Navigation software on xda 11i - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

help required.
I have xda11i and trying to get navigation on it. Could this be done? Would i be able to hook in any nav maps other than tom tom? any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm using MobileNavigator 5.1 by Navigon.com , works great on my XDA IIi!

I'm using TomTom 5.1 on O2 XDA2i.
I fixed the original POI problem and now works great flawlessy!!

I'm using both TomTom Navigator 5.1 and Navigon 5.
I prefer Navigon but TomTom is omoe customizable (also Navigon but you need to go to a German site...and I don't speak German )
@Collector
Did you have problems with POI ?

Go on E-bay, they have the cheapest (that i have found) GPS recivers that work on bluetooth.
There is free mapping software. I've got hold of a copy of Tom Tom software, which is brillient for use in the car, but some what expensive. There are cracks out there, if you look hard enough.

Try looking on Bearshare (download from http://www.bearshare.com/lite) for TomTom software. Everything is readily available there, even the new 5.21 update is cracked already!

TomTom and other maps...

I have a feeling that this will become quite a discussed post. The *taster* version of TT that comes with the Kaiser allows you to download only one map - and the selection is limited.
I have a TomTom Go in my car and was wondering if I can use the map data from there? I have all of Western Europe. Obviously I'll need a memory card capable of holding it but the real question is - can you use TT Go maps on TT Mobile?
R
I suspect that the maps are attached to a particular device.
Depends on the map version you have.
I guess the Kaiser has a version 6 Tomtom. Therefore you need at least map designed for that version.
In general the maps for the Go and the WM versions of TomTom are identical. Theoretically it should work.
BUT:
Apart from that you also need a device specific activation code belonging to the map/device combination. Your maps are obviously allready activated for your Go, so you cannot activate them on a second device.
Maybe the TomTom helpdesk (forum on their site) can help you out.
Taster version of TomTom with Kaiser......is it possible to uninstall it so that I can install my own tomtom which I have got on my current sd card in trinity, as it is activated and with all maps? I mean, is this tatser verison included in ROM or is it removable from settings?
Thanks

I believe i noticed in the "retail TyTN II unboxing" video, that TomTom resides on a CD with applications in the box.... So that would mean you have to install it yourself, and in that case you can go with your own full copy of TomTom...
What i would like to know is, if version 6.030 from my Trinity will run smoothly on the Kaiser...???

tomtotm isnt on the rom. so there will be no need to uninstall anything. just put your version on and use it. its supplied on the software disk. I'll be putting my own version of tomtom onmine when i get my micro sd card hopefully tomorrow
but the version on the CD Rom is the latest (6.0.32)
the 6.0.32 version of TTN6 is specific for WM devices with built-in GPS, like the Kaiser.
So, best option is to use the app from the kaiser package and your own maps.
I think you can just copy the map folder from the TomTom Go to an microSD card and see if it is working.
I bet it is.

Legally? No. TomTom licenses you maps per device, so what you have is licensed to your GO.
Practically? Yes. You'll need one of the many keygens out there....
Can you nav guys help. I've never used GPS with my TyTN. I'm considering a TyTN II and have some questions.
Can you use the built in GPR without an external antennae with Google Maps with the TyTN II? Or do you need the TomTom or other software?
I like using Google maps.

You don't need an antenna or extra software like tomtom. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly setting up the ports to use to get say Google Maps or other software to see the inbuilt GPS - but you get there in the end!

Mike:
Thanks again for your reply. I think I may pick up the TyTN II here pretty quickly. I just wanted to hear that the built in GPS actually does something.

What port are you using in Googlemaps? I've left it at auto, which doesn't work :S
Thanks!
People said that Googlemaps is not so friendly with long waiting to get satelite fix. So, Googlemaps tend to disconnect and wont tell you anything.
The workaround (not nice btw), is to start TomTom to get satelite fix, then quit.
After that Googlemaps will be able to connect to the GPS and works fine.
But, sorry for asking, what are the good things of Googlemaps compare to, let say TomTom or Route66, etc. Of course, it is FREE, but other than that?
Is Googlemaps available for all continent (Europe?) ?
bear in mind that google maps is an API, not just a web site.
It is possible to write location sharing apps etc for google maps, a mobile interface would be very cool.
Guys where on earth is the tomtom cab file for version 6? I only got 2 cd's, 1 applications which only has 3 apps (but not tomtom) and the starter cd which I did look all over? Is there more than 2 cd's?

I don't have Tomtom6 on any CDs either , I got the units from SuperiorGadgets, they are HTC Tytn II. And I tried Mapopolis, map4pda, igo 2007, Destinator 6, none can see GPS.
What is the hardware port? I checked the GPS CP app, it shows COM4: as software, none for hardware. I tried couple of settings there, none worked so far.

TomTom Navigator 6

Hi all,
I'm looking for a solution to install TomTom navigator on my Kaiser. I've downloaded the maps on the newsgroups, but I don't have the software ... Where can I find it ? On TomTom Home ?
It's so easy installing Garmin on Symbian, but TomTom, I'm lost.
Thanks

Talking street names for TomTom

is it posible to get talking street names for Tomtom7 on Tilt?
Hi
Yes I believe it is possible to have TTS on generic TomTom.
I have a small problem with voices. I am using a generic GPS with TomTom installed with 720.1868 version of Australian map installed. Works very well, but I would like to be able to have TTS. The version of TomTom supports TTS, but I cannot find how to instal computer voices, or find computer voices to instal, onto the Sd card. The original installation was done without using TTHome, so I have no idea how to use this, so simple instructions appreciated.
Thank you.

Well my room mate has tom tom 930 gps and the only voice in which he seem to get the street names is when he uses a particular voice, i have not tried that on my tilt with tom tom 7, i will try and put that voice on my phone and see if it tells me the street names and will get back to you
never mind just realised that the voices for tom tom mobile and tom tom stand alone gps are different.

See this vid for the 3 best working navigation systems on Diamond!

Nice initiative, but video is too blurry, I couldn't watch it all the way to the end. Sorry. =/
IGO8 Is the best navigation program for the Diamond. Any attempt to compare is useless.

Thanks.

Any attempt to use IGO if you're in the US is also useless, unfortunately. Hoping they come out with US maps eventually. Until then, TomTom will do it for me.
tomtom for me
used it from day one on my diamond
does all i need it for
GARMIN?
Never heard that you could get garmin navigation on phones.
Out of igo and ttni'd say tomtom7 is still the best.
any ideas where i can download garmin? torrents or rapidshare appreciated.
I use tomtom
I´ve tried IGo8 but i think its kind of messy i can´t find the functions and so on....
tomtom is more right foreward

I've just removed iGo 8 and put tomtom back on as both have the delay, but tomtom is sooooo much better.
You can find Garmin on the bay, though its v4. If you want v5 you can pm me for a "secret" link.
Tom Tom's routing is better I think after trying both programs on my Diamond. IGO8 sent me on a weird route over the clifton bridge in Bristol which it never announced as a toll route the other day. They both have the same delay. Tom Tom is much easier to use and less cluttered but IGO8 does look nice with the 3D maps and the graphics in the menu system. Also the spoken instructions in IGO 8 are clearer and more concise than Tomtom.
So, if you want a navigation system that looks nice then go for IGO8. If you want to get to A to B with confidence, which is what these programs are all about then go for Tomtom.
In my opinion of course!

Does iGo has maps for india?. I googled bt m not able to find ny.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
You can also try Papago X5. Its working like a charm on Gingerbread.
Give a try to copilot
For me there´s no replacement for Garmin because of the lackage of detailed maps of my country for the mentioned gps software (Papago, Igo, etc). That´s why I´m stick on WM and using android SD
I tested Papago, it´s a good gps software but the only maps I found were very basic, so...
In fact, I´m considering buying an android phone and a cheap Garmin gps (like nuvi 205).
I use CoPilot, also bought the license .. its the best navigation !

iGO free on the market??? Where?
Otherwise, i like iGO a lot. Everything is like 20x faster than Garmin and interface is nice.
But still nowhere to beat Garmin. It will show your position only on roads, voice navigation is a bit weird and it's nowhere as customizable as garmin.
Garmin announced software for iOS, but it will be online, so why bother. They failed completely at smartphone area.
sygic aura for sure

Google
Let´s stay in family, why not to use Google Maps which includes Google Navigation...also you can download full Google Maps (and lots of other maps) with Locus (market free)...
For Google Navigation just search for BrutMod Maps here in xda, or flash Hyperdroid...
wow nice. I never used google navigation since it needed data (i don't have data plan) and was not availble in my country anyway.
Is there a way to cache POIs, so you can search through them without internet connection?
Co-Pilot is good for UK coverage and you can de-activate WM licence and re-activate it in Android.
It also has a real time traffic option (only cost me £10 per year)
Bought the USA version for holidays for $10 and same for USA traffic great value compared to buying a TOMTOM/Garmin device
Co-Pilot looks the same as well on android as WM so easy to use and you use androids keyboard rather than abcd keyboard on WM
I prefer it to WM TomTom tbh as it is multi touch even in WM but TomTom device's HD Traffic is the best I have seen
I second Copilot Live 8. US-only for Android is a mere $4.99 at alk.com. Other places are all reasonably priced. Works perfectly on my HD2/Android 2.2.1.
