Disable GPRS balloon (bubble) - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Anywone out there who knows how to disable the GPRS notification balloon so that it wont pop up everytime GPRS connects to the network?
Should be easy with a registry tweak, but i havn't found anything. All the entrys in the registry regarding to notifications seems to point to the balloons in the bottom of homescreen.

check this thread for an awesome tweaking tool for your Wizard...

Great, thanx. Allthough i need the registry settings for since we are developing a software where the Balloons aren't suppose to pop up`?

I guess you could find them in "registry tweaks.doc", that was published in that thread. Although I didn't find resgitry setting to disable that baloon .

I don't get any GPRS balloon/popup - the only way for me to know I'm on GPRS is to closely eye the connections icon and see if it's either the big G (GPRS-available) or the small G (GPRS-connected).
We could compare registry dumps or something, but let's make sure I'm not-not seeing things, first. What is a sure-fire way for you to get the GPRS balloon thingy?

I get the balloon everytime GPRS gets connected.
Its the balloon at the TOP of the display that tells you that you are connecting o GPRS.

I guess I've found. I disabled notification on connection establishing (Start/Settings/Sounds and Notifications) and now I have no balloon.
Also I've found registry setting for that:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Notificaitions\{8ddf46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}\Options=DWORD:0

Works fine, thank you...How did you find the registry key?

ah, doesn't need a reg hack, then %) Must've disabled that a long time ago.
three ways to find a registry entry...
A. search
B.1 dump the registry
B.2 make the change
B.3 dump the registry again
B.4 compare the two dumps
C. use something like CeRegSpy to track registry accesses

Thank you for tips, I look for registry spy for a long time.

Just be sure to mail the author - you need a WM5-compatible version, and he's still working on perfecting that (the version I have works, but sometimes complains about the driver not being loaded).

Great, thanx, i´ll take a look at it.

Does any know how to disable the "Cannot Connect" balloon when a gprs session fails to connect?

After doing:
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications Tab > Pull down menu and choose "Connection Established" > Uncheck "Display message on screen" > Press "Ok"
... I still get the "cannot connect" ballon too. Anyone know how to disable that rotten ballon?

Is this the "Holy Grail" of registry hacks?
I've been searching high and low and when anyone asks how to disable that infernal "cannot connect" ballon on many web sites, no one answers.
Could someone just tell me if it's impossible to disable or not?

vibrate on connect -- vibrate when call connects

Hello again,
My phone vibrates when a call is connected. I know there is a program called pocketAlarm that enables this feature but I never installed it!
What is causing this?
(I like this feature but Im just curious as to how and where this feature was enabled)
Thanks in advance.
Do you have any other contact managers installed? I know inesoft Address Book can be configure to vibrate on connection. I didn't think it was an option in a default build of WM 6.
I do have Inesoft installed but I don't see an option anywhere in the program to enable or disable this feature. Am I missing something?
check this: Settings, Personal tab, sounds & notifications, notifications tab, connection disconnected.
Make sure vibrate at the bottom is not checked. If it is, whenever you dial a phone number the internet disconnect will cause the unit to vibrate. Same thing with connection established.
I checked there and the vibrate mode is not selected, yet it still vibrates when it connects to a call. I am just wondering what software or option is causing it to do this.
The feature is hidden and can only be accessed if you enable Options "Show Tray Icon". Then go to the WM's default Today screen, tap the tray icon and the setting is there under options. I think it is silly to hide it there as people who disable the tray icon will not find this feature.

Try Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Phone>Scroll all the way to the right until you see the Advanced tab>Remove the tick from "Vibrate device when connection is established">Click OK until you see your home screen.
Your connected call shouldn't vibrate anymore - well it worked for me anyway!
Cheers

This is not available on my stock AT&T (bloatware removed) 6.1 ROM. There is no "Advanced" tab. I would like to enable this feature. I've tried installing a CAB to do this, but no luck.

I am currently using this ROM:

Its quick and stable - I can thouroughly recommend it!
I am not sure where you can change the vibrate on call connect setting on a different ROM. Perhaps its worth searching the registry for the word vibrate?
If I find anything I will post to let you know.

How do you know whats going on in the background?

Ok, throughout the day I noticed that the Media Net (EDGE) starts up (two little E's at the top of the tilt displaying) for several min. When I tap the E, it shows "Media Net (EDGE)" connected. Sometimes it stays connected for 15 to 45mins, other times just a few min. When I go to task manager, it does not show anything running. I do not have anything updating, the only two programs I have I update manually which is SBSH weather and a POP email account. How can I tell what it is looking for or what data it is transferring etc.. Why is it connecting?
So with this, how can I figure whats going on and how do I fix it, or this normal.
I do have KasierTweak, is there something in there I can adjust?
Thanks
and yes did a search, I guess I could not find the proper wording to get the right result's

?? I have used mamaid long time ago, so I dont know.
Its most likely the updates(weather).
But I dont know what u want now, do u want to stop it?
Edit: are u sure u have the auto updates turned off?(in weather)
could u post all installed apps?
Ok, all my weather updates are turned off.
Memaid will show all programs running and running processes.
Which one should I look under when the Media Net kicks on?
Question what will I'll be looking for, what specific program or what will Media Net (EDGE) look like. Will it say Media Net or something?
Like for instance, right now they have 14 processes running
all .exe processes

No, it won't appear there. When it connects on its own look at the running processes and try to guess if you can find one that might require net access.
Another hint, you say you have a POP e-mail account set up. Check that it isn't defined to check for mail automatically each X minutes. If I remember well this can get enabled by default when you add an account.
Ok, this is what is showing in the "running processes" before the mediaNet kicks on. I have not been able to catch it yet while running. Anything in here looks suspicious that should not be there?
device.exe 2.75mb
cprog.exe 2.63mb
gwes.exe 2.37mb
filesys.exe 2.34mb
shell32.exe 1.87
Transport.exe 315.76kb
services.exe 295.67kb
connmgr.exe 147.71kb
MortScript.exe 115.90kb
HTC ActionScreen.exe 47.90kb
poutlook.exe 31.90kb
saddaemon.exe 31.90kb
NK.exe 0Bytes
Thanks
I've never seen "Transport.exe". A quick search tells me about some Arcsoft program. Maybe it's checking for updates?
As Mikulec asked, a list of the programs you've installed could help... we don't know about all the programs out there...
The programs I have installed;
Kaisertweak
HTC Home plugin
Live Search
Opera
HHC Customize
ILauncher
Pocketweather
HTC Diamond Qwerly
Battery Status
Memaid
Finger Friendly Friends
Again guys thanks for your time and help.
MediaNet just kicked on and I went to running processes and I did not see anything different than what I listed above. Will check again though to be sure.

me either. Arcsoft is messaging program and it could be MMS related. Maybe its downloading mms.

this is probably the culprit for your dilemma unless you are accidentally selecting the weather tab on htc home
ok guys went through a rechecked all my settings, I did check the HTC home screen weather to make sure it was on manual update (i do not use the weather program) also made sure that all my auto settings on pocketweather is turn off. I did make one other adjustment though, will see if this helped.
Funny thing is that when MediaNet kicks on, it doesn't appear to effect my battery.
Again, thanks for the replies. Will advise the outcome.

How to avoid WLAN network connection dialog?

Hi,
I'm having this problem: At home I work with WLAN all the time, so WLAN is enabled. Later, when I take my Xda Diamond as navigation device (with TomTom), whenever I pass a hotspot or private WLAN, a dialog box pops up and a nasty sound plays, telling me that WLAN networks are found and asking to connect. I simply want to avoid that dialog. Is it possible to tell the Diamond to ONLY connect to known WLAN networks (the one at home) and to be quiet if any other network is in range?
Sure, I could simply turn off WLAN whenever I leave home, but often I forget that, and I don't want to fiddle with the settings while driving...
Thanks!
you can turn off the notification when a new network is detected. just look in settings>sounds & notifications.
Dave, exactly what I was looking for! I just missed the point that you can change more than the standard ring tone here... Thanks!
Try This
If your still having problems, try this.
Here is a program i made that fixes this problem for the HTC touch pro, let me know if it works on your device.
On my device at least, after I disable the notifications they come back automatically every time I soft reset. This will fix that issue

You were right, after soft reset the notifications came back. Actually I solved that by setting a registry key in a MortScript:
RegWriteDWord( "HKCU", "ControlPanel\Notifications\{DDBD3B44-80B0-4b24-9DC4-839FEA6E559E}", "Options", 0 )
I guess your *.exe does the same?

Interesting... how do you launch the script? Do you put a shortcut to it in the startup folder?

Exactly. After installing MortScript, it's enough to put a shortcut to my init.mscr script into the \windows\AutoStart folder.
Yep, that's all my program is doing.

Using Phoneweaver for profiles...need a small app/mortscript to toggle 3G on/off

I know PhoneAlarm does this, but I don't like having to install SecondToday to use it. It seems to slow my device and switching today screens takes about three seconds.
Anyway, I like Phoneweaver better because it has a popup profile switcher/commmgr menu I can assign to the PTT button. It's good, but it can't toggle 3G like PhoneAlarm. However, it can run an exe on a profile change so all I would need is a small app that can turn 3G on and off. I searched but didn't see anything that appeared to do the trick. Any ideas?
i can't believe something like this doesn't exist. a google search turned up some threads about skschema from 2006 so i guess i'll try those.
no other solution?
i found this thread which has a toggle3g mortscript. i installed it, but it doesn't work, or at least i can't get it to work. it launches to the confirmation screen. but i click OK and nothing happens.
can any of you mortscript experts help out? and, yes, i changed the vjvolubilis directory in the script from \Extended Rom\Program Files to \Program Files\
also any ideas of how to skip the confirmation screen? by the way, i tested it on my old phone, a tilt, which has a dutty rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2145594&postcount=371
If you edit the mort script you can change this:
Code:
ChoiceDefault( "Toggle 3G","Do you wish to proceed with toggling 3G?",0,10,"Cancel","OK" )
case (1)
#Message( "Cancel" )
Exit
case (2)
#Message( "OK" )
call( "setOpMode" )
case (0)
#Message( "Cancel" )
Exit
EndChoice
to something like this:
Code:
call( "setOpMode" )
That should make each run of the script toggle the 3G reg setting.
thanks. i've been tinkering with it with some help in this other thread also and the poster suggested the same change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3024082#post3024082
but like i said in that thread, no matter what opmode is set to by the script, HSDPA remains on even though the wireless manager shows that 3G is off (but if i turn 3G off through the wireless manager it completely disables 3G and the today screen only shows an edge connection).
so the script is missing something to completely disable 3G. i just don't know what.
UPDATE: i even tried skchema scripts from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1079636&postcount=5), same results. so obviously simply changing the value of opmode doesn't completely disable 3G.
UPDATE 2: i even tried bandswitch 1.2.3, using the command line. it made the registry changes and the wireless manager showed 3g off, but the H was still on the today screen. so it's something more needed to completely disable 3G via script.
Yeah, I've been poking around with it for a few minutes and noticed there's a few additional reg keys that need to be altered in order to toggle 3G.
I added HKLM\Software\OEM\UMTS\BandSelection\Band, as that is another one that's changed via the Band settings page, but there's still more that needs to be touched.

i noticed the band selection folder, too, but i didn't notice a change. which key changed when you turned 3G off via the wireless manager?
man, it would be great if i could just command line the wireless manager.
After further testing, and using SKtracker, it would appear the changes for 3G/Auto -> GSM are more than just registry changes. Not sure what else it's doing, but modifying the reg settings and cycling the phone radio doesn't do squat. I guess that's why there's programs like Bandswitch/CMP and PhoneAlarm (full). Maybe schap knows what else is involved, as he added a 3G toggle to the 9 button CommMgr on the Kaiser.
This is what Daniel Herrero said about the 2G/3G switching:
Hi.
If you are talking about connections (close idle connections, disable them, etc) then Its win32 api standard. If you talk about switch between 2g-3g then I did reverse ingineering of htc binaries. It was easiest on HTC Hermes, Universal and Athena but in Kaiser (Tilt) It was much more dificult (Strange calls to undocumented htc methods with variable parameters). I am scared about incoming htc models....

So it would seem a simple reg change & radio cycle won't cut it.

Is there a way I can disable the "Connecting to MEdia Net/3G" prompt?

I've been able to disable almost everything else annoying with KaiserTweak or a little menu hunting... but this one's proving pretty hard to find a solution for, no matter how I word it on google or these boards.
I have access to the registry if it helps any...
Go to settings/personal/sounds and notifications/notifications/connection established , and uncheck display message on screen.
