I have an unlocked MDA Vario with Qtek ROM on it. I'd like to flash the ROM to i-Mate ROM. Even though it's an unlocked phone, I've read that the operator ID must also be changed/reset, whatever to flash to another brand ROM.
Does an unlocked phone imply the operator ID is "unlocked" too?
Could you have an unlocked phone & still have a unique operator ID perventing a successful ROM flash?
Is there a tool to just "unlock" the operator ID?
Much thanks,
Craig
PS. I can't figure out how to update my profile to show I'm a Wizard phone owner. My profile shows my previous XDA I and XDA II phones but no selection to modify current phone. Anyone know how to modify this?

I have mda 3 locked to t-mobile and they can't provide me with unlock code.
Is there any other way to unlock this device ?
http://www.t-mobile.hr/20/20-30-10-10-10.asp?sifra=TMMDA3&ponuda=V2
hi! i have a mda III, until now you only can get the unlock code by paying 15 pounds to T-Mobile. I tkink that soon will appear an unlock tool on this web page, like xda2unlock.exe for the XDA II.
Do you know if we could unlock the mda III by changing the entire ROM (including the extended rom and the radio rom) for the Qtek 9090 one? If someone knows it, please let us know. Thanks.
You can't unlock the phone by changing the rom.
Then, where the simlock is located? out of the ROM perhaps? I donĀ“t understand because all the devices (MDA III, Qtek 9090, Imate PDA2K...) are the same gadget and all come from HTC, so all its parts except for the ROM program would have to be equal. If you know the answer, please, let me know. Thanks.
where is the rom
Sure, the simlock is in the rom
so, changing the rom by sd card on boot loader is for me the solution
you have to test it
Could you be litle more specific about changing rom with sd card on MDA3 ?
Did you try this ?
Hi there,
Okay, this might sound a little basic question, but I will really appreciate if anyone can get me some answers on these.
I plan to buy a cingular 8125. I need to unlock this phone to be able to load my country's sim in it. However, even after unlocking, the phone will still have the original cingular ROM in it. Does the 8125 ROM, allow me to customize the GPRS settings ie. to be able to specify APN and other settings given to me by my cellular provider to use GPRS.
The reason for asking is becuase, long back when I was small I had a nokia6610 from tmobile. Even after unlocking, it simply didnt allow me to customize gprs access points as they were disabled in the software. I had to get it flash loaded with the original nokia software to get it to work.
Can anyone tell me if, even after unlocking I can still customize gprs settings for a different provider. Also, again if I wish to have the latest Kjam rom "K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship.zip" on this phone, is it required to remove the CID lock too ?
From my understanding, CID locks are required to be removed first on any HTC variant before being able to flash load imate kjam ROM in it.
I have researched a lot on net for this procedure for flashing latest ROM. Can any experienced gurus here tell me how easy/difficult it is. And also, if any problem can result in permanent damage to phone ?
Thanks for your help in advance.
YES. use aWizard or lokiwiz. I used aWizard. You can brick your device if you don't.
Hi Guys,
Firstly, i am new to this - so if i ask any stupid Q's, please forgive me
I will be getting my MDA Vario tomorrow, and before i do too much customisaton and transfer my phonebook over, i would like some advice on upgrading.
From reading this Forum, i believe that I have to do a CID unlock and a SIM unlock. I am familier with a SIM unlock, but what it a CID unlock?
Also, from what i can gather, in order to do this - i have to downgrade to an older version of the rom first. Once i have done this and unlocked the device, does anyone have any recomendations on what ROM i should upgrade it to? I have heard the Qtek rom is a good one, but will is this the best one to be going for?
Thanks for your input guys. You can be asured, once i get familier with this device i shall be providing much imput to this forum!

Hi, I'm new to WM5/vario as well (experienced on palms & treos).
You only need to unlock the wizard if you want to use another suppliers SIM card, and to get rid of the T-Mobile stuff you need to remove the Carrier ID (CID), so you can then change the rom to another one not recognised by your TMobile rom.
I understand, but could be wrong, that you only need to down grade if your device already has one of the latest a2dp stereo roms with push email built in.
Hope this helps (if I'm right)!!!
hi,
in a german forum i read, that only the cid unlocker which you had to pay for permanently gives you supercid status. now, i unlocked my trinity with the xda-developer version ''sspl'' for free, and want to restore the original condition, with locked cid, and original rom...
is this possible, and if it is, how?
kind regards, luki
ps: i used pofs method to unlock the trinity
Hi.
I'm searching for the same question and that's why I'm still on original WM5 ROM.
Mine is locked to Vodafone PT and I'm afraid to put another ROM like Dopod one, and if I got some problem, I don't know if it's possible to return the Trinity to the original state (CID) and send it back to waranty.
I keep an eye on this post and if you find some information, please put in here.
Good luck.
I don't think that you could CID locked your PPC !! But if it's just for going back to warranty...Often, they didn't see anything if you reinstall the original Rom ...

Are only branded trinitys cid locked ? what is cid lock ?
CID = Customer Identity
I don't know exactly why CIDs exist but i think it has something to do with licenses and stuff like this.
And no, original HTC devices have a CID lock too.
But @ shym I think you shuold watch out for the CID bypasser, I'm pretty sure it doesn't unlock your phone but you will be able to flash other ROMs anyway...
That's exactly what I'm looking for.
A way to flash another ROM, like Dopod or coocked one, and if I don't like or need to go back to WM5, just put the operator (Vodafone) original ROM and returnt it to warranty, if is the case (hope not)
Don't want to risk my Trinity to loose the warranty if the service found the phone was CID unlocked or else.
Anyone can provide me a link to the above mentioned ROM?
can find it anywhere, tried to download from Tmobile but it requires 10 digit phone number for verification,
thanks a lot

Besides, i have an unlocked t-mobile mda (G3). Would it become locked if i apply the new ROM?
Thank you for bearing with me.

Yes! its safe to download from rapidshare.G3 phone once CID unlocked remains unlocked ever after, flashing an official rom doesn't put a CID lock again
CID Locked!
Sorry for bothering again.
Wizard service tool (WST) is telling me that my phone is cid locked. But i am using it on another carrier (not tmobile) in pakistan. So is it really cid locked then? If it really is locked, is it advisable to upgrade the rom to the one provided by tmobile? I mean, is there any chance that it would become locked? or should i cid unlock it first (using WST) and then upgrade?
Thanks

Ok,I'll try to explain what is SIM_Lock and CID_Lock,they both are entirely different functions.
SIM_Lock:-
SIM is the abbrevation of Subscriber Identity Module . it Hold the IMSE (International Mobile Subscriber Identity ) and TMSI (Temparery Mobile Subscriber Identity)
Feature which would lock a phone to a specific network or set of networks. Used by providers that subsidize the phones to make sure the customers stay with the provider that got them the phone.
Some phones are locked to the specific telco from which you purchase your phone, eg you can't use a locked O2 phone using a Vodaphone SIM/smart card. To use SIM card from other telco, you need to SIM unlock your phone. Note: In general, the phrase 'unlock your phone' usually refers to SIM-unlock, not CID unlock.
In Pakistan,Phones are sold as SIM Unlocked, thats why any SIM of any Network works with them.
CID_Lock:-
Carrier Id - commonly used in the form `CID-Unlocking`. If you purchase your phone (example) from Qtek (Qtek is the 'carrier'), your phone will only accept Qtek ROMs (the carrier's ROMs). If you want to flash ROMs from other carrier, you'll need to CID-unlock your phone, so that your phone will accept other ROMs. Note: In general, the phrase 'unlock your phone' usually refers to SIM-unlock, not CID unlock.
So,Phones sold in Pakistan are usually SIM_Unlocked but they are not CID_Unlocked.
Now,if its running a T-mobile Rom (OS) then YES! you can upgrade to the latest T-Mobile rom, there's no need to CID_Unlock the phone, but if you want to upgrade to any latest Custom Build WM6.1 Rom,then definitely, you'll have to CID_Unlock the phone.
Thank you
Thank you
