OK, after finally getting my BA perfect with 2003SE, I decided to take the plunge last night and upgrade to TuMa's 1.4 WM5 ROM...
All went well until this morning when I couldn't get the phone app to work, at all!
So I did a HR and all was fine, I added all my trusty apps, including TomTom, Vito SmartMap and Vito Navigator II and they all worked... I even got my i.Tech BT Stereo Headset to work in both handsree and stereo headset mode... while connected to my Fortuna ClipOn GPS with both TomTom and Navigator II!!!!
I realised this afternoon that I hadn't installed Pocket Informant so I tried... and tried... and tried...
Then I realised that I was missing something... I didn't resize my Ext_ROM on my initial upgrade and it was unlocked using the XDA tool on this site, so I had 43 Meg Storage Memory, 96 Meg Program Memory and the 16 Meg Ext_ROM... or at least I did when I first flashed it! After this mornings flash there was no Ext_ROM to be seen!!
I am now in the process of Downgrading back to 2003SE as I understand the Unlock tools only work in that OS... I think I'm going to take the plunge now, resize my storage to 60 Meg, and reinstall TuMa's ROM, in my opinion it is awesome!!
In short I had:
Working Wi-Fi
Working BT (Including Voice Dialling) (No Unrequested Powerups either!)
Working A2DP
Working MMS
Working GPRS
And a much nicer interface, and to be honest once all the apps were loaded, I didn't really see it as any slower than 2003SE with the same burden of software, I run:
Wisbar Advance 2
SBSH Pocket Breeze
SBSH Contact Breeze
Spb Pocket Plus
Spb Weather
Spb GPRS Monitor
Spb Time
Resco File Explorer
Resco Audio Recorder
Pocket Informant 2005
Photo Contacts Pro
Skype
IM+
TomTom 5.21
SmartMap 3.51
Navigator II 1.31
and various games, and the only app which dragged at all was TomTom, but that was only on startup, once it was running it was fine...
My only dilemma now is are any of the other ROMS cleaner or faster? I tend to use Resco File Explorer rather than Total Commander, and Wisbar as opposed to VBar... so really the apps TuMa has supplies are a waste of space for me (even though they are in the ROM, I know!)... I've heard that Ivan R4.3 is speedy, but do any of them have the WiFi/BT stuff working as well as TuMa's?
Loads of info, and loads of questions I know, but I'm just so goddam excited!! I really wasn't expecting much from WM5, and I have so been pleasantly surprised!!
Slainté,
tekno
Wifi and bluetooth working nice in ivans version, i have no problems since using it
Cool, I've just got that one from the ftp site... off to flash now, I've heard it's faster, do I need to increase my storage to 60MB or can this one support Ext_ROM? I notice an older one of Ivan's did...
Slainté,
spkr4thdd
All ivans releases have a working Extrom, so get togehter the cabs on your PC, check how much space they take up then flash the Extrom to slightly larger (eg i have 19mb of cabs and 20mb of extrom) that way you will get the most storage space and still fit all your cabs in the extrom.

It came to me in another topic that some people seem to have no problems and others have loads with wm5. I guess and I emphasise guess that this is a third party software issue.
If any of you are lik me you now have programs you cant live without, and as soon as installed the new wm5 we start adding our customisations.. ie third party software. By doing this we are not getting true feel of the wm5 and this wont help the gurus on here. I say this because we all report different errors and they cant fix them all. Indeed it will slow down their progress as they will be trying to solve too many issues.
If we all work together then maybe we can find certain programs that indeed work perfectly and others that are causing the problem.
I suggest therefore that we all list programs that appear to work and if they are free put them here so that others may try and report the findings. Thus finding the true bugs in the wm5 not third party issues.
On that note I have the following installed and have no problems at all.
SPB weather
SPB clock
Agile messenger
True fax
Ilauncher
tray launcher
bass and trebble
maybe as I dont have many that is why i have no problems..
It is more than possible that there are better programs that do the same job ie for weather etc.. Lets share our knowledge and help the likes of Mamaich, buzz and the rest
stay happy

Those of you with a 750 on the ATT/Cingular network with the new WM6 please post your experiences with 3rd party software (what works, what doesn't).
After reading the current WM6 threads it is obvious that there is a big difference on how well WM6 works across the different carriers and brandings. So I would like to limit this thread to ATT/Cingular (hopefully others will start threads for different carriers). I think the biggest barrier to most of us in upgrading is whether the hundreds of dollars of 3rd party software we had on WM5 will still work on WM6.
I am especially interested to see people's reviews on spb apps, wizbar, smallmenu, Handy Switcher, MemMaid, Mortscript, TomTom 6, SlingPlayer, Goodlink/GMM, AEbutton Plus or other button mappers.

Those of you that are getting TomTom6 to work, what kind of GPS receiver do you have? And is it connecting each time you start TT6?

i'm using a Holux GPSlim 240 - TT6 works perfectly, it connects each time I start and navigates fine.
I cannot seem to get my "ebay-purchased" bluetooth GPS receiver to work with TT6 anymore. It worked fine when it was still on WM5 but even though i CAN connect to the GPS receiver when adding it manually, TT6 doesn't recognise it whatsoever.
i MIGHT have forgotten to do some settings, so if someone else does have a bluetooth GPS receiver please help me out! i need to navigate a lot to get to client's offices for my work and i cannot live without TT6!!
Just to make sure, did you set the 'outgoing port' in the bluetooth settings to match what TT6 uses?
Blackberry Connect 4 on WM6 rom ?
Hi
Has anyone had any success with Blackberry Connect 4 on the WM6 Rom ? I was trying over and over unsuccessfully on my 750c and I had the same symptoms as on WM5: Network Available -> Suspended by user, no IP address, no PIN (shows Pending)
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
HC

yes i have... i dont remember this... but do i need to check the Serial Port service in the Partnership Settings? and do i need to set up anything in the External GPS (Start -> Settings -> External GPS) for it to work?
i got a feeling i got my TT6 to work with my GPS by fluke when i was using WM5 which is why i'm having trouble now... i will try again tonight and see how it goes. Thanks!
I should be getting my Kaiser the end of this week. Is there anything I should do immediately after receiving it?
Getting the Kaiser because my 8125 broke (the usb breaking issue). I'm no stranger to flashing roms, but just wondering whats the scenario with the new device.
Will I notice a big difference as far as speed/performance compared to my 8125.
Thanks!
Visit SPBsoftwarehouse.com and checkout SPB Mobile Shell - SPB Diary and SPB Phone Suite. Then for fun SPB Brain Evolution.
Then later on get PHM Registry Editor (free).
Then look into memmaid for maintenence.
Check out dutty's rom (#7 I believe).

I'd probably opt for
1) SPB's pocket plus
2) Wisbar advance 3
I'd also get
a) PHM Registry editor (free)
b) TCPMP (free)
c) MemMaid
d) Kaiser Tweaks (free)
If you want GPS navigation
i) Microsoft Live Search (free)
ii) Google Maps (free)
iii) TomTom Navigator 6 (dependant on if you have Kaiser or variant, and where you live -- free/paid)
The Kaiser ships with "Sprite Backup", this is a an older version, but works OK. Dont contemplate changing if for the "Upgraded version" or SPB Backup unless you have issues
The Kaiser also ships with GPRS monitor, this is SPB's GPRS monitor under a different name.
You might want to use the HTC Home Customiser thats around, however backup your phone before doing so (I changed my clock font using it).
the first thing to know is that htc suck because there is no hardware acceleration for the qualcom chip coz they don t want to relese the driver lol

If I had to do it over again, I would not have gone for the Kaiser. As it stands, I will likely go back to my 8125 at least for a little while until some of the issues get worked out.
You may be better off finding a cheap 8525 from ebay to use until something lives up to what you would expect from the specs. The Kaiser has many issues. Here's a few
1. Many people have complained about poor Bluetooth headset volume. This might require purchasing a new headset.
2. Since the 8125 days, you now need to buy and adapter to use a standard 3.5 headphone jack.
3. Video playback is very poor
4. Game play for anything with 3D graphics (hearsay to me) is very poor.
5. TouchFlo - It is so buggy it is pretty much useless.
6. After several iterations of both moblie OS's and PC OS's, I still can not get music to "sync" without issues. It took me DAYS to get 4GB of music synced as I had to keep reconnecting. Every 40-50 songs. This had been a problem for me since WinMo 2003 and XP, and is still problematic with WinMo 6 and Vista. I have never been a big fan of iTunes, but at least it WORKS.
7. This depends on your supplier but for me, the AT&T ROM is chock full of useless programs and lacks most of the HTC supplied programs that ship with the HTC ROM. After several days trying to essentially get the AT&T ROM to look like the HTC ROM, I gave up and flashed a cooked ROM. It sucks that I had to go through all of this trouble to get the phone set up as I liked it. I feel sorry for people who aren't up to flashing a ROM, because the AT&T ROM is truely an abomination of marketing gack. More than 50% of the programs in the standard custom install are trial version that require you to spend more money for full functionality.
Anyway, I am a bit jaded. Considering I skipped a generation (never had an 8525) I had high expectations that this would be far and away better then my 8125. It is in some respects, but so far I think it has not been worth the effort and cost. Since I had an offboard GPS solution for the 8125, about the only thing that is better on the Tilt is the Bluetooth Stereo and compatibitly with WM6 programs. It's not even that much smaller.
Before you get the 8925/Tilt - screen protector, case, large microSD (they sell up to 8gb now).
As people are saying here, you may want to do the At&t bloatware removal trick. We have 2 Tilts in the house: 1 with, 1 without bloatware. I have the bloatware, and will do the removal trick next time I need to hard boot. Not a single thing on there I need, that I can't find on Xda. The bloatware takes up about 20mb of space! The other Tilt is running great sans bloatware.
Essential programs to offset some bugginess:
- KaiserTweaks (freeware).
- BandSwitch (free or pay versions) if you have 3G in your area.
- Conduits PocketPlayer 3.5X (sound is much better to me).
Utilities:
- DinarSoft MemMaid (not free), but it has so many functions all in one: It will help with Notifications/Alarms, it is a Registry Editor, you can reformat your microSd card with it (to name a few).
- Chi-Tai Dang BatteryStatus Today Plugin (free or pay versions). Will show battery, memory, card memory, cpu usage, phone minutes/data/texting...
- Spb Mobile Shell (not free).
Programs:
- Microsoft Live Search (freeware).
- ReenSoft PiePlus (not free).
I've been using igo8 with TTS on my Touch all the way till diamond. Previously everyting runs well on all stock wm 6.1 roms. After I flashed to Juicy8 WM 6.5 rom, my TTS suddenly would not work any more. All I got is a "ding" at each waypoint instead of pronouncing the street name etc.
I searched my a$$ off online and replaced all the TTS related files to the newest I could find online, still would not work. Asked in other forums, someone suggested that it may be the DLLs for TTS in the pack are not compatible with WM 6.5, but I do not want to flashed it back to 6.1 to test before I'm certain this is indeed the cause.
I'm using igo 8.3.2 series with up-to-date main program, the TTS packs are susanTTS high quality.
If you have any idea how to make the TTS work in Juicy ROM or generally wm 6.5 system, please share. TIA.
I'm not sure what TTS is. Is it TomTom Skin?
I am using 2.07.Gen.Y ROM with WM6.5. I have TomTom 7.915 and iGO8 8.0.0.44898 with the TomTom skin and they both work very well. The only issue I have is that I only have about 30Mb of RAM when TF3D is on, so I have to use TF Detacher to turn it off and this then gives me enough RAM for iGO8 to run. Perhaps you need a different ROM??
TTS is Text-To-Speech, it's almost a basic function now on all GPS units. All it does is to announce the street name and tell you to turn left or right etc.
re-flashed the phone to newer release juicy8 rom again. Before that I flashed back to sprint stock 6.1 ROM, igo8 TTS works fine. Then I flashed to the new 6.5 rom, and to my surprise the TTS worked for a while after I flashed it (with 54Mb available storage), but after a couple of programs installed and the available storage reduced the 30MB TTS stopped working again.
Tried to disable touchflo 3d to get some memory back, did not work.
BTW, TTS worked fine in 6.1 ROM previously when I normally have 20MB available storage memory. It might crash from time to time, but generally it was working. I don't understand why in 6.5 even with 30MB storage, it did not work. Or maybe it conflicted with one of my installed programs?
I had:
Resco expolorer
Hi-Cal
Phatenots ofr outlook
Phatpad
Touchpal
Others are built-in the ROM such as facebook, googlemap, opera etc.
With the rom in my sign and latest NeoS2007 drivers iGo is working perfectly.
To have TTS working good you need at least 50% of free ram...
Same problem on touch HD
I can confirm the same problem. It did work with TTS on WM6.5 23016,23017 versions. It did even work with 23037.
I have flashed to a new WM6.5 23041 version, and my TTS is mute. Also, trying to change regional setting crashes igo with message: "can't find big_flag_isl.bmp"
Any solution?
BigE
it has to be the rom because i used igo8 n a tts file and it didnt work at all, just liek u said all i heard was a ding sound, its defiantly wm6.5
Same problem on TD2 with official WM6.5 ROM
I'm having the same problem on my TD2:
WM6.5 ROM version 2.16.405.4 (67041) WWE
iGo8.3.4.102680
I also get the 'ding' with no voice after it.
Non-TTS voices work just fine.
When I first ran iGO8 after the upgrade from WM6.1 (where TTS *WAS* working), I did see some popups asking me to allow the Loquendo TTS DLLs to run. There are 4 DLLS but I only ever saw 3 popups asking for authentication. That's rather weird. Perhaps the 4th DLL is exiting silently in the background. I don't know.
What I do know is that it is ridiculous in this day and age of virtualised segmented memory models to design an application that requires such a big 'real' memory footprint! It seems that iGO8 attempt to load the entire 30MB TTS 'binary' in one hit when you start the application, rather than loading a small piece of it and reading from 'storage' when necessary. Maybe this is a Loquendo issue and not an iGO specific issue. Maybe there is a registry entry to tell Loquendo not to use so much memory on load. I don't know. It would seem sensible to allow dynamic tuning of the memory footprint of the TTS component to allow it to run under low-memory conditions. Surely it's not that hard for the developers!
Same issue here.
But the weird thing is that it worked twice for me in my TD2, regardless of the memory I used. But after hard resetting it stopped working again. So to me it's a mistery why it works say, 20% of the times.
Same Problem here.. till now
Device: O2 xda diamond pro (raphael)
Rom: Latest TAEL Rom (WM6.5)
iGO8 Version 8.3.## tested all from march to august ..
My TTS always works great in the past, untill now. Allready tested many different TTS Files, and voices. Bad luck
I saw the Post above, and i turned off tf3d. (before: ~54% ; after: ~44%) I also overwrite all the TTS Files (.dll) with other ones. (TTS-Fix found somewhere on the net.)
I attach the tts fix to my Post, actual they should work with other languages, too.
Try it and report back, hope it works!
PS: Copy/overwrite the new .dll s in iGO8 Folder (Maybe backup the old ones!) Sry, but the Manual is only in german..
copied the three files to replace files under \IGO8\ except the german one. It did not work.
Hi guys,
My dad's handed me his Vario III / (Kaiser 120) to use.
I did a reset using the option in 'SETTINGS' to reset it and lose all date. Now, when I start it up, it looks like new and the time/date has to be set. All my dad's contacts have gone. Cool. - 1. Was this a Hard-Reset ?
I went to something like SETTINGS > INFO and got this:
Radio Vers 1.70.18.02
ROM DATE 9/01/08
ROM Vers. 3.31.110.3 WWE
Build 19212.1.03
When I start it up, it says Windows Mobile v6.1
A couple years ago, I loaded tomtom navigator on it for my dad. It was really good with the internal gps.
Anyway, now that I have the phone, I'd like to install tomtom navigator on it, use the camera (maybe 10 photos a week) and upload pics to my PC, and browse the internet (email, twitter etc.) from time to time. Also, I'd use the handset to connect via bluetooth to my laptop so I can use it for internet (in emergencies, as it is kinda slow). I also text (3-5 texts a day)
I also downloaded an app called Shazam.cab from a site called mobilism, which I would love to use as I have seen it on my lucky friend's iPhone and the app is awesome!
2. Apart from the usb cable, and active sync on my pc, do i need anything else to install shazam on my phone/micro sd card?
3. I assume a ROM means operating system? Like windows xp, 7 etc.
I see that people are putting new ROMs on their phone. My phone has
Storage Free Space: 121MB and Programs Free 55MB. There isn't a lot of 'bloatware' hogging up resources on there, as far as i can see.
4. Do I need to install a custom ROM now that you know my uses (in blue font above) for the phone? / do I need to flash it? I.e. will a new ROM/flash make my life a lot easier? Better to convert to android system? Will I need to do any of these things to install shazam?
I was goin to do this on the weekend so I can use other sims in my phone:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
fingers crossed it goes ok.
Can you please help?
Thank you
Sonny
ps. I may need to ask a couple more questions after this. Once again thank you for your help. If anyone needs advice on cameras, please let me know as I am a regular contributor to a photography forum.
1. Yes, it was HARD-Reset (removes all settings, contacts, messages, ...). It doesn't do anything to the MicroSD card.
2. I don't know anything about that. Sorry!
3. Yes, ROM means operating system. There are stock ROMs and modified ROMs. For Kaiser (a.k.a. HTC TyTN II) you'll find only stock Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and lots of modified WM 6.1 and WM 6.5 ROMs. There's no stock WM 6.5 ROM for Kaiser.
4. Android is not stable enough. Sometimes it crashes, doesn't wake up and so on... All your mentioned things can be done with both WM 6.1 and 6.5, so it's for you to decide what to use. WM 6.1 looks a little bit old and terrible, but it uses less resources than WM 6.5 which looks a little bit... like system that was made to be similar to iPhone OS. Yes, WM 6.5 is more finger-friendly, but the applications grid drives me crazy, it uses more resources (and loves draining the battery)
Thank you very much for taking the time to post. I found it really useful.
I stuck with original HTC ROM with 6.1 and I am loving it. Shazam works wonderfully well. The phone is so damn sharp. And, using 2 apps at once is brilliant.
Does anyone know if I can put more icons/apps on the TODAY SCREEN?
At the moment, I am only allowed to put 6 in the start menu screen, and 1 (tom tom) on the today screen.
My Start menu has: 1 File explorer, 2 organiser (i use the calculator a lot), 3 internet explorer, 4 MS word (for my notes), 5 shazam (use a lot), 6 Resco photo manager (for uploading to FlickR)
I'd like to add 2 more apps (wunder radio + core player) somewhere with quick access.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Try copying applications links (.lnk files) from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to \Windows\Start Menu\
I'm not sure if it's going to work with Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's safe to try
