question on making your own Registry tweaks cab installer - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I am currently using WinCE Cab Manager. I have all the key and values in the Registry part, but when I install it, it says that this program is not intended for this device. Is there something special i have to do to make this work???

you should notice that in the CAB Properties setting page there contains several information about OS versions and suitable devices. Make sure you verify them before you pack your CAB.

I had downloading a working cab from someone else, but when i edit the cab, just to take one registry out, it gives me the error also. Is there something i have to do to the cab to make it work?

Guess you're using CeCabManager Ver2.0 to modify CAB files.
This version of CeCabMgr has bugs which will cause the original CAB files to be damaged.
Try use Ver1.1.0.4 instead.

Today I made my first CAB file.
I grabbed an existing CAB file, deleted everything in it except for the CAB information, inserted my own Registry Tweaks and it works great!
I edited the CAB File with WinCE CAB Manager v1
U can find my CAB here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54961&highlight=

CAB files from (home cooked) Extended Rom do not install?

I made my own Extended Rom with a few CAB files I created, but when I do a hard-reset and let the Customization Tools do their job it looks like none of the CAB files is installed?
I'm sure my Extended Rom is build correct (I used Faria's how-to for it), but it looks like the Registry changes that's in my CAB files are not kept in the Registry because after installing the Extended Rom it resets immediately. Can this be true? Or do I need to hardcode the installpaths in my CAB files maybe?
Regards,
Molski
Already found the answer.
I added the Default_Signed_Disable_Security.CAB to the Extended Rom (as 1st file to install) and after that it worked.
Actually very logic, my CABS were not installed because they're not signed so had to disable that security first.

thats correct my friend.sorry a did not post sooner.
as for custom registry settings if u put them into a cab file, make sure it is the last file to be installed in the extendedrom setup.

Hay Faria,
It doesn't matter that you didn't post a reply sooner, look at the time difference between my question and my answer, it is not even a hour after each other
But why do I have to do the Registry cabs at last in the Extended Rom? Because a few files I use got Registry changes in it.
Regards,
Molski
hi
i meant registry hacks like perrfomance tweaks etc,not the ones in the programs that u are going to install.
reason?
i find out that some programs have a habit of modefing registry keys specially the ones homemade ,so if you install such cab file it is best to leave last.
cab file
Hello guys,
I started playing with my k-jam and i have to admit i'm really happy with your advises. I'm facing the same problem now, the cab files in my "cooked" ExtROM don't install. I belive i need that cab file to disable the certificate security. Could you tell me from where to get it?
Thanx a lot!

Automated Settings

People; how can make a cab that automatically makes the settings for GPRS, MMS, WAP etc.? Every time I upgrade my pda2k to a new GREAT ROM, I have to make these settings manually. And as you know, GREAT developers on this site works hard and provide us with the latest unofficial ROMs in a short time.
PS: I'm not a programmer, so telling me only 'use a cab manager' won't be enough...
The helmi roms already have this, look for the "operator" cab files.
My operator isn't in the list. So I need to prepare a cab file by myself...

This should help give you an idea of what you're looking for;
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_PersonalCAB
When I did the Orange UK cabs I basically extracted the settings from the cabs that came in the original WM2003 ExtROM (that my phone came with). Then I created new cabs using WinCE Cab Manager by copying the ones Helmi shipped with his ROM and replacing the settings with the extracted Orange ones.
I have attached the relevant files I used, you could possibly hand edit these and then make cabs yourself if you can't find the settings shipped with your phone.
Thanks, I will try this.

How to create a operator GPRS settings cab file?

Somebody please help me in creating a cab file for my gprs settings. I like to run it from the extended rom. Here is my connection details.
Name - AirTel
Access Point - airtelgprs.com
Connection Location - My ISP
Also I need to add a string to be included in the cab for this connection to set it to "alwayson" as "1".

60 views and no reply...oh no please help
Please tell me how can I create a operator settings cab file.
Nishad
It's not that easy. What I'd do is to reinstall the latest ROM that worked on your device, install TotalCommander, go to \\extended_rom, find your provider's GPRS cab and copy it to your storage card....
(That's what I did)
There is no cab provided by our GPRS provider (Airtel). I'll try and make a Provisioning File with those settings nishadks.
It will be usefull for me too

I would also like to create Brazilians Operators CABS.
If you have not made a cab file before i would say use a cab builder to make it!

I dont know if you did try already but it took me 2 sec to go to the FTP find a cab file and extrat the eml file!!! It is not hard, why are you using up place when you could have done it along time ago if all you want was the xml file!!!
You know that if you would like help with something you have to show that you have tried!!! Like the other day i could not get a xml file to work for me, so i posted the script on here and i had the problem solved within 2 mins!!! Just show that you have tried and people will help you quicker!
You can look at it like this or chane the end to xml!
TIM Brazil Network Configuration
I have created a cab to configure TIM Brazil GPRS, WAP. MMS Client Configuration will be available in the next release.
I would like to ask for those who use TIM Brazil and can test this cab. Just remember that this is a Beta version. I already tested in my Wizard and worked but you never know...

Funman, you are correct. I was attacked by a strong laziness. I asked without putting my brains to work first. Thanks for everything.
I have update TIM cab file and created another two for Oi and Claro Brazilian operators.
To avoid any problem, please run RemoveAll.cab in the first place.

Reg setting to prevent cab file from being deleted after running it?

I've tried searching but with no luck.
what is the reg setting to prevent cab file from being deleted after running it?
Thanks!
this came from searching google:
"We use *.cab files as installation files for our Windows CE versions. Sometimes users ring to ask how to stop the CAB files deleting themselves after running them. Users having been copying the cab files to the CE desktop before running them to ensure that the original remains after installing.
This is not necessary - If you change the properties of the cab file (right-click on the file and select properties) to READ-ONLY (tickbox) then the cab file won't delete itself after installation.
CAB files "self destruct" after being executed unless you make them read-only. We send all our cab files to our web server as read-only, but this attribute tends to get removed at the download stage"

Is there a program for Automatic Registry edits??

Hey, i had a question, the TP has got many tweaks, you have to manually put them into the registry, my question is: is there a program that can do al the tweaks that i want automatically? i know there are some programs like advanced config, diamond tweak etc etc. but i only want a to put all the "Queries" in 1 txt file just like SDCONFIG.TXT. sorry for my english! hope someone can help me or make a program like this! i think a program like this could help many people, especially the people who are afraid of editing the registry.
thnx in advance
Using an XML file, you can accomplish this with SDCONFIG.TXT and a provisioning XML, see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1896955&postcount=2

ok thnx for your help!
now can anyone make a XML files with the best working tweaks for the TP ???
Use Diamond Tweak
You could use advanced confic and then select export provisioning or something like that and then select witch items you want to export and then put that into your sdconfig worked perfect for me using sashimi witch does the same thing basicaly as sdconfig just easier to add and delete cab's and whatnot.
If you know all of the registry tweaks, you can use my QuickCab utility to create a cabfile. Just put your registry tweaks in the cab file, and install it like a regular program.
Here's the thread and I'm working on a new version that should be ready for testing soon.

nice going to see that topic!
You can export/import also parts of the registry with Resco Explorer and Registry add-in. Best software for PC I can recommend is Registry Workshop to join/split/compare registry entries,etc...
