O2 Music - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Hi all,
When I upgraded my Qtek 2020i to the latest modified O2 rom I let it install all of the O2 active add-ons. After a week of software crashes etc I decided to hard reset and do a corporate install to get rid of the O2 active c**p. Unfortuneatly I forgot that during this week I tried out the O2 Active music player and bought a track from the store. When I did the corporate install it obviously did not install O2 Active music player so I can no longer play the track I downloaded. I am now faced with the dilema do I keep the corporate install and lose the track (a sum total of £1.50 lost  ) or do I re-install the O2 active stuff and put up with buggy software.
I would prefer the first choice but the tight g*t in me wants to be able to use the file that I purchased so can anyone help me and direct me towards some form of plugin to WMP mobile that enables it to play aacplus format (the format that O2 music uses) or some other software to play aacplus files.
Any help for this tight g*t will be much appreciated. .
TIA,
JamieT

Actually you don't. Just get on this ExtRom modifying apps and strip that O2 Active Music Player cab file from the ExtRom.

Panic over . After looking in the programs folder I found that O2 music was still installed. I didn't bother checking before because I assumed it was bundled in with all the other O2 active stuff.
Either O2 include the music player on corporate installs or PUG did something to modify the EXT partition on the modified rom image.
Thanks for the idea though, once I have more time I might get into this customising of ext partition

XDA2s Extended Rom Files Description

My shiny new XDA2s arrived today and now its time to get down to business. For me, this involves two things:
1. Unlock the d*mn thing (may not be as easy as it was for the old XDA2)
2. Strip out all the unnecessary O2 stuff that may get in the way being as that I'm on Orange.
I've not seen any posts here yet where people actually get into what file is for what on this baby, so if you have and idea, please clue us all in!
Just to be clear, we're talking about the new new XDA2s (i.e. Blue Angel)
Thanks
hope this helps
and this
Excellent, but I don't think the xda2unlocker works on the new XDA2s does it?
what does "UKORGCustomize.CAB" do ?????
Yep more info guys would be helpfull thanks you.
re files: it's more fun putting stuff on your phone when you don't know what it is!!!!!!!ORGUK is orange customization, i put it on mine, think it's GRASS screen, back-up, update.
hahah yea that can be fun, but it wont be fun to hard reset and reinstall everything... maybe if i was in highschool with nothing else better to dooooo
but by making mistakes you learn more. i know how to flash phone really easy now. life is too short, experiment!!!!!
yes yes i learned how to flash it too after 10 minutes but STILL, there are some damages (software-wise) that will screw up your phone so bad you wont be able to re-flash it...
anyone with the UK xda2s can post the Extended ROM cab files please?
thanks
XDA2s Extended Rom
John
xda2 s suck's
after using xda2,
i found xda 2s,
verry bad like the screen its i think 50% dull than the xda2
and the jabra bluetoot which worked fine with xda2 dosen't work well with 2s lot of hissing,
i am really unhappy with the screen quality,
so guy's and gal's stick to xda2 and pray that xda3 will have a crisp and clear screen and the bluetoot will work fine,
I agree with jaykumarr, the Blue Angel in it's present configuration is a lemon.
The only advantages being a slide out keyboard which I can live without and a wifi connection, which with the number of open wifi networks around can be handy.
The disadvantages being almost too many to mention - eg. poor sound quality, bluetooth doesn't work properly, poor screen, button lock unlocks when the os enlivens on any event, etc, etc.
sleepnow et al,
I really like the black enclosure of the XDA IIs over the the PDA2k or MDA III, but don't want to be tied down to the O2 ROM. In my case, I'd like to take an XDA IIs and:
1. Unlock it
2. Install either the MDA III T-Mobile ROM, or the PDA2k ROM.
Please keep us posted as to your progress, as it seems what you're trying to do here is similar.
I downloaded O2 extrom and put it in storage on my MDAIII . Did hard reset and soft reset before t-mobile etxrom loaded, then manually installed o2 extrom. I now have O2 XDAIIs, but with silver case :-(
Someone else who doesn't like the O2 software but likes the black case!
I've sat and played with the extended rom, on a IIs. Hard reset the thing, and then stopped the auto install and then run each of the cabs by itself to see what it does. I've got most of them, but not all of them.
Below is what I've got so far. Any mistakes, or additions let me know please.
Thanks

XDA2s ROM and Radio upgrade files
Can anyone post the latest ROM and Radio upgrade files for the XDA2s.....Please
I have a feeling that:
BA_cm_rm_map_o2_v3
Installs something that autocompletes the phone number/email of a contact when you start typing their name into the "To:" field of a text message/email.
At least, I upgraded my XDA IIs to the newer i-Mate ROM and it stopped doing this (although the new ROM means that pressing the message hard button no longer always brings up Outlook Mail - yay!). Installed that .cab from the O2 extended ROM, reset, and it started autocompleting names again.
If someone else could confirm that's what that cab does it'd be appreciated.
Chris.

XDA IIs ROM upgrade - June 2005 (english version)

hi guys,
i'm not sure if anyone has posted this but here I go...
has anyone tried using the XDA IIS rom upgrade of June 2005 posted at O2 website? I'm about to try it but I'm afraid to do it since there might be bugs on it.
would like to ask you guys if it's ok to upgrade to this ROM. Currently, my ROM is 1.12.62 WWE. As much as possible, I'm settling for O2 official releases but I just wanna make sure if this one's ok.
cheers!
Currently i'm using the latest update o2 Asia and so far it works really good except a little problem that i found with the camera that makes the brightness set to maximum. And also the HTC caller ID problem [ringtone and picture display doesn't work].
Overall, it runs smoothly.
I hope this helps.
does this mean that currently you don't have caller ID display and ringtone on your IIs?
cheers!
sometimes it's on and sometimes it's off, when it's off i rerun the caller id from the startup directory, or you can install 3rd party software like photo contacts.
Is this ROM ok to load onto a UK XDA IIs? Has anyone done this?
IIs user from Philippines
I flashed my IIs with the new official ROM.
I find it more stable than the old ROM plus other new features like WMPver.10. Well worth the upgrade. I could view videos of websites (eg.INQ7) which under the OLD ROM I cannot.
After the ROM and Radio Update, I uninstalled the O2Plus. I didnt noticed any increase in stability or speed after unistalling it though.
I also updated the Radio ROM to Ver.1.13 which I got from WIKI.xda-developers.com.
BTW, I got my IIs from Globe. I still retain the GPRS setting plus gain a new GPRS setting for my SUN SIM. ALSO, I use a DUAL SIM Adaptor which I bought from 3rd Glorietta Cell Stall. There is also GPRS Setting for SMART just in case you got yours from there.
You could also install the O2 II Plus, GPRS Counter and ZIP Manager from official O2 site. I dont use it as it slows down the IIs. I tried yesterday DKToday2.8 but it slows down a bit the IIs.
Only the following softwares are now installed (IIs is very stable and quick):
PshutXP
CorePlayer
Agile Mobile
Avantgo
ChessPPC
Skype
WordNet (dictionary)
In the Green Theme
Cai, Go ahead you will not go wrong. PM if you need help.
OVERALL, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE UPDATE.
thanks xcalibur! this is great news. I've really needed people's idea on the new rom of O2 before installing it, especially philippine users. I got mine from globe too...i'll try this then....
cheers!
O2 June 2005 version
I loaded the latest O2 Asia version recently. I was, too, apprehensive about bugs and the like. However, I haven't found anything but improvement in my XDA IIs performance up to now. I would recommend it.
I've been using the new O2 ROM since its release and I think it's garbage.
Slightly more rleiable than the previous version but my phone still requires resetting 3 times a day due to hang ups, freezing, crashing when trying to switch to landscape and so on.
If you intend to upgrade the radio to 1.13 then, use asia apparently i have done some testing. Tried o2uk,imate,qtek and once u upgrade the 1.13 for their rom, it causes the device to lag terribly. I would suggest you to do the upgrade to the ASIA version if you are intending to upgrade to 1.13 radio
else, i think any of the rest should be ok..
ASIA 1.40.923 WWE
I concur. The Asia WWE with the 1.13 is working well for me. Still have some problems with bluetooth out of memory and not being able to access BT manager, but over all the best combo I have used. Battery life seems much improved and switching between GPRS and Wi-Fi works very well on this ROM combo. Using in conjunction with phone Alarm (1.13] and AlarmToday. Auto profile switching and wake to music, all working well..
june update ???
am i being a bit thick ???
the only version i can see for download on the O2 uk site is the february update. Can someone supply a link straight to the download ???
swerver
That's the latest official one from O2 UK, but most of the other providers have already released their 1.40 versions, which are all available on the wiki site: www.wiki.xda-developers.com

Chris
June Update ???
At the top of this thread it says that the O2 site has the june update, he didnt mention WIKI site ????
Just tried the link you gave and it gave an error ???
swerver
I believe that the first poster is probably taling about the O2 Asia ROM that is on the O2 Asia site. As far as I know, O2 UK have not released their new 1.40 version yet.
The link I posted should have taken you to the companion site to this one, where all the various ROMs and upgrade tools are posted. Are you familiar with the wiki site¿ There is a direct link to it in the header of this thread I believe. Let me know if you have problems finding it.
Regards
Chris
hi guys,
i've seen the ROM upgrade from O2 asia site. It's found in www.seeo2.com.
regards!
Asian Rom upgrade 1.40 for Xda IIs
I really must be thick, but I cannot find the actual file to download. I am registered at seeo2.com, get to the instructions page on how to install it but somehow miss the actual link to install it! Can anyone help me with the actual download link or another site to download the file
Thanks Guys
Hi Smithy
There is a link at the top of this page to, www.wiki.xda-developers.com
Navigate there and follow the links to Blue Angel. All the shipped ROMS are posted on that site, plus the 1.13 radio, which I do not think is part of the original O2Asia ROM. I believe it only had 1.12
The site also has comprehensibe instructions on how to upgrade. Let us know if you get stuck.

I've recently upgraded my XDA IIs' ROM to the June 2005 version (1.40 something). The note on the O2 website indicates that we can set mp3 ringtones already. Here are my findings:
1) Under Phone in Settings/Personal, it still doesn't have the option of setting mp3s as ringtone, it seems to be looking for .wav files only.
2) The Photo Contacts that came with the phone has the option of choosing mp3s, it can even preview the file, but whenever I try dialling my phone using my friend's, it goes back to default, not just the default I have setup in Settings/Personal/Phone, it uses the Windows Default tone. How come? Can anyone shed some light on this one?
3) Are there any battle tested programs/apps out there which can activate the mp3 ringtones feature the new ROM promised, and that works with XDA IIs? Help! :?
Hi Yaozer
I have not seen where you can set a MP3 as a ringtone... The only files mine sees are .wav, wma and midi. I use phoneAlarm by PocketMax (www.pocketmax.net), which does allow you to set a wake up alarm that activates a MP3 file. The file has to be in main storage I believe. Activating one a a ringtone may be in a forthcoming version.

Chris

Unlock you Extended_Rom and Speed up you K-JAM!

During the installation (Customization) it installs a file called from the extended rom
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_Wiz_range
Which installs “eTrust Antivirus for Pocket Pc”
If you miss this out of the install no slow down etc
to remove the file you need total commander ppc.
install it on the k-jam run it and then at the top input \Extended_Rom\
and move the file to your storage card/other folder on the ppc, hardreset the device and no more slow down
** be careful what you delete tho as it could cause problems etc etc, which I can not be accountable for etc etc ***
Great tip! I saw it first on PocketDubai and alreay appled it. Device works right now, I mean actually WORKS
yeah that must of been were i read it first, could not find the link, but figured i would post it here in case anyone missed it
The antivirus software DOES NOT install itself in hard reset (on my imate k-jam and others too). If its not listed in your "remove programs" then its not installed. So all this talk of the k-jam speeding up when you remove the cab file from the extended rom is pointless. Unless of course there are different roms on the devices?
Paul
It's not on mine either , its on the SP5 in the program window but not on my K-Jam . UK Version.. Like the Jam maybe there are differnt external ROM builds???

It does install and consume memory/storage/processor. An easy experiment is to do a cold boot of your device, then look at the storage and memory utilization. Next remove the file indicated and do a cold boot. Examine the numbers again and you will find that they are higher. Ergo something has been removed. I would say that the AV program removes itself from the Installed software list as a means of preventing Viruses from spotting it.

It does install, but it hides from the add remove programs list as robinton says
Mine doesn't seem to have anything antivirus related installed as applications or in the registry.
Is this confirmed and working and how much faster does this make the k-jam/how noticable?
Thx.
does anybody know if the QTEK 9100 installs the same anti-virus software? Just received mine yesterday and think that it runs really slowly in comparison to my old Ipaq 3850!!
I appreciate that it isn't an "apples for apples" comparison, but my IPaq is over 3 years old and runs like a dream - even put TT5 on it and it runs better than on brand new Qtek! :?:
Install total commander and find out.
I have the Sprint PCS (CDMA, US) version of this phone. The extended ROM includes a program that hides everything it loads from the add/remove programs list. I'm assuming the other versions do to.
Unfortunately my extended ROM space is visible, but not writeable or erasable.
I'm wondering, before I try it, will the same technique work for the SkyPE?
Ok, I'll reply to my own post.
I installed Total Commander. I went to the Extended_Rom dir, and moved the av and skype out and into My Docs. Did a hard reset and wham! No more av or skype. Skype was a 2.6m file. Funny thing is, Looking in My Docs, I don't find them.
The device is a bit more peppy now.
I can't seem to find the file mentioned anywhere in my extended ROM. I've using the KJAM WWE 1.1.9.106 EXTENDED ROM version.
Any ideas?
oli
I have WWE 1.1.9.104 EXTENDED ROM, that could be why.

Problem with Xda_IIi_Upgrade_v111169 ?

Hi all,
I've just downloaded the latest ROM BIOS upgrade for my XDA2i (Xda_IIi_Upgrade_v111169) at the UK's O2 website which includes some Blueberry things I believe - but haven't checked yet. :?:
I think I may have found a small glitch if anyone can help. :?
The glitch is in Windows Media Player 10, as setup by a clean reinstall.
When I click on WMP10, it does not display a 'file open' option.
The 'file open' icon is 'greyed out' and only the icon which connects to Windows Media.com on the Internet works.
As usual I can double click on some media files (eg wmf, AVI) in File Explorer and have them open in WMP10 as expected, - but I wonder does anyone have a fix so I can make it work by opening files in WMP10 in the normal way?
Although I don't use WMP10 a lot, and prefer others, I would like to get it going because I believe it is cludgy or difficult to remove.
But I may be wrong....What do others think ?
Thanks
Open MP10
Goto (from Main Screen)
Menu/Library/Menu/Open File
Works for me
Whahey!!
Works great.
Thanks. Much appreciated!
Does it work when I use in different region (Asia)?
Hi all,
I'd like also to upgrade this rom v1.11.169 from O2 UK.
Does it work when I use in different region (Asia)?
Many thanks

HI Clickhari
I'm not an expert so my reply may not be accurate!
I rang up O2 and asked whether my XDA would work in Asian countries, and they said yes. (after ensuring my contract gave me access to international calls)
I asked whether it would still work with the upgrade, they said yes.
More than that I don't know. My approach would be backup everything, and then be able to install whichever works there.
If that's not what you meant, then maybe someone else can help.
wat is the improvement they provided inside this new ROM? i live in singapore, can somebody tell me is this can be use in asia?
Hi andriangunawan
 On the UK website http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_soft.html
(quote
The latest XDA IIi System Software is available for you to download.
New and changed in this version of software, v1.11.169 are:
BlackBerry Connect v2.0
This software is for Xda IIi in UK and Ireland.
German customers should visit: www.o2xda.de
Asia customers should visit: www.SeeO2.com
for ROM upgrades for those countries.
I don't use Blackberry but I took some screen dumps of the Blackberry setting if it helps. They are attached.
More than that I can't really say.

Hi!
I have down load this ROM and update to my PPC. But the Radio was v1.00.00 instead of my old version is v1.00.3. Finally I back to old vertion.
The new 02 upgrade only seems to have the Blackberry upgrade? Does anyone know if it contains any further fixes and if it does how can I upgrade the Radio portion to1.03, like the previous cooked 02 ROM?
Thanks
Found one answer, not possible to update to v1.03 radio, doesn't seem to work with new 02 ROM, I wonder if that is why 02 did not update radio themselves?

Need some help with options for caller ID announcements on my wifes T-Mobile MDA

I don't have the phone with me, so I haven't had a chance to determine if it's G3 or G4 yet. However, she's using the stock ROM with a couple extra programs and the phone has been very stable for about a year and a half now (new upgrade phone). However, she wants to have callers names announced over her BT kit in her car. She heard mine and wanted it. I'm using the Artemis with a cooked ROM running MS Voice Command with the "announce incoming calls" option checked. I tried to load up the version of MSVC that I got from this forum with the BTVM program included and it would not install on her phone. Got a couple weird messages, one of which said not enough memory and the other....something about not being signed or authorized or something. What was even more weird was that the CAB file I had on her storage card was deleted aft this attempt to install as well.
Anyway, I was thinking about upgrading to a lighter ROM so she can run this software. But I'm afraid of the phone having issues after the ROM upgrade. It's been very stable with no problems at all. So which ROMS do you suggest for a stable and light ROM? It doesn't need any programs at all. All she does is used MS Office, SmartKey and IE to access office email and play voice mails in wav format. I just don't want to change any of that.
Or is there a small program that I can install that will just give her caller ID announcements?
BTW she only has like 14Meg avail storage space left on her phone. I've used Clear Temp, the ROM is just full of junk from T-Mobile.
