Please read this fot basic understanding: http://www.winguides.com/article.php?id=1&page=2&guide=registry
But how do I find it on the phone? or could I configure my 8125 through my pc's HKey?
Open Total Commander,
Make sure that the address is at "\"
Tap on "\\"
Then tap on "Registry"
There you go.
No Offense But dont touch what you dont know
If you dont know what HKEY means, or where its located, or how to access it and what to do with it you really really shouldnt mess with it. All it takes is one minor screw up, mistyped character, to turn you $300 - $600 into a paper weight. I would make sure you know absolutley sure what your doing before you mess with it. Not being mean, but trying to help you save your phone and some potential money. Im pretty sure it would void your warranty.....
I 2nd that Messing with Registry is always risky. That being said I use Resco Explorer and the Registry can be seen and edited via the Registry Editor Shortcut or inside Resco Explorer itself. I'd say do a backup 1st before hacking away... worst case is you do a hard reset if you really mess up IMO. Goodluck
Okey... I have a problem too...
I was able to find a registry folder. However there is no HKEY directory... All I got are: HKCR, HKCU, and HKLM...
How can I find HKEY?
fair enough.
HK stands for HKEY_
LM stands for LOCAL_MACHINE
CU stands for CURRENT_USER
Acronyms.

This is the answer I was looking for.
Thanks a million
Cheers.
I'm new to this also, and although I "shouldn't go messing with the registry," if I don't I won't learn.
I got both Total Commander & PHMregEdit the other day. I was able to navigate to and change the values in the registry to increase the cache size & use the 4-way d-button in Internet Explorer. They were pretty easy because all you had to do was change a value.
However, I would like to enable the Cap-Lock & Symbol-Lock indicator as described in the FAQ & on HoFo. I can get to the Control Panel & then to the keyboard directory, but I'm not sure how to Create a Registry or Create an Entry. Do I click on the "+Add Value+" at the bottom of the directory, the type "EnableIndicator" in the prompt that says "new value #1"? I tried clicking File-New Directory, and it made a folder, but I deleted that because I didn't think that was right.
Any help will be appreciated, I don't know anybody to learn this stuff from or anyplace other than here to learn it. Thanks.

Want to create your own keyboard sliding sounds?WM6 comes with three by default, and you can't add custom ones...
Or can you?
Using a registry editor, nav to:
\HKLM\Software\HTC\SlidingSound
There are 3 keys: 0,1, and 2. These represent the three current sounds: piano, xylophone, and whatever the third is.
Make a copy of one of these and name it 4. Inside 4, set Default to the name for your sound. Then make the In and Out point to the appropriate wav's in the Windows directory.
Soft reset your device, then go to Start > Settings > Keyboard Sliding Sounds. Your new entry should appear in the list.
Hope it helps!!
Ryan
And do you have cool sliding sounds for download. I already searching a long time for cool ones.
Regards, Tommy
Yeap Indeed, Can someone please link us some sliding sounds??it would be very helpfull for the p4350 community
Well, after downloading a bunch of free sound FX, I've chopped them up and sped them up/slowed them down... Here's a few to try. I think they're pretty cool, better than the built in ones at least...
Ryan
I know ya gotta love the Transformers.
the transformers sounds are really cool. i did speed them uip slightly and lowered the volume
guys...what am I doing wrong here? total commander won't allow me to copy or past in any of the directories?
I followed the above steps...but when it comes down to it...I can use the "copy/move" ....but then it won't allow mw to paste.
I also can't copy my sound from my mem card to any windows directory.
I'm totally new to WM and making mods to my WING...any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!
yeah i dont understand how this works either do you guys think you can make more explained instructions thanx

It seems like you try to make a classical PPC copy paste by the tap and hold and you're not supposed to act that way.
Be sure to use the Copy/Move option in the File menu to do so.
Good luck.

i love the sound effects! thanks a lot dude!
Why not just edit the already existing sound effects.. like inside the folder 0 you can edit the in and out entries.. like on my hermes I edited '0' folder in registry to be the transformers sound by editing in with value data of my documets/slider4_in.wav and out with my documents/slider4_out.wave
For those having trouble following this guide, I have one at the HoFo Forums. Should be real easy to follow.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1195063&highlight=Sliding+Sound+Guide
My Take
For those of you who are having trouble creating amd understanding the reg file, any easy way to do it is to just edit the ones already listed. That really is just the easiest. Just make sure you copy your wav files into the Windows folder on your device. And for a treat, my sounds; a Lightsaber!

i guess the easiest way is to
1) download the wav-files and rename then to 3_in.wav and 3_out.wav (the number 3 depends on the number of previously installed sounds)
2) edit the registry on your device (as instructed in the 1st post)
3) connect to activesync.
4) explore your device, go to the windows directory (on the device). and then copy the .wav files into the windows directory.
5) restart the device
6) edit sliding sound settings and it should work
WTF...am I doing wrong
Try as I might (I am regedit savy!) I still can't get this trick / hack / addon to work.
Reg settings seem fine, softreset...nothing...???? WHY
Sound files in windows work perfectly as I've run them directly from a command line address so I know they are pointed to correctly within the 2 paths.
Any help would be appreciated.
SHORTCUT
i first copy original wav to sd. then use the rename trick. right click on original name and select rename. then using the touch screen keyboard press the ctrl key + c. then take the sound u want to use and right click it and select rename. then use touch screen keyboard and press ctrl key + v. now that u have rename ur new sounds with the original name, hightlight both in and out sounds and copy them too the windows folder, overwritting original sound. then go to settings and change sliding keyboardsounds with the original name of one u over written.
are there any programs to allow for slider sounds for the mda???
i have the star trek sounds PM me if you want tehm
Can someone point me to a registry editor for the kaiser?
Thanks

On the main screen where you see files and folders listed. Go to the one marked //Plugins. Open it and you'll see the registry.
I use Total Commander but also PHM - no harm in having both:

I still can't find the registry editor in total commander. Is it possible you could be a bit more specific?
lol
hit "up" a bunch of times until it doesn't take you anywhere
then you will see a folder named "//"
thats where ur registry is.
The registry editor is not like the editor in windows, instead when you open something like total commander you need to look for a folder called \\plugins, in there you will see more folders one named registry and this is the actual equivalent of the windows registry. Click on the registry folder or double click and then you click on the folders to in effect enter the registry, once you are the the correct folder you will see the values which is the registry part you would need to edit, hope this explains.

Thanks, alot. I found it, damn thing was right under my nose. I was looking for "\\Plugins" as stated before, but I my phone it just "\\"
I'm a big fan of SKTOOLS. Not free though.
For some reason, I'm not sure why, when I open File Explorer it just hangs. It keeps loading. I have to go to Memory and end the task. File Explorer always opens up on \Windows. It's probably because the folder is so huge but I'm sure it's something else. Because it crashes I'm not able to install anything else since I can't browse folders. Can any of you guys help? At least for starters, is there a registry key I can change to not make it try reading \Windows at startup?
Okay, I found the regkey and changed start location to "\" and it works now. I still don't know I can't access the windows folder though. it'll hang my system until i can get to my PC and use the remote registry editor.
can somebody recommend a good alternative folder browser?

Total Commander will do the job nicely. BUT honestly I would do a hard reset as if you continue with that problem it will make life a misery in the future and indeed corruption on the windows directory could interfere with other things too.
It's also probable that the likes of Total Commander might also hang.
Unlike the TyTn 1 the Kaiser should open up the Windows directory failrly quickly.

Hello,
really sorry to reopen a thread which might seems outdated but I have the same problem with a WM6.1 HTC Touch Viva T2223 and I can't find the registry key which is involved...
Could someone please tell which registry key indicates windows mobile file explorer start directory ?
Many thanks

Here are two fixes:
Using a registry editor:
HKCU>software>microsoft>file explorer>Local Path (change \Windows to just \)
Last location on 0 (zero)
Reset
And if that doesn't work (this fixed my issue),
then open File Explorer
Click on Menu>Sort> change it to Name
Ive never hacked a WM device and I have no clue how to get to the HKLM so I can make changes. Trying to find this information is exhausting so I figured Id just ask and get a simple answer.
Thanks in advance.
registry editor
as mentioned already, it is a registry value (abbreviated)
HKLM would be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Right, that Ive found out already(through my research). However, my question is how do I get there to use it to change things on my Diamond found here(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417873)?
you need an application to search the registry, try googling for PHM registry editor, I use that and it's good.

Well, if you are not that good on computer stuff maybe you should not touch the Registry Editor.
You could use simple installable .cabs to modify your Jewel how ever you want.
Why don't you state what mod you want to take forth and Members here will help you.
Greetings
if you download an exe file like PHM registry editor
if it's an exe you run it on the computer and it use activesync to install
to the pda
if it's a cab file you copy it to the pda and run it there
but as stated if you dont know what you're doing
messing around with the registry is not adviced

Ok, fair enough. I installed the .cab file for the blackberry connect but have no idea where to go from there.
Secondly, Id love to be able to do the things found on the updated diamond tweaks thread.
ie:
Wake Up on New SMS --> HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL : DisableSMSWakeUpEvent <-- set to "1" by default. Change value to "0"
Prevent screen switching off during phone call --> HKEY_Local_Machine\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastD ormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (Note: does not work on all ROMs)
AND (tested and works on EU ROMs thanks to Rod65)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep switch value from 1 to 0
Adjust screen sensitivity: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel
Value = PressureThreshold
Change from the default dword:00000027 or 34 to dword:000000f0 or 240 in decimal
Automatically lock your Diamond --> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockEnable from 0 to 1 and everytime your backlight goes off the device is locked
Enable Better Power Management
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SIM_Class
Set DisablePowerManagement = 0 (default=1)
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\MMC_Class
Set DisablePowerManagement = 0 (default=1)
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\NAND_Class
Set DisablePowerManagement = 0 (default=1)
Thanks. Sorry for being such a pain.

Part of my problem is Im running off a mac mostly. I have a PC on the side but I hate using it. I figured thats the only way I can get to the registry on the phone though.
Prob best to install either Diamond Tweak or Advanced config which is like a GUI interface to do alot of the registry tweaks plus alot more.
I would also suggest that you'd get a little more help if you wouldn't use such obnoxious terms as "WTF" in the title of your post.

I didnt realize it was obnoxious. I was trying to reiterate my confusion in an extreme fashion. Sorry if I offended anyone.
I'm trying to use Sashimi auto installer, but I can't find the registration key for these software in the registry... Anyone know a fast way to find them?
- Anton Tomov Pocket Mechanic
- DinarSoft.MemMaid.v2.3.Build.230
- PPCLink HiCalc v2.5.1
- Resco Explorer 2008 v7.05
- Resco.KeyBoard.Pro.v5.01
- Resco Registry Add-in
- z2remote v1.2
Not that important
- Resco Audio Recorder
- Makayama.com Pocket Live TV
- Astraware Solitaire
- Glu Mobile Super Slam Ping Pong
- Hexacto Soccer
I'm not asking for the registry key (that's illegal). I'm asking for the registry of these softs which I've already installed and registered in my device.
The only thing i can think of (and im taking a long shot) is download a registry editor and use it to see if there is a folder with the registration there.
Can you dump the registry, before and after the registration and then compare the Hive using something like Winmerge?
I keep meaning to this my self, but never have time

Some mod Suggested me to do the samething, but I don't quite understand how to do that.
So I have to backup all the REG in 1 reg file, then install my program, then do another Full REG backup and finally compare them?
Isn't it way too much especially the *.reg file is like 0 000001000 021? What do you mean by comparing the Hive? can I just like compare the folder name?

The Hive is just another name for the whole Registry.
If you have two .reg files they should be plain text and easy to read. Find and download WinMerge and just use it to compare the two reg files. The difference is the probably going to be the registration data.

Dave
Havent done this for a while, but I used to use SKtracker. Basically it makes a log of your registry. Then apply the registration and run sktracker again. It will then compare the two logs and list everything that has changed.

Is it a good idea if I put all the cab in the CAB folder and the full registry backup file into the REG folder, instead of making 1 reg for each cab?
The only problem I can see here is if I switched to a completely new Rom. So if I make 2 registry backup files for HKLM\software and HKCU\Software, it should do the trick right?
