GSM to CDMA! Anyone with some spare time? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Is there anything you tech head gsm guys can do with your ba wm5 roms,
that would make them compatible, or at least bootable (in some limited way)
on our cdma's? It doesnt have to be pretty, or function worth a squirt... Currently we can get as far as "no gsm" and everything is halted... halted just like our dreams...
Can we (cdma's) do anything to help? Can someone with experience in solving problems like this lend a hand? PULLLLEEASSSSSSSSEE!!!!!!!
We are begging... BEGGING you, if there is some remote possibility...
if not then,
sorry for being a pain in the @$$.

Just wondering how much effort you have put in icohen2005, it would be nice to see any results from testing that you have carried out. By the way, this is not a commercial venture here on the board, its guys and gals giving time and effort and sometimes rendering their phones useless by pushing the limits. If you have something to offer then post it and lets all share, until then please keep your negative comments for those that like listening to groundless whining.

so do you think that?
i explain
they use software that doesnt exist so they develop it
they use knoledge that ist availaible and they find it
they test the software in their devices so somethimes they ruined it
they do all this for us users of htc devices for free
so please even befoure some of them make some software,or dig some information or get something for your device that inst ready for guys like you and me to use it not fair you give them a motive to stop
so if you think that please use your spare time and search for information about you device who knows you problaby find a magneto working version in you local store just dump the rom here they will make it work that i m sure of.......
i read somewhere here that a guy have it at hand and coulnd get to it how fustrating that may be that one deserve applause you just more work to do.....so stop complaining and get you hands dirty
hope never dies just me....

You have made people angry because there are people on this board who freely give up time, energy, and sometimes their devices just to help people on this board, and then you come on and state 'they're not trying' and that 'you can't believe' that it can't be done. Try it, and learn...
You suggest it would be easy just to port the hima wm2005 to your BA. By all means try, assuming you can write new drivers for most of the hardware, or obtain them from HTC  , write new MMS apps, etc etc. Or perhaps you'd rather have a device that doesn't work with half the software installed? Not sure I see the benefit.

Well if you're so unhappy with the product, why buy it, or why not send it back within the 14 days that most providers give you?
I purchased a BA and experienced the same as you, however with tinkering and with following the advice, freely given by members of this site, my machine's now much better. I don't just come on the board and whinge.
As for your performance problems - try reading the WIKI - lots of information there about how to remove o2 active ui etc, bluetooth patches etc. I rarely need to reset mine now!
i got the himalaya WM5 rom to flash to my device, but it was stuck in boot loader mode, so i flashed back to the 1.40 rom and all was ok. maybe i f'd up somewhere, but at least i got it flashed to my device. (oh, and for the slow, i own a Seimens SX66)

Is it worth it???

I just got the AT&T Tilt last Friday and have found myself pondering if it was worth the $300.00? I am thinking about taking it back because it seems to buggy. The phone its self is good looking but WM6 is just ugly compared to the iPhone interface. Anyways what do you think?
If aesthetics are you main concern, sure go with an iPhone. I like functionality over appearance, so I love my tilt!
yes it worth it, there is soooooo many apps that u can add, you can even upgrade from that cingular rom, i havent seen anyone with my tilt yet
Now come on... this is getting beyond a joke....You have an At&T Tilt, not a 'HTC TyTnII'
Please disclose your business affiliations as I am POSITIVE you are associated with apple as this is getting really stupid!
Who buys a very expensive phone without research then suddenly comes on this forum and denouces it within a few weeks without really trying it??
I am amazed!!!
OH, BTW I am not associated with HTC in any way and I find it a 100% piece of kit for what I wanted.
Amazing how many times you see "is it worth it to me" on forums. Who else but you could possibly answer if it's worth it to you???
hahahaha good point, Farsquidge......iphone=downgrade
First off I do not work for AT&T!!! I am a high school student that spent alot of time doing research on this phone! I love my "'HTC TyTnII" or whatever you want to call it! I only called it the Tilt for the simple fact that its branded name is the AT&T Tilt. This has to be the most unfriendly forum I have ever been on!
Dude you need to chill out. Swearing will get you banned. Everyone has their opinions about the iPhone and the Tilt. If you don't like someone else's opinions, just ignore them.
Personally I love the Tilt. The iPhone just doesn't do enough for me. Yes, it has a very nice interface but in the end, function wins over form.
If you want a pretty phone, go with the iPhone. If you want one that you can easily hack and tweak and load tons of 3rd party apps on, get the Tilt, but it is your choice to make, not ours to make for you.
In the end, you have to live with your choice.
P.S. I absolutely love my Tilt. It runs rings around the iPhone and I don't have to worry about Steve Jobs making my life difficult by not letting me do what I want with it.
Thank you. I think I will stay with my Tilt.

Please don't give up.. I know some of us (me for one!) can be a little short tempered with what is around on this forum at the moment (flaming the device!) but all of us on here would like to try to help you futher your unit!
I am sorry if I seemed to shoot you down at the start...
Let's move on from that...
You say you have a 'Tilt', first thing we can recommend is re-flashing your ROM to a HTC TyTnII as the AT&T is a very basic firmware but when you do this you will lose your AT&T settings ( that is your 3G HSDPA connection). Then you will need the latest Network settings cab.. Then lets move on from that!!! OK?
There are so many different roms witch is the one I need to use?
True, there are many. I like the att rom. it's not that bad. i just removed all of the bloatware on it by doing a soft reset after the hard reset and that freeed like 20 mb or so. btw, if you want to run different roms on the tilt, you must cid unlcok your tilt.
We need a few bits of info to start you off.
First, tell us the device (I know it may seem strange but we need to know who you bought it from ie At&T or whatever as this forum is worldwide!!)
Then when you first turn on the phone (turn it off by holding the power button!) try to get the OS and Radio versions it has. You may need to do this a couple of times as it disappears quickly.
If I am not online you will find loads of guys willing to help....
You have come into a great community that will work with you so long as we get the correct info...
I bought it from an AT&T store. The numbers are R1.27.12.11 G22.445.88.07h D1.57.00.00.
I need the same help here, thanks in advance
I will follow this thread since I have the same phone, same radio and OS, I'm very interested in getting a better ROM to see what are the PROS.
OK guys, have a good read at the WiKi...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
Especially at the 'How to flash a new ROM' section. It will give you a good aspect of what you will be doing..
I should have my tilt in a few days ( Amazon is the worst!). So I have been going around trying to gather as much information as possible on how customize my phone....Farsquidge, if I change my tilt interface to the TyTn11 interface I will lose my 3g? Also what is the benefit of changing? Also, I met alot of people who told me of good apps for my phone but is there a site where I can go where there is alot of apps with discriptions of what they do?

If you re-flash your 'Tilt' (as it is an AT&T carrier device) you will lose your AT&T connection settings.
You will end up with a 'Carrier free' device with (or) without sim unlock depending on the way you do it. You will then have to re-install these with a 'Network profile app' from this forum. You will find plenty of apps (in the form of .cab files) on here to keep you happy for ages!
Be patient because there are tons of guys on this forum who have reflashed their devices that will add their input to help you. No one is online all the time but will get to you when they can.
Thanks. The more I look on different forums, the more confused I get. I'm not to phone/computer savy so I have to do some research on the simple words and terms used up here. Thanks alot.
It takes a long time to get up to speed, I'm not close yet. Personally, I don't have a problem with the ATT rom, I guess b/c I haven't seen a flashed one to compare it to. I've added a bunch of fun/useful programs from this site, FFF and IMSMS are great ones and all the home customizations are very cool. The other day, I was beaming IMSMS to a friend. A stranger passing says "oh are we showing off our phones?" and yanks out his iphone hoping we'd be impressed. I said, "nope just beaming a file, do you want it too? Oops, guess you can't do that" You could see him deflate immediately. The iphone is neat to look at, but is so lacking in features and customization it's sad.

How do cooked roms differ?

Ho,
I am reading and getting more intrigued re flashing my TyTnII with a suitable ROM, after my holidy in July of couse as I really need it for that.
But can someone explain how a cooked ROM is able to out perform a stock one?
I dont get it? Take GPS for example. I read that it is the radio driver tha deals with this?
So how come a huge organisation like HTC puts a radio on the device and then someone off their own back is able to do something with the driver to make it more effiecient?
Or am I totally discombobulated and talking gaa gaa?

Well for one the software on Cooked ROMs is different. All the "Bloatware" is removed and some useful applications are cooked in.
As for radios there are many variaties (some ported from other devices) that perform better on different networks and different locations.
The radios arn't made by chefs, there just taken from different ROM's. I.e. some from the newest ATT Tilt, some from the Vodafone 6.1 ROM etc. etc.

HTC is a company with primary objective: making money
if you were HTC's owner, and assuming you want more and more money, would you release a product that is so perfect that nobody will never consider buying your next updated newer products? on the other hand, to attract customers to your current product you need to have amazing specifications listed in your marketing brochures (i.e. hardware features) which unfortunately can ONLY work with better "ingridients" of ROM (did somebody mention cooked ROMs ?)
ps: btw how old are you?

Further to this, HTC "forgot" the drivers for the hardware graphics acceleration for the MSM chipset. There not all that good.
Dave (BTW if you want my age you'll have to find it )
couple things you can do. You can flash a radio and you can flash a cooked rom. Different radios can give you different reception, and even faster GPS lock. You will have to experiment on which one works best, as long as the radio is compatible with the rom. A cooked rom has a lot of programs stripped out from OEM which makes the rom a lot faster than the OEM.
Excellent chaps, I am more inclined to have a go!
Mmm how old am I?
Well let's see beleive it or not I am a programmer for a large organisation but know jack about all this stuff in the same way I know jack about web creation or networks. But I do know about programming database applications and in my time have written a few nice graphics programs.
Now here's the thing....can you guess my age?
Have worked here for 25 years and worked my way up the ranks, been married for 22 years and have a 21 year old son.......
BTW why do you want to know how old I am?

How do cooked roms differ?
Well, to be honest, it's more about "usability / feel / look " than any other thing.
Original/Official roms are generally having an appalling feel and look. For example, take my network provider (Orange in UK). I had read a lot about TyTN_II (aka Tilt/Kaiser...etc.) before getting my own from Orange. The moment I unpacked the device and turned it on , I was completely disappointed. Orange engineers spend a lot of time "customizing" (i.e. ruining) the feel and look of the device so that it looks more Orange-ish.
Their fossil tech people bag their regular salary every month and are light years behind the current time. They have no desire/motivation to be innovative (that's why they do not realse a software update even every two years).
I received my SPVM3100 (aka TyTN) from Orange almost 3 years ago. Two and a half years later, when I received TyTN_II , I was shocked to see that they had loaded exactly the same bloatware and disgusting theme they had used on older HTC devices years ago.
xda rom developers are up-to-date; they are brilliant individuals who develop software out of their personal passion and love of technology. They know what is exactly going on in PDA community at this very moment. They listen to users' experiences in real life every day and they strive to make things look better, more practical and faster.
With an original/official rom you're stuck with what the HTC (or Orange, AT&T, Vodafone ...) developers put in your device ages ago. With cooked roms (depending on your actual use of the device) you have a variety of options to choose from.
And most important of all, you'll join the forum, get addicted to it, learn loads of new tweaks and work-arounds, and will see surprising new customized software almost every week.
Believe me, stay tuned in here and soon you'll notice that not only you're holding a completely different device in your hand, but also YOU will be a completely new user of the device ; a user more in command of the HTC you're carrying around
Welcome

I bought my TyTnII for £434 unlocked.
It has an Ornage sim card plus all the stuff I have loaed myself:
SBP Pocket Plus, Weather, Time etc and loads of German learning programs, speech and the like.
When I first came to this site I was put off as I did not fully grasp what it was all about, but that's me all over....should read the manual first
I really like the idea of flashing and getting rid of the bloatware as you call it and see how my device works afterwards.
But as I paid £434 for it if I brick it my wife will use said brick to remove my ability to father any heirs!!!!!
Yoinks!

Well, if you do have an issue, "Brick", there are a few people around that can revive you. If ever in need search around, there's a guy that has revived a plethora of dead kaisers, but I can't remember his name at the moment.
Anyway, as this really is not development related, I'm gonna move it to the general section.
Welcome to XDA.

Newbie Searching for help

Hi all, I've been reading through this forum for the past week now, partially because of all the bad reviews for the Tilt, and partially because I like my devices to work better than they "should".
I've reached a problem though... During my readings, I began to get confused with why this ROM or that ROM was flashed on, and which version of WinCE was on at the time the ROM was flashed. As my brand new-still in the box Tilt (With Win6.1) will be here this Thursday, I find myself wondering "So what do I do to make my phone better?"
This is my first smart phone I've ever had, and the main reason I purchased it is so I can write while in transit to work or such, occasionally watch a movie or listen to some music, oh, and to use the internet. Unfortunately, this also means I seem to have missed the class on safely flashing ROMs, if I need to sit and write down phone information that may not be stored on the SIM, and even the most basic of all, "Do I need to do this to make it run smoothly?" I mean, most of the problems I seem to see deal with Win 5.x, or 6.0.
I reckon the best way to phrase it is, "While I would like to make it better, I want to know if (1) it's worth taking the time to do, and (2) what kind of boost are we looking at? 10%? 50? 100%?"
Any opinions, help, advice, directions or links, how-to's or whatever would greatly be appreciated.

First Trey, let me say, welcome to XDA! The biggest improvment you can do to your Tilt is going to be a ROM upgrade! The ROM is the OS of your phone and as you are getting a newer tilt you will most likely have Windows Mobile 6.1 on it but it will include a quote\unquote "custom ROM" from at&t which will be chock full of alot of at&t stuff(advertising in the way of logos and animation) that will slow your phone down, as well as a CID (security lock) to keep you for installing most of the good free apps that are available for the tilt! You will want to spend alot of time reading here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835 and getting to know your device and what some of the terms used here are! I am usualy on the forum quite a bit and if you have questions feel free to PM me and ask away! The key is to read and learn, I will be happy to help if you need it!
Thanks for that! Everything makes more sense now that I've got that AT&T OS piece understood. Looks like I've got more reading to do. ^_^

Nothing will flash all stops at 0%

Im really begging to get pissed off with all of this crap not working i have a CDMA HTC touch diamond from cellular south.I CANNOT FLASH ANYTHING, no hard spl, no custom roms, no stock roms NOTHING!!and there is no help to be found and dont give me the "use the search feature crap".it all stops at 0 percent.
Dude chill out...
I'm in the same boat as you, to my knowledge the cellsouth diamond is a DIAM400 model # which is the same as the VZW model # & currently there is no hardspl that works on our diamonds, but there is one in the works if you search hard enough you would see that. Carpet flaming isn't going to convince anyone to go out of their way to lend you a hand. I am being patient in the knowledge that someone has the talent to do this and I dont have the time to develop that talent so I am going to show those people respect and follow the rules of this board, which is the best resource you will ever find on HTC Dev. So chill man and if you want something done quicker donate some moolah or learn how to program for yourself and everyone else.
well....
It just really get on my nerves when i sit there looking for a answer and everyone is....blah i cant even say it im not trying to be mean just trying to give em a little nudge if you know what i mean....well at least i found somone who understands my situation.and thx for the info u provided....makes me feel better BTW what are u using...rom,phone, carrier, ect
I am in the exactsame boat the only thing is mine is a telus touch diamond
You all are probably trying to flash everything that has to do with GSM diamonds. head over to ppcgeeks.com. there you will find everything you need for your CDMA diamonds
Mad
I dunno, I think you have a reason to be mad. Take the guy above, Fresh. He just strolls in here and runs his mouth about ppc geeks having something. Off he'll go never to be seen again leaving every DIAM400 owner excited and confused. After we waste a day, maybe a week looking we finally realize that the person didn't even read the main post.
PPCGeeks has nothing, I am tired of people heading everyone on wild goose chases. There is a gross misunderstanding and assumption that this phone is just a CDMA Diamond, it is not, it is a DIAM400, yes it is a diamond that runs on CDMA networks, but when most people refer to a CDMA Diamond they are actually refering to the DIAM500(Sprint/Alltel Diamond), which is actually a totally different phone.
Quick question to foo392 does your diamond have a Micro SD Card slot or 4Gb of internal storage? Take out the battery and there is also the model number.
If you have an SD Card slot you have the DIAM400 and Cmonex is working hard on a hardSPL for it so that we can flash custom roms. With out that you cannot flash custom roms.
If you search look for Diamond 400 or DIAM400 or Verizon Diamond. These are your best bet to find anything remotely useful.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554638
Hope this helps
make sure that you have .net framework 3.5 installed on your computer if you dont your install wont go past 0%
I'm jealous...
I'm kinda jealous you guys have an sd slot on your phones... As I'm running my energy 6.5 rom and have been playing with the cdma android build for my diam500 which is really coming along these days... You'll get your hard spl and then be flashing away soon enough. But seriously, I want expandable memory...
Hi you need to unlock it
Yea man, I bricked my diamond (500) the first time I tried flashing it. And I couldn't flash anything onto it at all. A few months later I tried flashing it again and it randomly worked, then I broke it
Anywho I just a new one from the insurance folks and I am having the same problem as you. It's unlocked and everything.
Go into the tri-color screen (Vol Down + Power +Reset) and make sure it says "security unlocked" on the top of the screen. If not you have to download the Diamond Unlocker which I have. But it follows the same flashing process so if that still doesn't do anything it has to be a connection issue. I can't flash crap right now and I'm anooooooyed as all hell!
LMK how it's going and I'll try my best to help you.
I totally forgot. when i seen cmonex that just hit me that u need to upgrade your spl. google search SPL .57 CMONEX and it should be in ppcgeeks forums. run that and then ur set. make sure you also have the framework. I used vista with the mobile device center also. Make sure it is unlocked too.
