Hi,
Can anyone here tell me the fastest 2GB / 4GB MiniSD cards please?
(BTW - Not sure if 4GB exists in MiniSD format yet)
Also - a fairly dumb question - I think the answer is "No - of course it dosn't" but I'll ask anyway!
Does using a MiniSD adapter have an effect of read / write speed? As it's just an electrical connection I would assume it dosn't...
Cheers

Mini SD are slower than full size SD cards. Unless you are after a compatibilty thing with mobile phones, MMC+ cards would be a better bet for the Alpine as they seem more stable than SD cards.
Tecic do a 120x Mini SD 2gb - Google it.
Some alien language but here's a link - http://www.mml.com.tw/topicdetail.php?f=243&t=59595

Hi - thanks for the reply.
I thought of Mini-SD becuase some phones (C500 / C600) have Mini-SD slots...
I currently have a M1500 - full SD slot but would like to keep mini-SDs as you can put them in either device...
I'll have a look at the link now!

Hi,
I've just received a 2GB Kingston card to use in my XDA IIi, however when I insert it, it doesn't pick it up at all - anybody got some advice maybe?
You always lose some space when it gets "formatted"...
Thanks for that Mike but does that mean I have to format it in a card reader / writer before I will actually be able to use it in the XDA?
Hi,
Does XDA2i support 1G SD card? I tried but it doesn't show up in the explorer.... Can someone help? Many thanks!!

1 GB Dane-elec Xs work fine on my Qtek 2020i(XDA2i)
you may format card before use
I have you tried any other card in your XDA IIi.
I have a DANE-ELEC 1 GB SD card and a INOV8 512 MB cards
and both work well.
Sorry I can't be of more help
Muzza
Kingston 2 GB (30651-001.A00LF p799861x01)work as well,
maybe i should have purchase a 4 GB
Scandisk 1GB SD card working fine!
transcend 2gb 150x absolutely fine work =))
maybe you have bad card? or maybe format it via cardreader can help..
My Kingston 2GB works great on the device, might be a case of a bad card for you, tried it on any other devices?
Worked
I use Kingston 1Gb SD card... 50x and it works fine... maybe your battery is dying
I think theres still a 4gb SD card at work which I'll give a go tomorrow if I get a chance.
I work at CeX in Brighton, England, and we get a lot of different types of memory cards in. So far I'm just using a standard SanDisk 512mb card, but will eventually get a 2 or 4gb (the 4gb we have is £120 >.<)
Kingston SD Card 1GB works fine on my XDA IIi. What brand do you use anyway?
XDA IIi definately supports up to 4gb (150x) cards.
I just got a "Topram' 4gb 150X...despite formatting both via card reader and my device it will not read...
Does it show the card size in the Memory cp? Or can you just not transfer files to and from it?
neither...as soon as I insert it into the 2i I am asked to format it to make the card ledgible...so I agree...but it still does not show up at all. Neither in memory size menu or file explorer.
I have formatted it via card reader on the compeuer too...It accepts files via card redaer so the card itself is ok.
But every single time I insert it into the PDA it asks me to format it again and it never shows up.
bit off topic but as anyone else had a problem with SD/MMC cards working for a while (sometimes as little as 6 months other times over a year) then totaly stopping ie show as not being there in any card reader, only to come back to life after about 12 months stuck in a draw. I have had this with 2 cards so far and got 1GB card in the draw at the moment which stopped working just as I put some important files onto it
SD Cards
I have a 4GB Transcend, 2GB SanDisk and a 512MB Unbranded and they all work perfectly fine in my xdaIIi, maybe your card reader is a bit iffy?
EDIT: By card reader I mean the bit that you insert the card into the xdaIIi
It may simply be certain makes of cards that work, and certain that dont. All you can do is hope the retailers let you try before you buy

erm... u made sure u formated them as FAT not FAT32? i had no end of probs with my 2020 when i did that, and the 1gb unbranded card i have in my 2020i is FAT and works fine, as most hand helds and camera (i use it in my konica/minolta SLR digital, it hates FAT32 file systems too) format them as that and jobs a good one!
Hey guys I`ve bought an Alpine and I want to put a 4GB SD Card in it??
Do you think, it works? Or is the maximium 2 GB, which works in Alpine?
CU
4 gb cards work......mostly.
I've used both the A-Data and the Transcend 4 GB cards on my Alpine. There is only one problem I've experienced. If your 4 GB card is less than half full (i.e. available storage is > 2gb), AND you've configured your camera to save the pictures you take to the SD card directly, then you may experience an error. The error simply says it can't save the SD card. If you card is more than 50% full of other stuff, then there is no problem using the camera application and saving your picutres directly to the SD Card.
I RARELY use my camera, so I really don't care. Plus, I have enough stuff on my SD card so that it never has more than 2 gb of available storage (i.e. its always more than half full). Consequently, this bug in the camera application is really not much of a nussiance.
ok, thank you very much for your reply...
It work, as I had a Kingston 4GB SD Card
without problems??
can you give me some more details about your sd card??
thank you
A 4Gb will work, but it does depend on the make - since, I'm guessing, cheaper makes use cheaper parts. Kingston and SanDisk seem to be pretty good.
I have a generic (samsung oem perhaps?) 4gb SD card and it works fine apart from it seems to be a tight fit in the slot. No problems with it as yet though.
SD card
I used a topram 4GB mini with adaptor and it did not work.
I then bought a Transcend 4GB MMC+ (plus) and it works like a dream.
I hope this helps you.
Watch out that the card is not a sdhc card. SDHC cards look like normally sd cards, but they dont' work on the Alpine.

all sdhc (high capacity) cards have "sdhc" sign so you can easily discern them
only the newest htc devices support sdhc cards
I'm using 4GB Tanscend SD Card with my alpine
and its working fine
Thanks to the advice here, I bought a 4Gb Transcend MMC plus and it works beautifully.
So much space is a real bonus as I have Tomtom maps of Europe, the whole of the USA, 6 or 7 full movies plus 20 or so albums worth of mp3's still with 500mb free for odds & sods.
Hi,
I am using a HAMA 4GB, and it is working more or less fine.
I don't know if it is a card issue or caused by the heat recently in Austria, but my Nav freezes from time to time.
I have to turn the 2020i off and then on, then it works again.
Some days ago, the card suddenly lost some data....
I have a SanDisk 4GB SD Card, however when I put it into my Alpine it doen't seem to recognise it. It just doesn't show up. Can anyone give me any hints on how to force it to look for it or something like that?
How big storage card xda2 suported and which types of card it will support under wm6 , do big memorycard slow ur xda2 .thanks
If you have SDHC Card, you can help us to try driver in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351811
And then you can feel it
So far I haven't been able to get my 4 GB SD to work on my Hima...... any suggestions are welcome . It's an Emtec btw and it doesn't hold the HC logo, but I also can't use it in my camera so I think it's HC.
2 GB is currently the max I can use.
About the speed: the hardware is basically the bottleneck. I have several speeds up to 150, but there is no (noticable) difference between them in my Hima.
i bought kingsten 2gb sd card and its working perfectly
i bought kingsten 2gb sd card and its working perfectly, the dealer said to me larger then 2gb is not supported by xda2. sorry for my english, thanx all here
Up to 2GB SD card is supported, any SDHC card can and probably will cause problems, either till someone adapts the SDHC driver or till we give up hope.
But IF you're able to use SDHC on Hima, (without messing up any other feature) please tell us how you did it.
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the XDA IIs (BA) is compatible with SDHC cards when upgraded to WM 6.5?
If so, what is the largest SDHC cxard anyone has tried successfully?
Thanks,
independant from the os used, there is no sdhc driver for the blueangel, so none works. the biggest sd card to work in a blueangel is a 4gb sd card, as long as it is not sdhc, there are different brands working, you gotta try for yourself, everything above 4gb is definetely sdhc and will not work.
in my experience 2gb cards work best and are the cheapest anyway, a 4gb card can easily cost 8-10eur while for the same price you get 2gb cards in a three-pack, so having 6gb
HCsd Cards
Thanks Chef_Tony for your response.
Currently I use 2 x 4GB SD cards and 1 x 2GB SD Card. All work reliably although once I dropped my device and after a reset and re-install, I had issues with GPS software freeezing after about 15 minutes.
A re-format of the 4gb card and re-copy apps back and all has worked well since.
Only ask as I have friend who is into IPaq's and when he upgraded from WM2003 to WM 5.0 he was then able to use SDHC Cards.
But, since your response, I won't worry about buying SDHC cards.
yes, that is possible with certain devices, my universal takes sdhc cards too, since it is wm6.1 because it contained a driver to enable sdhc support. but since there is no such driver for the ba (yet) no card above 4gb will be usable.
