Hey guys sorry for putting this in all the alpines forums but I really need help.
I have a Xda IIi (HTC Alpine) with a o2 Pay as You Go SIM, and I need the settings for GPRS mobile web.
I got the settings off someone here before (they gave me tap by tap instructions) and it worked, but I had to hard reset my phone, therefore losing all my settings :'(
all I need is the settings so I can get MMS messages that I can't download.
If anyone out there can help me please reply asap
thanks alot
I think the reason you've gotten no answers to this is because you've cleverly avoided (at least it seems) using the

The CAB file is available on the forum, if memory serves it was uploaded by either pug or vijay555. The XDA Developers forum search utility is absolutely useless though, whatever I search for it always just seems to show the latest active threads, so I give up with it very quickly.
I googled using my magic keywords and I came up with a URL: http://www.clubimate.com/support/PPC_OP_SETTINGS/O2_UK_PAYG.CAB . I've not tried it, as I'm on contract, but hell you might as well give it a go. In the meantime, I'm off to find the cab which is hosted on this forum.
For the record also, according to this quite useful site which I've used before (http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html), GPRS isn't available on PAYG. Hmm. Anyway, all the connection settings for WAP and GPRS are on that page.
And from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=233151#233151) I just found:

Hi!
I've been hooked upto HSDPA on my Tytn II for a couple of days now and it appears to have knocked out my IE??? I get the following error message:
"The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again."
Opera mini & pRSSReader are working.
Viigo is not. I get the following error message:
"Error 0
Unable to receive response from the server. Please check your network connection. NameResolutionFailure."
I made a few changes on Advanced Configuration Tool but nothing (I think) that can be the cause.
Any ideas???
Cheers.
Mexy.
Wow ... not even a peep ....

That's Knocked out!!!
Could it be due to proxy?
Is it JUST IE or is it all network in and out of the phone? Maybe you don't have HSDPA and you've basically disabled what does work.
Hi All,
Update: I reflashed? the ROM and everything was working fine (both HSDPA and Internet Explorer).
but now it's gone again.
The only things I've done in the last day or so is to install:
3.5 .NET CF
Advanced Configuration Tool (Havent changed any setting - didnt even open it)
Pocket RSS (also unused so far)
& PDC - Which is a today clock plug in
So I uninstalled .NET but still not working uninstalled ACT still not working ...
I'm stumped
??????

It was just pocket IE and Viigo. Network connection for opera mini and pRSS reader were working fine.
i have this same problem on ATT, i use there media net package and after about 4 hrs of being connected i cannot use IE to browse the web or receive or send MMS's. the way i fixed it was just disconnect the internet connection and let it reconnect when i load IE and poof it works.
hope that helps.
I'm new to the forums but I have tried to read through as much as I can. I updated to 2.2 last week with the update from samsung. I knew that the "update" wouldn't work any better with my work's wifi connection but I wanted to try anyways.
My question is, out of all the roms out there, do any of them work using 802.1x security with authentication through peap and mschapv2?
I can see our network but can't connect to it, our radius servers don't even see my connection attempts. I work in the school's IT department so we have spent a pretty fair amount of time trying to make this work. Not just for me, but for other android users as well.
I've tried using a few of the wifi apps but none of them seem to help.
I am using a samsung captivate on att, not rooted.
Thanks for any help

Add the network manually and select the right authentication method. In settings>wireless
Thanks for the reply but I've been through the whole wifi menu and tried different settings and I can't seem to get anything to work so I was thinking of rooting and loading a rom if enterprise wifi connections are better.
Any rom is basically going to work the same as far as wifi goes. As long as you can select the settings to match your network as shown in the screenshot, it should work.

Not always. If he needs and ad-hoc connection he needs to use a different wpa_supplicant than the one that comes with stock and many of the custom roms. As well, it is possible that the dhcpcd on the rom he is running is not capable to obtain ip/dns/subnet from his particular network.
Take a look here for the dhcp info and here for the supplicant thingy (not sure if is compatible with galaxy s, there was one for SGS floating around but cant find it atm)
If still doesnt work, it should work by editing the bcm... something.conf in data (i dont have my phone with me.)
EDIT: Im using my phone with LEAP / IPsec and is a pain to configure it without an app that someone made for this specific network configuration
Hi guys!
I just got my hands on a brand new Galaxy Tab and inserted my german o2 simcard in it.
I recieved a sms from o2 that I should download and install SADM_security_1_0_29.apk (they provided a download link) to get the mobile web and MMS working.
The Galaxy Tab already choose the right access point for the mobile web and I really can't find any information about this apk that i should install.
Anyone heard of it?

Hi Paschinski and yes I do know that crapp. My problem started at the beginning of Jan 2012.Since Jan 2012 I am asking O2 what about the permissions and why not honestly providing this app on Google Market/now Play. No serious answer so I wrote their data protection officer - no answer even there is German law (BDSG) against their behavior.
I also got an SMS from O2 Germany to download this Software. This should be a app, which configures your phone for O2 connectivity (SMS gateway, mailbox, internet access point etc.). This app is unnecesary, because a SMS did this job usually, but the app is good for O2. Did you get the permission request? O2 asks for more than your mom does. Take a look at the rights, they wanted to have on my mobile device. With CyanogenMod 7 I could wrest permissions from this app.
Check the screenshots...

hi,
is there an app for connecting to a proxy (mine is http) and to use this proxy setting for all apps (including maps, market, talk, skype..... etc)?
the default proxy setting only enable browsing but usually it's not enought...
i've tried proxydroid from the market, it is supposed to have a lot of interesting features (and is free) but when it is enabled my apps don't use the proxy for connecting (even the browser doesnt), but skype does!!
anyone tried it or has any other app to suggest?
thanks
bye
Alessandro
I use ASProxy. It's available through the Market and does a great job on my HTTP proxy using AD Authentication.
Does this look like the apps or questions forum???

with the standard build-in proxy only the browser works, but with asproxy NOTHING works any longer!!
it seems that the galaxy tab has no iptables support
btw: asproxy doesnt support the refund even after few minutes
any other suggestion?
thanks

Try this...
With stock rom 2.3.3 go to
Settings --> WiFi-settings
Menu button --> Advanced
Set proxy and Port.
I don't know if this works with a 2.2 rom or if this is only for the browser.

the stock proxy feature is just for browser both in 2.2 and 2.3
in the meantime i asked the asproxy developer a few help, we tried several configurations and even a beta version of asproxy but at the very end it didn't work (at least on my network).
btw: after we realized that it didn't work, the developer issued a refund for me.
bye
After several months still no news
Many new android releases...
2.3 until 2.3.7 : no proxy support
4.0.3: no proxy support
Now I think it will never come!

So, the CM10.1 flash is running perfectly! I like to give a big thanks to all those who helped. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
However, before the flash I was able to get 3G running a Straight Talk SIM card. At the moment, the best I can do is Edge. Straight Talk offers the following settings, which are the same as I had in 2.3.5:
Name : Straight Talk
APN : att.mvno
Proxy : Left Blank
Port : Left Blank
User name : Left Blank
Password : Left Blank
Server : Left Blank
MMSC : http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy : proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
MMS port : 80
MCC : 310
MNC : 410
Authentication type : Left Blank
APN type : default,supl,mms
So why no 3G? Even when I flashed back to stock, it instantly gave me 3G. Any ideas?
Courtney
Looks like a lot of people have checked out this post, but no one has answered. Well, I figured it out and thought I'd share so everyone knows:
Firstly, I had to make sure the the APNs were right. I double checked that with Straight Talk, which they were correct. Next, I went to phone and typed in *#*#4636#*#* to access the advanced phone setup options. I then switched it from "unknown" to "LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)." This kicked it into HSDPA, which is better than 3G, so I'm more than thrilled at my new setup! I never got H mode in 2.3.5. It's like having a new phone!
Thanks again to everyone who helped me out!
Courtney
I think a lot of people, myself included, browse these forums in order to gain more knowledge about our devices and android in general. Not everyone, myself included, have the experience and/or knowledge necessary to help other users solve their issues. That being said, thank you for posting your results so that other users may learn from your experience. Glad you got it figured out. Edge is a slow beast! I know. It's all that's available in my area running a T-Mobile sim in my cappy.

Nice work, Courtney.
Thanks for sharing your progress.
By the way, there settings in CM10.1 settings menus that let you control the hsupa, hsdpa, 2G options.
Settings, Data, more is where you can toggle 2G only to save battery.
Settings, advanced settings is where you will find the radio mode settings.
