Best way to create a backup ROM on Mini-SD?? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hi,
I've read some messages about writing a backup ROM to Mini SD card.
I'd like to do just that.
I want one or two ROM's for safekeeping stored somewhere instead only a backup or official copy on my pc.
As i've read restoring from SD is safer and faster..
I don't intend to use the SD card for anything more than just that.
In the Prodigy Service Manual (Prodigy Service Manual -XA(0813-2005).pdf) HTC uses mtty.exe. There are also instructions in the PDF.
Since HTC uses this, it should do exactly what i want, i guess?
Or is there a better tool?
Don't mind if it's a backup of my device itself or just a copy of the ROM found at this forum.
Thanks,
Allegro.
P.S: Will a restored ROM from Mini-SD look fresh to HTC?
Or will they see it's a self restored copy instead of a official HTC restore?
Will it reset "everything"?

You can use the romupdate tool.
kill activesync process
get into bootloader (switch off wizard then attach usb while holding camera button pressed keep it pressed until device is on. Youre in bootloader when you see the coloured screen)
start romupdate
choose USB
use the r2sd command to backup (ie r2sd all) to sd

Hi,
Thanks.
Do i need any other commands to download all of the contents of the device (ROM, Radio and Ext. ROM) to the Mini-SD?
I found some commands for the XDA II, are they the same?
Thanks,
Allegro.

Structure of the Wizard rom dump on sd is similar to that of the Typhoon.
See
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TyphoonSdImages
for details.
What i do is dump the part needed.
ie. the spl (bootloader)
Code:
r2sd spl
Then close down Wizard
Put sd card into pc
use 'psdread.exe' from 'itsutils' to get an image file from the dump.
ie. if i dumped spl:
Code:
psdread f: 0 786432 myspl.nb
(where f: is sd-card)

How to dump the content of a SD card to an image file...

Dear all,
I dumped the OS, Extended ROM and Radio firmware to a SD card and
flashed succesfully other devices with it. Now I would like to be able to safe the contents of this SD card to an image file to be able to use my SD card again for other purposes...
I tried w/o any success the OSImageTool from the XDA-Tools, it does
not seem to recognize the image on the card. Nevertheless, it flashes fine to another device....
Is the structure of a QTEK9090 dump completely different so it's not recognized by the OSImageTool ? Is there another tool available for
this ? Or any other way to make a complete dump of the raw SD content ?
TIA,
Willem.
Use this tool to read/write to SD card
* I don't remember from where I download this tools
you can use ntrw ( posted above ) or psdwrite.
the structure is very different from the one used by the wallaby/xda1/osimagetool.
xda2(himalaya), xda3(blueangel), jam(magician), sp3(typhoon), and probably other new models too. all use a similar format,
you can use sdtool to extract the contents of an sdcard.
Is it possible to save the dead device with fine bootloader and even booting mix of ROMS?
Details of this are written here. What exactly should I download and perform?

I have live Qtek 9090 with bootloader version 2.06 can I use it to perform backup/restore procedure with dead VPA III with 2.07 bootloader?

Wizard backup utility

Can someone point me to a decent utility to backup my Cinguarl 8125 (i.e. Wiza100)? I read on one of the forums that the wizBackup.exe is a good file but I am not sure where to find it?
Thanks
wizbackup is a ROM backup/restore utility. Are you sure this is what you're looking for?
If you just want a regular backup utility (i.e. all your data, settings, etc.), look into one of these instead:
SPB Backup - http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en
Sprite Backup - http://www.spritesoftware.com/pocketpc.php
Sunnysoft Backup Manager - http://www.sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=51
I do want wizBackup
Hi Guys,
I understand that wizBackup.exe only backs up the ROM, which is what I want to do. Can you post it here because I cannot find it on the site either?
Many thanks,
That is exactly what I want too
Someone please post it for us.
Thanks.
Can't find it on the site now but...
...I did download it from here a couple of weeks ago.
Enjoy
Thanks for the post
Thanks for finding the download for us.
so that will back up all my tweaks and everything also?
No you have to use SPB or one of the others
i dont know if it was just me but when i tried to use this wizbackup..
my mmc became corrupt and i think i had to flash my phone again...
had to reformat my sd
I was recently VERY disappointed with SPB backup. It backs up fine, but the restore doesn't work. It corrupts the e-mail database during the restore and requires me to basically hard-reset it again and reinstall my apps.
I'll try Sprite next.
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Don't use Wiz-backup, I used it to back up just a few minutes ago.
It wrote a backup file to my card, and then the software followed through some steps to use terminal software to copy the file off the card to my computer.
As soon as it begun copying to the card, I noticed I could not see the card under file explorer anymore. Either from my pc or the 8125.
My 2 gb mini-sd card is now un-readable.
I have downloaded a software called SPtaskmanager which would normally be able to reformat the card, right from the 8125. This software does not even recognize a card is in the slot, and the card does not show up in the 8125 file explorer or anywhere else I can see.
I don't have a card reader, that is the only thing left I know I can try, unless somebody knows some steps from a terminal software to take?!
NOT HAPPY!

I believe i had to reformat the card through a card reader on windows.. i had the same problem
OK so there IS HOPE.
Thank you!
/eagerly awaiting arrival of card reader
Why?
Why does this ROM backup prog. corrupt the Mini SD Card? I have a similar card. And also is it worth backing up the ROM? Because from what I have read one can't really downgrade the ROM once upgraded, so what's the use of backing it up anyways...
I don't think that ROM backup programs actually store the data in a directory & file layout, they just dump the whole ROM data block onto the card sequentially, which would indeed wipe out any existing directory structure. I'd have thought a ROM backup/restore utility would have to run at a very low OS level, without any file handling routines installed.

Flash disk now useless.....or is it? Help
I also used WizBackup and I am now left with a corrupt flash MiniSD card that no computer seems to be able to read or format. Does anyone know a way to reformat the card now that i have given it total amnesia??? Any help would be greatfully accepted. Sandisk was useless.
Thanks.
Can one backup Rom to PC and restore from PC if one doesnt have SD Card??
Thanks
As Andrew posted, it writes the data onto the card directly.. Like an image of the ROM. To properly recover your card your gonna need a card reader and a tool to format it. Try this software to recover and reformat the card... http://www.datadoctor.in/
Good Luck
Don't get it..?
First you back up your ROM on a your card, then if it gets corrupt (but it does mostly) you reformat it! What was the point of backing up? Isnt't the data lost..?

I think people are getting confused with the backup util. That util should be used with a 128meg SD which the systems backup the rom image to. Then you can use that card for later restores. But using a 2gig SD with your personal data on it is a no no, since the backup tool will write to the card without regard for format.

WM 6 ext roms?

Hi guys. Here's the deal. Can you flash a WM5 ext rom in a WM6 device. I have a wizard and i'm just wondering. is it possible? or do I need a wm6 ext rom? OH and ive searched my head off and i cant find anywhere with the aforementioned ext roms..........any help? Thanks in advance.
You can (However you may need to use itsutils yourself), however note that software and settings in WM5 ext rom may not be fully compatible with WM6.
btw, you can just use Total Commander and navigate to \Extended_ROM and make a backup to files there to your SD card, then install what you need after flashing WM6, that's the same unless not automatic.

sorry to butt in but WST allows to copy all files (or just some) to the Hard Drive in an easy manner
btw, WST can also be used to flash an extended rom in .nb format (decrypted as a partition image)

Wizard flashing through mini SD goldcard

Hi,
I've got a Wizard stuck at T-mobile logo. Because of its damaged USB data PINS, special SD card is the only way to reflash it.
I've successfully prepared the Goldcard and I'd like to know how to write ROM data to be visible by Wizard. I know that it should be in binary - like it is written with "r2sd all" command.
"r2sd all" writes ROM directly to SD in the way that it is not visible as a file, but it is possible to write this data to a file which will include OS, SPL, IPL, etc. parts. I know that it is also possible to write it back to SD card and than reflash Wizard.
My question is how to use original .nbf file or extracted .nb files to write it to Goldcard and then successfully reflash the device.
Maybe someone has the file with Wizard backup made by "r2sd all" command or could write it and send me?
Thank you for your help.
Marcin.

Help!!!!! Flash topaz problem!!!

Hello. I have two TOPAZ devices, which both have been flashed with a custom ROM. I flashed them around 2-3 months ago. When i tried to turn one back to WM 6.5 Original, it got bricked. So :
1. Can a TOPAZ be restored to the original factory state?
1.1 If yes, how?
2. Is there anyway to unbrick a TOPAZ?
3. Should this be 4?
Excuse my english
Thanks,
Mike
Bricked??? Lets see... To flash the original ROM, do the following:
1. Extract the original downloaded ROM-file (should be an self-extracting .exe file).
2. Copy the extracted .nbh-file to the root of your sdcard and name it: TOPAIMG.nbh.
3. PowerOn phone holding the VOL-DOWN key pressed until Rainbowcolorscreen apears.
4. Press Power to start internal flashing.
5. After flashing, Softreset...
Thats it... if one of these steps fail, please describe exactly what is happening.

WOW man!! That WAS a fast reply, thanks. I am at work right now, so I can't do much although, how do I extract the rom?
"2] Format your SD card into FAT32:
- go into dos and type:
format <volume> /FS:FAT32 /A:4096
3] Run Qmat to create a gold card:
- Put the formatted microSD card in the working WM device and connect via ActiveSync
- Run Qmat, Go to Hardware Forensics and select 'Generate HTC Goldcard'
- Select your bricked device's key
- Get the SD Card Serial from WINCE Device
- Save the Goldcard image to the SD Card
Now you have a SuperCID which allows you to flash any shipped ROM"
*thats from the sticky under unlocking/flashing*

thanks for the quick responce. so let me get this straight,
: i format my MicroSD
I connect it to my PC and with Qmat I Generate an HTC Goldcard
*didnt get this part* my bricked device's key? how do I do that?
then I use WINCE to get my serial(sdcard)
and now save the goldcard image to sd.
Is this correct?? thanks
Now, after i follow these steps, how do I flash the rom? same way as usual, or is it a special method?
and last, this is for unbricking?
Thanks again.
btw will the method in post 2 work for a fullyworking custom ROM device?
It seems like its basically just allowing you to connect your phone - enter bootloader - and run the .exe (TopazRUU) from your computer to flash a stock rom.
you should read the post in the first sticky, then look at "unlocking/flashing" and you will see #5 Unbricking
thanks
Is your problem solved?
yes, it is!! thanks everyone
