/520CPU/128128ramrom)
Ask him to take a picture of the device info screen and see if it's a 400mhz or 520mhz CPU.
how could he said XDA IIi running WM5??? here got many expert and everybody know....there's no WM5 yet for Alpine.
wait until buzz got an alpine......

Actually, there is WM5 on Alpine, but some dudes dont want to spread it coz of their bullshits, i been looking around on buzzdev.net, and readed in some thread that there is WM5 for Alpine, but not posted yet coz of some xx reasons!
Want to post a link to that? All I have seen is someone that supposedly put an HTC Universal ROM onto the Alpine.
I don't believe he managed it personally as he said he reformatted the ROM to 128mb, well for a start, that would have killed the OS itself, and boot loader, and ext rom, so he couldn't have done what he said.
hi to all
i want to know what is the difference between htc alpine series
is any difference between xda IIi , Qtek 2020i & i-mate pda2
i know that all of these model are from HTC and the hardware is same
but in performance which one is good
i can buy xdaIIi for 600 Euro & qtek 2020i for 560 Euro
finally i want to know which one is good to buy
thank for your help
They are all the same phone. The differences are cosmetic and slightly different extra software installed. To be honest, go with the cheapest as after a month or so on here you will probably end up making your own rom for it anyway. So many others have.
Hi;
I have been searching for a good pda to buy but haven't decided which one to buy yet.
I was more likely to buy a xda2i but then I read some of the posts here and got the feeling that most of the users are not satisfied with the xda2i.
Do you recommend me buy a xda2i or do you think imate pda2k is better?
Since xda2i and imate pda2k are very expensive in Turkey ,I really would like to hear your objective suggestions&comments on both xda2i and imate pda2k.
I really need that info before deciding which yo choose.
Thx

Hi,
I have a XDA IIi, now. I bought it two months ago. I like it too much and up to now, it has never had any problems. I used to have some pocket phones and now I don't want to change it. It's my opinion.
Think of it carefully before deciding.
Bye.
I like damn much my device but for your information, there's no upgrade to WM5 for this device. I think it will be available one day....
buy the 2i and flash it with pugs rom, the most stablest u'll find
It is wonderful. you will not regret it
Thx for the feedback.
One more question pls:
Can't I upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0?
Why?
Thx
melih
as of now -- you can't.
all are hoping like hell that it will be possible one of these days
Melih,
I was also conufed which pda from 2i or PDA2k should i buy since last 2 week. at last i decided to buy XDA2i
Reasons:
1) Faster Processor
2) 1.3 MP Camera
3) Good Shape
4) latest model as compare to PDA2K (2004 Q3) while 2i released in 2004 Q4
i think the only + point of PDA2k is QWERTY keyborad, but it is once if damage due to slim sliding what to do ? , small keys , so i can live without that keyboard (good to have BT keyboard , that i can use with my PC as well)
I dont know what i have lost by not having MP3 ringtone in 2i
Now all upto you i am satisfied what i have purchased
The 2i will play MP3s as ringtones. Place them in the "Windows\Rings" folder.
Thanks Pug ,
Any solid fix for camera? I disappointed by its output (see attachment as it took in day light and not good in quality)

I got one on launch day. In short, by far the best WM phone ive ever owned... very nicely built, stable, lots of memory, bonus GPS (seems as good a SIRF3 chipset to me...), good reception. TMob obviously give the best tarifs for data, and their customer services are lovely and helpful.
Not sure if the TomTom demo came on the CD or on the rom - i suspect the CD, so im guessing no to the tomtom question
Go for it - you wont be disapointed
g
You don't get the full TomTom with the HTC version anyway - it's just a "tryout" I believe.
I love my Vario 3 - best WM phone I've owned. Enough memory to not have to worry about closing things down, (mostly) quick. Lovely bit of kit.
Flashing HTC ROM

I have the T-Mobile Vario III and I flashed HTC rom. T Mobile rom doesn't have TomTom 6. Flashing back to HTC rom will not help since it's (TomTom 6) not a part of the official rom.
Search and Read the wiki for more details. Also Pof has given a very good step by step method to HardSPL your device. See his post and if possible read all before you flash new rom.
Good Luck

Vijeta
I believe the Tomtom App is full it is just the map that you will need to purchase as they only give you a demo of a map that you have to download when registering.
thanks
Thanks for the speedy reply guys. Will have the Vario III in the morning.
Will make sure i get the insurance just the case the cooking goes wrong.
