How Excellent I-mate Support People are!!! Real Story. - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

As I-mate PDA2 users know, there is a problem of beaming files to Nokia Phones without pairing. In opposite with other bluetooth devices, Nokia Phones ask the receiver a passkey to accept a file from PDA2 PPC even if the phone does not require authentication. Although the machine can accept files from Nokia Phones, Nokia Phones do not accept from PDA2. The strange thing that old I-mate Phone Edition, which is XDAII, can beam files to nokia phones without problems.
I approached I-mate Support people with this problem and got shock how poor they were. I got several conflicting and unrealistic answers. I am sure they have not used PPCs in their entire life. After several e-mails, they got stuck and never responded to me about this problem..... Several e-mails were sent to them but they do not reply to me.
Therefore, I sold my PDA2 to someone who does not know how excellent I-mate Support people are!!!!!
I am leaving you with the below e-mails to know if I am right. I got responses from 6 i-mate specialist & engineers!!!!!Start reading from below to get the sequence of emails.

Mr. xxx
Your answer implies that I-mate PDA2 bluetooth software has equipped with additional security features comparing with I-mate Phone Edition. Fine, now the question is, if this is the case, why do I need to do pairing with unauthenticated Nokia Phones to send files through bluetooth while it does not require pairing with other unauthenticated bluetooth devices such as Pocket PC’s or Laptop Computers? If what you have said below is true, then beaming files requires pairing with all devices and not only with Nokia Phones. I can beam files to unauthenticated Pocket PC, my Laptob, and my Desktop Computer without pairing. If you are going to say Nokia Phones do not accept files from other than Nokia Phones, then I am telling you that I-mate Jas Jar, K-jam, my laptop, and my desktop computer can beam files to unauthenticated Nokia Phones without pairing!!! In addition, my PDA (I-mate PDA2) can receive files from Nokia Phones without pairing, if I set my PDA bluetooth manager to accept files without authentication. So, do the additional security features work only when I beam files to Nokia?!! Maybe this is true because Nokia phones are dangerous and contain viruses so I can not send to them but I can receive!!!
At the end, I-mate Technical Support members are circulating around the problem without attacking it. Onetime you told me hard-rest, another time they say no, hard-rest will not work, do re-flash, someone else say no, hard-rest and reflash will not solve the problem, then who is going to answer me??!! I am sure no one of you did try this to confirm if I am right. SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, I want through review of my case and not short answers. If the answer will take sometime, no problem with me but I don’t want unrealistic answers. If the reviewer of the e-mail is not capable for through answer, please give it to someone know better. I am trying to fix this problem. If the problem does not have a fix, I want you I-mate Support work out with Broadcomm, for example, to find a solution for this problem. If there is any upcoming update/upgrade for PDA2, you should resolve it in the upcoming ROM/Ext ROM.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for the query! Please note that due to increasing number of issues (virus attack via Bluetooth/SMS etc.) related to security of the Operating System, different Bluetooth technology has been implemented in Windows Mobile 2003 SE (PDA2). This is done so that you can authenticate the user and/or the sending device and thus protect your device.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,

Hi,
Then, why can I-mate Phone Edition (first Pocket PC product) beam files to unauthenticated Nokia Phones while I-mate PDA2 can not do so??? Please see my first e-mail below.
I am suggesting trying that. Bring one I-mate Phone Edition Pocket PC and I-mate PDA2 and try to beam files to a Nokia Phone without pairing. We will find that you can send files to the Nokia Phone using I-mate Phone Edition Pocket PC but you won’t be able to do so with I-mate PDA2.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for your email of April 23, 2006 and please accept our aplogies for any inconveience or misunderstanding cased earlier.Regarding on why you performed hard-rest and reflashing the Rom operating system, I would like to inform you that this was suggested to by our representatives as we understanded from previous email that you where unable to send files to your other PDA Phone Edition without authentication which you can do.
Regarding PDA2 can send to other Pocket PC or to laptop but does not work with unauthenticated Nokia Phones, I would like to inform you that PDA2, i-mate Phone Edition and Laptop are all Microsoft Windows operating system platform. Hence, no need for an authentication for sending files via Bluetooth between them. However, Nokia phones are Mobile devices and run on different platforms and authentication will be needed for sending and receiving.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,

Hi,
As I stated below in my e-mail, I used to have I-mate Phone Edition and this problem did not exist. I used to beam files to unauthenticated bluetooth devices without pairing. If the bluetooth device requires authentication, then I agree with you beaming files will not a work unless with pairing. Now, PDA2 can beam files to unauthenticated bluetooth devices except Nokia Phones. For example, it works from PDA2 to another Pocket PC or to my laptop but does not work with unauthenticated Nokia Phones. I hope you understand my problem.
First, you are telling me this can not be done with PDA2. Simple question, why? Why does it work with I-mate Phone Edition and does not work with PDA2?!!
Second, since hard-rest and reflashing do not resolve this problem, why did your colleges instruct me to do so?
At the end, I want to solve this problem. I wonder who I should consult if I-mate support group won’t resolve this problem.

Dear customer,
Thank you for writing again. Please note that this not a known issue with PDA2. The device will always ask for a passkey each time you try to send a file to a new (unpaired) device. Hard resetting the device or even re-flashing the device will not fix this.
For any other queries/clarifications, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your e-mail. Regarding your query we suggest you to re-flash your device ROM as there might be some system files are missing and you have to re-load the Operating system all over again to your device which will re-install all the system files again.
To re-flash your device, you first need to register with the www.clubimate.com website, and then navigate to the Club Support > Updates/Downloads > Device Support (PDA2) > Operating System for PDA2 and download the ROM upgrade onto your desktop/laptop. After having done so, please remove SD card or dummy card, connect your device to the desktop/laptop via the USB cable and connect them through the Active sync program. After a partnership is selected, please run the upgrade from your desktop and it will be applied onto the device, which shall take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
To back up data you can do it by synchronizing your device with the desktop/laptop via the USB cradle and creating Standard Partnership when asked for and backup your Contacts, Calendar, Inbox, etc… to your pc.
To save the Pictures, Ringtones, Video and your personal files, once you are connected to the Microsoft ActiveSync, click on Explore button and copy the files to the desktop computer. To restore them, paste them to your device’s folder again.
For further queries do not hesitate to contact us, we'll be glad to assist you.

Dear sul231,
Thank you for your E-mail. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. Due to bandwidth issues, the online sessions with our support representatives get dropped in times of heavy traffic. This issue will be soon resolved. Meanwhile we recommend you to performing a hard reset on your device to bring back factory default settings. Please note that a hard reset will clear all your User data and contacts, your connection settings to your operator, the program pack that came with your device and any program you have installed yourself. You must back up all your data before performing this operation, including manually copying out ring tones, pictures, etc. you may have on your device. A hard reset is a permanent erase, and data cannot be recovered after this.
Please do not backup “All Data” in xBackup or “Backup/Restore” in Microsoft ActiveSync as this would cause the errors while restoring. To save your calendar and contact entries, you can do it in three ways. You can either do it by synchronizing your device with the desktop/laptop via the USB cable and selecting standard partnership when asked for or, by going to Start > Settings > System > Permanent Save > selecting the items you want to permanently backup to your device, simply by checking them. The third way is by navigating to Start > Programs > xBackup > and selecting contacts and appointments only and either saving to your main memory or to your storage card.
To save the Pictures, Ringtones, Video and your personal files, once you are connected to the Microsoft ActiveSync, click at Explore and copy the files to your desktop computer. To restore them, paste them to your device’s folder. Or, copy them to your Storage Card.
To perform a Hard Reset (Full reset), press and hold the Power button, and then use your stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time, as shown above.
For further queries do not hesitate to contact us; we'll be glad to assist you.
Regards,

Subject: Bluetooth in PDA2
Hi,
I am sending this e-mail after several efforts to get an online assistance. Anyway, I do have a problem with my PDA2 which is related to the Broadcom Bluetooth. I used to have PDA Phone Edition and could beam files to any other Bluetooth devices such as computers and Nokia Phones without problems. With PDA2, I can not send any file to Nokia Phones unless I do pairing with the targeted phone. Although I tried this feature with my wife mobile many times where I set it up to accept without authentication, the problem is not resolved. I did many setting changes on the Bluetooth Manager in my PDA and the problem still exist. Is there any fix for this problem?
Regards,
Sul231

UP

As for the knowledge level of I-mate tech support persons , I've no comment. The problem sure is in your phone software, more specific the driver and BT management software. I'm also have the same issue with my Asus A620+ CF Bluetooth card and my Motorola MPX220, even mine is worse as I cant send file even after pairing the devices. I suggest that you flash your phone with other brand's rom and see if this work out. Been in several forum and never see that prob with O2 XDA2i, worth trying.
Also new brand like I-mate dont have many tech expert is understandable, you must see complaints about some Big-Old-Arrogance company like Asus, MSI.

Bluetooth patch from club-imate! finally is here! AGAIN!!!!!

As some of you may have found out i-mate launched its FINAL bluetooth patch yesterday only to withdraw it this morning.
Well this afternoon (my time GMT+3) they launched it again. Knowing that quite a few of you folks are NOT members of clubimate and would like to get the patch, I've downloaded them (as there are five flavors of them depending on your which ROM you are using; WWE, FRA, PTB, ITA and SPA)
Device Support - Bluetooth Patch # 2 for i-mate™ PDA2k
i-mate™ is aware of the problems being experienced with the i-mate™ PDA2k Bluetooth. This is the second patch which will improve the bonding between the i-mate™ PDA2k and other devices. With this patch the bonding between the i-mate™ PDA2k and Bluetooth headsets will be more robust, after the PDA2k has entered Power Save (Sleep) Mode. Customers have previously observed that:
- when the i-mate™ PDA2k enters Sleep Mode for a period of time, any in-coming voice call alert is not relayed via the Bluetooth link to the Bluetooth headset, so no audible alert is heard.
- when the i-mate™ PDA2k is bonded to a Bluetooth headset and has entered Sleep Mode, the device will periodically wake-up while in an idle state, without prompting by the customer, leading to unnecessary power drain of the battery.
The patch does not correct the beaming problem between devices using the Brodcomm Bluetooth stack, like the i-mate™ PDA2k, and devices using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack. We are still working on a resolution to this issue. Some Jabra BT250 headsets will also still have audio quality issues and we recommend contacting Jabra for a solution.
The correct patch to install on your device can be determined by tapping Start > Settings > System > Device Information and checking the ROM version suffix, eg x.yy.zzz WWE.
Click here to select the patch appropriate for English devices and Arabic devices and download "OEM_WWE_122_008.sa.CAB" this file is approximately 3.8 Mb in size. Once the cab file installs please soft reset the device to complete the installation.
Click here to select the patch appropriate for the ITA language on your device and download "OEM_ITA_122_011.sa.CAB" this file is approximately 4.0 Mb in size. Once the cab file installs please soft reset the device to complete the installation.
Click here to select the patch appropriate for the PTB language on your device and download "OEM_PTB_122_014.sa.CAB" this file is approximately 4.0 Mb in size. Once the cab file installs please soft reset the device to complete the installation.
Click here to select the patch appropriate for the ESN language on your device and download "OEM_SPA_122_012.sa.CAB" this file is approximately 4.0 Mb in size. Once the cab file installs please soft reset the device to complete the installation.
Click here to select the patch appropriate for the FRE language on your device and download "OEM_FRA_122_009.sa.CAB" this file is approximately 4.0 Mb in size. Once the cab file installs please soft reset the device to complete the installation.

Bluetooth version on the PDA2K
hey
downloaded the lastest version of the bluetooth patch from i-mate guess what.
The first update they did they upgraded the stac from build 2500 to buid 3500.
Now with the new version they have gone back to version build 3000.
Now he is the problem bluetooth driver still insufficient drivers with both of the stacks.
With stack 3500 when I connect to my Parrot 3300 bluetooth in the car it works fine I even get the network signal saying ok.
Now when I upgraded to the new vesrion which is build 3000 when I connect to the Parrot bluetooth car kit the network signal is not shown anymore so what the hell is I-mate do can they just release the new version or not.
My brother has a Qtek 9090 his upgraded to the new rom he get the license has expired on the Italian version what a joke.
Hows fault is this CD or Broadcom the makers of the bluetooth drivers.
I would like to known so I can pester the right people.
Thanks

Just after the setup, I had exactly the issues on my QTEK9090. Go in the parameters -> Today and change the theme. After this, you shouldn't have any more screen problem. After a short test, it seems the Bluetooth problems with my Jabra 200 fixed! Good luck

MDA III Warning
Just installed the Bluetooth patch on my MDA III and was presented with a completely black screen after Soft Reset. The only way around this was to Hard Reset. Yet to test the performance of the patch, but thought I would pass on the warning.
Had same problem on MDAII (black screen after reset - hard reset to cure) so am using previous patch

Could someone upload these patches to our xda-developers ftp server under the blueangel directory. There should be a bluetooth patches directory somewhere there......
Thanks
All you should need to do is remove it from the cradle, then put it back in the cradle and restart the upgrade again. It should start to run again.
If that doesn't work, there are a couple of other things you can try.

Imate pda2k WM 05 bluetooth HELP PLEASE

Hi, this is my first time posting here. I recently got my Imate pda2k after suffering through hp 6315. Anyways the first thing I did was upgrade the OS to windows mobile 2005. I installed all the patches and everything (assuming the stuff on wikipedia is all up to date). I have been very happy with the imate and LOVE wm 05.
Now to my problem, I haven't tried wifi yet but bluetooth hasn't been working for me At all. I've heard that people have had problems with it dropping after going into standby and what not, but my problem is that I can't even use it at all. I'm using the Tekkeon Eztalker mini bluetooth, and it worked well with the hp 6315. Anyways the device recognizes and finds the bluetooth earpiece but I haven't been able to use it at all. It's like the device recognizes it but it doesn't set it. Please help me out, maybe its something basic that I'm not doing. Tell me step by step how to set up the bluetooth just in case. I'm out of ideas.
Thank you.
oh and a side note : at this point how would you rate WM 2005 in comparison to the latest patches by imate? Which do you guys prefer?
thank you

2i and BT problems

Ok, I have now run out of ideas so am looking for some advice/help. I had TT3 and a Jabra BT250 working quite happily together. Then I had to reload the TT3, now it will not pair with Jabra headset (it see's it, but will not pair), I have ugraded to the lattest rom, and have even tried a new XDA2i (sent other one back as faulty!!), still same fault. Has anyone else had this problem or have I just got a corrupt copy of TT3??
Just received this email - so new ROM has problems!!!!
Thank you for your email,
As regards our contact number, this 0906 number is no longer in use, and we are awaiting this to be removed from the website, apologies for this.
As regards your headset and the new ROM, we are currently aware that the new ROM has some Bluetooth issues, whereby some headsets were working on the previous ROM but not working very well with the new ROM of 1.11.169. We are currently working on getting this ROM upgrade removed and replaced by the 1.11.162 ROM which works fine. We apologise for the delay this is taking, and as regards changing your device to the lower ROM, until we get our website updated, you should be able to find this earlier ROM on websites such as XDA-Developer Forum or the like.
Finally, yesterday we had some major email problems, whereby some emails were not going through to the company, this has now been rectified as of this morning, hence you did not get an immediate response, this matter was outside of our control. We do try to respond to emails within our usual 24 hour SLA.

Orange SPV M2000 - making it work properly

Greetings xda-developers,
I hope you can help me make my SPV work as intended.
Apologies if these questions have been answered elsewhere. If so, please ignore my rant and direct me to the necessary links/sloutions.
My SPV exhibits a number of problems you are all probably already aware of.
I've spent countless (free) minutes to Orange's support line and complained to them in writing but they refuse to support me by email. They insist I continue to call 150 where an operative reads the instructions for a DIFFERENT HANDSET :-( Pointed questioning usually results in the operative admitting they've never seen the SPV M2000 and have no idea what I'm talking about. Meanwhile I pay Orange for the rest of my calls which SHOULD'VE BE FREE ANYWAY! OK rant over...
Firstly I should give you my details. GetDeviceData returns
PH20B 0 B WWE E ORANG001 1.40.00 0 0 1.40.179 1.06.02 06.02
My problems are:
1. Unidirectional voice problem after using bluetooth. I've applied the documented fix at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_FAQ_Unidirectional
without success. Did I do something wrong?
2. WIFI - after disconnecting from any wifi network (encrypted or open) the handset needs a soft reset before it will connect to any wifi network again.
3. Screen "skew" - touch sensitive screen needs realigned several times per day. This is particularly annoying when you can't even enter the PIN to get into the sodding thing!
4. Messaging - tapping on messaging highlights it but never does anything. What has happened to all my texts, emails and MMSes?? Is Angelina Jolie texting me for a raunchy evening of passion? I'll never know cos messaging disnae work.
5. Windows Media Player. I upgraded to the latest mobile version and now it doesn't play ANY media files. WMV, MP3 - not recognised! Factory reset - and it works again, but all my data, mods and personalisations have gone! Boo hoo.
6. Voicemail - the voicemail icon I used to get has completely disappeared. Even if there's a voicemail waiting I don't have an icon there to tell me. Result - more free minutes spent "just checking" to see if I have messages. Is this a conspiracy?
7. Camera. My camera never worked - until downloading and installing Camera2K5_v1 from your site. Not that I use it, but it would be nice, when Angelina comes over.
Thanks for reading this far. I appreciate your patience. I'm sick fed up factory resetting this device and having to start from scratch.
Q. Should I upgrade to the latest ROM? 1.42? Radio ver? How do I do this? Will a German T-mobile version work on my UK Orange SPV? Or will I have to learn German?
Q. I can't find my bluetooth version. How do I do this? Would upgrading to the latest one solve my unidirectional voice/BT problem?
Q. Should I unlock the handset and just buy a pay-as-you-go SIM? From Vodafone perhaps (better coverage in Scotland) If so, how?
Q. Should I can this device and buy a proper phone and an iPAQ instead? Two devices into one pocket doesn't go.
The SPV seems like a really smart piece of kit (if a little clunky) but it just doesn't do what it says on the tin. Not from Orange anyway.
Any help or advice you can offer will be gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.
By the Sounds of it you have a Faulty phone,
Upgrading wont help in my opinion.
hey guttercat,
i flashed to O2 IIs UK version. it work fine expect for the camera. no align problem, window media reads supported format. im not sure about u, but it at least solve some of my problem.

sync'in issues

so i've had a look around and not been able to come up with anything
im sure this is a dumb question and has a quick answer but.......
when ever i plug my tytn into my computer and sync, the time displayed on my phone goes back 1 hour... im currently on GMT +9 (perth Western australia) and on DLS. my computer shows the correct time, so im not sure whats going on....
annoying having alarms go off an hour early if i forget to revert back <3 sleep
thanks in advance
scott
Are you using ActiveSync or Mobile Device Centre? If you have mobile Device Centre, ensure you are using the latest version (6.1). As, believe it or not, this isn't automatically updated.
Cheers
Scott
im using microsoft active sync 4.5.0
It's a setting that it copies the time from the server. (the pc what is connected)
Daylight Savings Update
I'm guessing that your phone hasnt had the Daylight Savings patch installed to reflect the recent changes for Daylight Savings in WA & other countries. I actually found the patch by accident when I browsed to the Windows Mobile website on my TyTN II although havent installed it as I am not affected by the changes here in Sydney.
I have attached the WM6 patch for PPC touchscreen devices to this post however if you need the WM5 or WM2003 patch for other PPC's or Smartphones you will need to browse to ttp://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/mobile/default.aspx on either your PC or device and follow the steps to download the patch. Note that the page is designed for browsing from the device so it will display in a narrow band at the left of the page if viewed from a PC.
Cheers,
Chris
downloaded and installed, hopefully it'll solve all hiccups
many many many thanks for your help and efforts
