I have the Tmobile mda, i first downloaded he custom 2.17 and did the CID unlock and upgraded from 2.08
all was fine till now..
Then i changed service providers to move to cingular so i downlaoded the lokiwiz to unlock the phone.
copied the cab file to the storage card and installed it.
next activesynced and after it completed
i then ran the BAT file on the PC.
next it opened a DOS window and i clicked U to unlock (first it was giving errors) then i read to remove the SIM. did it again and this time it created the bin file on my PC for lock and unlock and then errored out saying something to the effect of "error writing to disk"...
it also showed DONE after the unlock process where it show a long /HEX string for old code and new code.
I stick the Cingular SIM (64k) in there and it boots and says NETWORK LOCKED okease enter ubnlock code..

Best Rom for my T-Mobile Vario

I got now:
IPL, SPL: 1.03
GSM: 1.4.10.0
OS: 1.3.2.3
ROM versie: 1.3.2.3 NLD
Radioversie: 01.04.10
Can you tell me.. do i need to upgrade? What will be better when i upgrade?
With which ROM do i need to upgrade?
Please help.
Qtek ROM version 1.6.7.1
In my humble opinion; Qteks 1.6.7.1 ROM is the most stable ROM to date. Everything works perfectly for me with all my 3rd party software installed too!!
PS if you haven't already done so, you can totally unlock your phone from T-mobile by following the following instructions. Also do searches for the quted software (download them first):

I wonder whether you had any problems during new rom installation...
I tried this ROM, but after the installation was finished, Etx_rom installed and system rebooted I got a "device locked message. illegal ROM, given only to customers who bought their wizard/qtek at ...[]" I had to go back thru several instals to restore my original ROM (which i never truely accomplished - i have no ability to change ring tones and assign them to different contacts)

Hey back at ya.
First download lokiwiz v2b. Don't use previous versions or you'll not get through this!!
Hard reset your device (not necessary, but it ensures you'll have no hassle with Activesync).
Done that? Good. Extract the lokiwiz v2b .zip folder and copy enablerapi.cab to your memory card or to 'My Documents' folder on your device. Then execute the 'enablerapi.cab'.
Done? Just switch off the device (power button; put it in standby mode).
If you have Activesync already installed, un-install it and re-install directly afterwards (ensure a brand new partnership).
Then when prompted by Activesync, plug in your USB cable PC-PPC and it should recognise as usual.
Then execute the lokiwiz.bat file (in the folder that was generated earlier when you extracted the lokiwiz02b.zip file) and when you see the MS Dos (black screen) choose the option CID Unlock (SuperCID) and wait for it to COMPLETELY finish. You'll know it's finished when your Wizard is re-booting. Plug out your USB cable at this stage.
Once re-booted and back into WM5, re-connect your cable and if all goes well it should re-connect to Active Sync (wait till it has finished syncing or says connected!).
Finally......double click the executable file, which should be:
RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
Hopefully it will now install the ROM without hiccups (about 10 minutes).
Hope this helps. let us know how you get on.

Re: Qtek ROM version 1.6.7.1
Will the follwoing also work with the Cingular 8125. I haven't SIM unlocked it yet. Also, is a SIM unlock the same as a CID unlock. Is there tow different things that need to be unlocked. And which do I do first, if there are two things that I must unlock. Thanks for the help...and sorry if this questions has been answered before...

I don't know if this will work with the 8125, but If under 'Start/Settings/System/Device Information/Identity' it says 'WIZA200', i would assume so, as it was created for the HTC Wizard, but I'm not sure.
As for totalyy unlocking your phone, YES it will. CID Unlock did it for me, but I'm not the developer of this software so am not in the best position to advise if it is suitable for anything else other than a Wizard.
Hope this helps.

When I double click on the new Rom, does it erase everything on the Vario (Programs) ?! Do I first have to sync and then put the new rom on it !?
what r the main diffrences between the roms ?
I have a T-Mobile Vario with a german rom and I'm thinking about putting the RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_WWE_Ship or the
RUU_Prodigy_1060701_101_11310_QTEK_GER_Ship
on it, which one is better and again what r the differences between those two and the original ?
or is there even a better one !?

Absolutely 100% perfect working tutorial. CID unlock worked as did the new ROM. I too changed form MDA T-mobile NL version to Qtek WWE one.
Great tips. Thank you very much, you just saved me a few 100 euro's, and I got a device which is useful and faster.

Downgrading WinMob 5 to Win2003SE

Hi there
I'm trying to downgrade my Qtek9090. I have WinMob 5 and I want it to be the Rom from http://www.orange.ch/offers/orangePhones/spvM2000/spvM2000Rom?ts=1144157178509.
Now, I got the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and I did just use it like its written...
Now I have Win2003se but none of that stuff provided by Orange in this Rom (At the first start it said some stuff was missing and it xould be deleted). Then I tried again without the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and still get a country error...
Do I have to re-partition the memory like I did for the WM5 update?
Thx for answers...
greetz
Well for wm5 you most lickly got rid of your ext rom as you wanted it for storage.
So now there is no place to flash the extrom so the cabs that are part of the extrom do not run and thus you get no ORANGE related files.
What you need to do is create a new EXT rom partion and flash the rom again.
This time you can delete the radio.nbf and the NK.nbf and just leave the MS.nbf (it will be a lot faster).
First of all, thanks for the reply!
great...now, how do I do it? Do I need a special size of the rom?
Sorry to say this but.....
Please read wiki
Ta
For more info you can read here
omfg this looks like work..
Sorry MDAIIIUser I used the search button (but only for the forum, my bad)...But anyway, I know you are very busy just read some threads while waiting for an answer...But you're doing a great job...All of the people here in fact...
i'm also downgrading to WM2003SE according to the directions on wiki,
BUT i have 2 questions:
1. i bought my qtek 9090 as a stand-alone qtek9090 (so not combined with a provider). does this mean i don't need the Extended ROM?
2. i aksed this question in another topic aswell, but lateron i found that this topic is more acurate to my question..so sorry for that!
here's the question:
in the manual, it says I have to download my latest favorite WM2003SE ROM version (which in my case is the Dutch Qtek DANGA001 version 1.40.00, EXTROM 1.40.556),
and FROM that file i should copy the nk.nbf to my "\DOWNGRADE TO WM2003SE\" folder..
and THAT'S what seems impossible to me, since the Rom-update i downloaded is an .exe application, and not a .zip or .rar archive..
so how should i get/extract/copy the nk.nbf file out of this Rom-update .exe file..?
i simply skipped that step but now my device keeps crashing every minute (even DURING soft and hard resets!)
HELP!

execute the application and search in C:\Documents and settings\NAME\Local settings\Temp for your file.
if you don't find it, continue on your application and try again.
thats how i had to do extract the files from my swisscom update file (wich was an exe file too)
I downgraded my spv m2000 from wm5 to 2003 and everything is fine apart from the phone doesn't work.
It just says no service all the time, can anyone help please?
Thanks.
Check the radio version on the boot screeen to see if the device sees it.
Check that you see the version under settings.
Check that you have a sim in the device
Check that you not in flight mode.
ok now onit thanks for the quick reply
Be also aware that in the boot process the radio can sometimes not load, no know reason for this but fixed with a soft reset (stick up the hole).
My device sees the radio version on the boot screen (1.06.02)
I can see the version under settings and i have a sim in and flight mode is off but still no luck.
Shall i try another sim?
Try your sim in another phone (and another sim in that phone).
What do you see at the top of the screen (should be a bar chart with an x) if you have no link.
I put another sim in and now it's all fine GPRS and Phone works
thanks for the help.
Would the device be affected if you had a pin code on the sim?
The sim code is only for the sim card.
Without the sim pin code you can not unlock the sim card.
Thus the radio will not connect to a carrier and you will not beable to phone out.
A phone lock is a lock that stops you putting in a different sim card into the phone (thus you need to stay with the same carrier)
This is a device lock and needs to be unlocked on the device to be able to put in a different sim from a different carrier.
Tool found on wiki
I would think that your first sim is either no longer valid (out of date or is a pre-paid with no money) or it has a sim lock that you dont not have the pin code of and failed to mention that it asked you for it.
Anyway have fun with the BA and read wiki for more info.
Thanks

T-mobile MDA says "Data crashes" with SIM card ins

First I would like to thank everyone for posting their wealth of knowledge on these forums, I have learned a lot.
My problem is just as posted in the subject. I upgraded my phone to the 2.17 T-Mo custom ROM just as the instructions said. Ran cidunlock and everything before flashing. My phone works great as a PDA, but as soon as I put in a SIM card I get the "Data Crashes" error. I even tried several SIM cards from varying providers (T-Mobile, Cingular... etc).
I downloaded the 2.17 ROM from a link on these forums. Now Ihave downloaded the T-Mo original ship OS (from same link as the custom ROM), but it is not an exe and I have no idea how to use the files downloaded. I am not even sure that restoring the original OS will fix this problem. I was going to pay for the program from that imei-check.co.uk site, but unfortunately I can't get my imei (#06#) without a SIM in my phone.
I only found one post about this problem. One soultion offered was to copy thecidunlocked.bin to the phone, but the poster didn't say where to copy the file to on the phone.
I noticed a new program on the hompage here that will unlock any Universal. Will this work to fix my T-Mo MDA?
Will performing a SIM unlock solve this issue?
I did't want to try to SIM unlock or do anything else to my phone without further guidance from some helpful person. Trying not to screw my phone anymore than it is.
I am desperate for suggestions/solutions from anyone that has solved this issue.
Also, with so many different names for the Wizard, what name is the T-Mobile MDA commonly refered to? Is it the MDA Vario? This just makes me more confused about which programs apply to my phone.
Use lockiwiz 0.3a worked with my device after upgrading to qtek aku2.

i have the same problem, i still could not get an answer from here. I have followed numerous tutorials done by others who have had a similar crash. restoring to original tmo rom did not help me. ran unlokwix03a, which gave me the unlock code.
So I did manage to get a unlock code but when I put in a diff sim from another carrier am not even getting the prompt to enter it. so anyone with a solution we realy could use your help.

I used Lokiwiz3a to unlock my custom T-Mo 2.17 ROM MDA phone. I am still getting the "Data Crashes..." error even when I insert a cingular SIM into my T-Mo device. I can't seem to get the input screen to enter the SIM code that I got from Lokiwiz. I even ran Lokiwiz twice, with my T-Mo SIM card inserted ("Data crashes" screen was on) and without it inserted. Then tried again with a cingular SIM and the same error message appears.
Can someone advise me in this issue again?
Thanks
I had the same issue and spent countless hours trying to correct the problem. I tried every Rom and unlocking software I could find. Nothing worked. I'm no expert but from what I have learned there seems to be an issue with the IMEI in the US T-Mobile MDA. A few weeks ago I started having problems with the phone so I went to HTC's US website and downloaded the original shipping ROM, flashed it to my phone, not a single problem. In fact the phone actually worked better. Since it worked so well I figured I'd try one of the cooked Roms. I could always go back to the original right? WRONG. I got the data cash screen and an expensive paper weight no matter what I Tried. I called T-mobile and Htc every day for a week. They were no help. Big surprise. The only solution offered by the two was to send the phone to HTC for repair. They said it would cost $38 US just to look at the phone plus any additional fees for repair. 7 to 10 days to figure out the problem and 7 to 10 days for repair. A few days ago I read that some people were using imei-check.co.uk to solve the problem. I decided to go for it. $38 and 5 minutes later, I know have a working phone. Screw T-mobile and HTC.To get the IMEI you need to take your sim card out, go to the COM manager and turn the phone off. Place the Sim card back in and and the data crash screen wont show up unless you turn the phone back on through the COM manager. Hope this helps.
It looks like occassionally it is fixed by going back to the original rom, but not always - then unlocking and reflashing.
Most success with this http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ cost 30-40 bucks but most cases seems to work.
Read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43319
IMEI-Check.co.uk definitely works. I got the same data crash message after I upgraded to 2.17 and their solution worked immediately. BTW the IMEI is printed on the phone right underneath the battery. Whatever you do don't assume the IMEI printed on the box is the one on your phone.
Thanks for everyone's help!! I finally broke down and went to the IMEI site and paid for the program to fix it. My phone is working beautifully now!
Just in case everyone is wondering what I did before I decided to pay for the IMEI and wanted to try before buying a program...
Having the 2.17 ROM installed when I started to have this problem, I first decided to try the method suggested here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=50768
That still came up with the "Data crashes..." error with both T-Mo and Cingular SIM cards inserted. The same as the method in the above link (Lokiwiz3a, etc...).
So then I decided to try an alternative method followed by in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47848
Which involves downgrading, then unlocking, then upgrading. Also with no luck on removing the "Data crashes..." error. I tried inserting my SIM after the downgrade and running Lokiwiz02b and still same error message.
Then I finally broke down and paid for the IMEI unlock program as posted in this thread (suggested by meschle, and in many other threads):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43319
If the two previous methods mentioned before the pay method do not work and you decide to pay for the IMEI unlock mentioned: PLEASE follow jt_armstrong's advice (mentioned in above post) for obtaining your phones IMEI # when ordering the program!!
Since I did it as a last resort, it was already too late for me to obtain the IMEI from my phone as the pay website suggests (dial *#06# on your phone). This is due to when I insert my SIM the "Data crashes..." message comes up and there is no way I could obtain my IMEI without looking at the label behind my battery.
All is well now after running the $38 program. I finally realized (with the help of the previous posters, and other threads in this great forum!!) I have exhausted all other options.
Unless you can wait for someone to come up with a definitive solution to this rare (from what I have read) problem, I highly recommend using IMEI unlocking program. I have been trying to find a solution for about 5 days in the forums and this was my last resort...
i got the same problem and fixed it with the paysites....BUT i know i could have fixed it without them...had i saved the locked_bkp.bin file that unlock software generated the first time...
If any of you has the file, they can figure out how to write it to the phone by reading out the .bat file that came with the lokiwiz...
If you tried to unlock it twice....forget about that because the second time the software actually overwrites the backed up file with the crashed one it reads from the phone...
Not to sound to dumb or nieve, i ran lokiwiz, it gave me my unlock code, but when I put a cingular sim in my tmobile device it never asked me for the code. The phone works with both my T-Mobile sim and a Cingular sim. Can I assume than that my Wizard is sim unlocked even though I never had to put in a code?

Sounds like it is unlocked to me, but I am no expert. Just figuring if you can use two different SIM cards (not form the same company) in a phone, then it is unlocked. That seems logical, but who knows, maybe T-Mobile isn't being logical and Cingular SIMs normally work with T-Mobile phones. I never actually tested that idea...
To those that find themselves in this situation i just want to tell you that i didn't have to pay to fix my phone. I simply used itsme's tools to flash a new CID block back to the phone (lucky for me that i had a backup of it before facing this problem)
The reason for this is checksum errors in CID block (last 8 bytes of the 64k section) which may occur from bad flashing process or, as in my case, for messing with SPL messages with mtty program.
So all you have to do (if you have a G3 DOC model) is make a backup of CID block before upgrading rom (machinagod's programs create that file automatically when CID unlocking - even if it generates write errors). If the accident happens then downgrade SPL/OS to version 1.06 or bellow and flash the backup CID
cheers

how can i flash the backup cid ? is there any program because i only got 3 .bin-files and dont know what to do with them.
I have another question. What is the difference between the normal IMEI number and the CID-IMEI cause my device has 2 different ones.

Where did you get those 3 bin files?
The IMEI is stored at two locations:
the gsm_data block and that's where the device reads it from when you browse the "Device Information" ("Identity" tab)
and the CID block as well where i believe that cprog.exe (the GSM app) reads it from
Now the "Data crashes" error might come from bad CID block checksum or from the existence of two different IMEI numbers of these two locations (i tested it )
Use my program again to read the gsm_data IMEI (use the "Read IMEI" button) and see what IMEI you get

CIngular 8125 Freezes during bootup

I recently tried to upgrade my phone's radio rom file to a 2.25.11,
But I failed to realize that this was for people who had roms 2.x I still have a 1.x. Now every time I bootup, it takes over 90 seconds to do so, then it freezes at the part where I have to enter my 4 digit security code. I enter the first digit and it just freezes. Is there anyway I could revert back to the old settings, or heck... just fix it. I plug in the usb to my laptop, but it does not recognize it due to the fact that I don't believe it's completely booted up. Is there any help for me, or did I just created an expensive chalk block?
Thank You guys in advance.
BTW I did search this fourm for bricking of wizards and many other searchs but to no avail.
Go into the bootloader, connect the USB cable to the computer and the Wizard and reflash the stock ROM to the device.
Now, do a CID unlock and reflash with the ROM of your choice.

First of all, the file from HTC is corrupted. Period.
Second, follow these simple instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47848&sid=79d9599e2f6c9c0ddc50fda4f116469e
Third, install whatever ROM you want.
For a ROM upgrade to be successfull you must unlock first and follow the instructions.
Sorry if I'm a little rough but this is documented and documented here, time after time.

Wizard/MDA/8125 Unlocking for Dummies

Well after getting my Wizard a few months ago I looked into unlocking it. The tutorials I found weren't the best because of how many threads they linked to you too which contained more reading to find a simple link. Well I've hosted all the apps you'll need to get your G3 Wizard unlocked with a step by step instructions.
1.Find out if you have a unlockable Wizard meaning G3, if you have a G4 this isn't the thread for you.
you'll see these numbers when you turn on your device
G3 DEVICE: IPL/SPL: 1.XX or 2.XX or 2.XX.00X (only two zeros)
G4 DEVICE: IPL/SPL: 2.XX.000X(three zeros)
2. Okay now your ready to load the Button Rom which you can download here, just connect your phone and open up this exe and fallow the steps the exe gives you.
3. Once your phone turns back on after loading that rom, you'll see a Beer glass as the first picture confirming you've properly got the Button Rom, Once your phones on DO NOT sync your phone just cancel the Active Sync set up.
4. Now download this Lokiwiz.rar, Unrar it and send the cab to your device install it and restart it. Again DO NOT sync your device with Active sync.
5. Now you'll have a Bat in the folder you unrared. Open that you'll see
U. Unlock
L. Lock
C. CID Unlock(super CID)
Q. Quit
6. if you want to unlock your phone to all carriers hit "u" for sim unlock let it restart and if you want to unlock your CID hit "c" let your phone restart and remember DO NOT SYNC with Active Sync between unlocks
7. Now your Wizards unlocked, Heres the T-Mobile Rom to upgrade your IPL/SPL, Download Here. Enjoy your unlocked HTC Wizard and go flash some new WM6 Roms.
Thanks to everyone that made/cooked the programs/roms used in unlocking the Wizard.

Now my phone didnt do a thing, no restarts or anything. my SPL is still 2.66 and the IPL is 1.01. I didnt connect to activesync the entire time. Then i ran the installer enablerapi and tried the steps over but after hitting U my phone and the program do nothing.
Anyways if anyone can explain why the software isnt working or if theres something else i need to downgrade to etc please pm me or post here thanks!

Enter U and hit enter. Remember u is for Sim unlocking Not Cid unlocking, Cid is C.

nice done with the tutorial but still everyone should still read the tutorials and give this warning: DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK this tread may have been started sometime but i did not see the warning for the noobs that just want to go straight to the unlocking.
Read!! and then read if you have second thoughts and read again just to make sure but DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK
Hi i did this and unlocked my tmobile mda (UK) no problems i can use my dads O2 sim card but i was looking at moving to the three network but when i put my mums three sim card in the phone it doesnt work. Does this mean it hasnt done it corretly or that i just cant use three on this phone.

sounds like you extracted the zip/rar in to a folder where a path to that folder has space in the name e.g. "Program files"
if this is the case try extracting to c:/foldername
that may help
