Hi All
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice.
I’ve recently bought a T-mobile MDA here in Shanghai – I guess it’s come from Germany as all the accompanying packaging and brochures are in German. The guy in the shop has kindly installed an English ROM – branded with O2. I’d prefer to not have the O2 branding but will live with it if it remains stable.
Following are installed:
IPL 1.05
SPL 1.05
GSM 01.09.10
OS 1.5.4.2
I guess the question I need to know is, is it worth it to update to a more stable ROM?
I’m not looking at tweaking the machine extensively but it would be nice to have a more stable machine – I have experienced it crashing a few times and wonder if I would be best to install a new ROM to make it more stable?
I don’t want to install extensive programs and tweaks – as soon as I can get a stable machine I would like to keep adjustments to the minimum.
The machine also has a demo version of CE Star installed which I suppose I would lose if I install a new ROM? I can download this from the net anyway so not a problem. I need all the Chinese support so I can send texts etc in Chinese. I also have a piece of software called plecodict installed which is a Chinese language dictionary.
I’ll use the machine mainly for making phone calls, Chinese language learning with plecodict and listening to mp3’s along with the occasional snap.
Is it worth upgrading for a more stable machine? Any recommendations?
Also, I want to know, if I do a hard reset will it go back to the factory setting with the German ROM? Or will it reset back to the English 1.5.4.2 as detailed above?
Many thanks in advance
IMHO, You have the best rom. To make it faster and more stable just remove O2Active,- do the HardReset, and miss the customizing (SoftReset device in the very beginning of customization). Then you can install any programms you want from Extended_Rom using Total Commander.

Hey, hows it going?
I'm pretty new to the whole wizard scene and am trying to get as much info as I can. I'm in the Netherlands and am about to buy an MDA Vario but they come with the Dutch ROM and I need the english version.
So my plan is to get it unlocked and then reflash the ROM. So my question is:
Which ROM would be the best to reflash my Vario with?;
1) K-JAM_WWE_1010903_106_10110_ship.exe
or
2) Qtek_9100_RUU_Prodigy_10107105_Qtek_WWE_ship.exe
I really just want the excess unneeded junk off the thing, like antivirus (and I plan on installing the extended ROM unlocker) and have it run as fast as possible. I'd like to keep skype etc, but I'm sure I can install that afterward. I also heard the Qtek ROM has some bluetooth issues? And I think I read that the K-Jam ROM is like 5 days older than that Qtek, not sure if there is a difference though. Which one would you recommend? I'll be using it with a T-Mobile SIM in The Netherlands. Thanks for any suggestions
Hello everyone im new to the forum, i have a t mobile vario, i have managed to unlock it curtusy of lokiwiz unlock 0.2a. i have a few questions if someone could help me on
1. on the unlocker software there is a option of CID unlocking, what is this?
2. is there any differences between the different variations of the wizard, 02 mini, tmobile vario, kjam, qtek.... which has the better firmware??
3. can i put either kjam or qtek firmware on my vario?
Many thanks peeps
Speaking as an MDA Vario owner who has reflashed with the k-jam ROM (and now can't go back!) I would say the only benefit of changing ROM is to enable 802.11g network access, which T-Mobile disabled in software.
There appear to be no other benefits. On the downside there are features that come with the Vario that do not work with the k-jam ROM. e.g. the email setup wizard does not work. Hardly a showstopper but an example. There is also an error message on resetting about elatepushservices.exe not found or not signed. Again, it doesn't seem to cause a problem but why klutz your machine up without a good reason to do so? The version numbers of everything that comes with the Vario also seem to be higher than the k-jam ROM, which I'm guessing is a good thing.
Unless you simply must have 802.11g connectivity, as well as 802.11b, my recommendation would be to leave well alone. It will also make warranty support much easier.
oh ok so is that the only major difference then. i find my vario isn't that stable. my device currently reads
rom version 1.3.2.2 enu
rom date 9/25/05
radio version 01.04.10
protocol version 4.0.13.17
extrom version 1.3.2.102
did u use ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/ for your firmware?

I did use the clubimate ftp ROM and my equivalent figures, with the Vario extended ROM remaining, are....
rom version 1.1.9.3
rom date 9/16/05
radio version 01.01.10
protocol version 4.0.13.16
extrom version 1.3.2.102
so all my version numbers are lower than yours excep the extended ROM, which I saved from my Vario.
I don't recall the Vario ROM being less stable than the k-jam but you need to be very careful what software you install as there is a lot of stuff that is not 100% WM5 compatible. It might install and it might run but it might also crash or destabilise your machine. I have only installed the T-Nobile supplied GPRS monitor, Total Commander, TomTom 5.21 and a couple of GPS utilities and that's it.
As soon as you start throwing in today plugins and other system utilities that are less than 100% WM5 compatible you are asking for trouble, IMHO.
Hi there,
I just looked on the FTP, but is there any Dutch K-Jam/Qtek 9100 ROM available for the MDA Vario?
Thanks!!
Jeremy.
on the ftp i can see:
RUU_Prodigy_1030710_110_10410_Qtek_NLD_Ship.exe
-> uploads/htc wizard
this is right for you

Just check the XDA-Dev. FTP site.
There you can find the Dutch rom which greddy pointed out.
ftp.xda-developers.com
user = xda
pass = xda
hmmm by the looks of it i might hold out until theres some newer rom updates with significant improvements. at the mo it looks like theres only a few tweeks and i dont wana risk bricking my vario.
t mobile released updates for the mda compact and mda II http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/mdas.html
maybe they'll release some for the vario???
For us we own an english version of Qtek 9100 in which site we'll find the future ROM Updates?
have you tried xda developers ftp site? ftp://xda-developers.com/ or dont qtek have a support area?
Hi there,
Thanks, I didn't see that.
A few questions:
1. HOW CAN I DOWNLOAD THE FILE?? I can access the FTP-server, but when I try to download the Rom, the file stops downloading after apx. 20 - 40%, whichafter I even have to reset my router to get the internet working again. I used both the FTP Explorer and the Internet Explorer.
2. Should I also upgrade the Extended Rom? I want to get rid of these ugly, squared, pink and grey T-Mobile phonepad keys, so is this stored in the Extended Rom?
Which Extended Rom should I use? There are more of them, so which one is for use with the Dutch Qtek 9100 Rom?
Thanks again!!!

If you ae comfortable doing this, could you perhaps make a backup of your t-mobile rom. I downgraded to the k-jams rom without doing a backup...silly me, anyway would be grateful if someone would pop a copy on the ftp here.

Jim
I also done exactly the same, i didn't have a miniSD card, an i was too eager to upgrade so i couldn't backup my rom.
Now i wanna go back to the T-Mobile rom but no one has one on the FTP. would you be able to upload yours?
It would be very much appreciated by a lot of people here.
Cheers
i dont mind creating a back up of my rom, if someone can point me to how i can do this.
i to want to get rid of the rubbish pink phone pad, it looks ugly
jay - are you using ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/ or ftp://xda-developers.com/ ? it should work, unless your connection keeps dropping?
Need to refresh my memory on the back up procedure... get back to you on that later.
Regarding the pink key pad, a bit of registry hacking should sort that out
If you have a registry editor, follow the below, worked fine on Compact II but never got to test it on the vario before the downgrade
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin
Properties
Dword- Enabled
Value - 0 (default HTC skin - cool blue)
if you change the value to 1 it then displays the T-mobile's wonderful pink and grey pad.
Save the changes and they do a soft reset
Hope that helps

Yes, i've tried in the FTP site. But in there the roms are backed up from other devices and not directly from Qtek support. First, I would like know if there is problem or there are any diferrences between roms backed up from devices and the other from official support.
In the end, i'm asking if there is a link for official Qtek support where we can find the future rom updates.
There is a nice pdf guide on backing up your ROM here you need to do procedure 'r2sd all' as opposed to 'd2s' as suggested as that guide was for the magician.

t mobile english version
hi to everyone
I have a mda vario with t mobile deutch and I'd like to know if it is possible to flash the rom into english t mobile rom or an other english rom. If possible could u gently explain me how to do?
many thanks
here are so many people with a German MDA Vario.
Isn´t it possible, that one of them reads out the original ROM and set´s it to the ftp so that others, that want a German ROM can flash this?
I am not a professional in this, so correct me if that is not possible...

Hi all,
I have recently got my Orange SPV M700, new to this forum so apologies if these questions have been covered before. My details are as follows;
Operator version: 19.123.1.615
ROM version: 1.23.61.5
ROM date: 01/25/07
Radio Version: 1.30.00.01
Protocol Version: 32.63.7020.08H
I am wondering about several things;
1. Can I upgrade WM5 to WM6, if so, where is the ROM and how do I do it?
2. Can I make a backup of my factory ROM/settings prior to the upgrade incase something goes wrong I can reset to original state. If so, how?
3. Has anybody successfully update ROMs to WM6 on Orange SPV M700s?
4. Can anybody recommend any cool apps/games for the M700 and where I can download them from.
Thanks in advance!
Scott
Scott, can't answer the question about WM6 myself, as I am also looking for this.
As to regards to backup ROM, there is this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309959
just tried it myself and works a treat.
As to apps, you definitely want to get hold of the M700 Bass fix cabs, without them, the sounds if hideous. PM me and I'll email them over.
Thanks. I have updated with the bassfix cabs and it might a slight difference, although not what I would call bass. I am using the supplied earphones though. Can anyone get any decent bass sounds out of those?
Regarding your 1st post- look in the Trinity/WM6 part of this forum. There are a few versions of WM6 you can load, but unless you are willing to risk your device, stay clear until you are fully familiar with it.
Installing an unoffical ROM WILL invalidate your warranty. There are ways to backup your ROM, but if there is a major system failure, you may not be able to revert it, so beware.
There is unlikely ever to be an official WM6 ROM from Orange. though HTC are still considering it. Dopod (Asia) are testing one. These would still infringe your Orange license however.
Having said all that, it is unlikely that Orange would detect an unoffical ROM, if there were a hardware fault, because fixing it would entail flashing the official ROM anyway!
i have updated mine to wm6 and it works a treat.
you will need to install the new voice mail notifications cab though otherwise a missed call results in a text message with [email protected]
Where is the link for the WM6 ROM update?
You would need to CID unlock it 1st otherwise you wont be able to anything other than an Orange ROM.
Heres the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293957
I Have the Orange M700, Unlocked the SIM and the CID with help from the above link.
Flashed the WM6 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305133
and flashed back the original orange ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309959
Nerve racking at times but nice when its all done
Nogs
i had the exact same trinity as yours same radio & rom version & i upgraded to mUn 2.00 S.E. without CIDunlock, mUns roms come with softspl just double click the .exe & flash!

Do you have a link for this cab, I need to install it myself but can't find it.
Hi I am searching for Windows Mobile 6, 6.1 oder 6.5 in Englich the language Pack from helmi didnt translate the os .. The os is not bootable after apply
Need Help
yeah, the only rom the language pack works for, is helmi's own wm6 rom.
since there are no other wm6.X roms in german on this forum or anywhere i looked, i will start development for my own wm6.5 in german. personally, i don't want a german rom, but since i am one of just few german senior members here, and people request those roms, it would be pretty nice to have them floating around, but at the moment i just can't spare the time to translate a rom (plus i've never done it before and have to read a hell lot before i can do it).
so you might wanna stick with one of the good wm6.5 builds, like xplode's, or sun_dream's, or swampy's
wmobile in german to english or spanish
Hi! I´m new in the forum, please i need some help, i have a qtek 9090 bought in germany so it has a windows mobile in German. Can you help me to change the ROM to an english or spanish version.
The info is:
ROM version: 1.40.01 GER
ROM datum:03/10/05
Radio version: 1.12.00
Protocol version 1337.42
Extended ROM version: 1.40.750 GER
Model: PH20B
Platform: PocketPC
Can you explain me step by step or suggest me a page wuere i could find some instructions, i have another problem too, I don´t have a usb cable for it, please help me
hi, welcome to the forum!
1. i wouldn't have posted the imei, if i were you. it does not help is the process and is rather private information. maybe you want to edit that, since it is none of people's concerns, it would be like posting your phone number in clear text.
2. it is no problem at all, "switching" languages. it might not be as easy as flipping them like on a normal mobile phone, since you need to flash a different rom, but it is easily doable. but before i explain that, let's go to #3
3. you problem is, that you don't have a usb cable. you really need a usb cable or cradle to flash another rom, which again is necessary to get another language. so your first task would be to get your hands on a cable or cradle, before that, you can do nothing about that. have a look at ebay or e-shops in your country or region.
i will not go into detail now, because the entire process of flashing the device must seem awfully theoretical for you at the moment, but to give you something to read:
-=here=- you can download the different wm2003 roms in different languages.
-=here=- you can find newer roms, since you are not restricted to wm2003, maybe you also want to concider wm6.5 for nicer optics, finger friendliness and third party app compatibility.
-=here=- you can find information on how the upgrade process works in detail.
and finally -=here=- you find a lot of information for beginners with the device.
please make sure to first get a cable, then please post back, and we will discuss further questions about the actual process of flashing.
with best regards,
Chef_Tony
Thanks!
Thanks a lot !
I couldn't find any help until I arrived here, ok so I'm going to work in the USB cable, and I'm going to read all the articles.
I will post back as soon as i get it, thanks for your help and congratulations for the forum Chef_Tony.

Hi (and sorry for my bad english
I just got an used Qtek 9100, also known as the HTC Wizard 200.
What is the best WM6.1 rom upgrade for this phone?
With "best", I mean a rom that resembles the original WM5-rom as much as possible, only with WM6.1 instead. I don't want those extra user interfaces, extra software, backgrounds and utilities. Just about the same software that the phone came with originaly.
I think I have a G4 device, cause the IPL/SPL version is 2.18.0001.
Thanks for help
by me: H3r4 is the best
Where can I get a copy of H3r4?
Thanks
