Change text alert tone - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Hi,
Is there any way to change the text / sms alert tone? I've added ringtones, but they are not listed when I try and select it as a txt alert!
Any helpful advice?
Thanks!
Lee

Drop some .wav files into your \Windows directory (via ActiveSync or from an SD card, etc) - they'll appear in the dropdown list in Sounds & Notifications when you next go into there and choose New Text Alert.
Personally, all my SMS alerts I name as 'sms-filename.wav', just so they're grouped in the list when I open it up.
I'm somewhat sure that if you have that MP3 CAB patch installed you can most likely use MP3s as SMS notifications as well as wave files, but the last time I had MP3s as ringtones I had all sorts of problems with stuttering and cutting out sound so I just gave up in the end and I Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Ahh - Windows folder - thanks. So that where they should live.

No worries mate, it's one of those undocumented features I had to search for for AGES to find (like hell was I going to fork out $19 for a piece of software which does the same thing when I was near-positive I could do it myself for nowt!)

It's obvious when you work it out!

I know, and I felt a right mug for not trying it sooner.

Did you say it also works with MP3s?

Possibly... Attached is the MP3Ringtones CAB file, which patches the registry...

As you can see, it adds a shellextension to the device assigning a new assocation for the .mp3 file format. I'm not sure, but I suppose that it mayyyyyyyyyyyy work (not tried it, don't want to, as my XDA is finally working and I really don't to back up again just in case the patch mucks up my phone's ability to play ringtones without pausing every 2 seconds) - I believe other people posted with their success rates.
Afaik, this patch was mainly designed to allow usage of MP3s as ringtones directly without having to add them as ringtones via the System feature (if I remember correctly), but I think it also allowed you to play MP3s using the HTC audio player, as opposed to WMP... Though you know, to be honest, I can't remember exactly what it's for now.
I guess the filename is kinda self-explanatory.

Ringer...

I'm new to the Wizard 8125 and i'm trying to figure out how to use ringers besides the ones that come on the phone. Can i upload songs or download of the internet?
any song. mp3 or wma
if you have a sd card . just tap and hold the mp3 or wma file song you want . and tap ( set as ringtone ) in the window
this will automatically add the song to your ringtones Folder in the main memory of your phone
good luck.
yes, but that only works for ringtones
not for notices such as incomming messages, or missed call notifications....etc
on a fluke however, i have a wav file (of homer simpson screaming woohoo) that DID end up in the menu for incomming messages notifications and such... so my question is, is there a certain criteria for custom soundfiles to work as something other than a ringtone?
anyone? anyone at all?
I use PhoneAlarm to do this. I am not sure how to do this through registry or know of a freeware app but I do know phoneAlarm does a very good job of this.
SoBBie
alerts
The way i do is copy the sound from you mc card use file explorer then go into windows on your phone scroll to the bottom of the folder then press with the styles then paste then it will be there when you set the alarm hope that helps
Ringers-alarms-n text,emails-ext
Yes the ringer 4 the cell does work on mem crd by tap hold n set as ringer as far as alarms n text n blah blah the have to b WAV files or u can copy n paste it under windows to the main phone mem. n that will work !!!
PERFECT
you just need to copy the file under the windows folder... thank you!

software issue with MS Voice command

I have the Fuze. Has there been a fix for the following issue?
If you enable "announce incoming caller" my phone will say the name if it's in my address book, or the number. When I answer the phone via BT headset, I cannot hear the caller, but the caller can hear me. If I transfer to my phone, I can now hear the caller. If I turn off the announce, then everything is working again.
Just a heads up, my phone when I first got it, would work fine, then it stopped announcing the caller. All you would hear is a "beep" in the headset. Then I was shown a regedit that got the voice to com back, but can't hear the caller.
I know this was a ongoing issue months ago, but was there ever a solve for this?
Oh my Fuze is stock.

Few questions:
1) What file is the BT Audio Gateway pointing to:

2) Is there a BT Headset Call Announce key, what are the values:

3) Is there a Call Announce key, what are the values:

1) What file is the BT Audio Gateway pointing to:

2) Is there a BT Headset Call Announce key, what are the values:

sound application data\volatile\\ttscallerid.exe
3) Is there a Call Announce key, what are the values:

catagory voicecommand1
script as5p
sound application data\volatile\\ttscallerid
That happened to me with the stock 6.1 & MSVC, but, since I flashed to RRE's 6.5 V4, which uses MSVC 1.6.21234, that problem disappeared.
It would do the same thing yours did, you'd answer your BT, they could hear you but you couldn't hear them. I tried it with several different BT headsets, made no difference.
@p51d007:
If you can spare a moment, would it be possible for you to post up the registry for the BT Audio Gateway?
@startstreak:
Those registry entries don't look right (ex: point to ttscallerid.exe, extra back slashes, etc). Here are my entries:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway]
REG_SZ: BTAGExtModule = \windows\VCBTHAG.DLL
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\InCallPoliteBeep]
REG_SZ: Script = as5p
REG_SZ: Category = InCall
REG_SZ: Sound = \Application Data\Volatile\TTSCallerID.wav
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce]
REG_SZ: Script = as5p
REG_SZ: Category = VoiceCommand1
REG_SZ: Sound = \Application Data\Volatile\TTSCallerID.wav
Cheers,
hilaireg- I remember where those extra "//" came from. It was from another regedit that was on this board.
I redid your settings on mine. Wow. I can now hear my caller. I tried it around 8 times with different phones. 2 times, my phone vibrated (I have it set to vibrate&ring at the same time) but nothing sounded on my headset untill the phone killed the call to goto voicemail. At that split second, I heard my ring tone in my ear for like less than a second. So I'm not sure if that is a new issue.
I am happy for your help. Since I got the fuze when it first came out, I never had my MSVC working this well. Thanks!
I'll post ONLY the ones that vary from yours...
Hope this helps.

As I see it, you have a few options:
1) Continue to debug the issues
I've a feeling that the MSVC install on the ROM has been messed up. I'm not sure if it's only the registry part or if some of the exe/dll are impacted as well. If it turns out exe/dll's are also a problem, we will quickly run out of options.
In the interim, I can post up the MSVC registry file so that you can compare the settings against those in your device registry.
2) Follow p51d007's recommendation
IMHO, I recommend this approach. Drop the ROM you are using and flash a working ROM.
Alternatively, make an inventory of the applications on your device, and then look at the 6.1 Kitchen in the Raphael ROM Development thread - there's text files listing the applications in the kitchen/pack. Compare it against your list to make sure that all the applications you use/have are present and cook your own ... provides *way* more control.
* EDIT *
Posted registry and post-MSVC configuration.
I was thinking about upgrading to 6.5 if it was stable. If I had to cook.
I wouldn't call it an upgrade; it's still pretty much unreleased code.
That said, Da_G (and others) have done a fantastic job with the 6.5 code they've managed to locate.
If you need to rely on device functionality, you may want to look trying a 6.1 ROM - or cooking your own. That way, you can try WinMO 6.5 on the weekends ...
Text Messages
Voice Command on my tilt read messages and I could hear them. I realize the Fuze has had issues with Voice Command. Has anyone gotten this feature to work? Saved time from having to pick device up from desk.
try flashing back to stock and then going back to a ROM. Try out NRGZ28's Energy ROM. Working great very little bugs. on an older version but i'm sure the new one is just as stable.
It Works...
If you go to the voice command icon in settings, highlight messaging (don't just put the check mark in the box, highlight the word messaging) then push the options button. You will go to the Voice Cammand: Messaging Options and take the check out of the High priority messages only box. This should work. I have had Energy Roms anda few others, like right now I have RRE's and my messages read after doing this. Everytime I flash a new rom I have to go and do this. But it works afterwards.
Muchas Gracias
I did as you suggested, unchecked High priority massages only. Works like a charm, thanx

MPĀ£ to ringtone or sms notification?

Is there a confirmed app that works for this?
I got tone picker - great as a volume control but the chosen tone doesnt take and reverts back to what ever the original tone was.
tried rings extended and that crashes when you run it.
Is it a simple case of copy the mp3 file I want into a 'ringtones' folder in the root somewhere? Like you did on the ol' WM phones?
Cheers in advance
gurry
You do not need and app although there are several on the market that will do this.... to use your own ringtones you need to create a directory structure on the root of your sd card like this:
media/audio/alarms
media/audio/notifications
media/audio/ringtones
media/audio/ui
copy your mp3's to media/audio/ringtones and then they will be selectable in the normal way.
Oh this information is available in the posts already... using the search sometimes helps although in fairness there are a lot of posts to go through

[Sounds] Kick it old school!

[How to move with root explorer]
Step 1. go to your download folder and press menu and multi-select the sounds you downloaded (make sure you do copy otherwise your sounds will get deleted when flashing a new rom)
Step 2. move the files to /system/media/audio/notifications all done.
if you guys no other ways to push them there tell me thanks.

easier to put them on sd card in a folder named media/audio/notifications..........then you do not have to reload every rom change...........you can do the same for ringtones.

Wow, what is this? Windows Mobile 6.5? Weird that there would be a size limit on ringtones. I still remember installing a cab to lift the ringtone size limit on my old blackjack II .

Yea there is a limit. Let's say you go to your playlist and try to set a song to a ringtone it gives that annoying 300kb limit size if the file you are trying to assign is larger than that.
It's att's attempt to get you to buy ringtones.

I just tried the old work around and it works...
Create a new folder on your sd card that contains the following folders:
media/audio/notifications/ringtones/alarms
Copy the files you want to use into this alarms and restart the phone. The added files should show up in your ringtones.
KC
sweet thanks guys, i remember the old cab file to on my samsung jack lol i figured they would of gotten rid of this dumb crap by now.
I noticed this too. I used to make ringtones in the music player with the ringtone trimmer app, but you can't even do that now. Ringtone trimmer is in the system folder, but no dice. I just downloaded an app that would let me trim my own ringtones for now...
EDIT: Just noticed that if you go into phone ringtone in the sound settings and click "New Ringtone" you can set a whole song as a ringtone. You just can't do it from the music app....

No Work around needed fellas, Go to the Personalize feature and then go to ringtone, when your on that that screen click new ringtone and find the one you want thats placed within the sd drive. Even within contacts when you select a ringtone for contact if you have Es file explore loaded and choose that to open the app you can select any song you want for each contact.
No work arounds, no cabs , just es file explorer and then selecting under personalize or People under apps.
