What is hiding the right half-inch of the title bar??? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I did the 2.17 upgrade tonight, proceeded to install my old software, ran into problems with a persistent "notification" that displayed nothing when I clicked the notification button...so I've uninstalled almost everything - got right of the notification issue - and I'm planning to get some sleep now before reloading.
BUT...in the meantime, I'm down to a pretty barebones machine now. A few things left, including:
- resco explorer & registry editor
- MemMaid
- OpenNETCF SDF 1.4
- MS Voice Command
- Wizard Registry Tweaks by xelencin
- Total Commander
(last two from the ROM)
So...as I have the Settings / System / Remove Programs window open, I can see the Cellular signal strength icon in the title bar, and in the upper right corner, the "ok".
As soon as I return to the home page, right half-inch of the title appears to be painted over with the same blue as the title bar itself -- from the right edge over to about half way through the cellular signal strenth icon.
Any ideas about this???

I have this same problem and the only things i have installed are:
- OpenNETCF SDF 1.4
- Wizard Registry Tweaks by xelencin
And I mean, those are the only things i have installed. My guess is that the registry wizard is having problems with the new battery icon thats now on the title bar after upgrading to the new i-mate rom

Try clearing the option to show time, or show date and time, on the taskbar in the Registry Wizard. That should solve it.

Thanks -- I'll have to try reinstalling Registry Wizard for that (unless you know what particular key it changed? Maybe I can find it in the forum...). I had uninstalled Registry Wizard while trying to debug my setup, because of seeing the "Exception" warning every time I ran it..although it *seemed* ok after click "ok" on the warning. I suspect something was wonky with the initial install of it, since I tried it first (accidentally) without opennetcf, got a warning that it was needed, then proceeded to install opennetcf, after which Registry Wizard *seemed* ok....sort of.
I'll try reinstalling Registry Wizard and seeing if it works now.

Messier and messier. Although I *thought* I had uninstalled Registry Wizard, something must be left behind...an attempt to reinstall gave me an error to the effect that a config file couldn't be opened. Looking through directories and trying to make sense of the setup log. I'd like to fix this if possible...if not, I guess I'll just reflash and start from scratch, although I'd really like to get to the point where I can undo individual changes to the system rather than having to resort to starting from scartch each time.

Try this:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Key: TBOpt (dWord)
Value = 0 (show nothing)
Other values:
1=Time
2=Date
3=Time and date
Also, by the way, no need to reflash in the future. Just Clear Storage.

I had found that in the WM5_Tweaks_Other thread and that's the way it's set now (and I just verified after doing a soft reset). Right next to it, I'm seeing a value "ShowTitleBarClock" set to "1". Going to try turning this off and seeing what it looks like. I've browsed the registry pretty deeply, and don't see too many other things that appear to be related (but I know these can be pretty obscure).
I also verified that it's nothing with a particular skin. I switched, for example, to "guava bubbles", and oddly enough, the title bar speaker icon and right half of the signal strength icon show up - for about a second, before whatever it is obscuring them appears. Also - this only seems to be happening on the today screen. Rebooting now...
edited 11:18am EST -
After making the change, soft resetting and verifying that the change is actually in the registry, I still see this (sorry for picture quality - but I think it shows what's masked - right side of signal strength icon, and the entire vol/speaker icon:

btw: thanks re: "clear data" tip - I hadn't quite got to the point where I had reflashed, but I'm close! If it gets to that, I'll clear data instead - thx.

just to check.. did you set the TBOpt value to 0 (zero) or 1 (one)?

I had set it to 0 (zero).
The weird behavior was most visible in the moments after change themes (using WM's own facility for that). As I mentioned above, switching from default, for example, to "guava bubbles" (built into WM5 distribution), I would see a complete normal title bar - for about a second or two, and then something would apparently be written over it in the same color as the title bar. In the picture, you can see that whatever it is only half covers the signal strength icon. If I let the phone site quietly and watch, I can see a momentary blink - as if the screen is getting repainted, and this "mask" is getting refreshed on top of the title bar.
I finally gave up trying to fix this, although I'd love to know what it is (was). Besides this weird painting problem, nothing I did seemed to get Registry Wizard to install properly again. I continued to get the "exception" warning on startup - so something apparently still wasn't kosher, even though I pulled out all the dirs, files and reg entries I could find that seemed related, and also removed opennetcf. I wish WM5 uninstall would actually do a more thorough job!
I finally did a "clear data" and all looks correct once again -- except that I have to slog through reinstalling all my apps -- and I'm HOPING that I don't scrag things again in the process.
Are there any new known app incompatibilities with this version vs the shipping TMo version? For example - the notification issue was experiencing disappeared once I uninstalled iLauncher -- but I don't know if that means anything, since the install itself might have been messed up. I've got Wisbar 2.6 installed and humming along happily, and I'm about to install:
- PocketBreeze
- ContactBreeze
- iLauncher
- MemMaid
- OpenNETCF
- RegistryWizard (should I?)
- PocketZenPhone
- MS Voice Command
- Resco Explorer & Reg Editor
- some Juni skins
BTW: as an aside - WiFi connect is SO fast with this new load! I've got a Belkin "pre-N" setup with WPA/TKIP, and this found it instantly when I turned on WiFi, connected right away, and a little speed test I ran via DSLReports showed me getting about 1100Kbps down into the MDA. Sweet!
More later as I reinstall my apps one at a time... keep your fingers crossed for me -- or if you see something incompatible in my list, please let me know!!!
thx again for everyone's help with this, and for the 2.17 ROM installer in the first place - good stuff!
btw - Wish I could edit the "date" bar in the Today screen, but I can live with that - and may simply turn it off, since I've got Wisbar Adv 2 installed, showing the date and time in the title bar -- only missing the word "Saturday" if I turn off the Today "date bar".

well, that might've been the problem - should be set to 1, 2 or 3 - never 0

OK...can't argue that, just surprised after having read other posts here (and elsewhere as follows:
Open the PPC registry and look for the following key
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Add a D_WORD Value TBOpt and make it equal to 3.
0 - NO time displayed
1 - only Time is displayed
2 - only Date is displayed
3 - Date & Time displayed

I'm going to try not touching it by hand right now. Instead, I'll be installing my apps one by one, soft resetting in between and seeing exactly what works and what doesn't.
thx

Mine is set to 1 with no problem. Sorry I wasn't more clear.
Zeboxx. What problem does setting to 0 cause?

Well, normally if TBOpt is set to zero, the time will disappear from the task bar, and you may be left with a rectangle obscuring icons (which slide to the right as the time is now gone). This is on pre-AKU2 ROMs. Not sure what happens with it on AKU2 ROMs as they poked at the time thing on the taskbar there in horrible ways anyway %) And, of course, if you use some taskbar overlay thing like wisbar advance, then that whole TBOpt thing doesn't apply anyway.

Wow...this "rectangle obscuring icons that slid to the right" sounds exactly like what I was seeing in the WM5 title bar on the today screen.
Does the obscuring rectangle obediantly disappear when you change TBopt back to a non-zero value? (not that this matters for moment for me, since I started over and am gradually reinstalling everything now)

it should, yes. Again, I don't know how it reacts with AKU2 exactly - with AKU2, on the Today screen, there's a big fat battery meter instead of the clock anyway; but it should still apply to the clock when on other screens.
Edit: let me take a few screenshots for your consideration -_-

See attachment for examples of the TBOpt setting.
Note that the SSDte format in use is
Code:
"ddd/d "
The spaces at the end are to make sure that the OK/Close rect doesn't overlap with the date.
It's easy to see that with a value of '0', a rectangle gets placed over the icons (which slide to the right as the time/date is gone), obscuring them entirely or partially.
Also, with a value of '2', there's a small vertical bar present - not sure what the deal is with that
I normally use the value '3' so that both date and time are present.

Excellent! Your picture on the left is exactly what I was seeing -- great explanation too. Also found the detailed code explanation on the microsoft site, although I probably won't be messing with it, since Wisbar Adv takes over title bar formatting. But this is great to know. Amazing, though, the way MS implemented this -- sure feels like a hack job placing an obscuring rectangle on TOP of the title bar. That's the kind of trick we used to play when we were first experimenting with skinning Windows apps years ago on the pc...Txh again for taking the time to detail it out.

Hi,
I try to explain a similar problem in english
I would like to use contactbreeze (v 1.2.0.1) in full screen mode.
This is what happens:
As you can see the contact on top of the list is not visible because the top bar is overlapping it.
I tried all three reg settings but it didnĀ“t help.
Do you have any suggestions for me ?
Marcus

This is a bug inside of contactbreeze.
They said they will fix it in the next release !

cab link:
Download old release here
NEW RELEASE:
Classic Grey Light (new release):
- No system fonts on dailer (landscape or portrait)
- So button text is better alligned.
- light footprint: uses build-in-rom files for smartdail, and backgrounds are png in stead of bmp
- Only 306 KB !!
These skins have smartdail capability.
Known Bugs:
The text/numbers are out alignment first time after reset.
When you slide the keyboard open and close it again it will re-align, and it doesn't happen again untill the next reset.
I STILL have no clue what is causing this..
Skin Builder
I have included a "skin cab builder".
AKU33_skinbuilder.zip is the one based on Classic Grey.
AKU33_skinbuilder_eten.zip is the one based on Eten Skin.
Classic-grey-light_skin-builder.zip is the one based on Classic Grey LIGHT
Extract the zip, edit the BMP's in the "windows" folder.
Do not RENAME the windows folder OR it's content!
Double-click on the make-cab.bat, and a cab will be build.
To personalise the cab, edit the dailerskin.inf
Have fun and post the results here
Some added information
Shamelessly copied from Tofclock in the buzzdev.net forum..
This is about the registry settings, so you can modify the inf to your personal needs:
For VerbButton and talkendbutton :
"textFlags" is the text position on button :
dword 0 : top left
dword 1 : top center
dword 2 : top right
dword 4 : middle left
dword 5 : middle center (default value)
dword 6 : middle right
dword 8 : bottom left
dword 9 : bottom center
dword A : bottom right
"textColor" is the text color when button is Normal or Pressed
dword value : BBGGRR (default value is 0 (000000))
where BB , GG , RR is value 0 -> FF
eg. FF0000 -> blue color , 00FF00 -> green color ...
"textDisabledColor" is the text color when button is Disabled
same as above for dword value
"textRCMLStyle" is the text font style on button
dword 0 : small size , normal
dword 1 : medium size , normal
dword 3 : small size , bold (default value)
dword 11 : medium size , bold
dword 20 : very big size , bold
dword 21 : big size , bold
dword 22 : big size , normal
For dialbuttons
minor prefix is for letters
major prefix is for numbers ...
colors are same as above
RCMStyle are same as above
Flags are same as above but letters and numbers are not superposable
Another dword value to set order of dialbutton text :
"textLayoutFlags" :
dword 0 : Numbers , then Letters
dword 1 : Letters , then Numbers
dword 2 : just Numbers (No letter)

[EDIT] 01.feb.'07:
Found a way to disable Text/numbers in the dailpad:
"MajorFlags"=dword:000f0f0f
"MinorFlags"=dword:000f0f0f
On other buttons, to disable system text you should use:
"TextFlags"=dword:000f0f0f

Used the grey skin today... same thing about misalignment.
Just tried blue... it won;t close properly. Tried "close all" from both iLauncher and Oxios also, which both closed the phone screen but seemed to leave an instance in memory. FreeUP RAM from SK Tools seemed to close it, but then on re-opening phone the text is misaligned.
Will keep playing with it.
Oh, also, smart dial on the blue dialer only seemed to work once.
Soft reset, and now the text seems permanently misaligned on blue.

I haven't encountered these problems with blue one yet.

I'm using the blue from the cab files. not from the skin builder.apart from the given open close keyboard . there is nothing wrong with it. it stays aligned and smartdial works all the time. I will try to use the blue from skinbuilder tonight to see if there are other problems. I actually built a new skin last night but the cab wouldn't load. also I noticed that that my new cab was much smaller than the blue one. I must have missed a step somewhere .this leads me to my other problem. all I want to do with the blue skin is to add some words to each key. ie where it says abc2 I want it to say bhai2. where can I change this? thanks
Using the grey
Works very well for me.
The issue with the misalignment is a pain, but I can live with it until someone posts a fix
Maybe this helps?

I am my work now, so I can't give "full service" to you guys right now
However;
Please try the following: go with an registry editor to:
HKLM > security > phone > skin > dailer > Portrait > Dailbutton
add new string: "textFlags" with dword value: "4"
You can do this for Landscape also (There the misalignment is even worse)
This should allign the dailbutton text to Middle left..
You have to reset to make changes visible.
[edit]
It seems "textFlags" doesn't work.
It worked in other versions of the dailer software..

Is this a problem with Smartdial 2.5?
Everything was working fine for me yesterday with the base Faria 3.3 ROM V2 (Great job Faria - Thanks!!!) on my Wizard G3.
I then updated with the patch which provides 2.5 smartdial, and the blue dialler skin.
Immediately saw this problem. Uninstalled the skin, still the same problem with the base skin. First time after soft reset, smart diall works. Just make a call, end it, and the next time you call (I didnt press any X buttons or anything) and no smartdial.
I did a hard reset, which made me lose the 2.5 smartdial ( in addition to the other stuff obviously) and this time I only installed the dialler skin.. and no problem with smartdial.
Seems like there may be a problem with 2.5 smartdial - but since on one else said so... I dunno.
What is your experience guys?
Thank you for the ROM Faria, you rock!

Manu

If you close the dailer with such app it will be forced down and smartdail won't open again..
Once loaded, it should be closed on the old fashoned "windows-style"
(meaning, not realy closing it..)
BTW, I have no way in alligning fonts, textFlags doesn't allow that.
Instead I am busy editing Classic Gray with predrawn numbers/text BUT with smartdail functionality.
It requires redrawing Landscape background and adjusting the registry settings because I added some extra button functionality will be released soon..

try this program LVM Time, it should do this just fine. attached.
once installed, you can access it in the Today Plugin settings. You can change the settings of the LVMTime also by clicking on the plugin, and you should see OPTIONs highlighted. click it and should be able to change the settings.
there's also a registry hack but it also requires that the time be moved to the title bar (even when on the today screen). You can use Kaiser Tweak or Tweaks2k2 to do this for you.

home plugin date format
hello,
htc home plugin seems to use SSDte - how to switch it to SLDte?
any tweak?
my SSDte = d-MM-yyyy, dddd (9-01-2008, Wednesday)
my SLDte = dddd, d MMMM yyyy (Wednesday, 9 January 2008)
in the home plugin I'd like to have "Wednesday, 9 January 2008" displayed, but on the other hand it's too long for other applications (like call history) to present info clearly - so for them shorter SSDte would be OK
but only for them, leaving home plugin with the longer version
is it possible to change htc home plugin date format into SLDte?
TIA 4 any suggestions

I would love to see that too but I think it's hard coded into the today plugin. Maybe one the guys who have disassembled the home today could fix that for you. I rather like the one I use now for short date, it works in all apps as it's still short enough: MMM-dd-yy

What is so frustrating is it just STARTED displaying the date on two lines and I can not figure out what I or a program did. The date has always remained on one line through several hard resets, many programs installs, and registry edits. Until just now.
I performed another hard reset, installed Pocket Informant 8, SKTools, PocketBreeze, and PocketPlus. Unfortunately for me, I have been busy adjusting settings, so I am pretty clueless as to the exact point that the date suddenly started using two lines. Argh.
Any ideas? Thanks.
navigate to HKLM\nls\overrides and edit (or add) the string value SLDte to:
dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy
That will display: Friday, January 11, 2008
I currently have: ddd, dd MMM, yy
Which displays as: Fri, 11 Jan, 08 on LVMTime plugin (and the original stock MS date/time plugin, i use LVM as i like to see the seconds roll by) as it is always small enough to fit on one line with the time w/seconds, your version will wrap to 2 lines due to days like this:
Wednesday, September 22, 2008 (tooo long )
hope this helps anyone out....

when it comes to things that unexpectadely change on their own on Kaiser - there are more of them, like SIP switching without any reason...
but concerning date in one line - this topic has been discussed. it can be fixed with Kaiser Tweak or registry edit. also, some cabs and ROMs with the fix are available on the forum
let me know if you have any trouble finding them

Why load more cab's when you can simply edit the registry to achieve the desired effect? Maybe the TIME is also displayed on that line? Or it is BOLD or the TEXT size changed? Anything?

The time is not displayed and the text size has not changed (global setting, anyway). Though, it may be bold for some reason.
Right now it is back to one line. I did another hard reset and the date returned to one line. After installing SKTools, PocketPlus, and PocketBreeze, the date changed again to two lines. I again missed the exact thing I did except that the date changed after rebooting from a soft reset. I tried uninstalling the three programs listed above, one at a time and doing a soft reset after each uninstall, but the date remained on two lines. Then I reinstalled the three programs and after another soft reset, the date changed back to one line. STRANGE.
So right now the date is ["correctly"] displaying on one line. After it changes again to two lines, I will try the registry edit that DrG suggested.

This did not correct the situation. After editting the registry, soft resetting, it still displays as:
Friday
January 11, 2008
Though I swear the clock icon next to the text is bigger. I will try to find an app for screen captures to verify. Any suggestions for a free one?
tried Kaiser Tweak?

hello,
htc home plugin seems to use SSDte - how to switch it to SLDte?
any tweak?
my SSDte = d-MM-yyyy, dddd (9-01-2008, Wednesday)
my SLDte = dddd, d MMMM yyyy (Wednesday, 9 January 2008)
in the home plugin I'd like to have "Wednesday, 9 January 2008" displayed, but on the other hand it's too long for other applications (like call history) to present info clearly - so for them shorter SSDte would be OK
but only for them, leaving home plugin with the longer version
is it possible to change htc home plugin date format into SLDte?
TIA 4 any suggestions

My SSDte looked the same way, and I looked at http://www.pcoperative.com/ppc/registry_tweaks.htm#Override Date & Time Format which helped me fix the date in Word Mobile. The day of the week was spelled out, which was irritating because I couldn't read the whole document title. Changed it to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls\overrides
"SSDte"=MM/dd/yy
"STFmt"=hh:mm:ss
"SLDte"=dd MMM, yyyy
and I can read the titles again.

Windows start icon cut off...

I just noticed that the Windows icon on the upper left of my screen which opens the start menu, is cut off. Only the left half is visible and it makes it more difficult to tap to open since the icon width is half the original size. Is there a way to fix this?? BTW I did a search and there was no info available on this...
try schaps advanced config,if problems still happens then try hard resetting, you might need a different rom

This was an Issue on Dutty's April 1 Hybrid ROM. Did you look in there for solutions? I don't think there was. Was a bug in the Rom.
Thanks for responding. I was finally able to figure this one out. I opened WkTask from preferences and there is a setting for horizontal offset. I just increased the value in the box and it fixed it in "real time" ie as I increased the number the open program field moved to the right, uncovering the Windows icon and giving me improved access to tapping it to open the start menu. All is well!

Shortcut to COMPLETELY Shutdown / Power Off the Kaiser? **SOLVED BY _DrG_**

My apologies if I've missed an answer to what seems like a fairly straightforward question. I searched around and found the question asked a few times over the past few years, but unfortunately no satisfactory solution. Perhaps this has now changed?
Does anybody know of a shortcut to COMPLETELY shut down / power off the Kaiser? i.e. the equivalent of pressing and holding the power key, then selecting "YES" at the "Power will be turned off and you may lose data if you have not saved them. Do you want to continue?" warning (sorry for overemphasising this but in previous threads people have offered answers which referred to the screen off / semi-power off / suspend state - not what I'm after in this instance).
psShutXP is a useful program but the "Shut Down" option does not completely shutdown my Kaiser - i.e. it wakes immediately on sliding the keyboard or pressing the power key.
I have seen suggestions that \WINDOWS\PowerOffWarning.exe might be the solution - I cannot get this to run from Total Commander or File Explorer, nor can I get it to run from a shortcut. Is it protected in some way as a system file?
If possible I'd like to achieve this without installing any software, or at least just installing something with a very small footprint - i.e. not iLauncher, Wisbar etc (which are fine pieces of software but I like to keep my machine as fast and lean as possible). I'd be quite happy with simply being able to raise the Power Off Warning mentioned in the first paragraph with a shortcut, rather than having to having to hold the power key down. As part of my job I need to frequently switch my device completely off. I am running WM6.1.
Many thanks and again, my apologies if I've missed an obvious answer to this. My portion of humble pie is on the table in front of me, ready to be eaten...
http://tiltsite.com/2008/04/tiltsite-software-spotlight-psshutxp/
It's an awesome app and takes up almost no space.
Thanks for the reply, but as mentioned in my first post psShutXP does not completely shut down / power off my device - it simply puts it into the low power sleep / suspend mode (where it can still receive calls, texts etc. and will wake immediately if you slide the keyboard).
I am looking for a shortcut to completely turn off my device, just like when you hold down the power key for a few seconds and hit yes when the warning comes up.
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks.
JC6 - I've been in the position for a while - and I've still come up with nothing.
I agree psShutXP is a useful application, but the power off function doesn't do what it's supposed to.
raiisak was going to work on one a while back, but I'm not sure if he ever got to it.
Yeah, I figured that if there was an answer to this one it would be easy enough to find on a search - it seems like the kind of thing quite a few people would want so I guess it would have been done by now if it was easy to do.
I'm not a programmer, but surely when you press and hold the power button it is executing some sort of shutdown function which can somehow be accessed through alternate means? \WINDOWS\PowerOffWarning.exe would seem like a likely candidate for this (and has been mentioned on a few threads) but it won't run when you try to access it directly (on my Kaiser / WM6.1)
I tried using VJKeyPress (great program) with a shortcut to the power key but it only seems to emulate a single short press. I couldn't see a numeric key code for a long press of the power key.
If anybody comes up with anything it would be very much appreciated...
Hi, has anyone come up with a solution for this. I have been searching the net for a while now to achieve this and have tried numerous software programmes, but have found none that achieve a complete shutdown of the device.
Ok had a little play with this, i can get the power off dialogue to appear from a shortcut using any one of the following commands and parameters in a .lnk file:
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe", "PowerOff"
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe" \ExitWindowsEX (EWX_POWEROFF, 0)
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe" \ExitWindowsEX (EWX_SHUTDOWN, NULL)
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe" \ExitWindowsEX
Not sure if any of this helps you guys out but i've attached an example, maybe some else will know a way to be able to bypass the yes/no prompt.....
Well this seems to have completely solved the problem, thank you so much! I couldn't be completely sure, but I spent a LONG time searching around for a solution to this issue, and I believe this may be the first time it's been successfully implemented (which is surprising given how it would seem like a function quite a lot of people would want).
Personally I'm not too bothered about the yes/no warning - it gives me chance to abort the process if I select it by accident.
Thanks a lot _DrG_, nice job!

Nice job!! I know the OP said "No extra software" but just though I'd throw in that I bet MortScript could be wrapped around this link and hit the Yes for the user.
Now I'm trying to think of how I'd use this...
how you sposed to put this shortcut on today screen?
Personally I access mine from WM5NewMenu (I love this program) - you could also put it in the start menu (copy the shortcut to \WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS and it will then show up as as an option for one of your items in the Start Menu).
If you want it to appear on the today screen then any program which allows you to launch shortcuts from a today plugin (e.g. iLauncher etc. - you may well already have something like this) will do this for you. It's "just" a shortcut (which is the best thing about it - i.e. no need to install anything extra which clogs up your system).
Cheers.

Cool. Glad i could help out here
Oh for those with mortscript try this, it'll bypass the prompt (well click the yes of the prompt) for you, so nice and automated!:
Code:
Run("\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe", "PowerOff")
Sleep(750)
MouseClick(80,185)
you may need to tweak the sleep parameter, 750 does it for me....
also my mortscript .mscr example is attached in the zip for reference....

coz im a nice guy, heres how you do it, well the "easy way" (as apposed to assigning the icon to the PowerOffWarning.exe then having to resign it to reflect the icon... )
Just keep the PowerOff.exe installed on your device, wherever it doesn't matter, ill assume for now is in \Windows\ on your device.....
basically the .lnk would have to look like this to use the icon your after:
Code:
31#"\Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe", "PowerOff"?\Windows\PowerOff.exe, -101
OR if you have the PowerOff.exe somewhere else on your device, just replace ?\Windows \PowerOff.exe with your location
Here's the updated .lnk with the icon parameter pointing to the PowerOff.exe if its in \Windows\....
You may require a reboot to reflect the change on your device....

WOW! _DrG_is the man! I was looking for a long time too for someone who figured this out. Thanks a million! Just one request to anyone out there to make this even better. Can someone please figure out how to map this shortcut to the "shutdown button" on psShutxp. THAT WOULD THEN BE AN AMAZING APP! Please can someone figure out how to do that. Thank you!

Great, thx
As soon as I just started to read DrG's solution on previous page I decided to make a cab, but you have already done it. thx
(and BTW @OP: is your power off button on your kaiser broken or you just wanted it just because psshut didnt work correctly?
Personally I'd still use the physical power off button on my kaiser, but certainly it is great idea for other devices that may not have such option, ie my old iPAQ6515)
/edit
@surur
I see you used hardcoded path to "\Windows\Start Menu" rather than %CE11% or %CE17%
You are aware it makes your cab for WWE only, right?
Could someone please please please integrate _DrG_'s amazing find into psShutXP so that the "shutdown" button actually shuts down the phone. Im sure a lot of people would really like this.

Performance on Rhodium
[EDIT]
I am using the full version now, which shas an option to disable the original start menu, which saves alot of memory.
Performance is great on the Rhodium
[/EDIT]
I wanted to try it on the Tilt 2, because it is a memory starved device.
There is no memory advantage to using this over the normal start menu.
It looks nice, and the recent program list is great.
But for the Rhhodium, memory is critical, so I will go back to using the Panel Stat menu cooked into Energy ROMs.
It would be nice if the free version would have had the graphic transitions when opening folders. It looked cool on the demo that was done on an HD2, but, other devices, such as my Tilt 2 or my Fuze, are slower.
I would want to see that performance before purchasing. If I could see that I would consider purchasing it for my Fuze.
But, as far as the memory usage. I can't use it with my Tilt 2. It consumes more memory than having the original start menu.
The full version can disable the original start menu, so you can spare approx 30 Mo in RAM.
The demo was done on an HD (older than Tilt2) and no problems. I think it will be smooth for both (Tilt2 and Fuze), but I'm not sure of that!
I can't create a demo version with graphic transitions, too much work...
As you are a "productive and contributing member", I can give you a serial... Send me a PM if you are interested!

Thanks.
While testing the full paid version, I am very impressed.
I have more memory available than before, when I was using the Panel Start menu available in Energy Roms.
This start menu is great.
Starts faster.
More responsive.
Better transitioning graphics.
Graphics are very smooth on my Tilt 2.
And the most recent program feature is really nice to have.
This is definitely worth the money.
Thanks for this feedback
WinStart with CHT Softkeys
First of all very nice!!
I purchased the full version at your referenced site.
I am having a problem. I use CHT 2.0 on my NRGZ28 ROM, and I use the CHT Softkeys. I cannot get WinStart to pull up the start menu using the "StartMenu" CHT softkey. If I disable the CHT softkeys, the the normal StartMenu icon works fine.
Within CHT SoftKeys, there are ways to set key assignments:
"Run path" which prompts me to enter an application to run. WinStart is not a listed application.
"Command Line" which prompts me to "enter command line parameters". I don't know what to do here?
Is there a way you can get this to work with the CHT SoftKeys?
I have CHT2.0 too, but I never used the SoftKeys...
I take a look and come back to tell you how do this.
WinStart with XDA_UC
Thank you...while waiting...I'll ask another question.
I flash ROM's a lot when new versions come out. I use XDA_UC to install my various apps that I use. WinStart will DEFINITELY be one.
My question: On a fresh install with a new ROM, is there a registry key or something that I should install along with the cab to get the initial "fresh-install" parameters - username/password information - automatically applied?
OK, so it's not as easy as I thought... I try something but it work only the first time... What I do :
In HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila
>Set CHT.Softkeys.KeyCustom1.Path to: \Program Files\winstart\winstart.exe (no quotes or anything else)
In CHT editor, set icon1 to custom1... But as said before this will work only the first time.
I work on this and in a few days (I hope 24h), I will post a new version.
For the second question, you will have to save these two values :
HKLM/Software/Manila_WinStart/licenceKey and HKLM/Software/Manila_WinStart/password.
You can also export the entire HKLM/Software/Manila_WinStart/ key to save your settings too... If this is not an option for you, tell me via PM, I will send you a patcher...

Hello - I appear to have the same issue as WMG316. After installation and reboot. I can go to \Program Files\WinStart\ and run ConfigWinstart.exe. I select DEBUG, Stop Service, and then Start Service, Back, Save. At this point the Hard and Softkeys work properly until the next reboot. I have not put any WinStart in my Startup folder.
I hope this helps get closer to a long-term solution. I really like this app and it is still worth the money.

Hopefully you'll get that worked out so CHT SoftKeys can be used!!

How to Backup "Renamed Icons"
Another question. I have renamed a few of the icons in the start menu. I cannot locate where these changes are saved. Is there a way to backup these settings for subsequent ROM flashes?
wmg316, you can export registry key HKLM-Security-Shell-Startinfo-Start , which contains data about all links: their position, icon, name & visibility..
Start Menu Hardware Key on Rhodium
Maybe a bug?
Since disabling the CHT SoftKeys I have had no problem initiating the Start Menu with the default soft key. I am still in hopes that you will fix that issue though!
My problem...when I try to use the hardware key start menu on the Tilt 2 (Rhodium) it does not work.
I can get it to work by following these steps:
Use Start Menu soft key to go to Start Menu
Select Menu, Options
At this point the option to "Hook the windows hardware key" is checked...I uncheck this...then check it again and select save
After this process, the hardware key works.
After a soft reset, the hardware key does not work and I have to go through the aforementioned steps to get it to work again.
Yes,I think this problem is the same as CHT softkey (they emulate an hardware keydown).
So I think in a few hours these two bugs will be corrected !
The problem is now solved...
I work on an option to save/restore the settings so I will change the version number of first post when finished.
For now you can install the attached file which correct the bug but don't include the option to save/restore settings...

Confirmed to work:
I uninstalled v2.1 and soft reset
I installed v2.2
Turned on CHT Softkeys
Tested CHT Softkey start menu - worked
Tested hardware key start menu - worked
Soft reset
Tested CHT Softkey and hardware start menus again - worked
Thank you!!
You guys work fast! The issue with the hardware and CHT Softbar starting was my only real issue with this. I bought the paid version and love it. Thank you.
The only other minor cosmetic thing I have noticed is that when you first open the program, it leaves some odd artifacts on the screen as you run it the first time. For example, after a soft reset, the first time I open the menu, I can't see my task bar on top, I see a part of my CHT hometab. Once I close it, it works great for all other openings.
Also, when you click on a program, the animation works fines to zoom the icon at me, but once it is done, the screen briefly jumps back to the start menu background showing me just the icon I clicked on until the program actually opens.
Like I said, purely cosmetic, but I figured I would mention them. Again, thanks a ton for the program, it is by far and away the best start menu I have tried. Light years ahead of even the default WM one.
