I was a bit curious to see what everything did in the T-Mobile Extended ROM and was poking around in the different factory CABs. I seem to have most of them figured out, but the functions of a few elude me. Anyone have any idea what they do?

You might ask summiter about this one. When the latest TMo AKU 2.3 ROM came out last week, there was some discussion about a change in the protocol used for ActiveSync. Normally ROMs default to RNDIS, but this new ROM uses Serial over USB--I think this cab adds the Accessory to switch from Serial back to RNDIS. It was hypothesized that leaving off this cab would leave the device in RNDIS preventing a lot of headaches (like having to remember to run the prog to switch to RNDIS after every soft-reboot if Serial doesn't work...), but I never saw anything more about it. Good luck!

That's what I thought as well, however the control panel to switch between the USB modes is there by default in the AKU 2.3 ROM. The CAB is also oddly small and poking around didn't seem to reveal anything interesting.
Missing files from the list
Your list in the first post doesn't mention these files:
MP_Customization_TMUK_Wizard(AKU2.x)_060420.CAB
P_UXC1_TMOUK_Jan18_Wizard.CAB
PP_TMOUK-Button2_WIZ_22102109.CAB

That is in fact the cab file that adds the USB Switch Control Panel item to AKU 2.2 Rom (in the official Cingular Release) if you don't install it then you always have RDNIS connectivity without the otption to switch to USB Serial connectivity.
AKU 2.3 this is handled on the connections page "USB to PC" by unchecking Advanced Network Functionality.

That's because this is for the US beta ROM, not the UK ROM.
Those files are from the new T-Mobile UK Ext ROM. From poking around they do:
MP_Customization_TMUK_Wizard(AKU2.x)_060420.CAB -- Adds MMS Server info
P_UXC1_TMOUK_Jan18_Wizard.CAB -- Adds T-Mo UK Categories to Start Menu
PP_TMOUK-Button2_WIZ_22102109.CAB -- Adds a favorites link to the AppButtons folder
@Gamescan
With what program you are you checking the inside of the CAB files?
For some files I can use WinCE CAB Manager (v1), but for other CAB files it doesn't work.
Do I need Visual Studio for those files or something like that?

Updated to TuMa v1.3 ... all in the quest for perfection!
Apologies for the "fast" update to the previous ROM, but there were a number of things which DID need fixing and improving, especially the filesystem bug, and I believe I've accomplished that now.
All of the bugs and issues which were mentioned in the TuMa v1.1 thread (I believe) have been addressed - except for the BlueTooth disconnect issue. However, I have news directly from mamaich, that he is looking into the BT issue, and will hopefully have a solution soon.
The BIGGEST and BEST news is that my Phone RINGS after 1 RING now!
Although for this to work it is REQUIRED that you use a WAV file for your RingTone. Converting any MP3, WMA, or whatever into a WAV is a simple exercise - but it just uses a LOT of storage space. I've made a new "LoudOldPhone.wav" file, and set it as the default ring in this ROM. Test it out first and let me know your results.
TuMa v1.3 removes the LoudOldPhone.wav, and has all the standard Ring Tones converted to WAV format appropriately, so that ALL default rings will RING the phone quickly.
NOTE: The WAV file RULE applies for all NOTIFICATION sounds as well. Ensure that you choose only WAV files for these elements, and you'll have a snappy Blue Angel!
TuMa v1.2 (Wizard Port) Features:
- Originally based on the Wizard Port by mamaich
- OS and Application extracted from Himalaya, Jasjar, Wizard, and other ROMs
- Core Applications entirely contained in the ROM - Additional CABs not required
- EXTROM is now available again! You can repartition the EXTROM as you wish
- Quantum Timing (Thread Switching) set to 25ms timeslice (performance boost)
- Filesystem Performance improved (maximized), while still retaining reliability
- Notification and Phone Ring Time Improved (MUST USE xxx.WAV FILES!!!)
- Numerous other OS Level Performance Tweaks and Improvements made
- Useful Applications added to Startup Folder (easily disabled)
- So you can easily add whatever you want to this "base" ROM
TuMa v1.3 (Wizard Port) Features:
- Fixed Voice Command Registry Bug. Now you can remap the button as desired without registry hacking.
- Converted all Standard/Default Ring Tones to be WAV files for FAST Ring Times (with maximum volume)
- Fixed the Arcsoft MMS CABs to put the media files into the correct/best folders (avoid Ringtone issues, etc.)
- Fixed the HTC Camera CABs to NOT reset the MMS Manager DLL Entries if a different MMS Manager is used in future
- Added the RamDisk version of the Camera CAB for those who want to use it (must edit your EXTROM)
- Removed the Waterfall.jpg, and Flower.jpg default images, since I ran out of space in the ROM
- Fixed a Spelling and Versioning mistake in the v1.2 ROM
- Updated the readme.txt in the TuMa v1.3 ZIP file ...
There are presently 3 optional CAB files. During installation you may simply CANCEL the installation of the CAB file, and not have the feature installed.
i.e. Users with a SX66 will NOT want to install the HTC Camera application.
* MidletManager-TuMa.cab - Installs the Java Midlet Manager
* ArcsoftMMS-TuMa.cab - Installs the Arcsoft MMS Composer (NOTE: You must create an account)
* HTC Camera-TuMa.cab - Installs the HTC Camera and updates MMS for Camera operation on device
TuMa v1.3 adds:
* HTC Camera-TuMa-RamDisk.cab - Installs the HTC Camera and updates MMS for Camera operation on "Temp Disk"
Camera users will want to CHOOSE which Camera CAB they use. You can either rename the CAB file to be the same (without the "-RamDisk") or change the "Cfg.txt" configuration file to suit your choice.
I've included FULL installation instructions, and the "BaUpgradeUt.exe" and support files into the ZIP file. Please read the "readme.txt" file for full upgrading instructions. There is a SetOperator.bat file included in the ZIP which will make setting the Operator ID a "piece of cake" now. 8)
The EXTROM files are unchanged from TuMa v1.1 for those who are upgrading to v1.2.
The EXTROM files are different for TuMa v1.3. Use the new ones for best results. 8)
FYI: For anyone providing feedback, I will be leaving for Germany (from New Zealand) on Sunday, so I'll only have until then to respond and/or make any updates/patches or corrections. Hopefully there won't be any!
Most importantly now ... Download from here:
*** Edit: Fixed download locations ... again! ***
Download Tuma v1.3 (recommended)
ftp://xda:[email protected]/TuMa 1.3/WM5 BA - TuMa v1.3 - Release.zip
ftp://xda:[email protected]_Updates/TuMa 1.3/WM5-BA-TuMa.v1.3.rar (Probably just a repackage of the above ???)
All other WM5 ROMs are also located here:

Look around!
That's all ... enjoy the ROM.

This is actually a battery meter! Check out the "Battery Meter" in "Tools", and you can configure it as you wish. It's a very low-low overhead way of having the battery status at a glance. As always, if you don't want it - simply remove the shortcut from the "Startup" folder and it's gone.

When upgrading the ROM, it is VERY STRONGLY recommended (scratch that REQUIRED!!!) that you perform a full HARD RESET of your device, and Clean the Registry, and Format the Storage (read the readme in TuMa v1.2). By not doing so you run the risk of having corrupted registry information, and you will NOT have the benefit of the changes made in this ROM.
It will then run slowly, it will have problems, and it will give random errors nobody else has. In essence, your device will be running a new ROM with old instructions ... not a good look.
So, it's still your choice (I can't hit the buttons for you) ... if you don't do it YMMV. 8)
I luv u Tuatara !
But I have question, why don't changing Splash Image??? :?:
Is it still have a color strip when u do hard/soft reset ?
How fast (percent) if u compare with ROM Wizard To BA v2 ?
Thanks
Nice release, Tuatara, can't wait to get home and try it out. WIll do the wiki page too.

Like I said in the post above ... you NEED to clean the Registry (and Format Storage to get the performance increase). If you don't do that, you're running your new ROM on old registry settings, and you end up with something which MAY or MAY NOT work. MMS for example isn't working for you ... other things probably won't as well. Sorry, but it's an excuse to BACKUP everything (not registry!), and then clean out the chaff on your device.
Think about it as if you're upgrading Windows 98 to Windows XP. I can't really think of anything more "evil" ... If you ever did this, you know that you have to pray your machine still boots afterwards.
In other news ... mamaich is HOT on the heels of a BT fix ... PLEASE DO NOT PRESSURE HIM - It will be ready, when it's ready.
Watch this space [ ].
i am having a problem setting the record button to the record function on my sx66. it is consistently the voice speed dial program. i use windows voice command anyhow so i was wondering if you can make the voice speed dial optional unless many people find it absolutely necessary
Camera is installable on "Temp Disk" !!!
For the "cool toys" department ...
mamaich asked me if the additional CAB files could be installed into the "Temp Disk" (RamDisk) instead of into storage, since re-installing those CABs if power is ever lost is trivial. Well, I tried to modify the Arcsoft MMS, and the Midlet Manager - but I was unsuccessful.
However, (comma ... pause for dramatic effect)
The Camera CAN be installed to the Temp Disk, freeing up another 1.5Mb of Storage! This is especially useful for those who don't use MMS, and couldn't care about having Java Midlets running on their device!
Now you CAN have a device with the WHOLE STORAGE SPACE available, including your (now probably miniscule like mine @ 128Kb) EXTROM !!!
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Blueangel/wm5_test/HTC Camera-TuMa-RamDisk.cab
You CAN install this CAB after uninstalling the original CAB, but you will need to soft reset your device to have the Camera detection & initialization happen properly.
Better yet, you can replace it in your EXTROM (rename the file and/or edit the config file) before doing the TuMa v1.2 upgrade. 8)
Removing Voice Dial ...

It is (or rather was) entirely optional in the ROM, but it appears that on HARD RESET, the Voice Dial software re-installs itself as the default button handler. *sigh*
This will again need to be added to the Wiki (as before KTamas), but at least it's easier for everyone to do now ...
"Record" button is fixedly mapped to Voice Dial
1). Open up "Regedit" and delete the registry entry "LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\VoiceCommand"
2). Open up "File Explorer" and delete the "SD Daemon" link from the "/Windows/Startup" Directory
3). Open up "Buttons" (in Settings), and set your "Record" button
4). Return to the "Today Screen", and use psShutXP to Soft-Reset your device.
Presto ... you now have the "Record" button mapped to ... well ... "Record". 8)
Installation Hints ...
For those of you who could possibly still have a shred of patience, I believe it's quite worthwhile to add a little bit of "waiting time" in, when installing this ROM.
When your device resets from the HARD RESET, and the "Windows Mobile" welcome screen comes up and greets you merrily ... wait a little while until the "Blue LED" (on my iMate) stops blinking on the top left (about 15-20 seconds or so).
Only then continue and configure up your device. You'll notice that the alignment cursor, pages, cut & paste selctions, etc. are all 'lightning quick'.
This is because the OS is still booting, starting applications, and building up the registry information in the background.
So, take a little bit of time, and your device will love you for it. 8)
Tuatara
You did it again the ringtone resolve is just great mine rings about half way through the first ring with a converted mp3.
Did some testing with v1.1 yesterday and was happy with that but this looks even more promising..

Ok ... like with EVERYTHING in this ROM, I've left it up to you (the user) to add (i.e. configure) or remove (i.e. delete from /Windows/Startup) any or all of the elements you do or don't want. In this way the ROM is a BASE for anything you wish to do, without having stuff installed which isn't to your liking. (Ok, barring the Speed Dialer issue, but that's also easily resolvable).
To configure up your MMS Account do the following 13 step process:
1). Check that you have "MMS Configuration ..." available in your Outlook Menu. If you don't then something has seriously gone wrong. Did you install the "ArcsoftMMS-TuMa.cab" file through the EXTROM or manually? If not - do so now. MMS is NOT available in the Base ROM.
2). Click it, and just ensure that it comes up and is active. The about should say "MMS Composer Version 3.0.7.11"
3). Click [ok] and close it.
4). Menu -> Tools -> New Account
5). Enter "[email protected]" as your email (doesn't matter what). Click Next.
6). Detect settings ... wait ... Click Next.
7). Enter a username "mms" will do. Click Next.
8). Select "MMS" as the Account Type. Click Next.
9). Incoming Server = "mms", Outgoing Server = "mms". Click Finish.
10). Finally ... click "NO" to not download mail for this account.
11). Now go back to Menu -> "MMS Configuration ..." -> Servers
12). Edit and modify the "Sample Server" to your required settings ... (which I can't help you with)
13). Presto ... you now have an MMS account.
Hope that gets you up and going ...
---
NOTE: KTamas ... probably another one for the Wiki ...
Ok, it's there..I just assumed it was the same as previous one, in which i did that procedure, but MMS account type wasn't there. Shame on me

I am having the same problem with downloading. How did you fix it?
I was perusing thru this list of WM5 hacks:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
and noticed the two at the bottom of the page regarding adding a Wireless status line to your Today screen (bluetooth on/off, wireless on/off as well as wireless network name) and also being able to set your phone to auto-sync the time (handy when traveling). Both hacks worked for me, seem to work real well. I'm sure there is a today plug-in that is similar but this seems to be built-in to WM5.
I'm using the T-Mobile customized 2.17 ROM for Qteks.
AKU2 ROMs tweaks
These are tweaks that have been confirmed to work on AKU2 ROMs, and confirmed not to work on earlier ROMs Show Wireless Today item
By just adding following keys to the registry will get you a nice 'wireless' today item that show Network name/status, WiFi name/status as well as Bluetooth status. Confirmed to work on AKU2 ROMs
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Wireless"]
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
Add time sync page to Phone Settings
To add a time sync page to your Phone Settings (Start > Settings > Phone > Options > Time Zones) , set the following:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ShowTimeZonesPage = 1 (DWORD decimal)
And to remove again:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ShowTimeZonesPage = 0 (DWORD decimal)
do i add the " " or do i leave them out cuz i tried it with and it isnt working im using 2.17 rom
Leave them out except for the "" around Wireless when creating the reg key. Be careful with the time sync page; when I tried it, it selected the wrong time zone but the right time.
Hi,
I cant seem to figure out how to do this reg tweak? I have PHM Regedit and have created the "wireless tab" but that as far a i have got. Could somebody help or point me in the right direction to doing reg tweaks?
cheers
I could have sworn that someone had actually written a plug in for this thing and I cannot for the life of me find it anywhere, anyone got it?

Thanks though...*searches more*
Okay so since I am retarded, I've got PHM Regedit and I've created the folder, but that's as far as I've gotten. I can't seem to understand what this thing wants me to do as far as adding value's to the registry. the way it's written out doesn't make much sense to me, so please someone tell me click by click what to put where.
I'm stupid. Deal with it.
Last post I SWEAR.
For those of us who hate editting the registry I found the CAB file and uploaded it here for you.
No credit goes to me, I found this on HTC Wizard Web, so credit goes to them for the find, and then the actual author of the cab file.
Thanks for this one guys, i've been wanting this type of hack for a long while. Now i can know what's going on with my wireless and bluetooth without all the guess work.
Updated version of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1156153
Modifications:
Fixed mail body/mail attachments errors.
Default Crossbow theme: Remake.
Net.CF: Fixed errors. Upgraded to Net.CF2.SP2. Managed V1 libraries (Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Configuration Microsoft.WindowsMobile Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Forms Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Status Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Telephony) imported from WM6 SDK.
Phone application imported from AKU 3.3 (smartdial still works). Used a bit different phone skin (gray molski.biz). There is attached gray smartdial - compatible with phone skin.
SqlCeSe.sys.dll: imported from WM6 ROM. A bit newer version than used in WM5.
Deleted all predefined favorites. They are not mine favorites.
Corrected Sim Toolkit.
Added Windows Mobile Updates for Daylight Saving Time
Reorganized "Programs" and "Settings". Removed ActiveSync (still available via Comm manager), InternetSharing and ModemLink - available in Settings/Connections. "Backlight" applet moved to "Personal" tab. I think, it is the most often used applet. Removed "Button Lock" - use: Settings/Personal/Buttons/Lock tab instead.
Modified today items order, date plugin set to single line.
PIE: some tweaks. Mostly performance tweaks. Cache limited to 10880kB - the rest of RamDisk can be used for storing mails.
Startup items removed from \Windows\StartUp folder. They are launched from [HKLM\init]. This saves some vital resources.
MSN (in the ExtRom folder) - slightly modified. Other ExtRom CABs are nearly the same. All CABs are disabled by default. Modify \ExtROM\cfg.txt to suit your needs.
Modified some graphics (smallest ones imported from WM6) and sounds. Removed fatutil.dll.0409.mui
[*]COM6 set as GPS intermediate port (look at GPS applet). Don't use COM6 for other purposes unless you undefine that.
Maintenance:
Remove (by hand) \Windows\StartUp\Camera_Detect.lnk.
Known problems:
Button SpeakerOn button doesn't work. Press and hold green phone hardware button instead. Probably I'll not fix it in the nearest future.
Changing themes: After changing theme and reverting back to the default, BaseHue is not restored. I think it is WM5 error (there is somewhere hardcoded default value). To restore: set [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Color] value BaseHue to b0d57e (hex).
Net.CF: Resco keygen and some other poorly written applications expects to use Net.CF.2 without any service pack. Ask software vendor.
Ringtones are not clear. IMO they have to be loud. They are encoded to have files as small as possible.
Main update files:
Update: Rapidshare
Mirror: MegaUpload (thanks to blackflagsvn)
Mirror: SendSpace (thanks to jakubd)
Mirror: micmeo (thanks to micmeo)
Mirror: isis2.uitm.edu.my (thanks to bizkut)
Misc files:
Reenable sound on screen taps: ClicksClacks.cab
Updated version again - previous version was not working: A bit customized, simplest (sorry, wmpaint is my friend) version of gray SmartDial_V2.5 Uninstall previous version of smartdial before. Other versions (Greek, Hebrew, Cyrillic) you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1100370#post1100370
If you think, that you have to reinstall sms_alert_fix - try this. Updated version: SMS_alert_fix_patch_1, uses InitLauncher. It is Ok to install over previous version
Network update. It is part of next release, but I believe it can resolve some problems with wifi connection. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37063&stc=1&d=1176410905
Thanks:
Many thanks to: helmi_c, mamaich, bepe, logout, tuatara, xplode, saman and supporting user. Happy Easter.
Tips:
Turn on WiFi: Do it only once after soft reset. This procedure will load WiFi driver into system drivers. Start Comm Manager. Select from menu: Settings/WLANsettings. Tap "Turn on WLAN". If there are any WiFi networks available - device will try to connect to. Provide proper parameters (network name, authentication, encryption, keys etc). Probably device would not connect. Go back to "Comm Manager". Turn WiFi off. Since that use only Comm Manager to turn WiFi on and off. There is easy way to recognize if it is required to load WiFi driver, or it is enough to turn on. Look at todays wireless plugin. If there is listed WiFi in any state - there is no need to load driver tapping "Turn on WLAN". Resolving this issue is not easy. If you are interested - read this: http://www.teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=194
COM ports: There are free only COM7 and COM8. COM1 - serial (bottom connector), COM2 - serial_cmd (to send AT commands to the phone) (I'm not sure), COM3 - IrDA, COM4 - BlueTooth, COM5 - BlueTooth DUN, COM6 - GPS intermediate driver, COM7 - free, COM8 - free, COM9 - Virtual COM (virser_data).
NetCF, WiFi and BT GPS together - WiFiFoFum. Setup: add new bluetooth device. Follow pairing procedure. Check "Serial port" service to use from this device. Select "CommPorts/NewOutgoingPort". Use COM7 or COM8. Goto GPS applet (Settings/Connections/GPS). Select "Hardware" tab. Enter previously selected port COM7 or COM8. Verify "Programs" tab - COM6 should be selected. Ok. Turn on WiFi (see previous tips), turn on BT, start WiFiFoFum. Goto Options/GPS. Select COM6 (the same, as selected in GPS applet in the "Programs" tab). Enjoy.
Devices randomly wakes up if BlueTooth is on: this is well known issue and nobody is working on it. Look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267389 If it is a problem for you, look for something that can lock device after WakeUp. For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261277

Did anyone try MS Voice Command 1.6 on this ROM ? Is it functioning properly ?

Essential processes for AT&T Tilt Users after each rom flash
I know this has been mentioned thousands of times throughout this forum yet n00bs often need assistance fixing their hardware keyboards, email, HTC weather, quick gps, and so on after they flash a new rom for the first time.
While hanging out in Bansville for a couple of days I realized I have been answering the same questions continuously. This is a mini text tutorial, which offers simple fixes for imperative AT&T settings.
So you installed a version of hardspl, flashed a new rom, and performed a hard reset. What next? Well primarily in all probability, you want to make sure the clock settings are in am and pm format and the date is set to m/d/y. To change your clock settings follow this navigation
Start>settings>system>regional settings>time tab>time style drop down set to h:mm:ss tt
To change your date setting:
Start>settings>system>regional setting>date tab> select the date style of your choosing and select ok.
Next, I like to restore my files such as my appointments, contacts, text messages, etc. I personally prefer to use PimBackup. Below is a .zip file for PPCPimBackup. It is an uncomplicated program to use and a lecture is unnecessary to navigate throughout this application, as it is straightforward.
After I restore my files, it is time to inaugurate the Tilt keyboard fix, which repairs your slide-out QWERTY keys to be mapped correctly. For example, without this fix Fn+W will appear as ! opposed to @. Below is the cab file you need to install to remap the keys appropriately. Following the installation of this cab file, perform a soft reset.
The next thing I usually do is correct my connection settings. First, I install ATT_Settings.cab, which you can find below. Then I navigate to the following:
Start>settings>connections>connections>select the advanced tab>select networks>Change both drop downs to Media Net> select edit on both drop downs>proxy settings tab>uncheck everything for both media nets that you changed>then hit ok or x when you are finished.
At this time, I set up my email. However, remember NOT to save your password, you will do this in the following step. If you are using HTC HOME, most likely you are, select the little envelope and create a new account. You can find your email settings by using google if you are using pop3 or whatever.
Next, after I set up my email without saving the password, I install removehiddenproxy.cab, which you can find below. This cab file is important as it allows your pop3 email account’s password to save without adding extra characters, allows for your quickgps to function properly each time, and it also allows you to use HTC Home Weather without getting a connection failure. So install this cab then go back to the email you just set up, edit the account setup, enter your password, and save it. Now, go back to your today screen and tap your weather tab. Now tap Select City and select your city (*Note there are a few patches available to select your town if you do not live in a big city). Anyhow, notice the menu button where your right softkey is, select menu and turn your temperature scale to Fahrenheit and select done.
I suggest setting up your WiFi at this time too.
Well this is my mini tutorial for a basic setup on your AT&T Tilt after you flash a new rom.
Have Fun Flashing and Take Care.
*Special thanks to the creators of these cab files and JimmyMcgee for teaching me the basics.
Am I missing something too?
Is there something to do regarding getting a reasonable GPS fix after flashing newer 6.1 roms or is it a known problem. I keep flashing down to older 6.0 roms with 1.27.14.09 radio because of the faster GPS fix. I would love to use the newer roms but GPS fix time is a deal breaker for me. To save you some time I use SPL 3.28 with 6.0 roms and 3.56 with 6.1 roms. I bounce between Q-mobile and RomEos roms now that we lost dutty. Ive tried all the newer radios and personally they all stink for GPS. Sorry about your brief ban and welcome back, I need your wisdom
*cough* sticky
AWESOME. I keep saying I need to: Start fresh, get NetCF 3.5, get a light rom. But it all seems so complicated to go from current configuration to start over completely, but this will help a lot! Thanks! Now to find the time and the 'right' ROM.
Thanks very much for the reminders, and for the CABs. I flashed my first 6.1 ROM last night, and forgot all about the hidden proxy!
I agree that this really needs to be a sticky...
This is a good tutorial, but here is a good side note to add.
By removing the hidden proxy (which ya do with the removehiddenproxy cab), Tilt users won't be able to get to media net (http://device.home or http://home) or cingular video as the hidden proxy is needed for those.
Then they should just use the Restore Proxy, and that will allow MEdiaNet.
Proxy Manager has both in it.

Did you try 1.71.09.01 ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410953
Been having the same issue and finally I think got a break. Tried about 10 SR's and the lock times are steady inside the house.
BTW using DK2
does windows mobile have a localhost file like windows? would remapping those to their needed servers allow the bypassing of the proxy?

+1.
Nice tutorial
I downloaded your PPCPimBackup zip file but when I attempted to open it I received the following prompt: "The central directory was not located . . ." etc.
Thanks for the post BTW. Very helpful and informative.

you were unable to open the zip file? I'll check it out and reupload it if necessary.
edit: works ok here my friend. Unzip the file to your desktop and move it to your storage card then run the program hopefully it works for you.

I deserved the brief ban.
Anyhow, I noticed that when running 6.1 roms with the Tilt you need an application such as HTC GPS Tool or GPS Test, to open your internal gps, prior to opening your GPS Software.
These are the steps I use to utilize a GPS Fix after each soft reset:
1) download latest updates for quickgps
2) Open GPS Tool>com 4>baud 4800>Hot Start>Then click Open and wait like 30 seconds
3) Open TT7
*If you fail to get a fix after following these steps close all programs and repeat. Eventually you should be getting fixes within seconds.
I've attached GPS Tool for you, good luck.
What exactly does the remove hidden proxy cab do on AT&T Tilts? If you go into your connection settings and uncheck the proxy server- is that the same thing or something different than the cab file does?
Hey Red,
I attached an ATT settings cab which does not enable the proxy by default, and also enableds creation mode in MMS settings. I thought it might be helpful for your thread here. Also, it may seem too advanced for beginners, but i have a thread started here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418468
This has a step by step guide to how to create an xml file using Schap's Advanced Config 3.0, which can be used to provision all of your advanced config preferences during your UC setup. This tool has really made it very easy to do reduce the amount of work that goes into flashing.
I also attached a cab for total commander, a free, more full featured file explorer; gps test, another gps tool; and advanced config 3.0. Hope it helps.
Thanks... this is a great thread!!!

I'd really like to know this too!
Why would anyone ever want the proxy checked? Does it do something for you to have it checked?

It removes a HIDDEN proxy, one that you can't remove without a cab. Without it enabled you can't connect to medianet home, and some other things. Most users like to disable it for a myriad of reasons, one of which is that it causes you to be unable to browse while connected to your laptop.
The box that you check in connections is a separate issue, and i think that is actually just old settings, i'm not sure, since even on the AT&T website it tells you no not to have that checked.

Awesome. So, if I run the cab and remove the hidden proxy- can I then tether my laptop (connect to the net using the Tilt's data)- without getting caught by AT&T? Or is there more to tethering without getting caught?
I have searched this forum (maybe I have missed something)
Does not matter what ROM I put on the X1, when I set the proxy settings (for my work connection) they do not seem to "stick".
I saw someone mentioning a registry fix, but I cannot seem to see it.
Also if someone could make a cab the sets the keyboard language to value 1035, I would be very glad, I have a swedish keyboard on my X1, but I prefer the WWE roms.
wrong forum dude
-does this happen on official ROMs?
-did you connect the device to activesync or WMDC? normally the proxy settings get copied from the PC to the PPC
- try to use "wifi profiles" app to create several profiles with the correct proxy settings. you can now create a shortcut to activate the wifi and change to the correct profile with a single click
cheers
Thanks for looking
Not sure how this is the wrong place though as is it pertains to only cooked roms on the X1.
I am using Vista WMDC, but I will explore the profiles you where talking abount.
Essentially I am connected via USB, I have forced the PC side to use Work as the connection and I am either creating a new connection or using the work connectino then configuring the settings.
Once I set the proxy address, and I exit, it's wiped clean from that profile.
"wifi profiles" is a software http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-wifi-profiles-v0-0-2.html
also see if you can cange the proxy from Opera (opera:config) . i used to have an addtional opera mobile application just to access the internet from work without changing the profile.
Thanks, I will download it today and check.
My problem is that I want the wather and other internet based tabs in Manila to work and opera proxy would not settle this.
/J
i had a lot of proxy issues with a lot of non official builds found in most cooked roms. so see if you get this problem with an official rom

I'll try, it's jus that the Stick X1 (or even the X2 rom) sux. this is why I am putting cooked roms on it in the 1st place
I just read somewhere someone hinting that there may be a simple Registry fix to make the settings stick.
It's funny, I can go in and out of the connections settings (under work, 1st set my proxy 2nd edit my proxy) and it's all there UNTIL i go to the weather tab and try to refresh the status.
Then if I go back it's cleared
