Hi All,
I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere in the forum - but not for the lack of trying to find content on the subject. I have both the K-Jam (Wizard) & JasJar (Universal). I have the same problem on both devices; namely that ActiveSync always seems to pop up and is displayed as active in the Memory/MainMemory/Running Applications. Is there any way that this can be prevented? ActiveSync doesn't use that much memory - but it is a constant annoyance nonetheless. Any assistance will be appriciated. Thank you.
forumxda: presumably you mean on the PDA, not PC.
You can use various task killers to kill ActiveSync. There are more involevd ways to actually stop it popping up after it's closed, but once it's out of memory, it shouldn't bother you much.
I think I wrote an app to kill a task by caption, so you could probably use that to kill AS every so often if you want.
V
forumxda, all you have to do is enter some dummy exchange server information and set the sync frequency to manual. Should sort it.

I have not found any threads regarding this so I went ahead and bit the bullet and tried on my GoodLink server. Initially disappointed because my server was setup to send the last ver 4 GoodLink software to the Kaiser. After upgrading then to ver 5 the phone portion of the device would not work no matter what I did. GoodLink seemed to work but the phone wouldn't. I then uninstalled GoodLink via the remove programs (now GoodLink does not require hard reset to get rid of it).
I waited 24 hours (chicken). I then made sure that ver 5 was pushed to the device initially - viola - seems to work great now after 24 hours. No slowing of the device as was the case with other lesser devices (memory and processor speed!).
So far I believe that for those who want GoodLink and PPC the Kaiser may be the best device so far! I'll keep you updated as to any glitches that come up. I fully recognize that with some of the improvements to Pocket Outlook and with always on active sync GoodLink is not as needed as it was before but there are still some "closer to desktop Outlook" advantages for business users.

So - I binned Goodlink some time ago on the Co HP device and opted for a phone the performance was so bad. Based on your recommendation I might try it again. Where can I get the latest CAB? Will my old account registration work on the TyTN - or do I have to go back to the IS dept for another "key" to get setup?
Thx
Graham
The IT dept has to enable the version 5 for your device. In my case I have my own GoodLink server and I tried to install via a cab file and it didn't work for some reason. So I went back to the OTA setup. Just call the IT dept and ask them to enable the version 5 for your device (that is assuming they have upgraded their server yet) and resend you a PIN email. It is three or four mouse clicks so don't let them act like it is much trouble!
If you don't get ver 5 right off the bat then uninstall it don;t go any further because it didn;t work for me to "upgrade" ver 4 to 5!
how much better is it than 4.93? i find it a little buggy and i still need to activesync my calendar and contacts for other Hpone related items.
Goodlink
Goodlink 4.9.3.21 works like a charm, syncs mail, calendar, notes, tasks, the works and it's fast too. Not sure why yours would be 'buggy'; mine works like a charm without failure.

There are definitely some improvements with ver 5 -- one thing to know (I have another post somewhere else) is that you need to prepare for the fact that there is integration with the native contact list and GoodLink. In other words if you still use Active Sync (like via a server) you will get duplicate contacts. The IT person for the GoodLink server has a setting to choose what parts of you contact list will get sync'd with the native contact list for "use with voice dialing" etc (as per GoodLink's literature), i.e, Last, First, work, home, fax, email. Once you figure out what is going on it is actually better because the native contact list takes up less space because you can pick and choose (the IT GoodLink admin guy) what is sync'd.
All the while the GoodLink Calendar list , of course, gets fully sync's as it is designed to do.
[Interestingly with vers 5 server and ver 5 on the device the GoodLink admin person can actually "dis-allow" the use of any particular application on your device. Every program you have on your device shows up on the GoodLink Mangemenet Console. It's pretty cool -- that is if you have access to the server!!!]
If you have question just ask and I'll try to answer them since I have my own server
PS as far as the duplicate contact thing you need to use PPContactsMgr and delete ALL of your native contacts, then tell active sync NOT to sync contacts and then let GoodLink do its thing as far as syncing the selected fields of you native contact list.
PSS I really like using GoodLink so far -- with it's limited syncing of the native contacts list which then work NICELY with PocketCM to make calls text msgs etc
A bunch of GOOKS...

i dont have access to the server. so that means my IT can see ALL the apps that areon my device and control what I can / cannot use?

Iten I was browsing sure does. I was really surprised when I was browsing my new management console for ver 5 and click on a tab that took a minute or two to respond (I didn't know at the time but it was retrieving from my device) and then showed my applications on my device and gave options for which to allow and which to disallow!!
I didn't want to mess anything up so I didn't experiment.

That's pretty funny. I can think of a lot of potentially offensive comments about the advertisement but I will use better judgement ............

I tried the OTA setup and it gave me version 6(!).. Needless to say my old PIN wasn't valid - and the IT dept wouldn't enable it for me. They said "can't use none approved devices on Company networks".. so I can't use my TyTNII with Goodlink. I think the PIN was for v5.. but I don't see how to get the v5 CAB

As I've stated in a previous thread I'm coming from an HP IPAQ 4150.
If in the IPAQ Tasks module you selected a Category and closed the application, the last selected Category would be stored in the registry. When you reopened the application the last Category would be active.
In the HTC Kaiser (I think all WM6) the Category is not stored and when the application is restarted it always reverts back to All Categories.
Is this a bug or is this how Microsoft wrote the 'upgraded' version.
If there is a way to restore the original Tasks application from PocketPc 2003 I would be very grateful.
Thanks.
im assumming its how they wrote the upgraded version. I doubt they store it in registry. More likely they put the program to "sleep" so it starts faster, i believe this turned out to be undesirable in future windows mobile versions, seeing as RAM is to valuable to waste on programs that arent in use, but in sleep.
I have looked and looked and i cant seem to find any information pertaining to my issue. I have a stock tilt with the HTC Home plugin, HTC Album, Kaiser Tweak, Shogunmark wm6 threader, and Arcsoft MMS enable and composer.
Now on to the problem. I will be texting through the shogunmark program or just messing around on the phone, nothing specific, and i will get a little box that says out of memory: please close some windows and try again. When i look in the AT&T task manager all it says is open is the messaging program and activesync (even though it is not hooked to my computer at all).
Any ideas or suggestions or ways to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Have you checked your device memory? It could possibly be quite low because you’ve installed far too many applications on your device memory, and not on your storage card (if you even have a storage card?)
Sometimes, temporary/unnecessary files end up installed and duplicated on your device memory. If you don’t need them, delete them. Applications like SKtools can also help you free up much needed space by deleting unnecessary files.
Is there a specific place to obtain SKTools? I searched and all i saw was someone else mentioning it, not a link or anything.
your problem is with the SMS threader you have. I'd love to search for you but I havent got the time right now. I personally posted a fix in another thread and I have seen the fix in other threads as well. It's out there, go get it.
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html Even without the programme, click on ‘start’ then ‘settings’ then ‘system’ and then ‘memory’. You’ll be able to see both your storage and program memory.
To give you an idea, my storage memory is 92.75MB and my programme memory is 61.65 MB. If you’re memory is very low, then this could be the programme. This can be easily fixed by clicking on ‘file explorer’ then ‘my device’ and sifting through your programmes and deleting any uneeded programmes.
SK tools is meant to be pretty good as well, but it costs about $17. I’ve always deleted uneeded programmes manually by myself too.
But it looks like Grizzley has suggested a likely problem with your SMS. Maybe this could be the problem too...?
I've searched, and found lots of entries, but couldn't find what I was looking for.
I think Dutty's ROM had a timesync app that would sync the PDA's time with some online server... What I'd love to have is a simple app that would run every once in a while and sync PDA's time through the web.
What would you recommend?
Did you try phone, menu, options, Time Zones, check the "Automatic Update of Time Zones & Clock". This will sync to network time where ever you go. On the downside however, it can cause Activesync sessions to randomly pop up.
There is also an App called Time Sync: http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Business/Clock/TimeSync-Pocket-PC-19058.shtml
I think VXutil will do it to: http://www.cam.com/vxutil_pers.html
Try a google search for: atomic NTP time for pocket pc
HINT: occassionaly you get a better return if you omit "windows mobile" & instead use PPC or pocket pc for your searches.
TimeSync is probably the one I'm looking for.
Thanks!

Here's the .cab
Thanks, already tried - looks like this is the solution then.
hello to all. my problem is a tricky one: i was wondering if i could find a data register which shows the amount of internet traffic that my phone makes. I recently got a bill for over 100 euro for my internet usage and as far as i know i have done no outstanding data transfer appart from the usual mail and weather application on my htc diamond. I run the standard wm 6.1.
Many thanks in advance.
i posted elsewhere on the forum as well. if it goes against the forum rules i kindly ask an administrator to merge the two posts.
the registry is just a big settings database where apps and the os can store their settings so as a rule it's not a place where by typing in values you get new programs and or features
