issue with this ROM - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I have used both versions of this ROM which I upgraded to from Summiter's 2.17 ROM. I have found one issue that I cannot identify why it keeps happening. On a daily basis the phone drops its data connection. I am able to make calls, show full signal strength but no data. Nothing that I have done seems to kick it back on. My only recourse is a soft reset which I have now had to start doing at least once every day.
I have no additional software on the device. I have kept it clean until I find the ROM version that I am most happy with.
Any advice?

EDIT: Check out the illustrated, step-by-step guide from Cingular:
https://cingular.atgnow.com/cng/tutorials/KB56475.html
But Cingular's proxy settings don't work for me, so instead, I just do this:
Tap Settings -> Connections
It will list two connections. What's the top connection? MediaNet?
Now, for the top connection, tap "Manage existing connections"
The radio button should be on "Cingular GPRS" (I don't think you want it to dial a phone number to connect to the Internet)
Next, tap the "Proxy Settings" tab.
"This network connects to the Internet" should be checked
"This network uses a proxy server"... I leave it un-checked.

Data connection never drops

I was away for a week and upon returning my Tilt is exhibiting some strange behavior that's different from before.
Basically, data connections never drop. So once the first ActiveSync, use of Pocket IE, etc, occurs, the connection stays on forever. For example I just checked my phone and the connection has been active for over 16 hours (the phone sat hibernated for most of that time).
I could have sworn that previously, the connection would drop after some period of inactivity. The little H with the signal strength on the title bar would change back to the triangle antenna. But no more. I tried with HSDPA off too and saw the same problem (except I got a little 3G instead of a little H above the signal bars).
I even hard-reset my Tilt and this did not fix it.
What can explain why my data connections used to drop on their own before but suddenly stopped doing so? Basically, my phone used to behave as if the "disconnect after" KaiserTweak was enabled (even though I never enabled it) but it's now behaving as if "always on" is enabled (even though it is not enabled).
So you know about Kaiser Tweak - have you loaded Kaiser Tweak and set the setting? and it still behaves this way?
I cannot explain it - but if Kaiser Tweak fixes it do you still need an explanation?

I agree with Bill... If You have a solution that will work even though you haven't had to use it before, why not fix the problem a new way instead of Dwelling on the problem.
Maybe Check this. In Phone Goto Menu -> Data Tab. Check your Check Box on Disable data connections when device enters Sleep Mode. Soft Reset and see if that will fix it for you.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I didn't want to fix this with the KaiserTweak because it comes with a disclaimer that (a) it might not work with all programs and (b) is might prevent simultaneous voice and data calls. The latter seems more problematic; maybe this is not an issue with 3G/HDSPA (and only with the older data technologies)?
I can't find a data tab anywhere. I have a Tilt with stock ROMs... is the menu and data tab available somewhere? I'd like to try that suggestion.

If you don't have that tab the option has been "hidden" by the ROM Makers. So Though there is a way to get to it, It is One I don't know.
I would suggest then getting Schaps Advanced Config, Is what I use to put my Data Connections to off after three minutes. I haven't had any problems with simultaneous lovin' with Voice and Data.
Well I turned on the KaiserTweak for this and it works. Maybe I had it enabled before and didn't realize.
One thing I notice is that I always get the "connecting to" balloon pop-up when a connection is being established, even if I tell it to hide. So there's one annoyance, but it's better than having my battery drain down due to the constant connection.
Interestingly this never drop behavior coincided with the switch-over from the behavior of the 3G icon that goes to H only when a connection is established, to always showing the H icon. Could these 2 behaviors be connected somehow, and due to a change on AT&T's side?
You can turn off the notification by going to settings -> sounds and notifications -> notifications tab ->event = connection established, uncheck "display message on screen".
I was just experimenting and I found that enabling the "disconnect after" KaiserTweak prevents simultaneous voice and data. If a voice call is going, I cannot establish a data connection and if a call comes in the data connection drops. If the KaiserTweak setting is not enabled, I can get simultaneous voice and data.
My phone always shows the H icon.
It seems I have to choose between the stock setting of "connection never drops, and drains battery" and the KaiserTweak setting of "can't get simultaneous voice and data connections". Ouch!
Does BandSwitch use a different way to handle forcing the disconnections, or is going to boil down to the same registry setting that KaiserTweak uses for this?

Need connection setup for S730

Please help me the connection setup cab, because my S730 cannot setup my network.
Need more information, do you want the cab for the initial connection setup wizard thing?
What type of network are you trying to connect to? WiFi? Phone's network?
If its your home wifi then make sure you have the wep correctly typed in, or is it the other encryption? and you might need to tweek the power options for the wifi so it wont nerf it...
Expand your question and give us as much info as to the problem, might not need to reinstall anything, could but might not need to.
I hv some problem with phone network, during i setup phone network then appear for error in the database. Pls help me for solution.
Phone network is going to be a hard one for us to trouble shoot since we dont work for the phone company, easiest way to try and get it working would be to go into a store and have an employee take a peak at it, however if you orderd it over the internet they might not be able to help you unless they support the device. Going through HTC could take a while.
Now what exactly does the error say? Just "Database error"? Or does it give a refrence code like a windows BSOD will give you a stop code?
To start with I would make sure your SIM looks okay as it could be having issues reading the network info off of it, next take a look in your phone settings, Start>(Option 8) Settings>Phone, theres several in there to look at but mostly go to the next page and into Networks, is your even listed? What options do you have under find a new network?
If you go back into phone under Band Select what is it set to?
If you go back into the main options menu what is under Regional Settings?
And, do you have a signal where your at?
Thanks for your explanation, i only have a problem with appear "error in the database" therefore i can't using GPRS or 3G network for HSDPA etc. I need some setting to run my GPRS or 3G network, because previous HP i'm using i have no problem with above matter.
Did you change anything in the menu's I listed above? It sounds like your saying the issue is only with the network as it applies to data and not voice (phone calls).
Go into your GPRS settings section and let us know what it says in there, did you go into a store and pick up the phone or just order it online? Was your old HP fully 3g / hsdpa ready? Did you change anything on your account that might be killing it on your phone?
Need to know what your settings are before going after it being a phone problem internally, setting, or something up with the network interaction. What are you trying to access? Sending an SMS / MMS or something with the browser or another application trying to use the internet?
Error in the DB sounds almost like its getting a connection but cannot locate your information?
If your browsing something online and get that its usually a browser error in which you can delete your history / cookies or reinstall it or its a website error and its no longer connecting to the DB properly etc.
Do you see an E or 3G on the top of your phone (by the battery Status) at any time?
I never change anything in my S730. I only try to setup my connection wizard in S730 but failed (It called error in the database)
Before i'm using S730, all the network likes video call, HSDPA, GPRS is running well but when i'm using S730 all the above network can't be running well. I only can use for phone and SMS.
Yes Error in the DB is almost like its when getting a connection setup but i never successful to find location the network. Do you have a cab to run the connection setup like HTC Tytn II?
I cannot browsing anything when the connection setup can't be done.
I see in my S730 the icon E or 3G on the top of my phone but cannot running well due to connection setup can't be done.
Hmm, I will see what more I can do when I am at home later tonight. Most of the connection settings will be network specific and read off of your phone, to use 3g and Edge you shouldnt have to set anything up. I just put in my new SIM card, turned the phone on and away I went. The only setting up I had to do was for the Wifi.
Since your phone is recognizing the networks I dont think its an issue with that aspect of the phone, something in the drivers could be causing issues with how it interacts with the network. Could be the sim having corrupt information and a few other things.
Who is your provider?
Many thanks for your assistance. I'm using provider INDOSAT in Indonesia.
I have not seen any other similar errors for INDOSAT on google (didnt dig too deep however).
For giggles go into your start menu and select more until you see the connection setup wizard (earth with a magic wand on it) and see what that does for you.
Does the phone stay in E or 3g mode or cycle between the two at random while your at home? How is the coverage in your area? I dont have 3g available here but every now and then my phone will slip into 3g mode and while its trying to connect for those 10 seconds the handset lags a little but always reverts back to edge and resumes normal life.
If you still have your old handset can you pop your sim in it still have have everything run perfectly? (Assuming you reset the device so the settings are back to stock).
For now my best advice (I am no expert like some of the people here...)
Go into the settings menu, make sure your GPRS settings are as correct as they can be (contact your provider to verify the info the phone is telling you) From the main settings several pages into it is a GPRS Auth... place verify that is set correctly as well.
If you bought this handset brand new you really should be able to just pop in your sim and fly away, MMS requires some setup but the rest is plug and play pretty much. Have you tried a reset of the device in hopes that it flushes out a possible bug and allows your settings to take over?
Thanks for your help, now my S730 is running well for video call and over GPRS.

Problem: Connection Setup – The operator does not exist in database??

In Connection Setup I chose country “Austria” and my Operator “T-mobile”. Data connections are working, so far so good.
Only problem is: After power on, or soft reset, my diamond always shows the following message: „Connection Setup – The operator does not exist in database. Contact the operator…”
I’m then forwarded to the connection settings screen. When I close that window (x), I return to home screen and everything works fine. But it’s just pretty annoying to click that message away every time!!
Please help!
In the program Setting - Connections - Connection Setup I had to disable the function "Auto Configuration". If this function is enabled the phone tries to find the network operator in his database. Unfortunately Paraguay is missing in this database.

I keep reading that....but still a bit confused. Once auto configuration is disabled....Country is USA....operators list still only shows the 3 too choose from...of which none of them are CENTENNIAL.
So how does he go about setting it up manually for Centennial?

How to just use wifi and totally disable media net

Well i dont have a data plan and only want to use wi-fi when available. Should i delete the gprs settings or is there a program to disable it. I ask this because im afraid of it useing the internet and not wifi. Is there a way to do this. I tried and searched no results
thanks
Do the following to remove any data connections, other than wifi
Do the following..
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks >
(CHOOSE YOUR CONNECTION FROM THE DROP DOWN LIST).
Choose the one you want. Example MEdia Net
(After Selecting)> Edit > Click and hold on the item next to radio button (example MEdia Net).. when the popup screen (similar to windows right click) comes up click on delete. Then do the following. >> General Tab > Click the button "Delete Settings".
Repeat the steps for other items listed on the drop down list...
NOTE - You cannot delete settings for My ISP & Work Network. Which is fine.
Hope that helps.
P.S - If you ever need the settings back again.. run the Connection Setup Wizard again

I made this video so you can see . its pretty simple if you want to use your wifi connection just enable wifi and fallow steps.

Or use Modaco Nodata, which allows you do enable/disable in 2 clicks.....
Bookmarked.
I do it every time I flash, but I always have to re-figure it out.
Thanks!
wow, search could have told you this in no time flat.
I used to have a regular poo poo samsung phone with that irritating buttonmin the middle to connect. Every time I accidentally pressed it, it would try to connect, and I would cancel immediately. Much to my dismay, I still received connection charges just for trying to connect. Fed up, I called ATT, told them my situation, and requested the ability for my ACCOUNT to use internet be blocked--since I didn't appreciate 6-10 bucks in connection charges (sinceI didn't have a plan). They removed it (not just from my phone no., but from all phones on my account) , and anytime I pressed the button, the connection failed. Upgraded over to a tilt, with the same sim card, any media NET connection fails, since any connection is disabled. Ofcourse, removing the bloatware really helps.
Use Modaco Nodata. I am a wifi only. Here @ work, and @ home. So, no data really needed.
I have NO data plan and its the 1st thing I install. It has NEVER allowed any data, and its a toggle. No other setup required.

Wifi does eat batteries though.

Would anyone that has this .cab file to disable the internet, upload it for me i would really appricate it
I believe the KasierTweak app has the option as well. Of course if you had just searched in the first place I'm sure you would have had your answer several hours ago.

ONLY ONE way to Disable Media Net (AT&T)
The ONLY way to disable Media Net from At&t is to call them and get a WIX block placed on your account. The downside to that is you lose the ability to send/receive picture messages; regular text messages are fine.
I've tried changing connection settings, band settings, etc...
I've tried turning off 3G.
I've tried NoData.
My Touch Pro 2, WM 6.5, keeps connecting to Media Net.... Until NOW, when I had the block placed on my phone account.
I know this is an old thread, but I've been doing intensive searching on the matter, and this page keeps popping up; so I'm posting to let anyone else who's looking know.
IF ANYONE OUT THERE COULD DEVELOP A PROGGIE TO FIX THIS, I'D BE MORE THAN WILLING TO DONATE FOR IT!! (And I'll bet many others would, too!)

Data usage?

I'm in Australia, and with Telstra on their regular GSM network (no 3G). I don't have a data plan, so I don't want my phone to ever use data. Up until recently, I didn't have Telstra's APN programmed into my Dream, but I discovered that I couldn't read MMS without it in there, so I put it in. I now ocassionally see the icon with the 2 up/down arrows and the 'E' in my notifications bar when I don't have WiFi connectivity, and I can only assume that means it's using Telstra to check emails, etc. which I don't want...
I've gone in to the wireless controls and ticked "Use 2G networks only", but that doesn't seem to help it. It's going to end up costing me a lot if it keeps using data through my mobile provider. I have WiFi in 90% of the places I go, so I have no need for a data plan!
try to adjust your apn so that the username and password sections are blank. to see if that works just try and connect to a webpage without wifi on.

try downloading APNdroid. It disables all but non data apn's i think (make sure you test your phone to see if you do receive the MMS)
Also make sure data roaming is disabled ( Settings > Wireless Settings > Mobile Settings )
