Broadcast Channels - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Under phone settings more, there is the option for enabling Broadcast Channels. Can someone tell me what this is?

They are channels that broadcast info to your phone as messages. I had a list of these years ago, but lost it. You put a channel number in the settings (eg. 21 or 43 etc), and when info is available on that channel it will show up. The channels consisted of some of these as far as I can remember: phone area code, cell info, major roads, doctors, local taxis.
Years ago when travelling in South Africa, my old Nokia was setup to receive these, and it worked. You must remember this was when a Nokia 6110 was cutting edge technology

Channel 50 is a fairly common one, it provides area information.
However, it should be noted that it will depend on which provider you're with, and where you are, whether this works at all. For example, in The Netherlands, only Vodafone really offers cell broadcast information at all - one of the other large providers, KPN, stopped using it altogether in 2002.
It's funny, too - as the whole technology basically offered location-based push information. In some countries you can get the weather forecast for the region you're in, or if you're travelling you can get the location of the nearest tourism office, etc.
One snag for the providers: they can't charge you for it. And this is likely why it's not very popular... why provide you with these services for free, when they can make you log into their WAP/portal page for $1,00 startup + $1,00/MB instead?

stingy cell companies. if anyone finds out channels please post as i will do the same.

Found this by google, but still don't know how to use it.

Any personal GPS tracking programs to view on on the internet?

Hello, since most of us have a new found GPS, I would like to use those programs that allows you people to go to a certain website to see where you are, and find friends that are close by, etc. This is specially useful to use it with family and friends or kids, when we want to know where are they located.
so far I have found out 2 programs, (FREE)
-Mologogo. http://www.mologogo.com/
-Livecontacts. http://www.livecontacts.com/
I was wondering if anybody found any others besides of these programs, because both seems to be very buggy and/or not so accurate. (mologogo showed like I was somewhere in the Atlantic ocean close to Nigeria!!!!)
Anybody had successful results with these?. Are there any other programs that anybody uses, free or paid?
Hi.
Next version of commmgrpro will include the posibility to send to CMP server Cell ID, operator and GPS coordenates (if available). In this way, with some weeks/months, the server will host a map of Cells (and operator) and GPS position in the world. So when the map is big then It wont be necessary to connect the gps. It will be enought to turn on the device. Then It will send the current Cell/Lac to the server and the server will convert it to geographical position. Then I will add buddy support, etc, etc and of course, posibility to see it using a web browser and google maps.

CommMgrPro. Looking for GSM-GPS mappers

HI.
CommMgrPro is and one year old Hermes project. CommMgrPro is:
1) Automatic profile tool based on Location (GSM cell) and schedules.
2) Battery and Current draw monitory tool.
3) Communication manager.
4) -> It allow to upload cell changes to the server and if you have GPS It can take the coordenates so you can track your movements on the server using Google Maps. Apart of this we are creating automatically a big database matching CELL - OPERATOR - GPS coords.
So.....We are giving for free licenses to people interested on the project and interested on increasing the database. Simply install the program, use it to upload cells and if you ve uploaded cells you will get a free license. More info in www.commmgrpro.com
Thanks
It is interesting. However, I am concern about the privacy. Does the program upload ANYTHING else other than the Cells information?
How do you protect the information which user sends to your server? Can we delete the data completely off from your server?
EDIT:
I just checked your website and seems you allow user to login and check the cell info. However, the login and registration pages are not using SSL.
yes, thats truth.
User can choose which fields to be uploaded to the server (8 possible fields). But you can change the URL to test by yourself the data. At least users should upload Location (Cell/Lac), Phone operator, GPS coords and (owner_name and/or Device ID to identify the user who uploaded the data. Well, you can disable owner name and Device ID (imei) but we wont know who is upload that data). There are two main tables.
1) Cell-operator-gps. Thats the interesting table for CMP. No user data.
2) Location changes. Interesting for user to track movements on google maps. Data's rows are deleted each 72 hours but can be removed more frequently if users wants.
NO Https. Yes, we thought data was critial but We will put an special HTTPS port...

btw i have a question for you: is it possible to upload before a list of cells with also other informations included (like address, owner, power, or other) to display on screen once the bts is locked?
thanks
ciao

Well, currently It lets you upload 8 fields but I can more info if needed. This project is alive and I post new releases every two or three weeks.....

licenses
Are licenses still be given out for free? I already have a paid licence for bandswitch.
How does this compete with Navizon?
competition
Here's the differences. navizon uses a trial period program that supposedly gives you cash back for usage but the kicker is when the trial expires. CommMgrPro usage gets you a free license to the program itself since the database needs to be updated which is similar to navizon. What you're getting out of it is the difference.

WX plugin shows time in current temp location

AT&T Tilt/Dutty's WM v6.1 (build 19199)/Polaris 1.58.25.14
The home wx plugin works perfectly for cities in the db. But the closest city is ~300 miles away. When I add my city params via AdvancedConfig (or directly in the registry), the plugin connects and returns the correct city and forecast from AccuWeather. However, the time is displayed where the current temperature should be, i.e. the time the data were accessed. When I change the city back to one in the db, the plugin display maps as it should again, i.e. shows the current temp.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
FYI, these are the params in question:
city in the db: NAM|US|PA|PITTSBURGH
city I added: NAM|US|PA|STATE COLLEGE

wish list

hi all,
As I said in another thread, I'm happy with my Diamond although there some aspects that could be fixed in an hypothetical ROM release. (I don't know if HTC tech people visit this forum...)
I've been playing with the Diamond for the past 6 days (with a couple of hard resets in between) so, for now, here goes my wishlist for some improvements:
GENERAL
- speed improvements in the TF3D use, instead of us having to patch it up with registry tweaks (for crying out loud, this is a 528MHz processor!)
TODAY TAB
- choose the number of appoinments to be displayed
- option to show appointments for the next xx days
WEATHER TAB
- alphabetical index to choose country and city, instead of having to scroll it all the way down
- ability to choose other cities besides the ones listed
- ability to reorde/sort the chosen cities
- the weather program should use the '5 day' data to display if no updates are made. also the sun/moon should be displayed according to the local time, not the time the last update was made
- show local time for the chosen cities
that's it (for now). feel free to add your own wishlistB
regards,

OnCourse Navigator 8 GPS (OCN 8, aka US version of iGO)

Some feedback for those of you looking at OCN8 (Turn by Turn Navi):
Basically, it is a US flavor of IGO 8 (Identical UI). It seems that some other company is representing the product in the USA. http://www.oncoursenavigator.com/
Likes:
-The company supports their product in the US. No offense intended, but TTN7 (which I like), does not care for us over here.
-Nice interface. I actually like it more than TTN7.
-Better address book integration
-Cool 3D maps
-Online POI lookup through Google (marketing claim, untested)
-Turn by Turn Voice Navi supported and working on Kaiser (PITA to setup, but works)
Dislikes:
-OCN seems to be somewhat of a redheaded stepchild of another company. It does not feel like an OEM, more like a US Reseller for IGO. The software is great though.
-As of today, map updates are not supported. They claim they are, but when you go to their update site(naviextras.com) you are told they are not currently supported. ETA: Mid January.
-Traffic Updates are only supported via radio (FM? XM?), GSM updates are not supported.
-You are locked to the MicroSD it comes on. Lame.
-2x the launch time of TTN7
That is all for now. I'm going to evaluate it for a few days...
