Hi,
I searched around some here, but I'm stuck now... I have a Vodafone ROM Update where I want to extract some information/file from. So far I have managed to split it somehow with typhoonnbfdecode.pl, so I have some files that contain the different parts, as .nb files.
Where would I go from here, to get deeper into the image? Inside those files must be the cabs and stuff I think, how can I access them?
Lars
I'm not an expert on editing ROMs, but I also wanted to get the individual files out of a ROM upgrade, and this method worked for me.
I think you're looking for the utilities which were discussed and posted in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34171
I used typhoonnbfdecode_v5 (only the v5 worked for me, not the other versions) then tools from the WM5 ROM Tools. The included tools.txt explains what you need to know, but basically prepare_imgfs.exe converts the nk.nb into imgfs_raw_data.bin, then viewimgfs.exe will dump the imgfs_raw_data.bin into the individual files from the ROM.
maybe I'm doing something wrong here...
typhoonnbfdecode.pl -x nk.nbf
!!! storedcrc=8f39f50f calculatedcrc=9cdb95a0
extracted OS_0
extracted Extension ROM_0
extracted GSM_0
extracted SPL_1
extracted IPL_1
extracted SPL_2
extracted IPL_2
extracted HTC Logo_0
extracted Splash Screen_0
prepare_imgfs.exe 9b000000-Extension.nb
Searching for IMGFS start... Not found!
So typhoonnbfdecode extracts several files from the .nbf file, but prepare_imgfs can't read it...
That's the same problem I was having until I found the typhoonnbfdecode_v5.exe. With the other typhoonnbfdecode versions, it looked like it was extracting the *.nb files, but they seemed to be corrupt.
I don't have the perl file that it was built from, but I found the compiled somewhere through a google search (can't remember if it was on the XDA forums or not). You can download it here http://www.exorzero.com/temp/typhoonnbfdecode_v5.exe
hm, funny... same result with this one...

Help!
I've followed the instructions on the wiki about dumping a ROM, which I've done and it worked fine.
Then i started to follow everything to rebuild the ROM, which worked until I got to the buildimgfs.exe stage, and all I get is an error message that it cant find the compression dll, even though I know the dll is in the directory with it.
Any help much appreciated as I'm trying to rebuild a Orange UK M700 rom
Cheers
use these batch files to dump/rebuild the rom&hive, nbhtool to create the Signed_RUU.nbh
Make Sure You Have A Valid Imgfs_raw_data.bin In The Folder You Are Issueing The Command From, That Stopped My buildimgfs.exe Working.
Cheers
still not working...
message about missing compression dll still happens, even though viewimgfs works fine.
@apoc - not entirely sure which bat files to run, the dump ones didnt seem to do anything?

command prompt:
NBDump.bat OS.nb - to dump
NBBuild.bat OS.nb - to rebuild
HVDump.bat user | HVDump.bat default - to dump the user.hv or default.hv,
The HV bat files must be on the same dir as the .hv files.
there are a bunch of hidden files, and I've mistankenly hidden OSChecker.exe, I think it's not exactly necessary to check the created .nb files, but the file is there and you can use it.
@APOC, another bit of help if you dont mind?
I've run the NBBuild.bat and it produced a file but someones tested it and says it doesnt work so I had a look at the .bat and some of the steps seem to pull information from an exisiting NBH file? I downloaded a file as part of the wiki step by step to dump and rebuild a file so the NBH I have is nothing to do with the one I'm trying to rebuild ... is that a problem?
As before I've got as far as running viewimgfs to create the dump directory but buildimgfs refuses to work still!

I've jsut read tadzio's thread about the enhanced imgfs tools so I'm going to try that again and see what I can do
hi all
it's already few days (and nights) that I'm looking for how to dump my french rom and I managed to dump the raw parts O 1 2 3 following all the tutorials with the tricky memory adresses but I cannot manage to rebuild it then
I extract it throught the kitchen after havin put the parts and the ruu signed in the baseRom folder but when i try to cook it with the builOS program
I indicate the ROM folder but there is always the file OS.nb missing
I have only a folder XIP with a file called boot.rgu inside the ROM folder
I had a look in the whole kovskykitchen folder, there is no OS.nb, just one called OO_SPL.nb created after extraction in the base ROM folder.
did I miss a trick ? sorry if so but I didn't find any help in the threads...
thanks guys

Have you tried copying 00_spl.nb to OS_SPL.nb and then re-building ?
sorry the file needed is called OS.nb and not OS_SPL.nb
yes I did it, rename the file 00_SPL.nb by OS.nb and put it the ROM folder,
then I indicated it into the buildOS soft package tool, it looks like it is workin fine and finish sayin work successful then I close it,
the dos window takes the relay but displays an error 'input file OS.nb.payload has no valid boot sector aborting...'
that's rude right ;°) ?

no, this still doesnt fix the Could not find the file 'C:\KovskyKitchen\ROM\ON.NB'
issue??
Hello fellow HTC-ers!
I've made a dump of my Blackstone (using pdocread -l), all seems fine. Got 4 .raw files. Now, Dr. Jay in his movie says to "get" a .nbh file. From where?? I'm confused. Read several postings about IMGFS, but those didn't help me to get to the next step.
To be precise : I want to have a flashable backup of my original (NLD : Original NLD ROM - 1.14.404.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14) ROM before I install HSPL and start cooking my own. Preferably, I want to create this original flashable ROM myself, just to get familiar with the tools and the process.
Could anyone tell me where to go from here? (4 .raw files)
Thanks.
Grt., K.
ps. when I search this forum for ".nb" or "nbh" I get no hits.. Does the searchkey have to consist of a minimum number of characters?

Please read and use this very usefull tool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438456
You need to download an official stock rom. Copy your part1 and part2 raw files and the RUU_signed.nbh (from the downloaded and extracted stock rom) into the baserom folder. You need to launch the BlackStoneKitchen.cmd from the rom kitchen folder and follow the on-screen instuctions: extract the content (push e then b), then re-cook it (push c then a).
thanks, tsummer.. I've downloaded the kitchen and the original stock ROM's a few weeks ago. The stock package consisted of 4 .rar files, extracting to one .exe file. No .nbh! So, where should I get it from? If I start the .exe, an application pops up, wanting to flash my device.. The thread you posted does not shed any light on where to obtain or how to extract the right .nbh file..
I really read in to this stuff, but somehow the whole "getting the .nbh-file" remains foggy to me. Please advice.
/edit : I've got a "RUU_Signed.nbh" from a zip called "Restore_Stock_SPL_114_2.zip". Is that the right one? It's 513 KB (526.193 bytes) big. Question remains : How should I extract the existing .nbh from my running ROM / Device?
Found it!
To get the .NBH file from a Stock ROM .exe file, right click the .EXE and select "Extract Files..." from your rar-quickmenu!
Wow.. took me "only" 8 hours to figure this one out...
*shame* dr.Jay does explain it in his movie "rebuilding".. ouch.

Open the exe with winrar and you will see the RUU_signed.nbh (this is the correct nbh). Copy this nbh into the baserom folder and use the BlackstoneKitchen.cmd.

The SPL in an another issue.
I was just wondering if I wanted to re-cook a rom such as Dutty's or L26 to add one extra package is that the same procedure as above assuming I dump their rom from my device?
HI,
I am trying to get an apk from a KDZ file. I can open up the KDZ but then there are many other files inside. I guess the apks are in one of these other files. Does anyone know how to get the apk from within .img files etc?
Thanks

How you extracted KDZ?
Why don't you get it from the sapps module zip on void's rom?
I need a particular app from the Orange UK ROM - the app is called Signal Boost and it is for UMA calling.
Is that app in the ROM you mention?
What you need is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6303911&postcount=827
It allows you to decompress system.mbn (where all the files are).
Compile it under linux, or use cygwin.
Remember that official ROMs are odexed. If you want to deodex apks, you can use dsixda's excelent kitchen. It is used to make lots of ROMs you see around here.
For that, take a look here (you can also use it under cygwin):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
If you understand portuguese, or use a translator, check these:

Most info was gathered from xda forums, only translated and organized to portuguese folks.
Many thanks, I will see if I can get anywhere with this.
You just need to compile unyaffsmbn (gcc unyaffsmbn.c -o unyaffsmbn).
Then copy system.mbn to unyaffsmbn folder. Then do:
./unyaffsmbn system.mbn
You'll have all files extracted in few seconds.
Then if you want to use those files in kitchen, do this:
First install kitchen, as explained in link i posted above.
Delete all symlinks in bin/ (i think there are 52)
Then you must create a zip file with this structure:
/boot.img
/system/ (here you put all the files you extracted. You should have 10 folders and 1 file)
Now just copy this zip to PATH_TO_KITCHEN/original_update/
Then run it with:
cd PATH_TO_KITCHEN
./menu
Right I have three system.mbn files named:
system.mbn_0
system.mbn_1
system.mbn_2
I have tried a few tools (under Windows) to extract them. Firstly a windows compiled version of unyaffs which falls over with : Exception: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION at eip=61100F73
I then tried another version which didn't error but also didn't do anything!
A different tool errored with "the header states that its binary is longer than the whole file" which makes me think perhaps these three files need combining into one?
I have tried combining them into one file using the copy /b command in Windows which creates a single large file but I still have the same issues trying to unpack it.
Any more ideas? Thanks
Right have now installed Cygwin and managed to extract the files using unyaffsmbn! Thanks for all your help, learnt a lot today!

How did you decompress kdz? I use LG Utils to extract to dz, then dzdecryptor to decompress dz to individual files. Then i use the tools i named to do the rest of it.
Also i can see that lg utils finds those system*, but puts them together before it ends. Maybe you used different software.
Anyway, i'm glad you managed to work it out

There is unyaffs, and unyaffsmbn. unyaffs also never worked with me.
I've read somewhere that with lg roms we must use unyaffsmbn. Don't remember were i saw it, neither why...
I used LG utils to extract the KDZ, then used DZExtract to expand the .dz file. Then I combined the system.mbn_0,1,2 files using copy /b.
I then used Cygwin and gcc to make unyaffsmbn.exe which then worked on the combined system.mbn file. Managed to get the apk I needed too.
PLease upload unyaffsmbn.exe for me please as i seriously need it.
Here you go...
Hello!
I'm trying get some information about the .wdb format, if anyone know something I really like to know about.
For example, the kdb is a crypted cab file, who have inside some other files.
Maybe a .dz and a .dll or a .dll and a .wdb, is there a "third option"?
I heard about CDMA and 3GQTC, it's how this files are "packed"? (in kdz)
I see that KP500 got a .wbd extractor, then, if we extract it, we got 5 different files *.dfat, *.fls and others...
So, what can we do with that files extracted from .wdb, what we won with this?
Can we create custom roms or something like that?
I think this concept work for all the LGE cellphones or almost everyone, right?
Thanks.

You could use [1]TrID to see if it can tell something
[1]http://mark0.net/soft-trid-e.html
Probably inside the wdb there's the files that compose the rom, like the dz which contains the recovery.img, boot.img and so on. LG seems to have changed the decompress process as the KP500 lg utils cant decompress the wdb files. Maybe with the files we could create a new kdz and flash it, just like this tutorial
http://code.google.com/p/arenoid/wiki/KDZExtractPack
It's an encrypted archive that stores the fls file and bin files in multiple parts. It seems the decrypting function is inside the dll that's extracted from the kdz.
Answering my own question.
WDB is a container format, with several pieces of zlib streams, each representing a file, but encrypted.
Like a zip file
