Hi BA people,
I've spoken with my friend that has a Hymalaya (QTEK 2020) device, and he was joking me about all the trouble I have with the BA. It has a perfect bluetooth device that works with a lot of headset without noise, WM2005 already installed and working, very rare softresets, and spend less money than me. Amazing thing, I don't use wifi and so...
Franky, it seems to me that this device is a fake.
No people is working anymore on bluetooth that is dead by month and month, stopped at BT3900 and after 6 month I'm still unable to use my motorola HS801 headset that is lying in a corner with a lot of dust.
I was wrong when I buy this QTEK 9090, the older model was better. I think that I will not make the same error another time. Bye Bye HTC.
Sorry to hear that
I'm sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with BA. I'll admit that it has some bugs, but I'm happy since I use WiFi far more than Bluetooth. I almost bought a Treo 650 or Xda Mini, but WiFi was the deciding factor for me.
Hope they fix the Bluetooth problems with headsets though. I had a Nokia headset from my old phone and I couldn't use it with my IIs. At least sharing files through Bluetooth isn't a problem anymore.
contrary to the first poster..
i actually bought this phone knowing its problems...
Solving the problems one by one through the forums is one of the fun things that an xda2s / BA owner can do..
Everyday , I am discovering something new about the BA device.
I guess if I wanted a regular phone that already worked as it should...
I'd have sticked with my Nokia 6600.
Now I have a BA device which has inherrent problems, which forces me to read up the forums here and get really technical about the phone..
This actually made me love the phone more...
Hey guys,
It's so strange...
I know a lot of people aren't satisfied with the Phone or BT on a BA.
I have an SX-66, two weeks now, and it's working so well.
I can pair up with my BT GPS device 100% of the time, with NO problems at all. No need to repair when I turn off unit, etc. etc.
I used to have lots of problems with my HP.
The SX-66 is great.
Also, in terms of a phone, I am also truly happy with it.
I am in my basement and get 40% or 20% signal strength, and I can actually talk on it.
With my old cell phones T-616, Motorolla 720,... no way they would work in the basement.
Very strange how people have so many problems...
This device is 100% great in my books.. (and I am very very fussy!)
Also, since I installed MS Voice Command 1.5... WOW... it is easier to use than any Cell phone i had in my life!
M
I agree with the first poster - I too have a Motorola HS801 which I can't get working properly on my O2 XDA IIs. Highly annoying, but I don't want to risk buying another BT headset in case it doesn't work either!
I have had mine for almost a year now and I have had great success with it! It does have it's issues, but at least we are able to "fix" them ourselves. I use both the b/t and the wifi on a daily basis without any real problems.Btw,I use a motorola hs820 and it works very well for me.I have very few if any resets with the new radio. If I have any complaints about it,it would be with the Truefax.

I have been using a Sony Ericsson Akono 660 Bluetooth with the pda2k BT3900 radio 1.12 and firmware of 1.40 for the last 2 months and I have paired it once. It works really well. I have a coverage of about 10 feet from the pda2k in line of sight and about 4 to 5 feet if the pda2k is in the car and I am outside etc.
For those of you who are not aware of which BT headset to use. I had compiled a thread on www.clubimate.com sometime back which lists those headset (reported by users) which seemed to work and do the basics, ring when call comes in, answer or hang up the call etc.
I would suggest they you review this list before making a decision on buying any BT headset. I also believe that iMate has released a list of officially tested BT headsets known to work with pda2k etc.
good luck
I was considering the Jabra BT800 because their web site states that it's supported with the XDA IIs, but after seeing some comments from others in these forums, it's so hard to work out what to go for.
therock112, I'm sure we're all looking forward to seeing that list!
I have tried the various ROMs with my PDA2K and the BT headset (tried HS810 and 820) are so inconsistent. The BT headset is a great idea but poor with this PPC. I wonder if the Samsung i730 is my next hope.
also disapointed
yes guys to my regert i have to admit that the ba is quite a failer in all the meaning
whaen you pay for device around 700 us$ u expect a little more then we get
the bt the wifi and the problem that seem far far away to be solve so what the solution is just to show our finger up againt ba product what ever
the name is and if the manfacture and microsoft will not improve we shuld decide and if somebody want to have fun by solving problem each day he can use a simple math book!!!!!!
Hi albnigxda!!!!
Do not get nervous....I hv used PPCs since 1997, all that HP and compaq stuff,XDAI/II/IIi/mini/HP6365/ and now BA(PDA2K)
and I can assure that BA is the best....
I use SE HBH 65....no problems
Couple of times use Wi Fi at some malls and cafe shops...Just wonderful with battery and speed.
My BA has become more stable after installing latest O2 ROM and choosing the particular band frequency(1800 MHz in my case) and no bad signal problems...
Use lot lot of applications with 512 MB SD card....
With all the above and 120 calls per day on avrg with 1 hr of GPRS usage My battery lasts for 26-30 hrs(Of course, during day time I keep OFF the backlight, as I use MS voice command and it tells who is calling)
So keep.up and go ahead...u hv the Best Handset of the World....
I can tell u as I hv also used Sony Ericson p8xx/9xx Almost all Nokia symbian phones to the latest 6681.....and I can tell u none can match the preformance of BA...
I hope, this will encourage you.
Good Luck
Have pda 2k latest rom off imate site have gotten 40 feet line of site , out of site is not so good. us a jabra bt800 am on it all day i have more problems with blue tooth on my laptop then my phone have had 3 other ppcs before this one its the best by far.
Can anyone confirm if Tomtom works fine with MDA Vario?
I'll be purchasing a new software & GPS from Tomtom but their website doesn't list Vario as supported so thought I'd ask first!
Thanks,
It does work but it can be a bit fiddly. There are some guides around on what you need to do but give it a go first and look for them if you have problems.
As you can probably guess it does run noticeably slow. I've reverted back to using my old iPAQ 4150 just for GPS use and the difference in speed is extremely noticeable.
I've had Tomtom on my SPV C500 phone and the phone is 200MHz CPU. And it ran perfect & smooth.
My Vario is reporting as 195Mhz CPU, so it should be ok, I think?
Edit: TCPMP is reporting 165MHz - which is correct??
tomtom takes a few secs to start up, but runs very smoothly.
No problems with TomTom on my 8125 with my Belkin bluetooth GPS. Now Belkin's software? THAT would bring my Wizard to a halt.
Tom Tom works great on my Vario. reasonably easy to setup - check Tom Tom's website and do searches on this forum.
It's faster than my Palm treo 650 (312mhz processor) at re-calculating routes which is the most important thing to me. Not quite as fast as my old Palm Tungsten T3 was with a 400mhz processor, but close.
The sound is great, no extra amplification required, though I can put it through the car speakers using a tape adapter & a seidio 2.5-3.5mm jack adapter - sounds weird coming through the stereo.(i.e Jane has a much deeper voice!)
Playing windows media files when Tom Tom is running has been a little hit & miss- sometimes it works but then the sound stops - I think Tom Tom is not very well written in that it likes to use all the processor cycles & threads it can get its paws on, but, I might have had too many programs running - probably best to make sure that as many programs are closed & push email is turned off if you want to play mp3's as well as having tom tom on at the same time.
I would also suggest that you use a car charger as Tom Tom will drain your battery in approx. 4-5 hours of constant use.
I use the Brodit vertical active holder - works very well & connects to my BT sony Ericsson HCB-300 car kit and my Holux GPSlim GR-236 both at the same time - a novelty for a palm user!
Bottom line - recommended. Highly.
I used the omap overclock to ramp up the processor a little with tomtom even though it worked ok without overclocking runs even better now set at 220 .You can edit the skype overclock fix and insert the tomtom part into it, thus it automatically overclocks on tomtom start and reverts back on exit.
should add you will need resco or other file explorer utilty to edit the text.
i wanna buy a new bluetooth gps device for my xda IIi, but I can't decide what to buy..I'd pleased if u have any suggestions pls?
which one is most compatible? (I live in Istanbul,Turkey)
Is 16 channel ok or should I need a 32 channel device?
I heard that there's another popular gps software other than tomtom but I can't remember its name, are these devices compatible with most popular softwares or just tomtom?
Thx in advance..
I yhink that the best bluetooth PS receiver is Globalsat BT 339. It works flawlessly and is extremely sesitive to satellite signal. Another good aplication for GPS is Destinator 6.
i plan to buy a bluetooth gps receiver.
i just have some question before buying one
- will any bluetooth gps receiver work with niki? are there known receivers that will not work?
- i currently have a mapking software on niki and a map of my city, is the bluetooth gps receiver all i need for it to work? by work i mean it'll tell you where you are, where to go, etc...
thanks!
I have an adapt AD-350 bluetooth GPS receiver.
Works like a dime! It 'only' cost me 50 euro's (dixons, the netherlands).
Works with any app that can use GPS, (for all I know).

I use this, "http://www.bluenext.co.uk/bluetooth-gps/bn-806f-bluetooth-gps.html"
works real good, it's real fast, good battery and have the last chip sirf star III, and of course all this for a good price
How to setup
Could someone tell me how to setup GPS connection over Bluetooth? I have a Nokia GPS which was working on normal HTC Touch and I just can't get it work on Nike... This is what I did:
1. Turn on GPS
2. Turn on Bluetooth on Nike
3. Search for BT device, Nokia is found
4. Enter code
5. Select serial port (the only port offered)
6. I create an outgoing port (e.g. COM2) for Nokia (in settings/connections/setting/bluetooth)
7. I set GPS program port to the previously created outgoing port in setting/system/External GPS)
8. I set GPS port number in iGO...
What did I wrong? Please help me.
Thank you in advance
That's all correct. I can't see what's the problem there.
Me neither... On my old iPaq (WinMo 2003) is a lot easier to connect as there is a connect feature in Bluetooth manager. In WinMo 2006 there is no such possibility... How can a bluetooth connection to GPS initialized without iGO? How could I connect from Windows to test the connection?
mapping software
i live in the us where can i get a free mapping software with map? because i dont want to access any data...
Hi,
Does anybody know about a working bluetooth TMC-receiver for Leo? I need only TMC but I'm not really sure what I should buy. Maybe anybody of you has a working one - please tell me which one.
Big THX in advance!

HI, it´s possible to use the inside radio to recive tmc signal. But only with the cableheadset.
Is it already possible also with HD2? Last time I tried (3 days ago) hyperGPS was not suitable for HD2.
No, it is not yet possible to do so... I am waiting for this too...
De Wolfe: check gns-gmbh.com/index.php?id=80
GNS TrafficBox Plus FM9BT-C or its identical clone Navilock NL-324BTR (comes a little cheaper). Tested with HD2 + Navigon 7.3.6 and 7.4.0 PDA.
No HyperGPS/proprietary TMC yet.
I've tried Hypergps with my HD2 with no success
The starnge think is that Igo8 discovered TMC when Hypergps was set to port com 7 and GNS protocol. Unfortunately there was no way for me to set the correct FM frequency for RDS
TMC working with external BT GPS/TMC receivers
I got my new HTC HD2 a week ago. Igo8 runs exceptionally fast. I wanted to still use TMC data as well as I have paid for it (naviextras) and am used to it on my Pocket PC's (ipaq 3970, 5450, 5550 and 4700). I tried the HyperGPS route with the headset lead (you definitely need to plug a lead in to act as FM aerial). The only way I get TMC information working is to use either the GNS BT GPS/TMC receiver (GNS5843) or the Royaltek (RTG1001). I can either use internal GPS of HD2 (port 4 baud rate 57600) and get TMC from the BT GPS on port 2 at baud rate 57600. Port 2 seems to be the only option you get when you add (pair) the BT GPS devices and pick an external GPS port. I intend to generally use the internal GPS, but when in the car and going some distance or in bad weather if necessary will switch on the GNS 5843 go to igo8 setting/TMC pick GNS (protocol) port 2 and baud rate of 57600 (even though the manual says 38400). I get the message TMC Hardware detected and off It goes searching for RDS signals of the FM transmissions and extracts the TMC codes to integrate with your map and route. I have my GPS/TMC device semi permanently in the car (using velcro pads) by the windscreen or sun roof to get a better view of the sky for the satellites and the aerial suckered to the top of the windscreen so as not to have the FM signal blocked by the metal of the car's metal frame. Be aware that if you have a car with the 'athermic' windscreens that this will weaken all radio signals to your device (satellite, mobile & FM/RDS).
I better mention that I am in Northamptonshire in England in UK. You need to be in area that is covered by TMC carrying radio stations (non BBC), example are Classic FM and leicester sound, Heart FM, etc. etc..
Dear Mr de Wolfe
I use the "GNS TrafficBox FM9BT-C - Bluetooth TMC / TMCPro Empfänger mit KFZ zu USB Adapter" wich is a bloetooth tmc-module built in a car-charger.
It works pretty good, signal is ok with the short antenna and is very good with the cable-antenna. The charger is strong enough for the HD2 (wich is mentioned as problem in the comments of the website)
I got it from here: "http://www.pdamax.de/?art_nr=gn-003"
Greetings from Bavaria
esociarius
I can confirm the gns 5843 working. but i do have, after activating bluetooth, to connect the com2 manually. only activating bluetooth does not do the trick. the gns unit is paired but com2 does not connect. so igo does not find the tmc signal.
after manually connecting com 2 it works like a charm.
little annoyance and would like to find solution for it. if anyone knows.
example of sys.txt tmc setting for HTC HD2
I think you can get around this by adding some text to the sys.txt file under title of TMC and you state com port. Port 2 in our case.
[tmc]
port="" - comma separated port name and port number pairs for ex. "COM,1,COM,2,COM,3"
source="" - if it is not specified then the program tries to autodetect or the possible strings are
gns
royaltek
amaryllo
samsung
opentmc1
opentmc2
ngalik
eten
harman
gps_source= - 0 if the GPS and TMC receivers communicate on different ports, 1 if they share one port (for ex. GNS 5843 or Royaltek RTG1001)
But then it will always look for the BT GPS unit. Personally I prefer to switch the TMC section on only if I think I need to when in the car on a longer journey. So I use HD2's internal GPS (port 4) and external TMC (port 2 from GNS5843) Like I went to London on Friday (100miles away). Only in the centre of Canary wharf did the signal become confused. This would be because of the tall, close, glass and steel buildings making multipath GPS signals and only a small and narrow view of the sky immediately above. That is the situation when you put your BT GPS receiver at the sunroof glass looking straight up at sky instead of forward at the buildings blocking the signals from orbit.
Were you using your GNS GPS/TMC device for both signals or just the TMC? The above should cure your problem if you only use the GPS/TMC BT device on port 2.
I am using the internal GPS and bluetooth only for TMC. never had a prolem with lack of sattelite signal of the internal GPS in my car, so have no reason to use it other way.
I agree that the internal GPS receiver in the HD2 is very very powerful (sensitive). I get all 12 windows full of GPS signal even in the middle of my house and accuracy listed as 'high'. But I was just giving an insight to the worse case scenario I had the other day was in the middle of Canary Wharf because of the tall buildings . it would be the only place in the UK with the worst conditions for satellite reception.
The ideal and cheapest solution, for everyone, will be the solution for HyperGPS to work on HD2 with the 3.5mm aerial/headset lead plugged in. I even get a good FM signal through the 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead to connect HD2 to the audio input to the car system. If someone gets or sees the HyperGPS working on the HD2 for igo8 do please let us know. Thanks! in advance.
P.S. by the way ....where is this web site based? I just put this on at 1856 yet it displays at 0656. This site would therefore be ½ way around the world...... Ah! I just noticed there is the pm after it.
Just got my Navilock NL-324BTR. Paid just over £50 from Amazon.de. All is working well. The only niggle I have is that when iGO8 opens, it asks me to confirm the port that I want to use. If I do not select the port then hit "select" in time, the option screen disappears and it does not start.
Anyone any solutions?
To get that screen back you either just tap the BT button to get to that screen again or minimize Igo8 and tap start then Bluetooth then select your device. (I have moved the BT icon to the top (tap and hold) of the HD2 screen.
tomtom
Does anyone know whether there are any workarounds to use any of these tmc receivers with tomtom on the hd2. If not, can someone who used both tomtom and recent Igo give a short pros and cons of the two? I used Igo about 3-4 years ago and I did not like it plus I became used to tomtom.
what is reception quality of gns trafficbox tmc receiver?
Hi,
i am topaz (HTC touch diamond 2) owner and can use hypergps, however i find fm reception of topaz builtin tuner quite poor for tmc needs. In my citroen c5 (worst car for all sort of signals due to its athermic windscreen), tmc reception is poor. I have experimented with various antennas connected to extusb connector, however no real success.
I tried to get magnetic mount fm antena for car roof, but there isnt any available?!
Out of desperation i am now conisdering GNS traffic box (to many $$$...). As i understand there are two versions: lighter plug and external antenna version (both BT). I would buy one of these, and lighter plug seems practical, however i am afraid, that it would have poor recepetion due to athermic windscreen.
tomi
Hi tomi,
I have the GNS for the lighter-plug. The reception in my car (Ford Mondeo) is excellent with the long antenna and not bad with the short antenna - but in your case: I would buy the internal module, which is connected to the antenna of the car-radio, though you cannot take it out of your car.
Best regards
esociarius
Hi mihaid,
I have Tomtom on my second device, but I think there is no possibility to connect a tmc-module to tomtom - they want to sell their own tmc over internet-connection. This was one of the reasons, why I went back to Navigon, which works great on the hd2 (though the Navigon-support is poor).
Best regards
esociarius
For those with athermic front windscreens, place your BT GPS or TMC devices on the rear parcel shelf or attach to a sun/moon roof if you have one. An alternative position if you are a bit DIY is to place under the plastic in the aquarium between the bonnet and windscreen (usually has the windscreen wiper parts there too, needs power and insulation/ water proofing provided) tuck aerial along windscreen rubber).
