I did everything to get some instructions, how to dump the files from the \Windows folder into my notebook, but unsuccessfully. Can anyone please help me,how to dump any files directly to a PC without using miniSD card? Any help will be appreciated.
you'll have to move them to a folder on your device and then to your pc/laptop.
ciao!

No mate. This is not the right way to get those files to a pc. It is impossible to copy/move any file from the ROM Image. The systém is not allowing that. Neighter inside the device nor via Activesync.

Sounds like that file is part of a multipart archive. In order to unzip/rar it you need to have downloaded all the parts and then unzip the one that has a .Zip or .Rar extention. (actually I've never done that on the Kaiser - multi part zips I have only done on the PC, but it may work ok?
Mike
PS
this is not an upgrading matter so it will be moved to the general Kaiser forum

I was downloading this file http://www.pocketemu.com/hhc-info.html the home customizer and is a zip format
OP,
Have you tried copying the application onto your laptop/computer and then connect your Kaiser via your USB cable to your computer/laptop, and try unzipping and installing.
Your computer/laptop should then install the application onto your Kaiser if connected

I understand, however, as the moderator has told you in a more complex manner, not all zip files can be opened as they are downloaded straight onto your phone, unless the required parts are extracted. It normally works for me by clicking on the zip file, which causes all the individual components to be exposed. I then click on the zip and rar files and it downloads with no problems. If this doesn't work, then try it through your computer
Connecting your phone to your laptop/computer via activesync and installing the zip onto your computer/laptop should work
Unfortunately, I can't find my activesync cd at the moment (which I need as I did a hard reset and so need to reinstall mobile centre) and so cannot try out the HTC Customiser app

The zip programme is there for you to download zip files. Some components of zip files cannot download onto your Kaiser as the zip programme only downloads zip and rar files. In this case, you only download the components which the zip programme recognises and allows you to download onto your phone.
Yes, having looked at this a little more, I feel that what you have downloaded is either an incomplete version of the file or a corrupted one. I say this because I have downloaded the Zip to my PC (size should be 2.01Mb). I then moved it in zipped form to the Kaiser and the zip program extracted it without problems. Hence, it is likely it is your download that's incomplete or corrupt. Worth downloading again, it's not unusual for a download done this way to be corrupted.

I have been searching for some programs for my XDA11i but although some just provide a link to download straight onto my XDA alot do not .
As you probably know many progs just give you a CAB file or winRAR folder I have no idea where to put it ... ie ... in the XDA windows folder , or temp folder etc ..
Sorry to be a pain but please keep the explanation SIMPLE !
Thanks .
I use my storage card as default.
Cab files go direct to the card.
I check to see if the RAR files need to be unpacked first then transfer to card in device
So I just copy and paste the files directly onto my SD storage card ??
Yep,
then you run them by double tapping and that is it....
Is that CAB files or WinRAR ones OR both ?

do not unpack cab files only unpack rar files on your pc, also many cab`s will only run from the phones memory not the sd card, just transfere them using activesync, select explore and drag and drop then run them from your phone with file manager buy clicking on them were u put them
Hello,
I just bought the new HTC Touch Diamond today from Telus Mobility (My Provider) and when I put on a program to install and try to open the .cab file in the File Explorer, it tries to open it in Opera Mobile and I cannot install the program.
I am using ActiveSync to transfer the files from my computer to the Internal Storage area of my phone, then I find the files using the File Explorer on the phone, click the .cab file and it tries to open it in Opera Mobile.
Anyone have any ideas?
P.S. I just tried a Soft Reset, and that didn't help.
Thanks in advance!!
Try to manually rename the files to "whatever.CAB." Add .cab to it and see if that'll get it working.
Hmm..
Okay, I tried that and it didn't work.
I am trying to install a program and the files it has is:
_setup - XML Document (I click on that to activate install?)
ADVANC~1.000
ADVANC~1
ADVANC~1.003
ADVANC~1.004
ADVANC~2.002
Hope this helps..
(Yes, I realize it's not a cab file >.< )
After reviewing the situation over. You are NOT supposed to extract the files, then put them on your phone. Leave them in the archive (.cab file), upload to your phone and then execute it.
It should start installing right away.
Hope this helps for anyone else!!
Some software I install is done with an .exe file from the PC. It seems like these programs simply dump the CAB onto the phone for install. Does anyone know where this CAB is on the phone so I can copy it for re-install later?
Doug M.
Check the location you installed on your PC, the cab is usually there too
I have a quick question. I dowloaded Xtract that game. And I extracted the zip and i dont see a .cab file anywhere. Only a setup.xml and a few other files.
Sometimes it goes into a temp folder, it depends on the software. If I see it mention a location during the install process I check that folder for the cab file.

Ohh nevermind. So with CABviaActiveSync I just click it and it will install to my phone?
Sometimes you can open up the .exe file with 7-zip and just extract the cab file. Or, if you have sk tools, you can re-pack the program into a cab with their 'installed programs' tool.

Hi Doug!
You can find the .cab file(s) in C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\XXXX
Where XXXX is the name of the software you have installed.
HTH
Thanks for the replies. This should speed-up some installs for me.
